Full textDen här uppsatsen behandlar idiomatiska uttryck i det svenska språket. Huvudsyftet har varit att undersöka i vilken utsträckning det svenska folket känner till betydelsen av ett utvalt antal idiom samt också i vilken mån dessa idiom används. Undersökningen genomfördes med enkäter där 139 informanter, varav ungefär hälften gick i högstadiet och den andra hälften var över 50 år, fick kryssa i flervalsfrågor om betydelse och användning för 20 idiom. Resultatet visade att de äldre informanterna inte bara hade en bättre kännedom om idiomens betydelser, utan också använde sig av idiomen i större utsträckning än de yngre. Vidare gick det att utifrån resultatet se att några av idiomen, främst "Göra en björntjänst", håller på att genomgå en förändring i sin betydelse medan andra idiom, såsom "Vara en katt bland hermeliner", verkar vara på väg att försvinna ur vårt språk.

Full textThe aim with this study is to see how English education can be practiced in the Swedish grades 4, 5 and 6. We are interested in seeing how different teachers in different schools work and what teaching methods they use. At the same time we want to see how the pupils’ needs and interests affect the choice of teaching method. We also want to study how the choice of method influences the pupils’ motivation in the English subject. Our question formulations are: • What methods do English teachers use in their teaching and how can they be practiced? • How do English teachers take every pupil’s individual needs in consideration when it comes to the choice of teaching method? • What effect does the choice of teaching method have on the pupils when it comes to their interest and motivation in the English subject? Do the teachers’ opinions about the pupils’ attitudes differ from the pupils’? To implement this study we have chosen to interview five English teachers in the Swedish grades 4-6 in the same commune in Sweden. To find out about the pupils’ motivation and interest in the subject we have done a questionnaire study in the classes where the respondents in the interview are teaching. The result shows that the teachers are similar when it comes to the choice of teaching method. All teachers have a communicative approach but are not particularly conversant in different methods. Instead they base their thoughts on the view of the curriculum and the syllabus. However, we can see that they in their teaching, have influences from the method Communicative Language Teaching. Due to the fact that the teachers do not use a specific method, our second question formulation was difficult to answer and instead we had to focus on how they implement individualization. The teachers and the pupils do not always have they same opinion about the motivation of the pupils. We discovered that a good classroom climate, high but reasonable demands and the use of more materials than the teaching aid have positive affects on the motivation.

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to give an account of how four Swedish Somalis view Swedishness and to examine possible obstacles they identify to be considered as Swedish. I have examined how they look at their identities and how this relates to how they view home and homeland. I show that my informants responds to Swedishness in partially varying ways and that there are also several common ways of reasoning among them. Becoming totally Swedish is something my informants both choose not to be and something they do not feel they have the opportunity to become. How my informants consider themselves is highly dependent not only of others' dealing with them, but also what they suppose others think of them. In order to understand my informants perceived exclusion, I discuss what they feel excluded from and in which situations the exclusion comes into question. The experience of being excluded from Swedishness can in turn create other identities and provide new solidarities.

Full textThe study examines teachers' perceptions of the importance of play in teaching. The purpose of the study is to get knowledge of the importance and function of play in Swedish teaching in year 1 and the teacher's role in supporting and guiding the play. The study is based on the following issues: How does a teacher describe the importance of play in pupils' language development in Swedish? How does a teacher describe the space for play and its conditions in grade 1? How do teachers view their own role in the play? This study is based on the sociocultural perspective and cognitive development theory. The study was conducted using a qualitative method in the form of semi-structured interviews, in which four teachers participated. The teachers are divided into two different schools in the same municipality. The collected data material has been coded and then placed into different categories based on the study's issues. The result shows that there is a consensus among the teachers who believe that the play is important for the pupils' development. The important thing about the play is that it is a fun activity that contributes to a feeling of community in the group. When students play, there is an opportunity for communication which in turn contributes to language development. The space for play is said to have diminished, where the time aspect and the goal-driven school affect its space. When play is used, it is in more formal forms where the teachers take an active role in guiding the game.
