Full textBackground: It can be perceived by the staff at the emergency departments that personcentered care is not possible given the short care meetings, set routines and various control documents for triaging and management of patients. This requires clarification of the concept and identifying factors that influence the application of person-centered care to the emergency department. Aim: Illustrate person-centered nursing in clinical work at emergency departments for adults, to identify various factors that may affect the possibilities of performing person-centered nursing. Method: Observational study with subsequent short semi-structured interviews with nine patients at an emergency department with qualitative content analysis and descriptive approach. Results: The results of the study build’s up to three main categories that reflect the content of the observations and interviews. Main categories with associated subcategories are: Personcentered care can affect the patient's experience of care- Person-centered care can affect the patients experience of care- A good response creates security and trust, the care staff's influence on the patients story, the patients expectation to have time for undisturbed conversation, to build a relationship through partnership. The patients expectations of their time given at the emergency- Time aspect in the history of taking care affects the patient in different ways. Good communication is a way of conveying information- The verbal and nonverbal communication of the health care staff affects the patients confidence, being informative creates participation, information through documentation. Conclusion: Nurses working in emergency care have different abilities in caring for patients regarding person- centered care and how they choose to allocate time in patients and communicate to create a relationship. This can be realized by strengthening the healthcare staff's ability to respond, receive continuous information and communicate.

Full textAbstract The Covid-19 (Corona) pandemic struck in the spring of 2020, creating concern and anxiety amongst the population at large and in schools especially. The authorities decided at a national level that primary schools should remain open and that education should continue as usual, as opposed to teaching remotely via digital media. Despite this directive, teachers at the local level acted differently, making their own decisions or following those of their local principals. The purpose of this study, which is based on reflective school didactic theory (Uljens, 2011) and relational theory (Aspelin, 2018) is to investigate and broaden our knowledge of how middle school teachers in science subjects described how they taught students who remained at home in subject specific reading comprehension. The study also examines how they maintained their relationship with students at home during the spring of 2020 from a school didactic and relational perspective. Nine middle school science teachers were interviewed individually following a qualitative, semi-structured form of interviews. The analysis reflects a realistic interpretation (Kvale & Brinkmann, 2020) of the teachers’ accounts as to how they had taught remotely, and the analysis of the empiric material was based on the study’s three research questions: interpretation of national directives, didactic choices and maintaining relationships. The results of the study revealed considerable variation in the respondents’ answers to all research questions. The study’s main contribution to previous research illustrates how teachers interpreted directives from the state at the national level in different ways. The study also shows that different ways of teaching science subjects and supporting students’ subject specific reading comprehension can be challenging when teaching remotely. Consequently, the teacher’s didactic choice, the teachings what, how and who/which in remote teaching can be decisive. Most of the teachers interviewed for the study experienced challenges in maintaining relationships. However, the study concluded that in cases where teachers had interactive meetings via digital video channels, they found it was possible to create a personal contact and relate to the students who could see and be seen on an emotional as well as educational level. As the study focused on an unexplored field at the national level, further research into the didactic and relational choices that teachers made during the first wave of the pandemic in the spring of 2020 is of the utmost importance, so that in the event of further waves of the virus, teachers will be able to maintain their relations with students and at the same time provide the same teaching experience for subject-specific reading comprehension and any special needs support whether the students are at home or at school.

Full textIntroduction: Compared to other occupational groups, farmers account for the most deaths due to stress and mental illness. Therefore, social support is becoming extremely important, as it seems to act as a health buffer against the stress and anxiety that many farmers suffer in their professional lives. Aim: The purpose of this study is to examine and describe farmers' experiences in social support. Method: Semi-structured interviews based on questions that reflected the study issue were held with Swedish farmers. The material was analysed and compiled through a qualitative content analysis, in which both the latent and manifest content were interpreted. Result: Farmers' experiences of social support is characterized by family and friends. When their support is not sufficient, most farmers say they are prepared to turn to professional actors, but ideally they turn to a familiar support. The family contributes both to social support and an experience of high demands. Summary: Farmers have several different sources of social support and generally positive experiences of these. What sometimes holds farmers back from seeking social support is the old traditional attitudes and the profession's strong ties to the family. Farmers do not want to worry their family and therefore they wait to tell them about worries.

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe cancer patients’ experiences of quality of life and wellbeing in relation to yoga practice.
Method: A descriptive qualitative study with semi structured interviews was carried out during the fall of 2009 at the University of Uppsala. Informants in the study were cancer patients who were participating in the yoga/psychotherapy group at the clinic of oncology at the Akademiska hospital in Uppsala.
Result: Five out of six informants experienced that their quality of life and their wellbeing improved by practicing yoga. One informant had mixed feelings which were not due to the yoga practicing, but to the place where it was practiced. For her this place was associated with illness. Informants accentuated the importance of the fellowship in the yoga/psychotherapy group. They experienced that yoga practicing could not be separated from psychotherapy and vice versa. Informants believed that yoga and psychotherapy reinforced each other’s effect. The study showed that the yoga exercises had been of great help, for example, in connection with medical examinations or as a tool to cope with one’s situation, thoughts and/or secondary effects of the disease and pain experience. The yoga had strengthened the informants both physically, psychologically and spiritually. It helped them to cope with sleeping difficulties and respiratory difficulties. The study also shed light on two aspects previously not included in yoga research: respiratory difficulties and sexuality.
Conclusion: The study displayed that the informants experienced that yoga had a positive effect on their quality of life and wellbeing. Further studies are suggested (qualitative and quantitative) that examine the joint influence of yoga/psychotherapy on the quality of life and wellbeing as well as the aspects “Breathing difficulties” and “Sexuality”.

Full textDelaktighet i examensarbetet är olika grader av inflytande en individ eller grupper av individer har. Inflytande är information, konsultation, dialog, inflytande och medbeslutande. Socialt stöd ingår i examensarbetet som teoretisk förankring. Det sociala stödet är betydande för delaktigheten hos individen. Västerås stad gjorde brukarenkäter under hösten 2017. Resultatet från enkäterna visade att delaktigheten hos individerna med funktionshinder var låg vid flera LSS-gruppbostäder och dagliga verksamheter. Därför började nämnder, förvaltningar och enhetschefer att arbeta med delaktighet som mål och mått vid deras verksamheter. Syftet med studien är att kvalitativt undersöka vad individer med funktionshinder anser att delaktighet är samt att undersöka individernas upplevelser av delaktighet vid LSS-gruppbostäder och dagliga verksamheter. En kvalitativ studie har genomförts med semistrukturerade intervjuer. Urvalet till intervjuerna är kvinnor och män med funktionshinder i åldrarna 27-59 år boende vid LSS-gruppbostäder, arbetande på dagliga verksamheter. Analysmetoden som genomförts är kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Studien visar att individerna anser att delaktighet är ett begrepp med flera innebörder; medbeslutande, gemenskap, engagemang, tillhörighet, socialt stöd, arbetsmiljö et cetera. Individerna upplever sig delaktiga vid LSS-gruppbostäderna och vid de dagliga verksamheterna. Individerna vill ha mer socialt stöd och ett mer likartat arbetssätt från personalen. Därtill önskar individerna fler kontaktpersoner.

Full textIn 2020, the world was hit by a pandemic, a widespread virus called Covid-19 that has negatively affected both organizations and individuals around the world, which has shown that successful crisis communication is important for organizations. Because of this, it is important that the organization has knowledge of how to adapt its crisis communication in social media to the type of crisis that Covid-19 is. Therefore, this essay focuses on crisis communication in social media for the professional group of communicators during a pandemic like Covid-19. The purpose is to investigate and identify factors that are important for the professional group of communicators when they are to communicate in crisis on social media, as well as to investigate and identify the most important characteristics of social media to use during a pandemic such as Covid-19. The essay is based on empirical material in the form of interviews and the method used is a qualitative methodological approach with semi-structured interviews, with the intention of studying the knowledge and experiences that the respondents possess. The thesis is also supported by research in the use of social media during a pandemic and the role of the communicator during a pandemic that together builds a pre-understanding of the subject. The essay results in six important features of social media that can be used in a crisis such as Covid-19 and five theoretical and practical factors that are important for the communicator to start from in crisis communication during a pandemic. The six important characteristics of social media are dissemination, measurability, ownership, external monitoring, source of information and dialogue. The five factors that the essay resulted in are the situation, resources, factual and fact-based information, fast communication process and interaction. The factors can generate a successful crisis communication during Covid-19 and similar crises.

Full textThe current study has, through semi-structured interviews with refugees aimed at from refugees perspective identify methodological barriers in refugee studies. The importance of studies relating to this target group is constantly increasing, especially considering the increased migration flows. Within the literature, the methodological barriers are divided into three categories, which are structural, individual and institutional barriers. In this study, only the first two have been treated. The theory of social capital has been used as a theoretical framework, as it demonstrates the importance of social relations and social trust in the improvement of social structure. The result generated in this study has indicated a moderate degree of consistency among the respondents, where there is consensus that the most appropriate approach to reaching out to them is through an organization. Knowledge about culture has been emphasized as important, while other factors such as gender, age and origin have not been as decisive factors for the willingness to participate in a research context. There were different opinions regarding the language skills the interviewer should have, where it is crucial for one of the respondents, but not for the other. Finally, there was consensus that some issues were not appropriate to ask.

Full textStudies points to an overrepresentation of transgender people with autism. Both transgender persons and persons with autism have an increased vulnerability of mental illness. There is a shortage of studies where these people are heard and can tell what it’s like to live with two nonnormative identities. The purpose of this study is to investigate how transgender people with autism experience norms regarding gender and ability and also how these norms affect their access to healthcare. This study is based on a qualitative method with an inductive approach. Six transgender people with autism was interviewed in a semistructured form. Goffman’s theory of stigma is used to analyze the empirics. The result shows that the informants are generally more negatively affected when breaking gender norms than norms regarding ability, especially in the context of healthcare providers. A common strategy is to hide stigmas. Sometimes by hiding both of one's minority identities and sometimes only one of them. The participants in this study have a harder time to utilize strengthening contexts with other LGBTQ-persons based on their autism-specific difficulties. They meet several barriers based on their minority identities in contact with healthcare. Having autism is seldom something being discussed in healthcare or privately. The informants usually seek healthcare despite this. Summarily, there’s a need of more trans- and autism competence in healthcare. Healthcare providers as well as LGBTQ-organizations need to pay attention to needs of adaptation. It would be favorable to offer contexts where there is space to be both transgender and have autism, without reservations.

Full textBackground: Previous recommendations said that new mothers should rest after giving birth. But more recently research has stated that it is important to do exercises for your abs postpartum. Aim: The aim of this study was to examine new mothers views of abtraining postpartum and how these views are turned into actual practice. Method: A qualitative research approach was used and semi-structured interviews was performed with eight new mothers. Data were analyzed by using content analysis. Results: Five main categories were formed. These were views of abtraining, to exercise your abs, assimilating information on exercise, things that facilitates training and not get into the workout. Conclusion: The mothers that expressed that they didn´t know much about exercises did not actually do exercises for their abs. Those who trained used apps or books appropiate for new mothers or went to mother-child classes. The most common source of information was the Internet. However mothers questioned its reliability. Facilitators were the possibility to attend organized training, gyms offering different solutions and the opportunity to childfree time. Barriers were everyday life, lack of childcare, as well as physical problems.

Full textThe aim of this study is to explore the instrumental teachers' perceptions and experience of working with rhythm in instrumental teaching. To investigate the this purpose, four instrumental teachers have been interviewed about rhythmically-inspired teaching. The background chapter describes the Dalcroze method, rhythmically-inspired teaching and previous research on rhythmics. The theoretical starting point for this study is a pheomenolocical perspective with a life-world perspective used to take part in the instrumental teachers' experience in the use of rhythmically-inspired teaching. The method used in this study consists of semi-structured interviews and is presented in the method chapter. Thematic analysis is also presented as the studys method of analysis. The result chapter presents the instrumental teachers' use and view of rhythmically inspired teaching. The chapter is divided into three themes: the view of rhythmically-inspired teaching, the use of rhythmically-inspired teaching andconstraints. The results show that the teachers use rhythmic themes in a similar way. However they use it in various amount. Rhythmically-inspired teaching that emerges is handclaps, stamp, pulse and the body is used for the learning of pace, periodicity and gesture. Evident in the analysis is that most teachers in the study want to use rhythmically inspired teaching but due to limitations such as time, space and ignorance, they do not. These teachers also want more education to learn more about rhythmics and how it can be integrated with the instruments they teach. In the discussion, the study's research questions are divided in two themes: the use of rhythmically-inspired teaching and the view of rhythmically-inspired teaching.

Full textMentalization is the ability to understand and to think about your own and other people’s intentions and internal mental states. Impaired mentalizing occur when there is a lack of this ability. Impaired mentalizing is common among individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and since they have symptoms similarities with individuals diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) it has been discussed whether impaired mentalizing might be a significant factor among this group of individuals as well. 6 semi-structured interviews were completed in this study and was analysed through an inductive thematic analysis. The purpose of this study was to examine experiences of mentalizing among a group of individuals diagnosed with ADHD. The questions of interest were the following: how do individuals with ADHD describe their experiences that is related to mentalizing, and what are their experiences of mentalization affecting their social interactions and relationships? 3 themes emerged: 1. My interpersonal relationships are both pleasant and strenuous, 2. Thoughts and feelings affect me intensely and also, 3. I develop and have gotten greater self-awareness from my constructive and destructive strategies. The results are discussed in relation to this group of interview participants having experienced or is experiencing impaired mentalizing. Future research is suggested to focus further on linkages between ADHD and impaired mentalization.

Full textImprisonment is often identified as an event that reduces future life chances. For example, having been incarcerated automatically reduces the probability of finding and keeping employment. However, prior research shows that imprisonment has a potential importance in the process of achieving desistance. Consequently, the aim of this study has been to examine the importance of imprisonment in preventing recidivism but also to examine the potential position of imprisonment as a turning point. The main focus of the current study has been on the theoretical discussion of turning points by Robert J. Sampson and John H. Laub. By using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews have been conducted with seven members of the non-profit association KRIS. The conclusion of the current study is that four out of seven interview respondents experience the imprisonment as a turning point. Remaining three interview respondents refer to incarceration as a potential turning point in their lives; however, only if the imprisonment would have worked out differently. Of those interview respondents referring to imprisonment as a turning point, three argue that incarceration entered their life course in “right time”. The influence of external factors on the potential importance of imprisonment as a turning point thereby seems to be significant. Unexpected and negative events such as disease or family related issues seem to be those external factors having the largest impact on this process. Even though not all of the interview respondents experienced imprisonment as a turning point, six out of seven refer to incarceration as having some kind of significance in their life course. Primarily, the imprisonment is being seen as a “resting place”, in which the interview respondents have been given the opportunity to place themselves at distance from criminality and addiction outside the prison walls.

Full textThe purpose of this study is to examine how music teacher students specialized in the different genres jazz, folk music and classical music view the function of the piano in singing lessons. Previous research refers to the use and influence of the piano regarding instrumental teaching. The study is qualitative and is based on the sociocultural perspective on learning. Semi structured interviews have been used as a method to investigate what individual perceptions the music teacher students have on the functions of the piano in singing lessons. To analyse the material, thematic analysis has been used as a method. The result shows that the piano is culturally associated, which is seen in the different use of the piano within different genres. The piano as an instrument associated with general expectations has also been observed. Furthermore, it appears that the music teacher students have ambivalent approaches to the function of the piano, which is depicted in descriptions of the possibilities and difficulties that can occur in different ways of using the piano. In the discussion, questions about the ability to adopt the teacher’s didactic choices is mentioned. Also, the role of the music teacher program based on tradition and rethinking is discussed. Additionally, the consequences of teaching singing students with or without the piano is discussed, based on the possibilities and difficulties of the use of the piano.
