Abstract:
AbstractWe prove that degrees that are low for Kurtz randomness cannot be diagonally non-recursive. Together with the work of Stephan and Yu [16], this proves that they coincide with the hyperimmune-free non-DNR degrees, which are also exactly the degrees that are low for weak 1-genericity.We also consider Low(ℳ, Kurtz), the class of degrees a such that every element of ℳ is a-Kurtz random. These are characterised when ℳ is the class of Martin-Löf random, computably random, or Schnorr random reals. We show that Low(ML, Kurtz) coincides with the non-DNR degrees, while both Low(CR, Kurtz) and Low(Schnorr, Kurtz) are exactly the non-high, non-DNR degrees.

Abstract:
With the announcement in 1978 (Kurtz, 1978) of short periodic photometric variations of HD 101065, the first member of a subgroup of CP2 stars was found. This gained attention due to the possibility of applying the methods of stellar seismology to late A to early F type stars. However, the extremely low photometric amplitude of these stars, which is typically few millimagnitudes in B, and the short periods, ranging from few minutes to about 15 minutes, make these stars difficult to discover and a considerable amount of telescope time is required to accumulate sufficient data for a reliable analysis of the frequency spectrum. As a consequence aliasing imposes serious problems. Synchronous observations from observatories well separated in longitude could overcome this dilemma, and have indeed proven to be sucessful (Kurtz and Seeman, 1983; Kurtz and Balona, 1984; Kurtz, Schneider and Weiss, 1985; Kurtz and Kreidl, 1985).

Abstract:
Daniel Kurtz (Curz, Kurz, Kurc), baletmistrz Teatru Narodowego w czasach króla Stanisława Augusta, był znakomitym tancerzem i autorem wielu podziwianych baletów.

Abstract:
This research proposes a survey and study the works of Milton Kurtz (1951 - 1996), architect and artist who developed his technique essentially based on drawing, participating in groups of artists that promoted a discussion and a cultural effervescence in state of Rio Grande do Sul in the final of the 70's and beginning of the 80's. The main bias is linked to the presence of a visuality that shows a link with his contemporary and the mass media. With references in comics, magazines, newspapers, advertisements, movies and television, making up his personal collection, Kurtz produced an intense work with verifiable approaches to the spirit characteristic of Pop Art. The research proposes a survey of these approaches, and the study of his poetic feature that shows a strong bias erotic, exploring issues of body and revealing ambiguities and dualities related to the bi-dimensionality and to the gender issues. This study also aims to contribute to the proper record in the history of art in the state, not just the work of Milton Kurtz, but also the KVHR, group of artists which participated actively since November 1977 to May 1980, with Julio Viega, Paulo Haeser and Mário Röhnelt.

Abstract:

A theorem by Kurtz on convergence of Markov jump processes is presented as it relates to the use of the chemical master equation. Necessary mathematical background in the theory of stochastic processes is developed, as well as requirements of the mathematical model necessitated by results in the physical sciences. Applicability and usefulness of the master equation for this type of combinatorial model in chemistry is discussed, as well as analytical connections and modern applications in multiple research fields.

Abstract:
The demand for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is increasing steadily. In 2007, Kurtz et al. [1] predicted that TKA procedures would increase from 402,100 in 2003 to 3.48 million by 2030. Recent US national inpatient survey data have borne out these trends [2, 3]. Furthermore, demand is growing fastest in people younger than 65 [4] — patients who will need their implants to last the longest. The major factors limiting prosthesis longevity involve wear of the polyethylene bearing surfaces. Wear continues to be a problem at the knee; for example, advances that reduce hip implant wear such as crosslinking of polyethylene are not widely used in TKA due to fears of early material breakdown under knee loading conditions [5]. Preclinical TKA testing is performed with knee wear simulators under generic walking conditions. Efforts are ongoing by us [6] and others [7] to improve the physiological relevance of current testing standards. Nevertheless, a simulator would need to run ∼eight months continuously to simulate 20 years of walking, assuming one-million steps per year and speed of one cycle per second. As a complementary tool, computational models can test multiple conditions efficiently and ensure a faster turnaround time in the design process to eliminate inferior designs earlier. The purpose of this work is to describe a computational framework for predicting TKA loading, and ultimately implant longevity, on a patient-specific basis. The rationale is that, after developing a patient-specific computational framework, TKA designs of any material and under any patient behavior can be modulated to promote contact conditions best for implant longevity.

Globalizacijos procesai, informacinių technologijų pažanga sudaro sąlygas formuotis žinių ekonomikai, augimo galimybėms ir nulemia visuomenės gebėjimą kurti, naudoti ir nuolatos atnaujinti žinias. Organizacijos, siekiančios sujungti individų žinias ir panaudoti jas verslo procesams valdyti, vertei kurti, tikslinga naudoti tinklus. Tinkluose tiek organizacijas, tiek asmenis vienija bendras tikslas, skirtingų sričių greita žinių sklaida, lygiateisiškas bendravimas ir bendradarbiavimas. Todėl straispsyje analizuojama žinių svarba tinkluose, apibrėžiama tinklų ir tinklaveikos samprata. Formuojantis tinklinėms struktūroms, dalyvaujant tinkluose ir dalijantis žiniomis, tarp asmenų grupių atsiradę ryšiai, sudaro prielaidas žinioms sklisti greičiau, t. y. sukuriama žinių galia, todėl straipsnyje yra nagrinėjama žinių ir ryšių sąsajos bei pateikiama žinių galios formulė.
