Abstract:
The article discusses the land-use problem of mountain and semi-desert landscapes of Dagestan caused by the need to improve the ecologization of traditional pastures as well as perspective tourism and recreational land use. Aim. A comprehensive geographic study of land use in the republic is crucial for the formation of ecologically sustainable distillation and nomad livestock and tourist-recreational land use on the natural, zonal and high-belt mountain-semi-desert landscapes that are not fully developed and are not suitable for farming. Discussion. Ecological and economic effects are revealed due to the combined use of semi-desert-mountain pastures and tourist-recreational areas represented by the population carryng capacity, the ecologization of pasture land use and a significant increase in the total livestock production. Improved combined interzonal use of lands with different natural rhythms of vegetation development contributes, first of all, to maintaining the equilibrium and integrity of the regional ecological system; secondly, to the ecological orientation of pasture-livestock and tourist-recreational land use; and thirdly, to the restoration and the functioning of the quality of natural semi-desert and mountain pasture lands. Conclusion. Ecological and landscape improvement within mountain pasture land use is proposed on the basis of the ecological and economic efficiency of the annual cycle of high-altitude sheep keeping with the regular change of pasture lands of different productivity levels by different sex and age groups of pastured livestock.

Abstract:
Lakes provide different ecosystem services, including those related to tourism and recreation. Sustainable development principles should be respected in lake tourism planning. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of tourism on the lakeshore zone in a typical post-glacial Lakeland in Northern Poland (Central Europe). An explanatory analysis of the distribution of individual spatial factor values was performed using the SHapley Additive exPlanations algorithm (SHAP). In a first step, the aim was to select a Machine Learning model for modelling based on Shapley values. The greater or lesser influence of a given factor on the tourism function was measured for individual lakes. The final results of ensemble modelling and SHAP were obtained by averaging the results of five random repetitions of the execution of these models. The impact of tourism on the lakeshore zone can be much more accurately determined using an indirect method, by analysing the tourism and recreational infrastructure constantly present there. The values of the indices proposed in the study provide indirect information on the number of tourists using the tourist and recreational facilities and are a measure of the impact of tourism on the lakeshore zone. The developed methodology can be applied to the majority of post-glacial lakes in Europe and other regions of the world in order to monitor the threats resulting from shore zone exploitation. Such studies can be an appropriate tool for management and planning by the relevant authorities.

Abstract:
The development of tourism leads to changes in land-use demands and patterns, which are complex and dynamic, in tourist cities. Functional differences in land use produce different travel needs and have different impacts on traffic, especially on tourism. This paper explores the relationship between tourism land use and tourism traffic. Taking Xiamen Island as an example, using multivariable linear regression models, tourism land use is divided into accommodation land use, shopping land use and restaurant land use as the independent variables of the model; and the origin-destination (OD) density of traffic analysis zones (TAZs) during National Day in 2018 (October 1 to 5) is chosen as the dependent variable. To compare the different impacts between tourism land use and tourism traffic during the tourism and non-tourism periods, the non-tourism period (March 11 to 15) is further studied. The results show the following: (1) Xiamen, as a tourism city, has not only regular traffic but also tourism traffic, and traffic during the tourism period is totally different than that in the non-tourism period. (2) Tourism land use has a considerable impact on both tourism traffic and non-tourism traffic, but the impact is greater during the tourism period than the non-tourism period. (3) In the morning peak hour of both the tourism period and the non-tourism period, accommodation land use shows prominent effects on traffic. In the evening peak hour, shopping land use significantly impacts traffic. The study provides a basis for urban tourism land use adjustment to achieve the sustainable development of tourism traffic.

Abstract:
With urban development, the tourist experience, as well as the travel area function, is becoming more and more diverse at the same time. Since the land use plan involved in tourism region, overall plan for land utilization in national land department, classification of the urban land and urban construct in Shenzhen, belong to different stages of the corresponding regulations and norms, there have been contradictions in convergence with a lack of coordination. In this paper, according to the current changes in tourism, a brief analysis is given on the corresponding land use in the plan and classification as referred above, and also a brief conclusion is presented.

Braun, Christine. "A qualitative analysis of the networks of tourism SMEs in Germany : managing business networks for knowledge transfer." Thesis, University of Nottingham, 2015. http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/28592/.

Full text
Abstract:
Theoretically, it is said that social capital encourages individuals and entrepreneurs to engage in business networks. Social capital is the sum of the resource benefits an organisation derives from its network of relationships. These external knowledge sources are particularly relevant for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) because of their lack of internal knowledge stock. Yet, social capital theories have primarily been investigated from a structural perspective to measure benefits through centrality and position in structural holes. To understand the resource benefits, however, it is first necessary to understand what knowledge is available, second the content of the relationship, and third the context and conditions that influence these inter-organisational knowledge transfer relationships. Thus, in this thesis, a relational approach is adopted to generate knowledge on inter-firm relationships at the SME level in order to explore how tourism business networks are operated and managed in such a way that enables the knowledge transfer. This study looks into the business networks in which the SMEs of the tourism industry engage, explains the meaning they ascribe to the knowledge transfer potential among these networks, how they exploit the networks, what knowledge is made available, and the managerial as well as contextual factors that influence the network operation and management. A multi-method qualitative strategy was used to investigate naturally emerging business networks in North-East Germany’s tourism industry. A snowball network sampling procedure was applied, from which two network zones emerged, a closed coordinated small network and the members’ individually built business relationships beyond this network. The research was informed by three rounds of qualitative data generation and collection. In total, 12 first-round interviews were used to enter the field, a second-round workshop and discussion group with 31 participants was used to generate preliminary findings and facilitate access, and in the third round 38 semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted to generate data for the main empirical study. This qualitative data analysis was complemented and supported with data from informal conversations and observations, collected documents and field notes, as well as a secondary data review. The study contributes to the body of knowledge on tourism SME networks and the availability and transfer of knowledge. Its original contribution is in providing a greater knowledge and understanding of the cognitive and relational component of social capital, particularly in the formation of a network. It further adds to both literature and theory on network coordinators by unpacking and circumscribing their boundaries. The study also theorises the cult of personality in a network context. In addition, it contributes to the understanding of the role of regional tourism organisations (RTO) in that it explored how different strategies lead to a collaborative environment, effective communication and member exchange. Thus, this research contributes to the conversation of SMEs, tourism business networks, coordination, and knowledge transfer.

Abstract:
This research analyses how urban form, land use and urban density, may influence the incidence of traffic-related crashes injuries and deaths. It begins with a theoretical overview of studies which deal with the study of the relationship between urban patterns and road safety. Next, it details the development of a database of crash incidence and urban form at the district level for the city of Benidorm (Alicante, Spain) in 2010. Subsequently, it is developed a negative binomial approach for intra-city motor vehicle crash analysis. One-year crash data for Benidorm (the fourth largest tourism destination of Spain, after Barcelona, Madrid and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and exclusively tourist-oriented city) are analyzed using a geographic information system (GIS) to generate relevant inputs for the analysis. In general, the study finds that a strong land use mix results on fewer road accidents, whereas accidents are more common but less severe in areas of high urban density. Finally, pedestrian accidents research showed that rural and low density environment is related to an important road accident numbers unlike tourism-oriented zones, much more safe for them. Based on these findings, the paper discusses the implications for urban design practice.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIT2016.2016.3429

Abstract:
Cyprus Island has been divided into two parts since 1974. In April 2003 crossing the Green Line across the borders became possible and both parts of the Island benefited from this; firstly due to resulted domestic tourism in both sides and secondly from new employment opportunities mainly for Turkish Cypriots in South. Besides that, positive expectations over the Cyprus problem accelerated the expenditures in both sides. In the North, demand for land and new dwellings increased, pushing prices upward. Demand for land and a new property by foreigners is busted in recent years. The UK, Israel, Russia and some other countries started to buy land in the North Cyprus by securing resources to their businessmen especially in the areas of Komi Kepir, Kalogrea, Akanthou, Karpass, Risokarpaso, Yialousa and Livera. Such increase in demand by foreigners decreased the supply of land to domestic use. This has many implications on North Cyprus economy which is very small with limited resources in production. In this study, 4- factor, 13-industry a single country general equilibrium model is used to investigate the changes in income, employment, prices, output and inputs required for production resulted from this supply shock. Results show that, under fixed capital and flexible labor market, 10% reduction in land supply increased the value of land by 108.8%, income increased by 2.04 % and prices of skilled labor and capital increased by 1.028% and 1.020% respectively and due to the reduction of land supply, output decreased by 1.53%.

Abstract:
Maui Island in the State of Hawaii faces land use and freshwater allocation challenges associated with a growing population and a changing economic base as plantation agriculture has declined. Debate about whether water should be restored to environmental flows, allocated to new urban development for residents and tourists, or be used to irrigate food or fuel crops has highlighted Maui’s opportunity to make integrated resource decisions that consider land, water, and energy in particular. One major potential water demand on Maui is for irrigation for biofuels crops, such as sugarcane for ethanol. While Maui’s energy system is currently low in water intensity, using irrigated biofuels could increase the need for local water investment in energy systems. This paper aims to characterize surface water supply on Maui in order to draw conclusions about supply adequacy for biofuel irrigation. Narrow-scope empirical equations linking streamflow and precipitation tend to produce more accurate estimates for individual streams: for example, equations based only on northeast Maui streams tend to predict northeast Maui stream flows better than equations based on all of Maui’s streams. However, specific equations do not exist for most regions of Maui. This paper finds that general and specific empirical equations for northeast Maui predict nearly identical aggregate streamflows. Irrigation ditch flow comprises aggregate streamflow from a given region, so it is likely that existing, general equations can predict irrigation ditch flows with acceptable accuracy.
