12 Goju-ryu and 24 Kyokushinkai kata (forms) widely practised today were analysed for blocking and counter-offensive techniques. A statistically significant preference was found for blocking in Goju-ryu kata and a significant preference for counter-offensive techniques in Kyokushinkai kata. The kata from both styles were seen as fostering nonviolence in their practitioners, however.

The purpose of the study is to determine the amount of power hitting techniques of karatekas who are dedicated to preparing for the sporting match – kumite and breaking wooden boards – tameshiwari in Kyokushinkai karate style in various levels of sportsmen in the Czech Republic. Straight rear punch (gjaku cuki, or cross) on dominant side was measured. Testing was done by strain gauge Zemic L6E C3 after the intense physical training in macro-annual training cycle.
