Abstract:

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: An airframe parachute (“Chute”) available in certain aircraft is designed to lower the airplane safely to the ground for emergency situations that occur 500 ft (152 m) above ground level (AGL): the “Chute altitude envelope.” This study will explore the change in Chute use before and after 2012 to better understand factors that increased usage and improved accident outcomes.METHODS: Using the public National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) accident database from January 1, 2001, through August 31, 2018, a regression model was developed to identify factors that may predict Chute use.RESULTS: In accidents occurring after January 1, 2013, pilots were 5 times more likely to use the Chute, while 2.9 times less likely to use the Chute when the accident involved pilot-related causes. The presence of passengers did not predict Chute use. Injuries were likely to be more severe when the Chute was used outside the Chute altitude envelope.DISCUSSION: In contrast to General Aviation (GA) overall, accidents outcomes in aircraft equipped with a Chute have seen great improvements between 2013 and 2018, with increased use of the Chute and improved injury outcomes. Results suggest that changes to pilot training in 2012 have increased the social acceptance of Chute use. Results highlight increased risk of injury outcomes for Chute use in accidents that occur outside the Chute altitude envelope.Kirby J. Abstract:
The mathematical model of burden movement for bell-less top of BF is described in detail, and the model of burden movement on rotating chute is improved combined with collision of burden to chute and effect of coriolis force. The influence degree of charging parameters on coke main striking position and stock flow width is investigated though establishing burden model. The research shows that: The changing of coke main striking point position is obvious under increasing decline angle of chute and length of chute, and for the stock flow width, the effects of decline angle of chute and depth of stock line are most important.

Abstract:
Spillways are the most important structures of large dams that are responsible for releasing the excessive flood discharge from the reservoir. Although many studies have been performed to determine the flow characteristics over these structures, however, the available information on the shockwaves’ characteristics for spillways’ design is limited. The supercritical flow below the chute piers generates an aerated flow known as shockwaves. Due to the flow interaction with the chute piers, three kinds of standing waves just downstream of the pier, in the middle of the chute, and on the sidewalls are generated. This phenomenon affects the flow domain and its hydraulic characteristics along the chute spillway. The height of the waves increases downstream, where they hit the chute walls and reflect again into the flow to interact together again. The process repeated and intensified downstream in a lozenge shape. The height of these waves can be more than twice the depth flow and thus run over the sidewalls. This is important for the design of chute walls in chute spillways with control gates. In this study, the experimental formation of the shockwaves and their behavior along the chute and their reduction measures are presented. Experiments were conducted on a scaled physical model (1/50) of Kheirabad Dam, Water Research Institute, Iran. It was realized that apart from the geometry of piers and chute spillway, Froude number of flow and gate opening are the main effective parameters on the hydraulic performance of shockwaves’ formation and their development on gated spillways.

Abstract:
This paper presents a novel design of an inclined feeder with a chute that vibrates like a simple pendulum. It is designed with a horizontal vibration and an inclined chute for feeding steel scraps in electric furnace steelmaking. The simplified model of the feeder and the governing equations of kinematics analysis are introduced. Numerical integration programs were developed to investigate the kinematics characteristics of the feeder. The inclination angle of the chute and the vibration frequency, two vital impact factors affecting the motion of the fed block, were analyzed. Compared with the traditional horizontal chute feeder, this novel feeder has proved to be more efficient and speed-controllable. An experimental prototype was fabricated and feeding tests were performed. Results indicate that good agreement between calculation and experiment was achieved on the motion of the fed block. A stepped chute was proposed to solve the problem of block intertwining and uneven dropping during the feeding. The simulation of the multi-block feeding showed that the feeding with the stepped chute was steadier than that with the smooth chute. This research indicates that the mathematical model is able to predict the motions of the system and the new feeder will be capable and effective in performing the steel scrap feeding task.

Abstract:
Requirements for high-voltage vacuum circuit breakers for networks with a grounded neutral, which are stemming from the prospects of using vacuum circuit breakers in networks with the solidly grounded neutral are formulated. The arch chute design for a 110 kV single-break vacuum circuit breaker that takes into account the occurrence of repeated breakdowns is developed. The shielding system equalizes the voltage over the chute casing, decreases the electric field intensity at the “triple point”, protects the casing dielectric from becoming dusted with metallic contact parts erosion products, prevents the occurrence of cascade breakdown between the contact parts and central shield, and eliminates a possible decrease of the chute electric strength as it gradually works out its switching life. It is shown that the chute design includes measures to prevent the possibility of repeated breakdowns during disconnection up to class С1 according to GOST 52565-2006. It has been proven that for vacuum arc chutes for class С2 (for switching a capacitive load) it is necessary to develop a chute with two breaks between the contact parts or to connect two vacuum chutes in series. The shielding system adopted in the chute rules out the possibility of ceramic casing to become metallized, which decreases the chute electric strength as it gradually works out its switching life, and the vacuum arc transfer to beyond the inter-contact gap boundaries onto the central shield, the burnout of which results in that the vacuum arc chute loses its tightness and fully loses its functional properties.

Abstract:
The scraper conveyor is the key conveying equipment for fully mechanized coal mining. Wear failure of the chute is the main form of failure of the scraper conveyor. In this study, the discrete element method (DEM) was combined with the wear model. The wear mechanism and wear regularity of the chute were explored by tracking the changes in the position of coal particles during the wear process. After the validation of wear simulation, a wear test of coal for different intrinsic parameters was designed. In one wear cycle, the three-body wear was about 32.84 times that of the two-body wear. In the research range, the wear of the scraper conveyor chute increased with the increase of Poisson’s ratio, shear modulus, and density of the coal. The shear modulus showed remarkable effect on the wear of the chute, followed by Poisson’s ratio and density. There existed a linear relationship between the shear modulus and wear (R2 = 0.8232). This study is expected to be used to predict the wear of the scraper conveyor chute and provide a theoretical basis for the applicability of the chute in different mines.

Abstract:
The flow characteristics of an aerator inserted on the chute with a concave surface is more complex than that of on the straight chute. The area of the air intake of the aerator is a very important factor which influences the cavity size of jet flow after the aerator, the air pressure in the cavity and air concentrations in high-speed flows along the chute. The present project focused on the air intake of an aerator inserted on a model chute with a concave surface. How the area of the air intake of the aerator and the radius of chute arc affect flow characteristics are investigated. The air pressure in the cavity was indirectly derived from the jet trajectory equation. It is demonstrated that the cavity length increases with, and the air pressure in it decreases with the increasing of the air intake area at first, and then it remains unchangeable for a discharge even though the air intake area continues to increase.
