Abstract:
This paper demonstrates that the distribution of county level agricultural land size in the United States is best described by a power-law distribution, a distribution that displays extremely heavy tails. This indicates that the majority of farmland exists in the upper tail. Our analysis indicates that the top 5% of agricultural counties account for about 25% of agricultural land between 1997-2012. The power-law distribution of farm size has important implications for the design of more efficient regional and national agricultural policies as counties close to the mean account for little of th

This research focused on the parcel size and price per acre relationship that exists for Texas rural lands. The objective of this research was to examine the relationship between size and price per acre of land parcels sold in Texas and to analyze the presence of fragmentation of agricultu

Abstract:
This doctoral dissertation addresses land art—ephemeral, site-specific works created from found materials, such as plants, stones, logs, earth, and water, in public and private outdoor locales—by Canadian artists from 1969 to 1980. I examine lesser-known artworks and writings by, and archival materials pertaining to, the N.E. Thing Co. (Iain and Ingrid Baxter), Dean Ellis, Robin Mackenzie, Reinhard Reitzenstein, and Bill Vazan. Despite the diversity of materials and settings chosen by artists, the artworks of interest to this study are united by their operation as viewing devices that t

Innovation is of increasing importance for raising the productivity, competitiveness and growth potential of modern economies (BIS 2010). New products are a form of innovation and New Product Development (NPD) is the term used to describe the innovation process of commercialising a new product idea. Due to the nature of innovation small-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) produce, typically ‘novel’ new-to-the world offerings that provide the highest potential contribution to the economy and businesses themselves, there is an increasing emphasis on NPD within SMEs. Despite this, there is a gap betw

Abstract:
Servitization has been a recognized business phenomenon since the late 1980s to innovate a business’s capabilities and processes to create value for their customer through service. Recent technological advances, particularly in the capabilities being developed by the Internet of Things (IoT) could be an enabler for a servitzation transition at an organization. Servitization, enabled by the Internet of Things (IoT), has not been considered in the context of Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Due to the traits of SMEs, the potential opportunities from effectively servitizing their busines

Abstract:
If a landowner‘s main objective is to maximize his/her profits from planted forest investments, questions such as when and where exactly they should fertilize, thin and clearcut must be answered. We take advantage of an experiment established in 5 different states in the US South. Forest inventory data was collected for different combinations of thinning densities where some of them received fertilization. We use the Land Expectation Value methodology where our assumptions are the infinite amount of Pine rotations while costs and stumpage prices are known and constant, and markets are perfect.

<p> Economic development has become a key issue in the United States. The recruitment and retention of public and private development is a pivotal strategy for increasing the economic prosperity of a region or nation as well as its inhabitants. While all segments of the nation benefit from economic development, the importance of this issue is paramount to the rural areas where income, living conditions, and educational levels may not mirror those of their urban counter part. As a result, rural regions are particularly interested in attracting both public and private investments to improve t

Abstract:
Despite a growing literature on business process re-engineering (BPR) principles and prospects, there is little empirical research evaluating the success or failure of BPR initiatives. This is especially so in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) where the potential for BPR benefit may differ significantly from that in their larger counterparts. An examination of the literature on process re-engineering reveals that BPR guidelines derived from the experiences in large organisations are inadequate for SMEs given the different characteristics of SMEs in terms of size, structure, culture, re
