Abstract:
Due to declining trading volume growth in e-commerce platforms, physical channels have attracted considerable investments from various large international companies (e.g. Alibaba, JD, Walmart, Wanda, and Wuzhou International). However, e-commerce platforms can track consumers’ behaviors (attraction to landing page design, clicks on certain products, consumer behavior trajectory tracking, clicks on advertisements, and internal link optimization of product pages), a feat unachievable in current physical channels. Consequently, this study attempted to apply the characteristics of online channels in a physical channel by using image object tracking and image detection techniques. Through this inclusion, physical channels are capable of providing consumers with more favorable experience and interaction, and brick-and-mortar store owners can obtain a more accurate understanding of consumer behaviors of store consumers. Information acquired through this system can be provided to store owners to serve as reference for merchandise placement, arrangement of display shelves, and consumer circulation path planning. This study used the technique of image processing to locate the Region of Interest and applied object tracking to get the consumer’s trajectory which successfully implemented the consumer-tracking characteristics of online platforms in a physical channel while retaining the unique experience of the physical channel. This results in a win–win scenario for businesses and consumers.

Abstract:
The world demands a smart and green future in every sector, which directly corresponds to increases in electrical energy demand one way or another. It is unfeasible to attain future energy demand with the present electrical infrastructure. That means more research and development is required. Future energy sources should be intermittent, and, in addition, the energy sector should be more inwards for distributed energy generation with demand side control. In such cases, the smartest and most autonomous system would be essential to deliver an adequate power supply with all electrical properties. A real-time monitoring and control system with a self-healing infrastructure is a forthcoming desideratum. By accepting these challenges, we have designed a smart street. The basic idea of the smart street is presented in this paper as a landing page; the paper is more focused on emphasizing information regarding the electrical energy flow algorithm for the household, street, and street battery storages. This algorithm is helpful for two-way energy flow and the automatic detection of islanding and the grid connection mode. It will be not only helpful for the users but to the utility as well.

Full text
Abstract:
The small-spotted catshark is one of the most abundant elasmobranchs in the Northeastern Atlantic Ocean. Although its landings are devoted for human consumption, in general this species has low commercial value with high discard rates, reaching 100% in some European fisheries. The reduction of post-harvest losses (discards and by-products) by promotion of a full use of fishing captures is one of the main goals of EU fishing policies. As marine collagens are increasingly used as alternatives to mammalian collagens for cosmetics, tissue engineering, etc., fish skins represent an excellent and abundant source for obtaining this biomolecule. The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of chemical treatment concentration, temperature and time on the extractability of skin collagen from this species. Two experimental designs, one for each of the main stages of the process, were performed by means of Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The combined effect of NaOH concentration, time and temperature on the amount of collagen recovered in the first stage of the collagen extraction procedure was studied. Then, skins treated under optimal NaOH conditions were subjected to a second experimental design, to study the combined effect of AcOH concentration, time and temperature on the collagen recovery by means of yield, amino acid content and SDS-PAGE characterization. Values of independent variables maximizing collagen recovery were 4 °C, 2 hours and 0.1 M NaOH (pre-treatment) and 25 °C, 34 hours and 1 M AcOH (collagen extraction).

Abstract:
The company Rebtel wanted a new landing page that was aimed at international students. This page would be optimized for the target group in terms of both design and content. An investigation including interviews with the target audience, target user analysis and research were made. The investigation also consisted of interviews with various roles at the company Rebtel, to get an insight into their perspectives and tasks during this kind of process. Using the findings from these investigations sketches were made and a landing page was developed through the programming languages HTML5, CSS3, LESS, JavaScript, .NET and C#. The result was a landing page in three languages: English, French and Spanish. A special report with results from interviews and development was also delivered to Rebtel.

Abstract:
Today, web sites are important communication channels that reach a wide group of people. Measuring the effectiveness of these web-sites has become a key issue for researchers as well as practitioners. However, there is no consensus on how to define web site effectiveness and which dimensions need to be used for the evaluation of these web sites. This problem is more noteworthy for information driven web sites like academic web sites. There is limited academic literature in this predominant application area. The existing studies measured the effectiveness of these academic web sites by taking into account their information architecture mostly using think-aloud methodology. However, there is limited study on web analytics tools which are capable of providing valuable information regarding the web site users such as their navigation behaviours and browser details. Although web analytics tools provide detailed and valuable information, the existing studies have utilized their very basic features. In this thesis, we have explored web analytic tools and think-aloud study method to improve information architecture of web sites. Taking METU Informatics Institute web site as a case study, we have used the reports of Google Analytics which is a commercial web analytics tool owned by Google and think-aloud study results to improve the information architecture of our case study web-site.

Abstract:
In the creation of online marketing sites, it is common for the site to be well underway before any writers are introduced to the project. Sometimes writers are not introduced to the project until the site is actually designed and developed, the writer expected to add content after the fact and to an alien architecture. In the case of complex information systems, sometimes no writer is involved at all. In this chapter, the authors do three things. First, they make the claim that there are three kinds of writing demanded by the Internet: user-centric, persuasion-centric, and quality-centric. Together, they make up a package called “reader-centric writing.” Furthermore, the authors suggest that in writing for the prosumer, quality-centric and persuasion-centric are as common and perhaps more important than user-centric, and a competent professional writer thoroughly immersed in the skills necessary for producing the full spectrum of reader-centric writing should be involved in the production of these texts from the very beginning of the project. Secondly, toward supporting the above argument, the authors present examples in Complex and Complicated Information Systems (CCISs) where developers with an incomplete understanding of the issues discussed produce egregious problems that go unnoticed for years. Finally, based on the above claims, the authors show how excellent writers are in position to make valuable contributions to content quality, metadata quality, landing page optimization, search engine optimization, and return on investment, particularly when producing Websites for audiences as demanding as prosumers.
