Abstract Most Romance languages share a grammaticalized construction to refer to events in the recent past, e.g. the passé récent in French and the pasado reciente in Spanish. In English, typically a present perfect alongside the adverb just is used to convey this meaning, commonly referred to as perfect of recent past (Comrie 1985) or hot news perfect (McCawley 1971). We show the French passé récent leads to a reading of immediate anteriority, which blocks readings that are available for the passé composé (Bres & Labeau 2015). In a parallel corpus study, we find that the Spanish and Frenc

The Aspect Hypothesis (AH) (Andersen 1986, 1991) suggests an eight-stage development of the Spanish tense–aspect system by English learners in which tenses progressively mark verb categories. The current paper, which presents some of the main findings from Labeau (2005), explores the relevance of the AH to an acquisitional setting other than that for which it was developed. Specifically, it tests the four tenets of the AH, as described by Shirai and Kurono (1998) against data from the acquisition of the French tense/aspect system by advanced learners of French in a tutored environment. Abstract:
Background Pressure ulcers (PUs) pose a significant health problem that can be prevented in various healthcare settings, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs). PU increases the risk of morbidity and mortality and is associated with poor prognosis in ICU patients. ICU prevalence rates for PU have been estimated to range from 21% to 39.3% worldwide (Coyer et al., 2022). According to a recent meta-analysis, the prevalence of PU in Iran's ICUs was 19.59% (Sohrabi Akhkand et al., 2020). Despite these alarming facts, PU is often preventable with adherence of healthcare providers to evidence-ba
