Abstract:
Let N be a prime and let A be a quotient of J0(N) over Q associated to a newform such that the special L-value of A (at s = 1) is non-zero. Suppose that the algebraic part of the special L-value of A is divisible by an odd prime q such that q does not divide the numerator of [Formula: see text]. Then the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture predicts that the q-adic valuations of the algebraic part of the special L-value of A and of the order of the Shafarevich–Tate group are both positive even numbers. Under a certain mod q non-vanishing hypothesis on special L-values of twists of A, we show t

Abstract:
The zeta Mahler measure is the generating function of higher Mahler measures. In this article, explicit formulas of higher Mahler measures, and relations between higher Mahler measures and multiple zeta (star) values are showed by observing connections between zeta Mahler measures and the generating functions of multiple zeta (star) values. Additionally, connections between higher Mahler measures and Dirichlet L-values associated with primitive quadratic characters are discussed.

Abstract:
This thesis consists of four chapters and deals with two different problems which are both related to the broad topic of special values of anticyclotomic L-functions. In Chapter 3, we generalize some results of Vatsal on studying the special values of Rankin-Selberg L-functions in an anticyclotomic ℤ_p-extension. Let g be a cuspidal Hilbert modular form of parallel weight (2,...,2) and level N over a totally real field F, and let K/F be a totally imaginary quadratic extension of relative discriminant D. We study the l-adic valuation of the special values L(g,χ,½) as χ varies over the ring cl

We study the L-values of an elliptic curve twisted by an Artin representation. Specifically, we consider the case in which the representation factors through a false Tate curve extension of Q. First, we consider a semistable elliptic curve E; we construct an integral-valued p-adic measure which interpolates the values the L-values of an Artin twist of E, at a family of finite-order character twists. To do this, we exploit the fact that such an L-value may be written as the Rankin convolution of two Hilbert modular forms, when the representation factors through the false Tate curve extension. R

Abstract Tin-antimony (Sn-Sb) solder is used as a substitute for tin-lead solder, which has been banned from plumbing applications. In the few published studies of Sn-Sb solder corrosion, very little Sb release was found. The highest measured Sb concentration, 7.3 μg/L, was for an exposure period of 90 days. For exposures of 24 hours or less, the maximum Sb concentration was 3.7 μg/L, which is less than the USEPA maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 6 μg/L. A passivating layer of tin oxide was hypothesized to explain the low Sb concentrations. The published studies all used pH values of 8.4 or l

Abstract:
Methods: This was an open-label, cross-over study of 24 HIV-infected children with HIV RNA < 50 copies/ml comparing PK parameter of standard dose LPV/r and low dose of LPV/r for 4 weeks. LPV dosage was prescribed by body weight band; 25~35 kg: LPV/r 300/75 vs. 200/50 mg, > 35 kg 400/100 vs. 300/75 mg. Glood samples were drawn at 0 (pre-dose), 2,4,6,8, 10 and 12 hours. Plasma concentrations of LPV and RTV were measured by HPLC method. The acceptable C12h is > 1 mg/L. The HIV RNA was measured at week 12 after switch back to standard dose for 4 weeks. Results: Twenty four children were i

Abstract:
In 2005 the National Park Service (NPS) Southeast Coast Network (SECN) Inventory and Monitoring Program began collecting water-quality data in the estuarine waters near Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CAHA) as part the NPS Vital Signs monitoring program. The continuous-monitoring data station is located at a dock at the Ocracoke Village boat ramp. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore fixed-station water-quality monitoring site is part of the SECN estuarine water-quality monitoring program, which collects data in the vicinity of nine coastal parks located along the southeastern U.S. coast. Abstract:
Explosibility measurements on coal dusts from the Cape Breton Development Corporation's Lingan Mine, TransAlta's Highvale Mine and the Quintette Mine in B.C. have been carried out along with some tests on Pittsburgh Standard coal dust. The Quintette coal dust would not explode in the classical Hartmann apparatus, but did explode in the new 20-L vessel using a more powerful ignition source. The minimum explosible concentrations of the Lingan, Highvale and Pittsburgh coal dusts were all about the same (40 - 45 mg/L), that of the Quintette was higher (140 mg/L). The difference may be attributed t
