Full textOur work is an attempt at exploring a series essays published by some natives from algeria during the french colonial period. As early as 1880 the "resistance-dialogue" is marked by some writings expressing a particular voice, between a colonial discourse reiterated, and claims for the indigeneous community. The first intellectuals were asking for more justice, some equality, schools and roads, and less taxation (income tax and collective sanctions) in favour of their fellow- countrymen. The issues studied here are : religion, the arabic language, women, schooling and free access to foreste-lands. Thus, these intellectuals mapped out the symbolic path of their resistance. 1930 is the milestone of a nation-oriented discourse and of more radical claims. The end of the colonial period is foreseen an clearly stated. The 1945 caesura triggers a revival of history an the emergence of abdelkader and jugurtha as the ancestral figures of resistance. Few essays have been written during the liberation war. Fanon and lacheraf's writings, like most other writings, althrough rooted in the colonial discourse are already looking towards the post-independance period. Their writings analyse the ongoing process and herald the first denunciations of the deviated revolution. Their discourse is no longer addressing the "other" but directed toward their own society. Already the figure of the post-independence intellectual is sketched, and his discourse is marked by awareness but remains iconoclastic. Beside the study of women writing is dealt with separately and goes beyond 1962 to show the continuum of a particular type of writing

Full textWe take it as essential that the command of the language is one of the first media to achieve problem solving in mathematics, the command of the language being in itself one of the best means of understanding and making oneself understook. We consider the teaching of the tools for comprehension as the main object of our research. We are convinced that teaching how to understand will enable students to improve their proficiency in problem solving and provide them with a better command of the french language. The first condition of success in such a method lies in a correct questioning pattern on the part of the teacher ; a questioning first about his academic knowledge, his know-how, his methods, his training. Some facts which have been collected in the professional field, together with their analysis by teachers committed to research and action have enabled the latter to create new training concepts and a new approach of the teaching of problem solving. The academic programme and the understanding methods based on the exploitation of the terms of standard problems, implemented by the research team, have allowed all the students in pilot classes to improve their results dramatically in mathematics problem solving. Over a period of several years, owing to various specifically devised tests, the results of a number of evaluations testify to their positive impact. Moreover they demonstrate a striking parallel between proficiency in french and proficiency in problem solving

Full textWe have not tried to elaborate a grammar of personal pronoums; the french language already possesses an excellent one. We hope simply tried to rethink, in own fashion, the system of pronoums in the french language. The heterogenous aspect of the category of pronoums does not allow us to view this question from only one point of view. We hope first tried to define the domain of the pronoum, and then to classify and express the norms wich rule the distribution of these pronoums. Additionally, we hope questened ourselves concerning the syntaxic role of the pronoum and the limits of a grammar consisting of categories

Full textThis work defines the main dimensions which are responsible for the emergence of the french language as a normative and political instrument in the nation. A social review of the french language between the 1880s corresponding with the institutionalisation of the french language as an object of political intervention in france - and the 1950s - corresponding with the first time the french governement launches a research program called "the basis french" - suggests that linguistic and social conceptions shape together the language field. This tight interelation explains the place occupied by the french language as a tool and as a scientific object as with any social action, collective work on language as a tool and as a scientific object becomes possible only through a complex system of definitions, interpretations and analyses which brigs about new paradigms and new frames of reference. The changes that shape the french language and let it become a strategical object in the social game and in the scientific network make sense only if they are replaced in the larger political background that finds in the national language a new form for telling the citizenship. The french language - and the actors that come to be recognized as having the ability, the power and the authority to work on language things - shapes the scientific field and the institutional field through which language can become an object of public policy

Full textIn the first part entitled "spaces of the maghreb", we saw how the french-speaking writers, form the maghreb succeed in writing and building up their relationship with their space of origin. In the second part of our work, devoted to the "spaces of writing", we came to the conclusion that there are some similarities or some differences in the space-writing techniques peculiar to each of the authors studied here. In the third part, "today's imaginary world of islam : from the original mythical exile to today's real exile", we first evoked mahomet's exile. Then, we tried to check wether the prophet's exile, which was the foundation of the kingdom of islam, was still promising for the north africans, "candidates for exile", or if, on the contrary, it went off along with tear and wound. In our fourth and last part, "exiles and the french-speaking literature from the maghreb", we attempted to study the link to the french language for writers from the maghreb. Then we dedicated ourselves to the study of the place of the french-speaking literature from the maghreb within the arab and french literatures. Finally, we looked into the concept of exile for north african writers
BOKA, MARCELLIN. "Aspects du realisme dans le roman africain de langue francaise." Paris 3, 1986. http://www.theses.fr/1986PA030094.
Full textIn this work our purpose was three folds : we have defined the concept of realism in the novel; we have examined the artistical expression of such a concept in the african novel from a historical point of view; we have investigated the specific ways african novelists resort to realism. What have been the results of this investigation? in the first part devoted to the genesis of the african novel, to its conditions of emergence and to its evolution, we noticed that the african novel of the colonial ere was at the beginning, a committed art. For the african novelist, commitment had turned into a pure orthodoxy. But "literary" orthodoxy, whatever it is, jeopardizes the work. So, when african countries atteined independance, the novelists urged to explore new matters so that they could endow novel with a new direction an original style. Then, in the second part, we studied the literary project of african novelists. As regards titles and prefaces we showed that most of them testify in favour of realistic principles; for what is art and escape beneath other skies, for black novelists turns into the need of transcribrig reality faithfully; art becoming technical and documentary evidence is not end in itself. Verisimilitude and verifiable have also been analysed: the belong to the esthetics of realism. In the third part, we dealt with spatio temporalrealism and with characters. In order to grasp the import of the messages we not only worked on the structures of the discursive level, we also focused our attention upon the situational context. We now reach the main issue: what specific use african novelists make of realism? first, we were interested in strictly african oral techniques; then we studied how african novelists resort to

Full textThis thesis is a study of the criticism of social encounters, telescopings, languages intercrossing, cultures, social achievements in the algerian novel written in french. The argumentation is based on specific authors such as feraoun, dib, kateb, boudjedra, tengour. It spans the whole period from the birth of the algerian novel (in the 1920's) to contemporary production. The punctual analysis operates on forms meanings and not on contents, thus putting specific emphasis on textual criticism : "naturalization" process of a genre, linguistic phenomenous, fictional representations, structural thematic of the double and the androgynus, treatment of the depiction of women, impregnation of world visions through a syncretic mystic and or trans-cultural existential conditions. . . All these aspects contribute to show a poetic of the hybrid as deliberate means of exchanges and synthesis between neighbouring cultural entities, antagonistic and or complementary. Such a criticism may be detected in wider cultural areas as mentioned in the conclusion

Full textThe work of abdelkebir khatibi deals with questions that the third world intellectuals have not stopped asking for about fifty years : progress and withdrawal of civilization, means and aims of decolonization, tradition and modernity, acculturation, relation to the so-called developed nations. . . Yet in a manner that makes it a courageous and enlightened expression of a franc-tireur who is beyond the beaten track, beyond what we are used to saying and doing in order to solve these questions. His weapon is absolute: he claims a right to uncomrpomising difference, towards both east and west. Strong with this iconoclastic play on identity, the literary experience may get rid of some brakes upon renewal and flourishing, in particular that which condemns the use of the french language on behalf of a right to an exclusive return to arabic, to the language of the koran. It may improve and develop normally within the uncompromising space of bi-language, the common space, with elusive outlines, between the letter (french) and the recall (arabian), between the west and the east, between the other and the same. . . Like the laghreb ("the sunset", "the west" in arabic) which draws its richness, its real identity (its difference) from its duality, from its pluralism, from its diversity. . . In short, from its inflexible refusal of too well known and recognized schemes of thought and analysis

Full textOur purpose was first to account for gender assignment to new words. On a corpus of 7000 french nouns, in connection with the different types of word formation (derivatives, compounds, loan words, etc. ). In some cases, the choice of gender may be attributable to a single factor, but it is generally the result of competing influences (endocentric, exocentric, morphophonological, semantic, etc. ). Historically, the proportion of masculines among new words has been growing from old french to the present day. The principal reasons are the increasing role of masculine as "unmarked" gender, the decline of some patterns of word formation, the changes in the origin of loan words, etc. The part played by grammatical gender to structure the french vocabulary tends to decrease on the morphophonological field (the connections between gender and word endings are weakening), and becomes semantically more important (development and analogical series). The balance between masculine and feminine has been upset in favour of the masculine not only from a quantitative point of view, but also from a quantitative one : the masculine vocabulary is more varied, more valued than the feminine one

Full textThe time in frenc is described as toking into account the figurations of the beings, whose representation cambe thus obtained. This approach which relies upon thesis of g. Guillaume implies the reconsideration of the latter. This reconsideration is based on the idea that the time systeme always constructs itself in relation to a subject. This induces one to consider that describing the time systeme consists in describing the kind of space. Time between the representations of the talking being whoare concerned for coach tense form. After the analysis of the various figurations of the being that the language can produce, one notice that the relationships whichare put into evidence appear to be of the same kind as the ones which contribute to the psychie structuration of the subject and refer to primeval impulsive behaviours. The analogy between linguistic processes and psychologycal processes in thus established. This analogy enobles us topo into more details about the psychological values of the tense

Full textThis study attempts to render its honeur to an indefinite litrary genre whic, not well known, does not have the faveur of french readers : short stories. A specific litrary genre, short stories turn out to be more peculiar still when african and malagasy authors choose, alongside otheir litrary types as novels and plays, to devot themselves to thes. In their writings, with texts varying not only in length but also in period (generally the post-colonial period) anhd in place, short stories take on the different colours and charms of these far-off lands. But through imaginary characters they give opportunities to discover others cultures, others views of the world. Each of these writings contributes to the development of the litrary type that are short stories, and to the opening to that world

Full textThe goal of this thesis is to follow the evolution of the didactics of french in the netherlands throughout the centuries and to make a critical analysis of the latest tendenciers in the teaching of business language. In the first chapter, the evolution of the teaching learning of the french language is analyzed in its historical context from its origins to 1968. In the second chapter, the reasons why the teaching of french has experienced a decline in secondary and university education in the last quarter of a century are elucidated. The way in which the latest reform, "basisvorming", modifies learning methods is also explained. In the third chapter, a current tendency in the teaching of french, the teaching of business french, is studied, given the importance that the netherlands has always attached to their international exchanges as far as business is concerned

The character, strougle autobiographical, entails an unconcious projection both individual and collective which allows the probing into the cultural mind. The portrayal of the close relationship between mother and child betrays the underlying aim of the novel writing : the quest of the origin. That of the ambiguous relationship between father and child discloses an immanent theory of the literary medium. A special form of childhood symbolism arouses from the original interaction between the traditional arabic heritage and contemporary western influence

Full textThe socio-linguistic conditions of black africa are summarized together with the ideological positions connected with linguistic problems. This background is used with a view to defining the concrete problems posed in the use of french in the african novel. The corpus is composed of five works : une vie de boy by ferdinand oyono, les bouts de bois de dieu by sembene ousmane, les soleils des independances by ahmadou kourouma, le pleurer-rire by henri lopes and les sept solitudes de lorsa lopez by sony labou tansi. The aim of the study is to take account of the way the french language is treated in each novel. Analyses based on a structural linguistic approach demonstrate various ways in which african languages are present in the french text, underlining stylistic effects and particular narratological choices. Thematic studies also help to bring into relief the various representations of the languages in the diegesis. Finally, the argument is widened to include the psychological and institutionnal implications of writing in french, as the quest for identity and linguistic choices are often linked in modern literature

Full textThis study, after analysing the evolution of french language law until early twenty century and distinguishing freedom of expression and right to a determined language during modern period, is concerned present linguistic norms. It establishes that norms are many and concern varied domains : economic activities, audio-visual. University education and public search, international organizations, etc. However, it remains limited by imprecision and gaps of many provisions, besides juridical emptinesses in several sensible domains (for instance the signs, the international private organizations and internal relations inside enterprises). The incidence of international law is not negligible : community law sues several of these norms considered as a impediment at the free circulation of goods, services or workers; classical international law, from juridical linguistic norms that it induces, reinforces limits for the use of french. The application of the recital is in contrast : it is brought into operation for instance in public and judiciary deeds domain, it is sometimes in audio-visual, while this application is rare or non-existent in other sectors (for instance in economic activities or scientific domain)

From a corpus of some 4. 500 borrowings i have made two classifications. - the first, linguistic in nature, separates findings into simple complex lexical items and in graphically assimilated non graphically assimilated items. The objective being to observe influences modifications on the semantics, syntax and orthography of contemporary french. - the second, socio-linguistic in nature, clearly indicates where the major influences lie: in the technical fields, arts (music, film etc. ), sports, transportation. Anglicisms americanisms have a practical application in the teaching of french as a foreign language, especially in the context of english-speakers. The idea is to develop a lesson from english words which make up part of everyday spoken french to help encouage students to acquire language

It’s set in Chad, a black African space connecting two globalized linguistics communities : the French-speaking world and the Arabic-speaking world. This work aims to investigate dynamics of FLLC as a didactic intervention authority and a sharing place of powers and interests between Chad and France. Chad choppy linguistic and educational context analysis allows understanding the emergence issues of this training system and appraising the influence of the various policies on its evolution. Practical details of dividing out roles between the two states and functionality of didactic triangle are dissected and assessed. Cadence and conditions of FLLC network genuine independence are argued more particularly about the training of teachers. Finally the analysis of the Arabic-speaking learner integration in Chad French-speaking economic and administrative network allows estimating FLLC impact and its social utility for this nation in construction. Data and analysis produced claim to be instructive, pragmatic and useful for the coming development of this original organisation institution

It is outlined according three major plies of research. The first section seeks an internal epistemological approach wich allows to show that the representationalist philosophy of language determins the principal orientations of lexicographical works. The second section advanced a theoretical rewiew of the question and establishes the guidelines towards lexical pragmatics. The third section sets out a methodological survey of lexicographical data. Full textIn xviiith century, the vocabulary of iron - much of it very old indeed - met the discoveries and innovations which gave birth to modern iron-and-steel industry. A historical survey of how writings about iron - both scientific and technical - were produced and read provides a backcloth for an in-depth analysis of the various names and treatments of iron, as well as the methods of production of pig iron, soft iron and steel. Such a perspective makes it possible to perceive each term in the wide variety of situations it was used in. It then becomes clear that the links between words, things, situations and history are so numerous and so strong that the emergence of such a vocabulary cannot be confined within the limits of language alone, even considered in its various uses. Consequently, a vocabulary cannot be called scientific and technical because of its linguistic formation and form, nor because of its links with scientific or technical objects. Like objects themselves, a vocabulary becomes scientific and technical through a variation of the everyday use of human speech. This pragmatic conception is clearly expounded by c. S. Peirce and l. Wittgenstein

Full textTo create au authentic novel reconciling both french and african culture, in a double-culture context corrupt by preconceived ideas that force seclusion into antagonism, to keep one's own identity. This is the double side issue of the literary work. Although the "colonial based novels", the "novels seeking compromise between western and african values" and the "novels based entirely on african culture", prove to be promising, they create a feeling of impotence, of self dispossession, of sheer exotism and lack of perspective. Their essence jeers at the ever blossoming aesthetico-ideological edifice of the cultural renaissance originally cracked. The novel is shared between the denial of its euroepan father and the requierements of its reconnaissance. The search for alienation in the works is often a vain entreprise. Yet, this does not diminish the significance of this social phenomenon in literature. The habit has simply led the negro-african into composing a good and very illusory circumstancial cultural face. To redifine itself, to reformulate the cultural renaissance issue, to stand against the attraction of europe, to live for oneself, this is the way out. Way out or illusion of way out ? in a world where the cultural force equates the economical and technological force, the negro-african who lives sparely is not ready to face europe. For the time being, he "dreams" as he can and these dreams seem to be at the size of the provisional life of french speaking black africa

Examining the opinions and the behavior of various types of young people in relation to the situations and problems dealt with in novels shows that the young, and especially the progressists, represent the conscience and the hopes of the people on whose behalf and for whom they speak and act. Through their words, their actions and the predominant viewpoint they are constantly made to voice, they definitely appear as the announcers or the vectors of the novelist's ideological vision

Full textThe purpose of this dissertation is to answer several key questions concerning the history of anglo-american hymns present in french protestant hymnals : how many hymns? what kind(s) of hymns? which hymnals? translated by whom, when and why? it is manifest that anglo-american hymns are present, in highly varying quantities, in bascially every french hymnal published since the beginning of the 1th century. Our research, in 50 french hymnals (from 173 to the present) and 12 polyglot hymnals, has revealed more than 964 anglo-american hymn texts (of which 1333 translations, including multiple translations of a same text), 1100 english hymn tunes and over 30 kinds of hymns (english psalm tune, scottish psalm tune, negro spiritual, victorian hymn tune, gospel song, etc. ). Concerning the translators, we have identified 217, starting with jean de queteville (c. 1765-1843), a pioneer of the methodist work in the channel islands. The name of many translators is familiar in french speaking countries : p-a. Bost (1790-1874), merle d'aubigne (1794-1872), georges boutelleau (1846-1916), alexandre vinet (1797-1847), eugene bersier (1831-1889), catherine booth-clibborn (1858-1955). The most important translators are (by decreassing order of number of translations) : ruben saillens (1855-1942), hector arnera (1890-1972), alfred kuen (born 1921), josette lefillatre (born 1922), jean de queteville, gustave isley (1879-1954), et jean-daniel sahagian (1933-1989). The reasons for such a plethora of translations are diverse : revival and evangelistic meetings

Full textThe originality of rouseau's writing consists in a break with the traditional conceptions of the unity of language, which is rightly perceived, but not positively conceived. His writing develops out this impossibility and appears as the attempt to solve the conflict of language of traditional discourses and the enlightment ones as well (attitudes of modern grammarian and moralist). Rousseau's purpose is to re-establish unity against real difference and diversity of languages, on which his linguistic experience is based. Besides, as it searches the caution of science, his writing develops a pseudo-conception of nature, which makes coherent reasoning analysis of historical and social facts. "man", who is the purpose of this pseudo-conception, is considered as essentially non-contradictory, the author builds his unity by representing a social space he wants to control and maintain. To refuse the idea of breaking finally becomes perceptible in perfectionnist attitude: perpetual return to the contradictions of writing and repeated attempts to contain and evacuate them in making the descriptions, reasonings and demonstrations more precise. Rousseau, reduced to self-censorship (when the idea of "conspiration" occurs) reaches the limites ofhis writing. He sets the (modern) problematic of language in the antinomia of lies and truth, and consequently, he gives a litterary answer thanks to a system of (circular) formulas which structures his writing. Then, he finds out the meaning again

Full textHe aim of this preparation is to show the renewal of the written narration in french-speakink black africa through four subsaharian novels published between 1979 and 1983. Our reflection focuses on Le jeune homme de sable (1979) and Les crapauds-brousse (1979) by the guinean writers Williams Sassine and Tierno Monenembo ; Le pleurer-rire (1982) and L'ante-peuple (1983) by the congolese writers Henri Lopes and Sony Labou Tansi. In the first part of our work, we try to define the thematic renewal in connection with the sociopolitical situation in Africa. In the novelistic texts, a questioning a bout the contempory history of Africa, as it is lived by the people, stands out. The discourse of these novels has mainly a sermon value : denunciation and refuse of the iniquitous and chaotic order instituted through violence by the "guides" and "pères de la nation". In the second part, we analyse the narrative techniques of the novels mentionned above and their relationship with this violence, from the point of view of theories of modern criticism, this analysis underlines the complexity of these techniques. The main featuress of these works appear to be a distinct spatial and temporal vagueness, a multiplicity of voices which grant these stories an unquestionable polyphony and finally a singular violence in the language. We can notice, as well, the emergence of new characters, of women faces who get more and more implicated in the struggle against dictatorship

Full textDei verbum is an achievement that stand out in the history of the church's teaching. It is indeed the first the first official document to propose a systematic approach to the divine revelation, that first christian reality, and to other basic themes of fundamental theology like tradition, faith, inspiration, meaning, truth and the integral interpretation of biblical texts. More than thirty years after it was promulgated by the second vatican council (1962-1965), it is quite important to examine the reception of its docrine. This doctoral dissertation looks to shed light upon the relationship between the conciliar theaching on revelation and the theological thought in the french-speaking area. We first call back the conciliar debates which led the the final text in order to see the role of bishops and theologians coming from the french-speaking countries in the renewal of the catholic doctrine on revelation. Also, the quantity and the enhanced value of their french translation of dei verbum show that they were very concerned by the new constitution. Second, by scannig the french literature on dei verbum published in the post counciliar period it appears that the vaticane constitution is quite sufficiently analysed. This solid history of interpretation is a significant sign of the great interest in the document. The last part of this dissertation examines in depth the most important aspects of the document's teaching on revelation emphasized in the commentaries. In spite of some minor criticisms, commentators have found much to praise in dei verbum and single out its various merits and achievements. This positive evaluation of the doctrine of the constitution shows what we call the first reception of the conciliar teaching

Full textThis thesis describes the importance for little deaf children to learn, so early as possible, sign language as a first language in their family and educative context, so, oral and written vocal french will be their second language. Even if having access to this vocal language is difficult, it seems important and possible to offer it to the child, using all sensorial ways, but without reeducational relentiessness. In this bilingual education, to make this language learning more natural, it is possible for adults having a good knowledge of sign language to use an adaptable form of signed french. Conversations between speech-therapists, working in that way, and deaf children are recorded and written according to a method especially elaborated for this research. Corpus analysis shows up orignal communicative strategies used by adults and children and confirms that each deaf child has its own linguistic course. This proves that these bilingual exchanges alow to offer the deaf child interactive situations as well as for the hearing child : they make mutual inderstanding easier and allow the deaf child to appropriate lexical constituents and syntactical forms of adult's language, for its own cognitive and linguistic working
