Abstract:

Teatr, a zwłaszcza teatr lalek, zajmuje w plastycznej edukacji dziecka szczególne miejsce. Wizerunki scenicznych bohaterów silnie zapadają w pamięć dziecka i niekiedy na długo stapiają się z wyobrażeniem postaci związanych ze znanymi baśniami, opowieściami i sztukami. Oryginalna dramaturgia teatru lalek rzadko bywa dostępna w lekturze, dlatego też spotkanie z lalką odkrywa przed widzem nowy świat. Inaczej jest w przypadku adaptacji znanych powieści lub baśni – wówczas lalka musi się zmierzyć z możliwym wcześniejszym wyobrażeniem dziecka, wyniesionym z ilustrowanych książek. Namacalność lalki teatralnej, jejkonkretność odróżnia ją w sposób zasadniczy od wszelkich ilustracji, komiksów, filmów animowanych czy książek-zabawek. Szczególne znaczenie ma artystyczna ranga plastyki teatralnej i wszelkich form poddawanych animacji (czyli animantów). Teatr jest miejscem, w którym znaczna część literatury dziecięcej zamienia się w sceniczny obraz.

Abstract:

O ile po pobieżnej lekturze Lalki oraz Ludzi bezdomnych można odnieść wrażenie, że autorzy obu powieści stosują zupełnie różne rozwiązania formalne, aby nadać swoim dziełom ostateczny kształt, o tyle wnikliwsza analiza pozwala dostrzec kilka inspiracji kompozycyjnych zastosowanych przez Żeromskiego, czerpiącego bezpośrednio z dokonań warsztatu pisarskiego Prusa. Spójne koncepcje kompozycyjne obu powieści są jednak podszyte regułami ustalonymi na długo przez końcem XIX wieku — obaj pisarze znajdują bowiem wyraźną inspirację w teorii tragedii antycznej Arystotelesa. I choć prawidła Stagiryty dotyczą dramatu, to doskonale sprawdzają się także podczas wydobywania tragicznych rysów bohatera na gruncie dzieł epickich, co — zdaje się — doskonale przeczuwali Prus i Żeromski, swoiście transponując formalne reguły tragedii antycznej do swoich powieści. W artykule autor prześledzi naznaczone tragizmem losy Wokulskiego i Judyma, przykładając do nich wypracowany przez Arystotelesa schemat tragedii greckiej.

Abstract:

Artykuł dotyczy zmian w metodologiach humanistycznych. Wychodząc od etapu badań nad tożsamością grup, odwołuje się do tekstu Ewy Domańskiej i zastosowanych w nim metafor poszukiwania nowych tematów i obiektów jako nawigowania po morzu. Za istotne uznaje podejście autobiograficzne, akcentujące doświadczenie badacza. Przykładem takiego podejścia są interpretacje powieści Bolesława Prusa Lalka, weryfikowane w przebiegu życia. Najszerzej omówiony został przykład wpływu autorefleksji na teorię na podstawie książek Susan Faludi (Backlash, In the Darkroom).

Abstract:

W swojej najwybitniejszej powieści, Lalce, Bolesław Prus poruszył wiele aspektów tzw. kwestii żydow-skiej. Pisarz ukazał kilka faz w rozwoju stosunków polsko-żydowskich. Pierwsza to faza braterskiej równości sprzed powstania styczniowego. Następnie zdarzył się okres asymilacji Żydów. Na końcu Prus przedstawił narastającą wrogość wobec Żydów. Ogólnie rzecz ujmując, pisarz krytykował antysemityzm zarówno w Lalce, jak i w swojej twórczości publicystycznej. Z drugiej jednak strony przyznać trzeba, że Prus często postrzegał Żydów w sposób stereotypowy. Lalka ukazuje ekonomiczny triumf Zydów nad niepraktycznymi i nieudolnymi Polakami. Ukazane w powieści nastroje antysemickie zwiastowały warszawski pogrom Żydów z końca 1881 roku.

Abstract:

The subject of this article falls within the sociology of art. By analyzing selected aspects of a novel (Bolesław Prus’s The Doll) and a film (the Oscar-winning Green Book directed by Peter Farrelly), the author raises the problem of what he calls “ambiguous hospitality.” His point of departure and theoretical basis are George Ritzer’s concept of “inhospitality” and Jacques Derrida’s idea of “hostipitality.”The author treats each artistic depiction of reality as a source of situations to be read in light of elements of Erving Goffman’s reflections. He uses the ideas of symbolic interactionism, the interactive ritual, and the metaphor of the performance as tools for interpreting a film or literary situation that illustrates cultural attitudes and practices. In conclusion, he states that hosting someone could result from something other than a sincere desire to react to another human being in a friendly manner. However, this does necessarily undermine the sincerity of openness toward strangers. Realization of the maxim to “have dignity and respect others,” even if enforced by social sanction, can be a way to maintain or build relationships between those who are “one’s own” and “other,” “one’s own” and “strangers,” and finally, between a guest and host.

Postmodern image of Death in the novel Dřevĕná panenka by Martin KomárekThe presented analytic-interpretative study deals with the image of Death in the work of fiction Dřevěná panenka Wooden Doll, 1990 by Czech writer Martin Komárek. This book opens the series of four novels published during the last decade of the 20th century in which this author repeatedly returns to the theme of death and dying. This article focuses primarily on the theme of the fight with death and the possibilities of overcoming mortality. The essay pays special attention to the specific modality of Komárek’s work of fiction that is based on intertextual relations mostly on the level of motifs with Gothic novels. The study also registers the grotesque dimension in the personification of death in the form of a terrible doll-puppet, and attempts to interpret the theme of death in Komárek’s novel in the context of postmodern poetics. Książka ta otwiera serię czterech powieści wydanych w ostatnim dziesięcioleciu XX wieku, w których autor wielokrotnie powraca do tematu śmierci i umierania. W niniejszym tekście badania koncentrują się przede wszystkim na motywie walki ze śmiercią, na jej przezwyciężaniu, dostrzegając jednocześnie cechy wspólne analizowanego dzieła szczególnie na poziomie motywów między innymi z gatunkiem powieści gotyckiej. W artykule zwrócono uwagę na groteskowy wymiar uosobienia śmierci w postaci budzącej lęk lalki-kukiełki. W analizie utworu wzięto również pod uwagę wcześniejszą interpretację tematu śmierci w prozie Komárka w kontekście poetyki postmodernistycznej.

Abstract:

Some problems of the dialectal vocabulary – the Polish folk names of dragonfliesThis paper deals with the Polish folk names of a dragonfly – an insect belonging to the order Odonata. Over 90 Polish dialectal names were gathered and analyzed here. The motivation of these names has been discussed in this paper. Moreover, the information about the geographical occurrence of these lexemes is given here.As it has been appeared, these names mainly refer metaphorically to some typical morphological or behavioral characteristic feature of the dragonfly, for example samolot, lalka, szklarz. Some lexemes reflect also the folk beliefs. For example, there are names in which an association between the dragonfly and the snake is expressed – gadzia głowa, węzi pastuch. Generally, the names of a dragonfly in Polish dialects are culturally determined.

Abstract:

El documento que presentamos aquí fue extraído de una investigación más amplia que tiene como título Canal de Nicaragua: Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (por sus siglas ESIA), que la compañía ERM realizara por encargo de la entidad ejecutora del proyectado canal por Nicaragua. El segmento aquí traducido al español es una evaluación de los efectos negativos que tendría el proyecto canalero sobre los pueblos indígenas rama-kriol, principalmente, en cuanto a: la tenencia tradicional de la tierra y de los recursos naturales, las actividades de la vida cotidiana, las prácticas culturales, la identidad y la precaria sobrevivencia del idioma. Al final del informe propone medidas de mitigación conducentes a reducir los efectos perjudiciales. El contenido del informe fue aprobado en noviembre del 2015 por el gobierno de Nicaragua junto con sus recomendaciones. Abstract:

Agata Drwięga analizuje, w jaki sposób zwierzęta są obecne we współczesnych dramatach dla dzieci oraz na scenach polskich teatrów lalek. Autorka wspomina sztuki (Malwinka w Ptasim Królestwie A. Wiktorowskiej-Chmielewskiej i Marvin M. Guśniowskiej), które cechuje przedmiotowe podejście do zwierząt. Swoją uwagę koncentruje przede wszystkim na tekstach eksponujących wybrane aspekty zwierzęcej natury, jednak nieuciekających od antropomorfizacji bohaterów (Dziób w dziób M. Prześlugi, Wąż M. Guśniowskiej i Tylko jeden dzień M. Baltscheita). Ostatnim przedmiotem analizy jest spektakl Baltic. Pies na krze R. Wiczy-Pokojskiego, gdzie opowiedziano historię zwierzęcia, zachowując odrębność jego natury, jednocześnie stawiając je na równi z człowiekiem. Podejście realizatorów do kwestii zwierzęcej objawia się zarówno przez wygląd lalek, jak ich rolę w spektaklu. Animanty zwierząt niepopularnych (takich jak gołąb, wąż czy jętka) rzadziej niż lalki ssaków (kot, pies) wykazują podobieństwo do swoich, występujących w naturze, pierwowzorów. Jednocześnie lalki bohaterów nie-ludzkich niemal zawsze upodabnia się do ludzi lub infantylizuje.

Artykuł określa znaczenie późnodziewiętnastowiecznych badań i refleksji psychologicznych dla konstruowania opisów w Lalce Bolesława Prusa. Kwestie związane z opisem świata i człowieka – jak pokazują autorskie „notatki o kompozycji” pisarza z tego czasu – budowały ważny wątek jego epistemologicznej i artystycznej refleksji. Podejmowane przez Jakuba Malika (1970-2017) analizy tekstów pozytywistycznych miały kilka zasadniczych cech. Najpierw badacz ten zainteresowany był uzupełnianiem pewnych miejsc, które nie były dotąd dostatecznie oświetlone w pracach szczegółowych. W ostatnich latach swoich badań skupił się przede wszystkim na odkrywaniu odniesień polskich pozytywistów do Biblii i do chrześcijaństwa. Szczególnie w pracach z lat 2008-2017 widać wyraźny zwrot związany z zastosowaniem analizy kerygmatycznej, pozwalającej na mocniejsze podkreślenie związków życia bohaterów literackich, zwłaszcza z Lalki Bolesława Prusa, z antropologią chrześcijańską.

The subject of the analysis is the animated puppet film Aria by Pjotr Sapegin, which refers to the plot and the music – through the quotes from the aria ‘Un bel dì vedremo’ in the arrangement of Normand Roger – of the opera Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini. By taking as a main reference point a description of musical operations made in the film and their contribution in constructing the meanings of the audiovisual work, the author of the article moves successively between several interpretation levels: historical (she situates the film within the puppet’s opera tradition), media-theoretical (she considers the qualitative transformation of the doll in theater and film in the perspective of different aesthetics of both media), theatrological (she reflects on the doll’s ontology, with particular emphasis on the question of comicality), and operological (she refers in part to the entire opera of Puccini and portrays more accurately verbal, musical and dramaturgical values of the aria ‘Un bel dì vedremo’, while proving that the Sapegin’s film is an example of meta-reflection on aria as a form of dramatic-musical expression). The multiple perspectives of the study are used to reveal the dramatic, stylistic, adaptive and philosophical complexity of Sapegin’s work and lead to the recognition of the capabilities of an animated film as an audiovisual medium that continually leads a creative dialogue with music as well as the potential of the puppet aesthetics at the beginning of the 21st century.

Na powieść Dennisa Soboleva Legendy góry Karmel składa się czternaście — fabularnie odrębnych —nowel, połączonych nie tyle bohaterami, co miejscem — Hajfą, a także symbolicznymi odniesieniami. Hajfa jest tu jednocześnie realna i fantastyczna. W świecie przedstawionym na równych prawach funkcjonują zarówno golemy/lalki, ludzie zamienieni w babuiny, zjawy, a także Izraelczycy — repatrianci z byłego Związku Sowieckiego. Soil zinc (Zn) deficiency limits crop growth and yield besides its low concentration in grain and straw. Growing of Zn efficient cultivars with high crop yield at low Zn supply would represent a sustainable approach to crop production. Therefore, to evaluate Zn efficiency of rice genotypes, twenty eight different rice genotypes were evaluated under various treatments like three levels of Zn viz. low (without Zn), medium (10 kg Zn ha-1 soil) and high (20 kg Zn ha-1 soil + three foliar sprays of 0.5% Zn). Zinc efficiency index of all genotypes ranged from 65.5 to 102.6 % and Zn uptake efficiency ranged from 53.8 to 107 % with a mean value of 87.1 and 76.5 %. Cultivar GR-101 was having the highest Zn efficiency index as well as Zn efficiency compared to other genotype. Based on grain yield and Zn efficiency, the genotypes Ashoka-20, Narmad, GR-12, GR-3, GR-1 and GR-2 were classified as efficient and responsive, genotypes GR- 11, SLR -51214. GAUR-10 and GR-13 as efficient and non responsive, whereas, genotypes GR-101, GR-104, GR-102 and Lalkad as inefficient and responsive. The Gurjari, AAUDR-1, K-Kamod, GR-9, GR-5, P-2003 SK-20 and GR-7 genotype were classified as inefficient and non responsive. The efficient and responsive genotypes are most desirable as they would produce higher yield under low Zn concentration in soil and responded well under external application of Zn sources.

<p><span>Publikacja dzieł powieściowych w odcinkach nie była niczym nadzwyczajnym w dobie pozytywizmu. Wraz z rozwojem prasy i dziennikarstwa, jak i krytyki literackiej otwierały się nowe obszary propagatorskie literatury. Już w Oświeceniu publikowano utwory na łamach gazet by stały się dostępne dla szerszego grona odbiorców, jednak koniec wieku XIX przynosi zjawisko, które nieomal czynnie włącza czytelnika w tryb tworzenia się literatury.</span></p><p><span>Bolesław Prus czy Henryk Sienkiewicz, to jedni z najznamienitszych eksperymentatorów w tworzeniu fabuły swojej powieści. Dlaczego? Komponowanie utworu w odcinkach było nie lada wyzwaniem w związku z licznymi obowiązkami pisarzy. Autor „Lalki” publikował powieść na łamach „Kuriera” przez niemal dwa lata. Odcinki wychodziły z różną częstotliwością, ponieważ Bolesław Prus nierzadko wyjeżdżał z Warszawy. Na dodatek każdy zwrot akcji w historii bohaterów wiązał się z licznymi listami do redakcji pism, którzy dziękowali, krytykowali, żądali i szantażowali. Odbiorcy żyli życiem swoich ulubieńców, tak jak współcześnie żyje się serialowymi historiami. Pozytywistyczne społeczeństwo próbowało wymusić na autorach zmiany w akcji utworów. W licznych listach do gazet opisywali swoje reakcje na tekst, podsuwali autorom pomysły. Siła ich głosów, pomysłów, gustów wpływała na tworzenie dzieł, a krytyczne notatki wysyłane do redakcji możemy nazwać początkiem fan-fiction w Polsce. </span></p><p><span>W moim wystąpienie opowiem o szczegółach przypadków powieści odcinkowych i ich wpływie na odbiorcę, a także niemalże brechtowskiej symbiozie czytelnik-autor.</span></p>

Abstract:

The analysis of everyday practices focused on photography has always been an important element of the theoretical reflection on the media. Such a social approach can be found in the writings of classics, such as Benjamin, Sontag, Barthes, and Berger, as well as contemporary theorists. In their works one can find reflection on the cultural need to create one’s image both for oneself and for others. In theory, this problem has been formulated in different ways. It may refer to making a family album (Hirsch) or to the selfie as an “extension and enhancement of a long tradition of the self-portrait” (Mirzeoff) or to action that embodies an imagined identity, rooted in communication practices (van Dijck). The gist of those discussions is the perception of oneself and others, and the technological methods of picturing, experiencing, and distributing that perception in society. The paper presents an analysis of the evolution of cultural meanings attributed to the autobiographical memory that affects the concept of identity. Photobiographies can be placed between two extremes: the nineteenth-century belief that “photography cannot flatter,” remembered by Douve Draaisma, and contemporary picture-editing programs. José van Dijck argues that contemporary digital pictures are usually “living” since they can be endlessly modified. The paper has been divided into two parts. One is a short survey of qualitative methods, based on photography and the idea of the autobiographical memory. The other presents biographical artistic practices of Krzysztof Pruszkowski, Nancy Burson, Marek Lalko, and Josef Klammer, as well as autobiographical Internet production (e.g., selfie and time-lapse photography). The conclusion is that the digital media have changed the status of the autobiographical memory by mediatizing its presence in reality.

Abstract The in chemico Direct Peptide Reactivity Assay (DPRA) was developed as a non-animal, relatively high throughput, screening tool for skin sensitization potential. Although the Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) for respiratory sensitization remains to be fully elucidated, it is recognized that the molecular initiation event for both skin and respiratory sensitization to low molecular weight chemicals involves haptenation with proteins. The DPRA examines the reactivity of a test compound to two model peptides (containing either cysteine or lysine) and consequently is able to screen for both skin and respiratory sensitization potential. The DPRA was primarily developed for and validated with organic compounds and assessment of the applicability of the assay to metal compounds has received only limited attention. This paper reports the successful application of the DPRA to a series of platinum compounds, including hexachloroplatinate and tetrachloroplatinate salts, which are some of the most potent chemical respiratory sensitizers known. Eleven platinum compounds were evaluated using the DPRA protocol as detailed by Lalko et al., with only minor modification. Two palladium compounds with structures similar to that of the platinum species studied and cobalt chloride were additionally tested for comparison. The hexachloroplatinate and tetrachloroplatinate salts showed exceptionally high reactivity with the cysteine peptide (EC15 values of 1.4 and 14 μM, respectively). However, for platinum compounds (e.g. hydrogen hexahydroxyplatinate and tetraammineplatinum) where clinical and epidemiological evidence indicates limited sensitization potential, the cysteine DPRA showed only minor or no reactivity (EC15 values of 24 600 and >30 000 μM, respectively). The outcomes of the lysine peptide assays were less robust and where EC15 was measurable, values were substantially higher than the corresponding results from the cysteine assay. This work supports the value of in chemico peptide reactivity as a metric for assessment of platinum sensitization potential and therefore in screening of new platinum compounds for low or absent sensitization potential. Additional studies are required to determine whether the DPRA may be successfully applied to other metals. We provide details on method modifications and precautions important to the success of the DPRA in the assessment of metal reactivity.

Certain vital changes have been incorporated in the operational scheme of INSAT CMVs derivation at INSAT Meteorological Data Processing System (IMDPS) for providing satellite derived winds of improved quality to the users. The modified algorithm uses LAM forecast in QA tests. Pressures and heights are assigned on the basis of mean temperature of certain percentage of cloud population at the cold end of the spectrum. Detailed comparison of CMVs from INSAT and METEOSAT-5 has been done. The improved CMVs from INSAT and METEOSAT-5 show quite good agreement qualitatively. The bias and RMS also show improvements. Zonal winds observed earlier in CMVs have shown improvement. The lesser number of INSAT CMVs is due to lower spatial resolution of INSAT radiometer compared to METEOSAT-5. The two sets of CMVs generated from triplet of images are being combined, taking care of excluding the collocated CMVs in the two sets. The improved INSAT derived CMVs have shown positive impact on the Model forecast.

The process of post-season analysis of CDs to determine the best estimate of a CD’s position and intensity along with other characteristics during its lifetime is described as “best tracking”. The best tracking procedure has undergone several changes world-over including NIO due to change in monitoring and analysis tools & procedure. However, the geostationary satellite remains the main tool for monitoring of location and intensity of CDs. There have been a few attempts to document the role and extent of satellite estimates in determining the best track location and intensity of CDs over the NIO. Hence, a study has been undertaken to compare the location and intensity of CDs based on best track parameters prepared by RSMC, New Delhi with those estimated by satellite division of IMD based on INSAT and Kalpana satellites. The average difference in location of CDs over the NIO, BOB and AS is about 39, 40 and 37 km respectively. The difference in location is 50 km or less in about 65% of the total cases and about 6% of the cases have a difference of 100 km or more over the NIO as a whole. It is about 62% and 6% over the BOB and about 70% and 5% over the AS respectively. Difference in location gradually decreases with increase in T number. It is about 30 km when the intensity of the system is T4.0 or more (very severe cyclonic storms and above intensity) over the BOB, AS and NIO. Considering the spatial distribution of difference in location of CDs, it is higher near the coast and decreases as we move away from the coast. The intensity in the best track agrees with the satellite estimates in about 85.5% of the cases. While the satellite based intensity is underestimated (Satellite division estimated T number is less than best track T number) in 9.5% cases, it is overestimated (Satellite division estimated T number is greater than best track derived T number) in about 5% cases over the NIO. Considering the spatial distribution, the difference occurs mostly when the CD lies near the coast or the islands in the NIO like the difference in location.
