Abstract:
The extraction of yttrium ions by interpolymer systems based on industrial ionites: KU 2-8 cationite and AB-17 anionite was studied. The dependences of the yttrium content in the aqueous medium after sorption by the interpolymer system were studied KU 2-8:AB17-8 depending on the time, the degree of binding of the polymer chain (with respect to yttrium ions) by the initial ionites and interpolymer systems KU 2-8: AB-17-8. The maximum content of yttrium ions in the aqueous medium after sorption is observed at ratios of 3:3 and 4: 2 and the duration of remote interaction is 88 hours. At the same time, the content of yttrium in the aqueous medium after sorption is 60 mol.% and 56.4 mol.%, respectively. High values of the degree of binding of the polymer chain with respect to yttrium are observed at the ratios KU 2-8: AB-17-8=3:3

Abstract:
During the operation of nuclear power plants, spent ion-exchange resins are formed, which are heterogeneous radioactive low-level waste in the form of particles from a cross-linked organic polymer. Such resins may not always be regenerated. Therefore, the disposal of spent ion exchange resins is currently one of the primary problems at nuclear power plants. Conventional technologies for the processing of waste resins are relatively expensive. In addition, there are difficulties with transportation and storage of waste, and the disposal of spent ion exchange resins is a complex process. In the present study, an attempt has been made to solve the problem of spent ion-exchange resins utilization on example of the sulfonic acid cation exchanger’s KU-2×8 oxidative degradation with the Fenton reaction. The decomposition of the cation exchanger was carried out with 20% hydrogen peroxide in the temperature range 323-353 K in the presence of a catalyst – low concentration copper(II) sulfate (0.001-0.009 mmol/l). The influence of process temperature and catalyst concentration on the reaction rate was estimated. When determining the rate of the cation exchanger KU-2×8 heterogeneous oxidation reaction with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalytic additive, the spherical shape of the sorbent granules, the surface area of which changed during reaction, was taken into account. It was shown that with a reaction temperature increasing from 323 to 353 K, the rate constant of cation exchanger's oxidative decomposition have increased by a factor of 20-37. The activation energy values of the sulfonic acid cation exchanger's KU-2×8 decomposition with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of copper(II) sulfate are 89.7-115.2 kJ/mol, which indicates that the process is in the kinetic mode. It was established with electron-microscopic studies that the beads of the cation exchanger KU-2×8, when decomposed in H2O2 solution in the presence of a catalyst can stick together, change their shape and volume, and their surface becomes covered with cracks. The studies performed showed almost complete catalytic decomposition of cation exchanger KU-2×8 in a hydrogen peroxide solution at 323-353 K after 420-220 minutes, which allows accelerating the oxidation at relatively low temperatures.

Abstract:
Sorbtion of dipeptides leucylisoleucine, threonylthreonine and their monomeric amino acids leucine and threonine by anionite AV-17 and cationite KU-2-8 in a wide range of equilibrium concentrations has been studied. It was shown that the presence of hydrophilic OH-groups in the threonine molecule promotes superequivalent sorbtion of threonine on the cation exchanger. The presence of an OH-groups in the side chein of the dipeptide practically does not affect the sorbtion an KU-2-8. Sorbtion of dipeptides on AV-17-8 is higher in comparison with their monomeric amino acids.

Abstract:
Many technological solutions contain valuable components as waste and can become an additional source of rare-earth elements to meet the needs of modern production. The development of technologies based on commercially available and cheap sorbents reveals the possibility for rare earth recovery from various solutions. This paper provides research on using a combination of KU-2-8 and AV-17-8 ion exchangers in different molar ratios for cerium ions sorption from its nitrate solution. The mutual activation of the ion exchangers in an aqueous medium provides their transformation into a highly ionized state by the conformational and electrochemical changes in properties during their remote interaction. The ion exchange dynamics of solutions were studied by the methods of electrical conductivity, pH measurements, and atomic emission analysis of the solutions. The research showed that the maximum activation of polymers was revealed within the molar ratio of KU-2-8:AV-17-8 equal to 3:3. In more detail, in comparison to AV-17-8, this interpolymer system showed an increase in the sorption degree by more than 1.5 times after 6 h of interaction. Moreover, compared with KU-2-8, the same interpolymer system showed an increase in the degree of cerium ions sorption by seven times after 24 h of interaction. As a result, the total cerium ions sorption degree after 48 h of sorption by individual KU-2-8 and AV-17-8 was 38% and 44%, respectively, whereas the cerium ions sorption degree by the same interpolymer system in the molar ratio 3:3 became 51%. An increase in the sorption degree of cerium ions by the interpolymer system in comparison with individual ion exchangers can be explained by the achievement of a high ionization degree of ion exchangers being activated in the interpolymer system by the remote interaction effect.

Abstract:
The regularities of sunflower, rapeseed and flaxseed oils’ triglycerides transesterification by the head fraction of ethyl alcohol in the presence of various catalysts have been investigated. The cation exchange resin KU-2-8 in H+-form and cation exchange resin KU-2-8 containing an immobilized Cu2+-ions (untreated and treated by 0,1 M sodium hydroxide solution for 90 min and for 7 days) were used as catalyst. It was shown that the all investigated catalysts except the untreated cation exchange resin KU-2-8 containing an immobilized Cu2+-ions allow to achieve of triglycerides conversion over 90 % under the reaction conditions. It was found that the catalyst KU-2-8 containing an immobilized Cu2+-ions treated by 0.1 M sodium hydroxide solution for 90 min shows the highest activity. Also it was found that this catalyst allows to achieve triglyceride conversion all of studied vegetable oils over 99.5% in 180 min of reaction. Simultaneously it was found that the highest rate of transesterification reaction in its presence is observed. The influence of these catalysts on the esterification reaction of free fatty acids, present in vegetable oils, by ethyl alcohol, present in the head fraction, was studied. It was established that the influence of the investigated catalysts on the esterification reaction is different. It was shown that cation exchange resin KU-2-8 containing an immobilized Cu2+-ions treated by 0.1 M sodium hydroxide solution for 90 min catalyzes the esterification reaction of free fatty acids of all investigated oils. Their conversion is from 21.6 % (in sunflower oil) up to 74.1 % (in rapeseed oil). At the same time, it was found that long-term treatment of cation exchange resin KU-2-8 containing an immobilized Cu2+-ions by sodium hydroxide solution leads to a sharp decrease or loss of catalyst activity in the esterification reaction of free fatty acids by ethyl alcohol. It was shown that the use of this catalyst for the transesterification of rapeseed and sunflower oils’ triglycerides even increases the acid number of the reaction mixture, namely to the partial hydrolysis of triglycerides. The obtained results show that the short-term treatment the cation exchange resin KU-2-8 containing an immobilized Cu2+-ions by 0.1 M alkali solution is one of the ways that allow to increase its catalytic activity in the transesterification process of vegetable oils by head fraction of ethyl alcohol. It is assumed that such treatment affects the catalytic activity of Cu2+-ions due to changes in the electron density on the catalyst cation caused the coordination of part of the OH–-anions. The long-term treatment of the cation exchange resin containing an immobilized Cu2+-ions by alkali solution causes a maximum saturation of the cation coordination sphere. This obviously creates steric problem of a reagents access to the catalyst and reduces the catalytic activity cation exchange resin.

It was studied processes of ion-exchange water purification from ammonium ions from model solutions on cation exchangers and on zeolite. It was established dependencies ammonium sorption on the form of ion exchanger, the ratio of ammonium and calcium in water and the level of ion concentrations in solution. It was shown that the strongly acid cation exchanger KU-2-8 in Na+-form has a low selectivity for ammonium ions, in comparison with the H+-form. It was established that the sorption efficiency of ammonium ions on cation exchangers KU-2-8 and Dowex Mac-3 decreases in the presence of calcium ions. It was determined that regeneration of cation exchanger KU-2-8 was more effective when hydrochloric acid solutions were used. It was shown that ammonium sorption on zeolite from tap water goes in the same way as from model solutions. It was determined the boundary capacity of the zeolite for ammonium ions and it was amounted 40 mg/g. The regeneration of zeolite with a sodium chloride solution was investigated and it was established that the degree of regeneration reached 100 %. Bibl. 16, Fig. 6, Tab. 1.

Abstract:
This article presents the technology of niobium recovery by processing of chloride residues generated during the chlorination of titanium slags. For waste processing, a two-stage leaching technology is proposed. Water is used at the first stage of leaching and hydrochloric acid 4.0 M is used at the second stage. For the purpose of sorption of niobium from the solution composition obtained during leaching, cation-exchange sorbents Purolite-C104 and KU-2-8 H were used. By the usage of Purolite-C104 ion exchange resin the sorption efficiency of niobium from a solution with a concentration of 2 g/l was about 71.0 % (0.071 g/g) in 3.5 hours, while for KU-2-8 H ion exchange resin, sorption efficiency was about 89.0 % (0.089 g/g).

Abstract:
In this paper we develop methods for classifying Baker, Richter, and Szymik's Azumaya algebras over a commutative ring spectrum, especially in the largely inaccessible case where the ring is nonconnective. We give obstruction-theoretic tools, constructing and classifying these algebras and their automorphisms with Goerss–Hopkins obstruction theory, and give descent-theoretic tools, applying Lurie's work on $\infty$-categories to show that a finite Galois extension of rings in the sense of Rognes becomes a homotopy fixed-point equivalence on Brauer spaces. For even-periodic ring spectra $E$, we find that the ‘algebraic’ Azumaya algebras whose coefficient ring is projective are governed by the Brauer–Wall group of $\pi _0(E)$, recovering a result of Baker, Richter, and Szymik. This allows us to calculate many examples. For example, we find that the algebraic Azumaya algebras over Lubin–Tate spectra have either four or two Morita equivalence classes, depending on whether the prime is odd or even, that all algebraic Azumaya algebras over the complex K-theory spectrum $KU$ are Morita trivial, and that the group of the Morita classes of algebraic Azumaya algebras over the localization $KU[1/2]$ is $\mathbb {Z}/8\times \mathbb {Z}/2$. Using our descent results and an obstruction theory spectral sequence, we also study Azumaya algebras over the real K-theory spectrum $KO$ which become Morita-trivial $KU$-algebras. We show that there exist exactly two Morita equivalence classes of these. The nontrivial Morita equivalence class is realized by an ‘exotic’ $KO$-algebra with the same coefficient ring as $\mathrm {End}_{KO}(KU)$. This requires a careful analysis of what happens in the homotopy fixed-point spectral sequence for the Picard space of $KU$, previously studied by Mathew and Stojanoska.

Abstract:
A MMIC double-balanced subharmonic diode ring mixer was designed for broadband satellite communications exploiting a GaAs pHEMT process. The circuit implements the frequency conversion from Q (43.5–50 GHz) to Ku-K band (17–21.5 GHz). Besides the RF, LO, and IF baluns, the MMIC integrates a buffer amplifier for the local oscillator signal, which is designed between X and Ku bands (11–16.5 GHz), due to the subharmonic operation. The mixer measured conversion loss is between 8 and 12 dB along the bandwidth, with an LO power of 9 dBm. The input p1 dB and IP3 are 2 and 15 dBm, respectively. The balanced structure ensures an LO and 2 × LO leakages at the IF port lower than −25 and −35 dBm, respectively. Other spurious remain below −67 dBc. The chip dimensions are 2.4 × 2.4 mm2.

Information on demographic, dietary and lifestyle characteristics was collected by standard questionnaires. Blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference, serum lipids and apolipoproteins were measured, and BMI (kg/m2) was calculated as weight divided by the square of height.ResultsThe prevalence rates of hypercholesterolaemia, hypertriacylglycerolaemia and hyperlipidaemia in Bai Ku Yao and Han were 12·4 % v. 26·2 % (P < 0·001), 15·0 % v. 14·8 % (P > 0·05) and 24·4 % v. 33·9 % (P < 0·001), respectively. Hyperlipidaemia was positively correlated with BMI, waist circumference, total energy and total fat intakes, and negatively associated with physical activity and total dietary fibre intake in Bai Ku Yao (P < 0·05 to 0·001). Hyperlipidaemia was positively associated with age, alcohol consumption, BMI, waist circumference, total energy and total fat intakes, and inversely correlated with physical activity and total dietary fibre intake in Han (P < 0·05 to 0·001).ConclusionsThe prevalence of hypercholesterolaemia and hyperlipidaemia was significantly lower in the Bai Ku Yao than in the Han population, which might result from different dietary habits, lifestyle choices and physical activity level, as well as genetic factors between the two ethnic groups.

3022 Background: PARP is a DNA strand break and base damage repair enzyme. Ku inhibits PARP-1 and 2 with a mean IC50 of 2nM. Inhibition of PARP leads to defective DNA repair and induces selective cytotoxicity in cells with defective homologous recombination repair through, for example, loss of BRCA 1/2 function (Farmer et al, Nature 2005 Apr 14;434(7035):917–21). This is a first in man Phase I trial of Ku. PD studies included functional evaluation of PARP-1 activity in surrogate and tumor tissue. Methods: Ku was administered once a day for 14 of every 21 days to p with advanced solid tumors refractory to standard treatment. Cohorts of 3–6 p were treated, with a starting dose of 10 mg/day. The dose was doubled in the absence of drug related grade 2 CTC-AE toxicity. Drug related toxicity in cancer patients known to carry a BRCA mutation is being compared to toxicity in other patients. Results: To date 12 p (6 male; median age 55y, range 25–73) with solid tumours have received 25 courses (range 1–8), with 1 p being a known BRCA1 mutation carrier (dose level 40mg). Dose levels evaluated to date include 10, 20, 40, and 80mg per day. Minimal toxicity has been observed to date, with only intermittent grade 1 nausea being reported. PK data to date, up to 40mg per day, supports dose proportionality with a mean elimination half-life of 6.91 hours (Range: 5.3–9.5), a mean clearance of 4.1 L/h (Range: 1.3–9.4) and a mean volume of distribution of 39.8 L (Range: 16.3–86.9). PD studies indicate inhibition of PARP functional activity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells with increasing inhibition observed with increasing dose of Ku. Initial studies in tumor biopsies performed pre-treatment and on day 8 revealed PARP inhibition of >50% at 40 mg/day. A p with metastatic soft tissue sarcoma and progressing disease pretreatment achieved stable disease for 24 weeks. Conclusions: Dose escalation continues with more BRCA carriers planned. PARP inhibition in both surrogate and tumor tissue is achievable with minimal toxicity in cancer patients, and has not resulted in any short term toxicity in a BRCA mutation carrier. Soybeans were planted in two systems namely monoculture (soybean) and polyculture (soybean are intercropped with 3 years of rubber trees). Both of Dena 1 and Anjasmoro varieties were cropped in those systems. Soybeans are cropped by using planting machine (ATBJ) which has planting distance 20 cm x 40 cm (1-2 seeds per hole). Plants were fertilized with 50 kg Urea per ha, 150 kg TSP per ha, 150 kg KCl per ha, manure 2,000 kg per ha, and dolomite 1,000 kg per ha. Mower were used for harvesting. The results showed that the growth and soybean yield in monoculture system was better than the polyculture. Yield of Anjasmoro in monoculture was 15.35 ku per ha, whereas the polyculture was 4.72 ku per ha. Meanwhile, the productivity of Dena 1 was 14.80 ku per ha and 7.38 ku per ha in polyculture system. The polyculture had a higher value of the land equivalent ratio than monoculture of rubber trees. Economically, the two planting systems that were examined also deserve to be done by farmers, where the value R/C > 1

Background:Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies are a group of rare heterogeneous diseases that require a multidisciplinary and standardized approach.Objectives:To clinically characterize patients with inflammatory myopathies followed at an hospital’s Rheumatology Department, using the Rheumatic Diseases Portuguese Register (Reuma.pt).Methods:An observational transversal study was performed. Data on demographic variables, clinical features, antibodies and treatment were collected.Results:Of the 121 included patients, 78% were female, with a median age of 56 [44-68] years and a median disease duration of 2 [0-4] years. The most frequent diagnosis was dermatomyositis (DM; n=28, 23%) followed by antisynthetase syndrome (ASyS; n=21, 17.4%). At the time of the analysis, the median Manual Muscle Test (MMT-8) was 80 [78-80], the median modified skin Disease Activity Score was 0 [0-2] and global disease activity was 0.5 [0-0.75]. Calcinosis was found in 6% of the patients (n=7), mostly DM cases. Interstitial lung disease (ILD) was present in 29 patients (24%), of those, 52% (n=15) had antisynthetase syndrome (ASyS). Three patients presented as a paraneoplastic syndrome. Ninety-nine patients (82%) had a myositis autoantibody identified: antisynthetase autoantibodies were the most commonly identified (n=20, 16%). 62% of the patients were treated with steroids and 35% with ≥2 disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs.Table 1 depicts the main clinical characteristics and the immunologic profile for each diagnosisConclusion:In our cohort the most frequent myositis subtype was DM. Almost a quarter of patients had associated ILD, which is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. This study examines the mechanisms of adsorption of anthocyanins from model aqueous solutions at pH values of 3, 6, and 9 by ion-exchange resins making the main component of heterogeneous ion-exchange membranes. This is the first report demonstrating that the pH of the internal solution of a KU-2-8 aromatic cation-exchange resin is 2-3 units lower than the pH of the external bathing anthocyanin-containing solution, and the pH of the internal solution of some anion-exchange resins with an aromatic (AV-17-8, AV-17-2P) or aliphatic (EDE-10P) matrix is 2–4 units higher than the pH of the external solution. This pH shift is caused by the Donnan exclusion of hydroxyl ions (in the KU-2-8 resin) or protons (in the AV-17-8, AV-17-2P, and EDE-10P resins). The most significant pH shift is observed for the EDE-10P resin, which has the highest ion-exchange capacity causing the highest Donnan exclusion. Due to the pH shift, the electric charge of anthocyanin inside an ion-exchange resin differs from its charge in the external solution. At pH 6, the external solution contains uncharged anthocyanin molecules. However, in the AV-17-8 and AV-17-2P resins, the anthocyanins are present as singly charged anions, while in the EDE-10P resin, they are in the form of doubly charged anions. Due to the electrostatic interactions of these anions with the positively charged fixed groups of anion-exchange resins, the adsorption capacities of AV-17-8, AV-17-2P, and EDE-10P were higher than expected. It was established that the electrostatic interactions of anthocyanins with the charged fixed groups increase the adsorption capacity of the aromatic resin by a factor of 1.8–2.5 compared to the adsorption caused by the π–π (stacking) interactions. These results provide new insights into the fouling mechanism of ion-exchange materials by polyphenols; they can help develop strategies for membrane cleaning and for extracting anthocyanins from juices and wine using ion-exchange resins and membranes.

The extraction of chemical compounds from hydromineral raw materials is currently a promising objective. The geothermal deposits in the Kamchatka Territory should be considered as possible sources of lithium, boron and other chemical compounds. Their economic efficiency is justified by the complexity of the use of resources of geothermal fluids. The article presents data obtained as a result of experimental studies of lithium sorption by KU-2-8 cation exchanger from model solutions that simulate geothermal fluids in the dynamic mode. It was shown that in the first phase of sorption, ion exchange results in the absorption of lithium and sodium ions by the hydrogen form of cation exchanger up to the degree of cation exchanger saturation by 78 %. After that, the displacement of lithium ions by sodium ions is observed. The intermediate solutions were obtained in which the molar ratio of Li/Na is 80 times higher than in the initial solution. To separate sodium and lithium, it is proposed to use the lithium form of cation exchanger obtained using a portion of lithium chloride concentrate. The separation occurs due to the displacement of lithium ions by sodium ions. The effluent has a molar ratio of Li/Na = 10.4. The regeneration is carried out with 1 n hydrochloric acid, while the concentration coefficient of sodium chloride equals three.

The article considers possibility of using inorganic sorbent – iron oxyhydrate (IOH) – to remove F– ions from process solutions of zinc production. The method of IOH synthesis is chosen. The results of scanning electron microscopy and X-ray phase analysis are presented. The principal possibility of using ion-exchange resins as IOH-modified carriers is considered. The paper studies active substance formation on anion and cation exchange resins. It is shown that the most durable composite sorbents are obtained using strongly acidic cation exchange resins with SO3– groups. A method for introducing IOH into the structure of carrier materials and obtaining composite sorbents is described. The KU-2×8 strongly acidic cation exchanger is recommended as a composite base. Cation exchangers saturated with iron were held in a sodium chloride solution with a concentration of 2,5 g/dm3 for 24 hours at 85 °C to ensure formation of β-modification IOH crystals distributed over the ion exchanger grain volume. Anion exchangers were held in an iron(III) sulfate solution with added sodium chloride for 24 hours at 85 °C. At the same time, iron oxyhydrate films formed on the surface of sorbent grains were observed. Fluorine sorption was carried out in a static mode from a standardized test solution with a concentration of F– = 100 mg/dm3 at 60 °C. Sorption on the AB-17×8 anionite was carried out at 20 °C. Absorbed fluorine was desorbed by the NaOH (0,1 M) solution at 60 °C for 2 hours. The synthesized KU-2×8-IOH composite sorbent has a fluorine capacity of 0,7–1,1 mg/g, and can be regenerated with resulting easily utilizable fluorine-containing eluate.

Methods: Purified tumor cells from Pt biopsies were placed into short term culture using the microculture kinetic (MiCK) assay. APOP was analyzed every five minutes over 48 hours. APOP was defined in kinetic units (KU) of apoptosis. Significant APOP was > 1.0 KU, significant differences between individual assays were defined as > 0.57 KU based on replicate analyses. Results from Breast CA, Colon CA and NSCLC were compared. Results: 41 Pts with NSCLC, 8 Pts with Colon CA and 67 Pts with Breast CA had successful cultures. Generics produced APOP greater than Proprietaries in 25/32 Pts with NSCLC (78%), 4/7 Pts with Colon CA (57%) and 36/43 Pts (84%) with Breast CA. Generics produced APOP = Proprietaries in 5 Pts with NSCLC (16%), 1 Pt with Colon CA (14%) and 6 Pts (14%) with Breast CA. Proprietaries produced APOP greater than Generics in 2 Pts with NSCLC (6%), 2 Pts with Colon CA (29%) and 1 Pt (2%) with Breast CA. There were 0 Pts with NSCLC, Colon CA or Breast CA in whom no drug produced significant APOP (KU less than 1.0). Proprietaries produced more APOP in Colon CA than in Breast CA (p<0.05). Detailed comparisons of drugs by disease will be presented. Conclusions: Generic drugs can produce APOP in vitro equal to or better than Proprietary drugs in most Pts with NSCLC, Colon CA, and Breast CA. The frequency of Generic drugs being at least as active as Proprietary drugs varies by disease, and was higher in Breast CA compared to Colon CA. However, the MiCK APOP assay can identify which individual Pts might require use of Proprietary drugs. These conclusions justify prospective clinical trials to confirm these in vitro results. Increased use of Generic drugs based on the APOP assay may help to control healthcare costs.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the results of cycloalkylation of phenol with 1-methylcyclopentene, 1(3)-methylcyclohexene in the presence of KU-23 catalyst and influence of various parameters on the yield of the target product. The reaction temperature was varied from 80 to 140 °C, the reaction time - from 2 to 8 h, molar ratio of phenol to cyclene – from 1:2 to 2:1 mol/mol, the catalyst amount – from 5 to 15%. Maximum yield of para-[1(3)-methylcycloalkyl] phenols is obtained under the following conditions: temperature – 110-120 °C, duration – 5-6 h, molar ratio of phenol to 1(3)-methylcycloalkene – 1:1 mol/mol and the catalyst amount is 10% based on taken phenol. Simultaneously, the yield of the target products – para-[1(3)-methylcycloalkyl] phenols is 68.6-73.5% per taken phenol, the selectivity is 91.8-94.3% on the target product. As a result of the chromatographic studies of the products of phenol cycloalkylation with 1(3)-methylcycloalkenes in the presence of KU-23 catalyst it becames clear that the alkylate mainly contains paracycloalkyl-substituted phenols (89.6-94.1%). After rectification of the alkylate at low pressure (10 mm Hg), the target products were obtained with a purity of 97.6-98.2% and their physico-chemical properties were determined. The resulting para-[1(3)-methylcycloalkyl] phenols were aminomethylated by formaldehyde and aminoethylnonylimidazoline at the ratio of 1:2:2. As a result, Mannich bases were obtained with yield of 68.3-76.7% from theory. The synthesized methylcycloalkylbenzylaminoethylnonylimidazolines were tested as antioxidants of M-8 engine oil. The oxidation resistance of the oil has been investigated without the addition and with the addition of ИХП-21 antioxidants, known benzylphenylamines and the compounds of the invention. Addition of the obtained compounds to the base oil leads to enhancement of its antioxidant properties, at application of which viscosity increase is 14.07-15.28%, and precipitate - 0.45-0.57%.

Reassortment is an important mechanism in the evolution of group A rotaviruses (RVAs), yielding viruses with novel genetic and phenotypic traits. The classical methods for generating RVA reassortants with the desired genetic combinations are laborious and time-consuming because of the screening and selection processes required to isolate a desired reassortant. Taking advantage of a recently developed RVA reverse genetics system based on just 11 cloned cDNAs encoding the RVA genome (11 plasmid-only system), we prepared a panel of simian SA11-L2 virus-based single-gene reassortants, each containing 1 segment derived from human KU virus of the G1P[8] genotype. It was shown that there was no gene-specific restriction of the reassortment potential. In addition to these 11 single-gene reassortants, a triple-gene reassortant with KU-derived core-encoding VP1–3 gene segments with the SA11-L2 genetic background, which make up a virion composed of the KU-based core, and SA11-L2-based intermediate and outer layers, could also be prepared with the 11 plasmid-only system. Finally, for possible clinical application of this system, we generated a series of VP7 reassortants representing all the major human RVA G genotypes (G1–4, G9 and G12) efficiently. The preparation of each of these single-gene reassortants was achieved within just 2 weeks. Our results demonstrate that the 11 plasmid-only system allows the rapid and reliable generation of RVA single-gene reassortants, which will be useful for basic research and clinical applications.

Transesterification of sunflower oil triglycerides by C1-C4 aliphatic alcohols in the presence of cation exchange resin KU-2-8 with immobilized divalent metal ions has been studied. It was found that the reaction occurs at a high initial rate and the conversion of triglycerides for 180 min in presence aliphatic alcohols C1– C3 is 88.4-99.8 %. It is shown that under these conditions the rate of transesterification reaction of triglycerides with butan-1-ol is significantly lower and the conversion achieved in 180 min does not exceed 52.3 %.

A cavity-backed microstrip patch antenna array was optimized in the Ku band. The backing cavity was designed under each patch antenna of the array in order to increase the bandwidth and minimize the intercoupling among the radiating elements. Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology was employed to fabricate the above-mentioned cavity below the radiating patch. More precisely, four microstrip array antennas, made by 2 × 2, 4 × 4, 8 × 8, and 16 × 16 elements were designed, fabricated, and characterized. The measured maximum gain was G = 13 dBi, G = 18.7 dBi, G = 23.8 dBi, and G = 29.2 dBi, respectively. The performance of the proposed antenna arrays was evaluated in terms of radiation pattern and bandwidth. An extensive feasibility investigation was performed even from the point of different materials/costs in order to state the potential of the engineered antennas in actual applications. The obtained results indicate that a cavity-backed microstrip patch antenna is a feasible solution for broadband digital radio and other satellite communication overall for niche applications.

This study describes a new approach to obtain para-tert-butylcumene by alkylation of cumene with isobutylene in the presence of catalysts, such as Amberlyst 36 Dry, KU-2-8, aluminum chloride, and tert-butyl alcohol and concentrated sulfuric acid.Methods. To determine the qualitative and quantitative composition of the compounds and reaction masses, the following analysis methods were used: gas–liquid chromatography (on the Kristall 2000M hardware-software complex), chromatomass spectrometry on an Agilent 6850 instrument equipped with an Agilent 19091S-433E capillary column (30 m × 250 μm × 0.25 μm), and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (on a Bruker DRX 400 instrument with an operating frequency of 400 MHz).Results. A significant quantity of meta-tert-butylcumene was obtained by the alkylation of cumene with isobutylene using several catalysts, along with para-tert-butylcumene. This study also showed that the use of the catalysts Amberlyst 36 Dry and KU-2-8 during alkylation in a closed system (autoclave) led to the formation of isobutylene oligomers, often in quantity greater than the target reaction product. Simultaneously, the alkylation of cumene with tert-butyl alcohol in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid enabled the obtainment of only one isomer, para-tertbutylcumene, which is essential for the further production of high-purity para-tert-butyl phenol.Conclusions. Sulfuric acid alkylation of cumene with tert-butyl alcohol enabled the obtainment of an individual para-isomer of tert-butylcumene with a yield of 87–89% for the loaded tert-butyl-alcohol with a cumene conversion of ~30%.

ABSTRACT End joining of double-strand breaks (DSBs) requires Ku proteins and frequently involves base pairing between complementary terminal sequences. To define the role of terminal base pairing in end joining, two oppositely oriented HO endonuclease cleavage sites separated by 2.0 kb were integrated into yeast chromosome III, where constitutive expression of HO endonuclease creates two simultaneous DSBs with no complementary end sequence. Lack of complementary sequence in their 3′ single-strand overhangs facilitates efficient repair events distinctly different from when the 3′ ends have a 4-bp sequence base paired in various ways to create 2- to 3-bp insertions. Repair of noncomplementary ends results in a set of nonrandom deletions of up to 302 bp, annealed by imperfect microhomology of about 8 to 10 bp at the junctions. This microhomology-mediated end joining (MMEJ) is Ku independent, but strongly dependent on Mre11, Rad50, and Rad1 proteins and partially dependent on Dnl4 protein. The MMEJ also occurs when Rad52 is absent, but the extent of deletions becomes more limited. The increased gamma ray sensitivity of rad1Δ rad52Δ yku70Δ strains compared to rad52Δ yku70Δ strains suggests that MMEJ also contributes to the repair of DSBs induced by ionizing radiation.

Background:Immunoblot assays are increasingly used in clinical practice as part of the diagnostic armamentarium of systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs).Objectives:To assess the contribution of an extended scleroderma/myositis-related antibodies (Ab) determination by immunoblot to the diagnosis of patients with SARDs.Methods:We reviewed all medical records of patients with positive scleroderma/myositis-related Ab line blot determinations (Euroimmune AG, Lübeck, Germany) in our center from November 2017 to September 2020. These assays were requested due to high suspicion of SARDs in patients presenting with non-specific symptoms.Results:134 patients (37men/97women; mean age 59.6 ± 14.8 years) were positive for at least 1 Ab, 25 of them were positive for 2 Abs. Main clinical features at the time of immunoblot requests were: arthralgia/arthritis (n=88), Raynaud’s phenomenon (n=59), rash (n=27), sicca syndrome (n=14.9%), myopathy (n=18). During follow-up, 28 patients were diagnosed with undifferentiated connective tissue disease (UCTD), 26 scleroderma, 23 overlap myositis, 18 interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF), 8 other inflammatory diseases, 8 Sjögren’s syndrome, 7 systemic lupus erythematosus, 5 dermatomyositis, 1 necrotizing myositis. In 10 patients the diagnosis of SARD was finally ruled out (Figure 1). Interstitial lung disease (ILD) was present in 50 patients, being particularly frequent in those with anti-PL12, anti-PL7 and anti-MDA5 Abs. Cancer was detected in 9 (6.7%) patients, 6 of them were anti-Ro52 + (Table 1).Conclusion:Immunoblot assays are of great help in the diagnosis of patients with high clinical suspicion of SARDs. Abstract. The core satellite of the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission provides precipitation observations measured with the Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR). The precipitation can only be estimated from the radar data, and therefore independent validations using direct precipitation measurements on the ground as a true reference need to be performed. Moreover, the quality and the accuracy of satellite observational data depend on various influencing factors, such as altitude, topography and rainfall type. In this way, a validation may help to minimise those uncertainties. The DPR Level 2 algorithms provide three different sets of radar rain rate estimates: Ku-band-only rain rates, Ka-band-only rain rates, and a product using both the Ku and Ka band. This study presents an evaluation of the three GPM-DPR surface precipitation estimates based on the gridded precipitation data of the WegenerNet, a local-scale terrestrial network of 153 meteorological stations in southeastern Austria. The validation is based on graphical and statistical approaches, using only data where both Ku- and Ka-band measurements are available. The focus lies on the resemblance of the rainfall variability within the whole network and the over- and underestimation of the precipitation through the GPM-DPR. The analysis rests upon 15 rainfall events observed by the GPM-DPR over the WegenerNet in the last 4 years; the meteorological winter is excluded due to technical challenges of snow measurements. The WegenerNet provides between 8 and 12 gauges within each GPM-DPR footprint. Its biases are well studied and corrected; thus, it can be taken as a robust ground reference. This work also includes considerations on the limits of such comparisons between small terrestrial networks with a high density of stations and precipitation observations from a satellite. Our results show that the GPM-DPR estimates basically match with the WegenerNet measurements, but absolute quantities are biased. The three types of radar estimates deliver similar results, where Ku-band and dual-frequency estimates are very close to each other. On a general level, Ka-band precipitation estimates deliver better results due to their greater sensitivity to low rainfall rates.

ABSTRACT The 2-nitrobenzoic acid degradation pathway of Pseudomonas fluorescens strain KU-7 proceeds via a novel 3-hydroxyanthranilate intermediate. In this study, we cloned and sequenced a 19-kb DNA locus of strain KU-7 that encompasses the 3-hydroxyanthranilate meta-cleavage pathway genes. The gene cluster, designated nbaEXHJIGFCDR, is organized tightly and in the same direction. The nbaC and nbaD gene products were found to be novel homologs of the eukaryotic 3-hydroxyanthranilate 3,4-dioxygenase and 2-amino-3-carboxymuconate-6-semialdehyde decarboxylase, respectively. The NbaC enzyme carries out the oxidation of 3-hydroxyanthranilate to 2-amino-3-carboxymuconate-6-semialdehyde, while the NbaD enzyme catalyzes the decarboxylation of the latter compound to 2-aminomuconate-6-semialdehyde. The NbaC and NbaD proteins were overexpressed in Escherichia coli and characterized. The substrate specificity of the 23.8-kDa NbaC protein was found to be restricted to 3-hydroxyanthranilate. In E. coli, this enzyme oxidizes 3-hydroxyanthranilate with a specific activity of 8 U/mg of protein. Site-directed mutagenesis experiments revealed the essential role of two conserved histidine residues (His52 and His96) in the NbaC sequence. The NbaC activity is also dependent on the presence of Fe2+ but is inhibited by other metal ions, such as Zn2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+. The NbaD protein was overproduced as a 38.7-kDa protein, and its specific activity towards 2-amino-3-carboxymuconate-6-semialdehyde was 195 U/mg of protein. Further processing of 2-aminomuconate-6-semialdehyde to pyruvic acid and acetyl coenzyme A was predicted to proceed via the activities of NbaE, NbaF, NbaG, NbaH, NbaI, and NbaJ. The predicted amino acid sequences of these proteins are highly homologous to those of the corresponding proteins involved in the metabolism of 2-aminophenol (e.g., AmnCDEFGH in Pseudomonas sp. strain AP-3). The NbaR-encoding gene is predicted to have a regulatory function of the LysR family type. The function of the product of the small open reading frame, NbaX, like the homologous sequences in the nitrobenzene or 2-aminophenol metabolic pathway, remains elusive.
