Abstract Introduction/Objective The Gram stain is the first actionable result reported to guide treatment. In our laboratory, we noted instances of initial Gram stain results discrepant to subsequent cultures. In reevaluating the Gram stain bench, we devised a survey for medical laboratory scientists (MLS) to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the current workflow to search for areas of improvement. Results of the survey will help both leadership and MLS approach improving the interpretation and reporting of Gram stains. Methods/Case Report A 16-question survey was issued to all MLS in

This paper addresses the issue of accidental stains on textiles as opposed to intentional printing and dyeing practices. The subject of study is individual and collaborative craft design strategies which are centred around the stain and its treatment. The nature and types of stains as well as varied opinions and interpretations that reflect social constructions, norms, and values around it are observed. The creative potential of the stain for textile artists and designers who experiment with print and dye, delving into the possibilities of stain and questioning the borderlines between those ar

Abstract This article provides an overview of the pathology of alveolar soft part sarcoma, focused on its morphology, special stains useful in diagnosis, and the clinical and radiographic features of the disease. Alveolar soft part sarcoma is a rare neoplasm of unknown histogenesis with poor prognosis. Although there are several immunohistochemical stains available to help reach the diagnosis, the morphology of the tumor should be considered the main diagnostic feature. The periodic acid–Schiff stain is the best single stain that supports the diagnosis.

The diagnosis of atrophic gastritis can be challenging if few biopsy samples are available and if the location of the biopsies in the stomach is not known, such as when random biopsies are sampled in one jar.
