This virtual instrumentation system based on Arduino and LabVIEW aims to detect the water level using a water level sensor. The water level sensor used to measure the water level is the Funduino type. This sensor and the buzzer module are connected to the Arduino Uno to transmit data to LabVIEW. When the water has reached a certain height, this sensor will detect the water level. When the water has reached the set point, this sensor will sound a buzzer as a sign that the water is full. Based on the experimental results, it is found that the tension value affects the volume of the experiment site. Where the greater the volume used will produce a large voltage, and vice versa. Furthermore, the graph results obtained that are still away from the linearity of a regression function with a value of y = 0.0079x + 1.8561 and R² = 0.4298.

In this paper how to generate respiratory flow that has fractal signal feature is introduced. Physiological signal have fractal feature have been verified by many researchers, such as heart beat rate, interbreath interval. Mechanical ventilators are used to provide life support for patients with respiratory failure. But these machines can damage the lung, causing them to collapse. On the other hand, fractal feature can be used as an indication of health situation; as a result in patient simulation the physiological signal should also have fractal features. The fractal feature is generated by fractional Brownian motion simulation. The fractal dimension is decided by Hurst exponent in routine. The algorithm is realized by R language and result is input into LabVIEW which have friendly interface and easy for simulation control usage. The method can be used in design of mechanical ventilator and medical patient simulator.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The thesis completes the current programming equipment for experimental measurement of isolated animal heart signals. It adds a block providing the pre-processing of the signals. The signals measured are the elektrogram (EG) and the action potential (AP). The origin of individual signals, the measuring method and the possibilities of noise elimination are dealt with in the theoretical part of the thesis. The practical part describes the pre-processing block securing the noise elimination during the AP. It uses accumulative methods of averaging the corresponding time periods of the AP. Based on the results of measuring the signal to noise ratio, the thesis suggests the most appropriate accumulative methods and their variables. In order for the chosen accumulative methods to work well, it is important to divide the AP process into sectors of corresponding shape (repeats). The connection between the EG and AP processes is used to determine the beginning and end of the sectors. These points are identified by the detection of R and T wave peaks in the EG. To detect the R and T waves, the thesis uses methods based on wavelet transform. The efficiency and accuracy of detection methods is verified by test EG signals with hand-marked R and T wave peaks.

Chowdhury, Usman. "A cooler Penning trap to cool highly charged radioactive ions and mass measurement of 24Al." 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/1993/31511.

Full text
Abstract:
Penning trap mass spectrometry (PTMS) can be used to test the Standard Model (SM) and to answer the questions related to the origin and abundance of the elements in the universe. There are several facilities worldwide specialized in PTMS and some of them can measure the masses of isotopes with half-lives in the range of milliseconds. TRIUMF’s ion trap for atomic and nuclear science (TITAN) is one such facility. In mass measurement the precision is linearly proportional to the charge state of the ion of interest. To increase the charge state, ions are charge-bred using an electron beam ion trap (EBIT) at TITAN. However, the charge breeding process introduces an energy spread among the ions which adversely affects the precision of the mass measurement. To overcome this problem a cooler Penning trap (CPET) was designed, assembled and is now being tested off-line. This thesis presents the first systematic test results of CPET. We also present the result of the first Penning trap mass measurement of the isotope 24Al, which is five times more precise than the previous atomic mass evaluation (AME2012) value. The precise and accurate mass of 24Al is important for both astrophysics and for test of the standard model (SM). The resonance energy (E_r) calculated for the 23Mg(p,gamma)24Al reaction using the ground state mass of 24Al reported in this thesis shows a 2s deviation from the direct measurement. On the other hand, tests of the SM by evaluating f_t values using isospin T = 1 nuclides have reached a high precision level. Effort is now shifting towards the T = 2 nuclides, which are far from stability compared to their T = 1 counterparts. For this reason, the ground state masses of T = 2 nuclides and of their decay products are required to be known with high precision. 24Al is the daughter of one such nucleus, 24Si. The ground state mass of 24Al reported in this thesis will be useful to test the SM.<br>October 2016

Abstract:
Numerical and experimental investigations of a venturi flow into a cross flow have been performed. The numerical analyses were performed using the CD-Adapco CCM+ commercial software with non-uniform mesh and the standard k-ε turbulence model. The analyses were performed for the venturi outlet directly connected to the bottom surface of the wind tunnel and for the venturi connected to the wind tunnel bottom surface with a 15.24 cm long tube extension of the same diameter. The experimental investigations were carried out in a subsonic open-circuit wind tunnel facility of the Center for Energy and Environmental Research and Services (CEERS) in conjunction with a single hot wire sensor and a LabView-National Instrument data acquisition system. For the experimental investigations, the venturi was connected to the bottom surface of the wind tunnel without the extension tube. For the numerical investigations, the ratios of the venturi flow momentum to the cross flow momentum, r, were 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1.0. For the experimental investigations, the momentum ratios were 0.5, 0.85, and 1.0. For all analyses, isothermal condition is assumed. Results indicate when r = 0.25 and 0.5, the venturi flow is confined to an area near the wind tunnel surface with high static pressure within the venturi and the extension tube. However, for momentum ratios higher than 0.5, the venturi flow penetrates into the cross flow, before being tilted into the cross flow. For high r values, there is a counter-rotating vortex pair which grows in downstream direction. The adverse pressure gradient upstream of the venturi flow affects the flow characteristics inside the venturi at low momentum ratios. However, there were no indications of flow separation or flow recirculation within the venturi or the extension tube.

Abstract:
As spacecraft increase in complexity, greater power is required to drive their onboard systems. The resulting generation of waste heat demands efficient thermal control, especially for electrical components emitting heat at high flux densities. Weislogel proposed a passive two-phase heat transport system for space application, driven by constant volume boilers, called the pulse thermal loop (PTL). This paper describes four methods of operating a PTL using real-time pressure data as the control parameter. Preliminary results are presented from an experimental loop using R-134a as the working fluid. Control is exercised through algorithm-based schemes implemented in LabVIEW. Results suggest that stable operation of the loop is best achieved by actuating flow control valves in response to a preset pressure difference between the boilers. Control schemes based on absolute pressure, set pulse frequency, and a combination of absolute and differential pressures are also described. Performance data are presented, and some of the challenges faced during PTL operation are discussed, including start-up and asymmetrical pressurization of the boilers.

Abstract:
A series of experiments were performed on a flat honeycomb burner with air coflow to ensure laminar flow in order to study the effect of Acetylene/Argon mixture to the natural gas (NG) on the temperature distribution and flame structure. The burner assembly could be traversed in the horizontal and vertical direction controlled by using a field point system to scan the flame radially and axially. The flow rate of fuel, diluents and air was measured using differential pressure flow meters. The whole supply lines were calibrated. Methane gas, air and Acetylene/Argon mixture were injected through mixing pipes controlled with solenoid valves handled with a LabVIEW program. The combustion flame was in room atmospheric conditions with room disturbances controlled to treat such flames as free jet diffusion flames. The laminar flame axial and radial temperature profile was measured using a shielded-aspirated platinum/ Platinum-13% Rhodium thermocouple (type R). Flame images were taken using Canon EOS camera with CMOS sensor, up to 3.7 fps. The fuel used was NG with flow rate from 180 up to 520 ml/min. Ar flow rate up to 350 ml/min and C2H2 up to 100 ml/min with a constant coflow air of 3 l/min. The choice of the different Investigated cases was based on flame stability. The results obtained indicate the following: – In case of using air, NG and Ar, the fuel rich zone tends to vanish and in case of injecting Ar and acetylene mixture in addition of NG and air the front zone tends to vanish and the flame became mainly diffusion. – Maximum temperature was at the flame tip in all cases. Increasing Ar percentage up to 50% decreases tip temperature to nearly 870°C compared to the typical case (about 1000 °C); increasing acetylene content over 15% resulted in dense soot formation.
