Abstract The potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) laser recently has been introduced for use in surgery, but as yet, no data have been published concerning the safety or efficacy of use of the KTP laser in neurosurgery. A series of patients treated with the KTP laser that revealed some practical advantages of this instrument over other lasers presently available is reported. The KTP laser has been designed with user safety in mind. In general, the KTP laser, with its angled, lowprofile, lightweight hand pieces, was especially useful in anatomically confined locations, where a laser beam directed

A common but under-recognized complication of Mohs micrographic surgery is the development of surgical site telangiectasias after repair. Treatment with pulsed dye laser has shown good results in treating periscar telangiectasias, while treatment with KTP laser has never been studied for this complication. We report the findings in six patients with persistent telangiectasias post-Mohs micrographic surgery and their response to treatment with KTP laser. After one treatment with KTP laser, the severity of telangiectasias, scar erythema, and patient and physician-rated improvement were recorded.

Cricopharyngeal dysfunction is a relatively uncommon disorder that is widely misunderstood. Cricopharyngeal dysmotility is thought to represent abnormal function of the upper esophageal or cricopharyngeal sphincter. The cause of this dysfunction is related to uncoordinated pharyngeal swallowing, achalasia, or a combination of these factors. Unfortunately, standard diagnostic tests have not consistently demonstrated a failure of the cricopharyngeal sphincter to malfunction; therefore, cricopharyngeal myotomy has been suggested as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool in the treatment of dysmotility
