Abstract:
This essay contemplates Chris Marker’s film La Jetée (1962) via Svetlana Boym’s conceptualization of “restorative” versus “reflective” nostalgia. It looks in part at the film’s presentation of the protagonist’s restorative nostalgia, but unlike previous examinations of nostalgia’s role in La Jetée, this essay foregrounds the viewer’s own experience of a reflective nostalgia for the film. The author considers her personal and subjective, and historically specific, encounters with La Jetée in relation to how the film may produce a similar nostalgia in others through its storytelling and unusual combination of photographic and cinematic form. Drawing also on Réda Bensmaïa’s semiotic and psychoanalytic analysis of the film’s “pictogrammatic” quality, the essay further considers the possible roles of trauma and masochism in the film and for its viewers, and relates the experience of watching La Jetée to that of watching An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge (also 1962). The essay therefore situates both films in the context of historically situated yet ever-changing lived experience.

Abstract:
While the 1962 French science fiction film La Jetée presents a straightforward narrative premise, it nonetheless details the story of a man who “becomes a human projectile to be pro-jeté through time,” as Paul Sandro claims. Incriminating the audience in a theatre of cruelty, the film moves through the past and future via the mental time-travel of the protagonist in a series of stills, which appear independent from the consciousness of the agent. In the course of events, the protagonist builds a cognitive map out of this chaotic sequence of memories that allows him to then create new spaces of thought. The first mention of the “theatre of cruelty” by Antonin Artaud in 1935, considered pain and terror to be the most important elements of any kind of play or film. The protagonist's situation of constantly chasing his own ghost and restoring his memory corresponds to these conditions and thus opens up new venues of considering cruelty, and in extension trauma, as an important third element in Chris Marker's film. His film La Jetée created a filmic embodiment of this interplay in both the redemptive yet productive powers of memory and the cyclical notion of time as it manifests itself in the mind of the protagonist and viewer.

O presente texto reflete sobre a fotografia como destempo, que tomo emprestado – palavra e sentido – do escritor João Guimarães Rosa. Rosa usa destempo no romance “Grande Sertão Veredas” e no conto “Sota e Barla”, do livro “Tutaméia”. Destempo é aqui pensado como ponto ou instante, mas com duração, mesmo que mínima, suficiente para dividir esse ponto/instante/destempo em arquivo e rastros fantasmais. En comparant les deux productions, on peut observer que d’importants changements se sont opérés dans l’imaginaire contemporain : plutôt qu’une catastrophe nucléaire, c’est l’anéantissement provoqué par un fou solitaire qui menace le monde ; la participation des personnages féminins est devenue plus active ; la trame des événements dévoile une complexité croissante. Cependant, les voyageurs intertemporels des deux films expérimentent toujours un profond malaise devant une temporalité qui ne respecte pas les lois de la causalité.

A partir das reflexões de Friedrich Nietzsche em O eterno retorno e Jorge Luís Borges em Nova refutação do tempo, propõe-se tecer uma leitura crítica do filme La Jetée, de Chris Marker, a fim de examinar como a sua dimensão temporal dialoga com o ideário dos dois autores citados. Mais do que posicionar a obra como devedora de certa linhagem teórica – embora isso seja inevitável –, objetiva-se encontrar os pontos de convergência e choque com as propostas nietzschianas e borgianas. Para tal, optou-se por segmentar o texto em três momentos: I) breve apresentação do conceito de eternoretorno, sua formulação e dimensão doutrinária, II) exposição do tema para Borges, a crítica aos mandamentos nietzschianos e abandono da concepção do tempo como instância dotada de sentido, III) reflexão sobre a estrutura temporal de LaJetée, a partir dos conceitos discutidos.

In his 1956 film, Tout la mémoire du monde (All the memory of the world), French director Alain Resnais turned the black and white documentary footage of an automated retrieval system at the Bibliothèque Nationale into an ominously noire work. The film depicts an enormous open space criss-crossed with a matrix of metal rails. A robotic unit moves through it with eerie precision, its mechanism stopping to pull a book in crude imitation of a human motion. The tone has more in common with that of Jean-Luc Godard's Alphaville (1965) and Chris Marker's La Jetée (1962) than with any cheerful ‘Let's go to the library’ educational pitch. After all, this is a library into which no one can go. A fully machinic world, its combination of nineteenth-century technology and twentieth-century managerial aspirations eliminates human presence as part of its pre-steam-punk dystopianism.

In this article, the author analyzes Chris Marker’s photography, in particular the project Staring Back (an exhibition and a book, published in 2007), which offers a synthesis in fixed images of the film career of this author who has always explored the blurred boundaries between the still and the moving image (for example in his 1962 cult movie La jetée, or in later photo-films such as Si j’avais quatre dromadaires, 1966, and Le souvenir d’un avenir, with Yannick Bellon, 2001). The author relies on Marker’s notion of the “superluminal” (which refers to a special way of selecting still images out of the flow of moving images) as well as on contemporary and historical discussions on intermediality (inside and outside the domain of film studies alone) and cinephilia (as a specific way of combining writing and filming), to propose a close reading of Staring Back. In this reading, the author places strong emphasis on the political issues around looking and the relationship between artist and model.

Confusion over the meaning of the term is also noted by Baudelaire: ‘… réalisme, – injure dégoûtante jetée à la face de tous les analystes, mot vague et élastique’, he writes in his 1857 essay on Madame Bovary. Later, in notes for his unfinished essay, ‘Puisque Réalisme il y a’, Baudelaire appears to question whether the word has any meaning at all. In the drive to renew art, Realism appears to have fallen off course, stripping landscape painting of the principles of unity and cohesiveness that underlie what might be called a kind of pre-ecological vision of nature. Ante aquellas experiencias empobrecidas por la aniquilación del pasado en la guerra, por la desesperanza e imposibilidad de imaginar el porvenir o la desazón por la desconexión del mundo, el cine puede volcar la mirada a la virtualidad. Puede dar a ver ahí, donde ya solo pueden verse destellos; puede hacernos recordar incluso aquello que nunca hemos vivido. A partir del análisis de tres (3) películas célebres por las relaciones que establecen entre imagen, mirada y recuerdo, pero también por las experiencias que narran; La jetée (1962) del director Chris Marker, Hiroshima, mon amor (1959) de Alain Resnais, y Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain (2001) dirigida por el director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Así, el autor produce una caracterización de algunos fenómenos que se dan al nivel de la superficie de la imagen.

Il semble que la prise de parole poétique en Acadie et en Ontario français au cours de la longue décennie 1970 (1968-1985) ait marqué l’imaginaire acadien et franco-ontarien au point de s’instituer, dans le discours, en mythe fondateur. Cette prise de parole poétique a effectivement permis de tracer les contours d’une nouvelle manière de dire les identités acadienne et franco-ontarienne en les inscrivant dans un mouvement qui dépassait les limites d’un ici folklorique pour entrer dans une modernité plus largement planétaire. Les caractéristiques de cette parole ont été célébrées au point d’établir une grille de lecture identificatoire qui occulte une part de la production littéraire. Il en va ainsi de l’écriture des femmes, plus intimiste, et des générations d’écrivains et d’écrivaines qui arrivent à l’écriture au tournant du 21e siècle. Le présent article s’interroge sur le traitement de cette part occultée par l’étude du discours critique en Acadie et en Ontario français et, plus particulièrement, sur l’ombre jetée par l’oeuvre des poètes de la longue décennie 1970.

Supervisée conjointement par Richard King et Hans Zimmer, la partition sonore et musicale de Dunkerque sous-tend l’élaboration d’un récit complexe, articulé autour de trois unités spatiotemporelles distinctes : une semaine sur la jetée, une journée en mer, une heure dans les airs. Les événements qui se déroulent au sein de chaque espace narratif obéissent à leur propre chronologie ; cependant, au fil de la narration, des croisements s’opèrent entre les personnages et des correspondances de situations s’établissent. L’action se décline au présent – un présent ubiquitaire, sans cesse renouvelé –, dans une temporalité dilatée par la charge émotionnelle et sensorielle véhiculée par la bande-son. Nous montrerons que la conception sonore et musicale de Dunkerque répond à une volonté manifeste de conjuguer réalisme historique et spectacle immersif, dans une approche résolument novatrice et expérimentale. Outre le fait que la puissance sonore semble croître indéfiniment au gré des péripéties rencontrées par le jeune soldat anglais, la force et l’originalité de cette composition hybride résident dans la complémentarité et l’imbrication d’éléments constitutifs a priori disparates, tels que le chromatisme, la pulsation donnée par le tic-tac d’une montre, le sinistre gémissement des bateaux engloutis par la mer, ou encore les premières mesures de la variation « Nimrod » d’Edward Elgar.

L’article étudie les images des femmes espagnoles durant la guerre d’Espagne (1936-1939) dans six périodiques de la gauche de l’échiquier politique français émanant d’organisations de secours, de droits de l’homme et de comités. Les reportages, témoignages, éditoriaux et articles de commentaire font apparaître des thématiques topiques similaires et une vision contrastée jetée sur les femmes à cette période. La confrontation entre les divers périodiques conviés, au travers des genres journalistiques susmentionnés, montre la façon dont les femmes participent du combat. Une participation s’inscrivant dans une dynamique universelle mais aussi singulière, qui s’illustre notamment par un « héroïsme du quotidien » (Edith Thomas). En outre, comme le reste de la population civile, les femmes sont la cible des bombardements et les subissent dans leur quotidien et leur chair. Elles sont, aussi, celles qui connaissent l’exode ou l’exil. Le système discursif de ces articles antifascistes connaît alors une transmutation de la catégorie de femme vers celle de mère. Mais face aux multiples aléas et embûches de l’exil, la seconde s’y estompera pour laisser place à la dénonciation du danger encouru par la femme seule. Ces divers articles antifascistes pendant la guerre d’Espagne permettent autant d’éclairer la vision des femmes espagnoles pendant la guerre et l’exil que les images portées sur les femmes dans leur globalité à cette période. Ils permettent, aussi, de nourrir la connaissance sur les périodiques des organisations de secours, de droits de l’homme et de comités et sur l’histoire de la réception de la guerre d’Espagne.

A lateral bias has been previously reported in dance training. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there are any bilateral differences in peak forces, power, and maximum knee flexion during a sequence of three grand jetés and how they relate to leg dominance. A randomised observational design was selected for the study. Volunteers consisted of 20 female dancers in the last year of pre-professional training. All volunteers completed three different tests to determine leg dominance prior to completing a three grande jeté sequence. The lead leg for the jump sequence was randomised. Peak take-off power, relative landing force (BW), and maximum knee flexion angles were measured using a Myotest accelerometer and integrated goniometer. Results indicated that 90% of dancers reported right leg dominance. A significant difference was noted in peak take-off power among the jumps (p<0.01); post hoc test indicated jump 3 was significantly greater than jump 1. Mean maximum take-off knee angles increased over the three-jump sequence with the left leg having a significantly deeper plié than the right (p<0.01). Landing data showed an increase in peak force and a decrease in maximum knee angles across the jump sequence. The present data indicate different bilateral strategies during take-off and landing during grand jetés in female dancers resulting in increased forces during the jumps on the non-dominant side. These differences need to be addressed by incorporating appropriate modifications in training methodology that eliminates the observed bilateral differences.

<zakljucak> Hepatorenalni sindrom je funkcionalna insuficijencija bubrega u sklopu terminalne insuficijencije jetre. U patogenezi ovog sindroma ucestvuju hemodinamske promene (snizeni srednji arterijski pritisak i perfuzioni pritisak bubrega) i povecano stvaranje sistemskih i bubreznih vazoaktivnih medijatora sa stimulacijom bubreznog simpatickog sistema. Standardna medicinska farmakoloska terapija usmerena je na prethodno navedene patofizioloske poremecaje. U poslednje vreme postupci detoksikacije, npr. jedan od vidova albuminske dijalize, pojavljuju se sve vise u lecenju bolesnika sa HRS, ali se jos ne preporucuju kao standardna procedura. Oba vida lecenja preduzimaju se samo kao premoscenje perioda do transplantacije jetre ili u slucajevima kada se ocekuje oporavak funkcije jetre, jer bubrezna funkcija direktno zavisi od funkcije jetre. Standardna hemodijaliza ne pomaze u poboljsanju funkcije bubrega. Jedino kauzalno resenje ovog problema donosi transplantacija jetre.

Uvod: Bakterijske infekcije čest su uzrok komplikacija i dekompenzacije kod bolesnika s cirozom jetre. Cilj je ove studije proučiti etiologiju, kliničke manifestacije, tijek i ishod bakterijskih infekcija te identificirati prediktore mortaliteta kod bolesnika s cirozom jetre i sepsom. Materijali/metode: Proveli smo retrospektivnu kohortnu studiju u koju je uključeno 257 bolesnika s cirozom jetre koji su bili hospitalizirani u Klinici za infektivne bolesti „Dr. Fran Mihaljević“ (KZIB) u petogodišnjem razdoblju (2011. - 2015.). Analizirali smo demografske, kliničke te mikrobiološke podatke s ciljem identifikacije prediktora mortaliteta. Rezultati: Najčešći klinički sindrom kod prijema bolesnika bila je primarna bakterijemija nepoznatog ishodišta (40,8 %). Prethodno dijagnosticiranu kroničnu bolest jetre imalo je 39,2 % bolesnika. Kod 50 % bolesnika najčešći uzrok ciroze jetre bio je alkoholne geneze. Uzročnik je izoliran kod 71,4 % bolesnika, najčešće iz hemokultura (59,1 %). Korekcija empirijske terapije učinjena je u 11,2 % slučajeva, uzevši u obzir mikrobiološke izolate. Medijan do početka adekvatne antimikrobne terapije bio je 3 dana. Do komplikacija je došlo kod 62,2 % bolesnika. Ukupni mortalitet za vrijeme hospitalizacije iznosio je 28,5 %. Odgođena adekvatna antimikrobna terapija u razdoblju ≥ 72 sata, invazivna mehanička ventilacija i akutno bubrežno zatajenje pokazale su se neovisno povezanima sa smrtnim ishodom. Zaključak: Ovom smo studijom opisali epidemiologiju i etiologiju bakterijemija kod bolesnika s cirozom jetre u Hrvatskoj. S obzirom na to da je infekcija prvi prezentirajući znak ciroze u našoj kohorti, naglašava se potreba za sustavnijim probirom u svrhu ranog otkrivanja kronične bolesti jetre i sprječavanja komplikacija. Visoka stopa multiplo-rezistentnih infekcija iz opće populacije naglašava potrebu za izradom nacionalnih smjernica za empirijsko liječenje bakterijskih infekcija kod bolesnika s cirozom jetre.

Background: Trauma is one of today's most serious and expensive health care problems, and it is the most common cause of mortality in young population. Non-operative treatment is standard strategy for management of blunt liver injuries in hemodynamically stable patients in last decade. Methods: Retrospective study included patients with liver trauma, admitted in the period december 1995-december 2005, in total 476. Results: 392 of 476 patients presenting with liver trauma had blunt and only 84 had penetrating injury. Isolated liver injury was identified in 27,5% and 72,5% had associated injuries. Average ISS value was 24.06 (SD=14.26). During the operation liver injury in patients was classified according to Moor. In 2% critical patients, due to hemodynamic unstability we performed 'damage control surgery'. Out of 476 patients 87,% were successfully managet, 6,1% died as 'mors in tabula' or during first 24 hours and 6,9% died during hospitalization. Conclusion: Higher proportion of nonoopertively treated is among patients with ISS less than and those with injuries grade I end II.

Abstract:
Due to improved methods of treatment and management of hemorrhage, the mortality from liver injuries has decreased significantly over the past few decades. In spite of that, liver injuries still represent diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. This retrospective study included 197 patients surgically treated because of trauma of the liver at The Clinic for Emergency Surgery, during the period 2004-2009. The results showed significant difference in mortality rates in cases of penetrating wounds compared to blunt trauma and gunshot wounds. The severity of injury evaluated by Organ Injury Scale was significantly higher in gunshot wounds compared to blunt and penetrating trauma. The correlation of severity of injuries and mortality rates showed that the mortality is significantly lower in patients with grade 1, 2, and 3 injuries compared to grades 4 and 5 (p=0.016). Specific complication rate was 28.4%, while mortality rate was 21.8%. The results reflect diagnostic and treatment problems, as well as the importance of multidisciplinary approach to the patients with liver trauma.

Hepatitis C vodeći je uzrok kronične bolesti jetre, hepatocelularnog karcinoma i važna indikacija za transplantaciju jetre. Glavni cilj liječenja je postizanje trajnog virološkog odgovora koji označava negativnu viremiju 12 tjedana nakon završetka liječenja (SVR, od engl. sustained virological response). Uvođenjem antivirusnih lijekova s izravnim djelovanjem, povećala se stopa SVR-a, skratilo vrijeme trajanja terapije i utjecalo se na stadij fibroze i steatoze jetre nakon liječenja. Cilj ovog rada bio je analizirati promjenu stadija fibroze (F1-F4) i steatoze (S0-S3) primjenom tranzijentne elastografije u prethodno neliječenih bolesnika s kroničnim hepatitisom C (n=205) koji su postigli trajni virološki odgovor, a bili liječeni isključivo direktno djelujućim antivirusnim lijekovima (DAA).

Abstract:
The aim of the study is evaluation of hepatocellular function, as well as morphology and patency of the biliary three of the liver transplants by dynamic hepatobiliary scintigraphy. The study was performed in 10 controls and 10 patients after orthotopic transplantation (up to two years). Sixty minutes dynamic acquisition (1 frame/min) was performed with scintillation camera after injection of 360 MBq 99mTc-diethyl-IDA. Hepatobiliary scintigrams were analysed for morphology, and parenchymal and hepatobiliary TA curves were generated and analysed as regard to the time to maximal acitivity (Tmax) and the time to half of maximum acitivity (T1/2). Uptake of the radiopharmaceutical was slightly but not significantly delayed (Tmax=18.5+2.9 min) in comparison to the controls (Tmax=14.2+ 3.4min), while excretion was significantly prolonged (T1/2=59.5+ 12.1 min) than physiological (Tmax=34.2+4.1min). Intrahepatic bile flow was nonsignificantly prolonged (Tmax=31.3+3.7 min) in comparison to the controls (Tmax=25.7+ 3.5 min) while extrahepatic one is high significantly prolonged (T1/2=89.0+14.3 min) than physiological (T1/2 =45.0+ 7.2 min). Biliary phase of hepatobiliary scintigraphy showed increased accumulation of radiopharmaceutical in the left (n=1) or right (n=2) hepatic duct. Radionuclide methods are noninvasive, and apear to be sensitive and valuable for the monitoring of liver transplants.
