Abstract:
Abstract Magnetorheological properties significantly depend on the regime of aggregate structures. In the case of cubic particles, closely-packed clusters that are significantly different from those for the case of spherical or rod-like particles are formed in the system since magnetic cube-like particles prefer a face-to-face contact with the neighboring particles. Therefore, a cubic particle suspension is expected to exhibit a sufficiently strong magnetorheological effect, which may be investigated by means of Brownian dynamics simulations. However, the translational and rotational diffusion

Abstract:
For many years the artistic movement in the Dominican Republic was a -best-kept secret. Their growing international contributions to contemporary visual arts have been changing that picture, but may also be characterized by even greater drive, selectivity, and regularity. We could say that of all the islands of the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic is, along with Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Haiti, the country most prolific in regard to modern and contemporary artists.

Abstract:
Despite significant attention and interest in shock-responsive social protection, a knowledge gap exists when it comes to our understanding of how to sustain capacity to deliver existing social programmes and systems in situations of climate and/or conflict crisis. BASIC Research is using a new tool that we have developed – the Capacity Cube – to explore this question and identify ways in which external actors might support the resilience of those systems and programmes. An explanation of the Capacity Cube framework is provided in an accompanying briefing (Slater 2024). The current briefing fo

Abstract:
Over a period of time, a tier of mostly middle-income developing countries has developed a considerable pharmaceutical and vaccine production capacity. However, outcomes have not always been positive for domestic manufacturers in developing countries. Economic and health lessons learned from vaccine manufacturing in developing countries include challenges and positive spill-over effects. Evidence for this rapid review is taken from the south and southeast Asia (India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam), and Latin America (Brazil, Cuba, Mexico). Abstract:
This paper analyzes total factor productivity growth in agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean between 1961 and 2007 employing the Malmquist Index, a non-parametric methodology that uses data envelopment analysis (DEA) methods. The results show that among developing regions, Latin America and the Caribbean shows the highest agricultural productivity growth. The highest growth within the region has occurred in the last two decades, especially due to improvements in efficiency and the introduction of new technologies. Within the region, land-abundant countries consistently outperform lan

Abstract:
Tomato yellow leaf curl geminivirus (TYLCV) is a major pathogen of cultivated tomato, causing up to 100% crop loss in many parts of the world. In Israel, where TYLCV epidemics have been recorded since the 1960' s, this viral disease is well known and has been of economic significance ever since. In recent years, TYLCV outbreaks also occurred in the "New World" - Cuba, The Dominican Republic, and in the USA, in Florida, Georgia and Louisiana. Thus, TYLCV substantially hinders tomato growth throughout the world. Surprisingly, however, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of TYLCV inter

Background Early detection and identification of faulty greenhouse operation is essential, if losses are to be minimized by taking immediate corrective actions. Automatic detection and identification would also free the greenhouse manager to tend to his other business. Original objectives The general objective was to develop a method, or methods, for the detection, identification and accommodation of faults in the greenhouse. More specific objectives were as follows: 1. Develop accurate systems models, which will enable the detection of small deviations from normal behavior (of sensors, contro

This research report describes a methodology whereby multi-spectral and hyperspectral imagery from remote sensing, is used for deriving predicted field maps of selected plant growth attributes which are required for precision cropping. A major task in precision cropping is to establish areas of the field that differ from the rest of the field and share a common characteristic. Yield distribution f maps can be prepared by yield monitors, which are available for some harvester types. Other field attributes of interest in precision cropping, e.g. soil properties, leaf Nitrate, biomass etc. are ob
