Multiple shallow sediment cores were obtained from Pilot Valley playa, a sub-basin located in the northwestern Bonneville basin. Analysis of stratigraphy, ostracodes, mineralogy, chemistry, total inorganic carbon (TIC), total organic carbon (TOC), and stable isotopes were performed to better place these sediments into proper context with respect to the Lake Bonneville cycle. Two sets of cores were recovered from the southern Kenya Rift (Koora and Magadi basins) through the Hominid Sites and Paleolakes Drilling Project and the Olorgesailie Drilling Project. These contain a detailed environmental Quaternary history with records of up to ~1 million years. Pilot Valley, located in the eastern Basin and Range, north of Wendover, UT, contains numerous shorelines and depositional remnants of late Pleistocene Lake Bonneville. These remnants present classic ground penetrating radar (GPR) targets due to their coherent stratification, low clay, low salinity, and low moisture content. Three-dimensional (3D) GPR imaging can resolve fine-scale stratigraphy of these deposits down to a few centimeters. This study synthesizes the deposition and tectonic evolution of the Tertiary deposits in southern Cache Valley, a narrow, north-trending valley in the northeastern Basin-and- Range Province. The surrounding mountains consist of Proterozoic and Paleozoic sedimentary rocks. Southern Cache Valley is an east-tilted half-graben. Seismic reflection (P- and SH-wave), ground-penetrating radar, correlative drilling, and age dating data provide evidence of neotectonic deformation along the Caborn (CF) and Hovey Lake (HLF) faults, in the Wabash Valley fault system (WVFS). The WVFS is a series of high-angle normal faults located primarily in southern Indiana and Illinois. The paucity of polliniferous deposits on the British chalklands has left something of a vacuum in the known vegetational history of the British Isles. Conflicting ideas of the past landscape of the chalklands have been presented by archaeologists (e.g. Clark, 1936) and botanists (e.g. Tansley, 1939; Pigott and Walters, 1954). Lake Vanda is a meromictic, permanently ice-covered lake in the McMurdo Dry Valleys. The McMurdo Dry Valleys are a polar desert in Southern Victorialand Antarctica. This area experiences very little rainfall and very cold average temperatures, around –20°C. Lake Vanda has an unusual limnological profile, with a sharp physical and chemical gradient at about 60 m where the water transitions from cold, oxic, and fresh, to warm, hypersaline, and sulfidic; CaCl2 rather than NaCl is the dominant salt.
