Abstract:
This essay presents a theory of aesthetics for landscape gardening based on Karsten Harries’s theory of the ethical function of architecture. It begins with an attempt to understand Horace Walpole’s praise of William Kent’s contribution to the development of “the modern taste in gardening,” according to which Kent was largely responsible for achieving the progressive revolution in landscape architecture that produced the picturesque style of English landscape gardening. After examining Harries’s theory, the essay discusses whether landscape architecture can produce works of art and examines several historically-important garden styles to argue that it can. Finally, it discusses problems inherent in Modern and Postmodern landscape architecture.

Abstract:
Urban renewal urgently needs to find a new media tool to extensively promote public participation. Professionals also need strong and powerful communication tools for the public. Mass media has the ability to influence human perceptions and behaviors, but its role has been overlooked. This study aims to arouse professionals’ attention to mass media and promote interdisciplinary cooperation through empirical evidence. By observing the performance of participatory urban gardening projects in Chinese newspapers, we highlight the positive effect of mass media on participatory landscape revitalization. We selected two projects in China as samples, collected newspaper reports on them during 2017–2021, and analyzed the textual framing and report communication based on communication theory. According to the result, mass media has four positive effects that not only affect the public but also contribute to participatory landscape revitalization development. Based on the results, we discuss the consistence of views of the mass media and landscape architecture. This study suggests that landscape architecture needs to actively collaborate with public media to better leverage the role of landscape in sustainable urban transformation.

Abstract:
This work aimed to develop a schematic design of an orthodox church, based on complex prior design studies, with improved surrounding grounds. The church should meet orthodox canons and require-ments of modern architecture at the level of a general layout and a single object. To achieve this goal, the following methods were used: an on-site survey using geoinformation systems of the future con-struction site at Lake Sugomak in Kyshtym, Chelyabinsk region; a study of regulatory documents; a comparative analysis of religious architecture in Russia and abroad to determine the canons of Ortho-dox architecture; selection of an optimal solution based on a multivariate design with environmental improvement and landscape gardening of the surrounding grounds. Local conditions were examined, the traffic management and climate characteristics of the territory were determined. Owing to the in-struments of modern architectural science, a unique design solution of a minimalist church was elabo-rated, following all urban and architectural requirements. With the erection of a temple complex, which blends seamlessly into the landscape, the designed territory will acquire a compositionally complete and contemporary appearance. The architectural solution presented can be used in designing Ortho-dox temples in other regions of Russia, as well as in near- and far-abroad countries.

Abstract:
Historic gardens have the ability to provide several ecosystem services in cities, including provisioning services (i.e., food production). The historic gardens in Iran (known as “Persian Gardens”) have never been considered as places that could be used for food production. As a result, the purpose of this paper is to investigate whether the Iranian historic gardens’ spatial and structural layout is suitable for modern urban food gardening. We conducted field studies in six recognized Persian gardens in four provinces of Iran via qualitative analysis according to socio-cultural guidelines drawn from a literature review. The results suggested that combining the elements of formal landscape design, non-edible decorative plants, and traditional artwork would increase the Persian gardens’ attractiveness. Regarding encouraging users to become involved in urban gardening, we found that separating productive units containing edible plants from public units using a central meeting spot populated by aesthetic plants and items may attract ordinary visitors who are interested in gardening without disturbing anyone’s activities. Furthermore, the Persian gardens’ multifunctionality, aesthetic value, and health-promoting qualities constitute a considerable historic achievement in garden design, making the gardens a suitable model for edible urban gardening. The results of this study can enhance our understanding of the Persian gardens’ spatial and structural design and provide practical implications for sustainable urban planning and landscape architecture.

The Study Program of Landscaping and Gardening (Program Studi Lanskap dan Pertamanan (LDP)), one of the study programs at SMKN 63 Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, needs guidance related to learning materials of landscape design. The purpose of providing landscape design materials for school members (teachers and students) is to increase the knowledge and skills of making landscape designs and optimize the function and beauty of the school's out space. It supports the behavior of the environmental awareness that the Adiwiyata program promotes. Community service activities in the form of socialization and training so that school members can design the landscape independently and distribute questionnaires to measure the level of achievement of the socialization and training were carried out. The case area to be designed is a corner garden in the front yard of SMKN 63. The activity results show that the participants' perceptions fall into the category of agreeing to strongly agree on the value of the benefits of the service material. Participants were very enthusiastic and active. Creativity and design making still need guidance. Evaluation in the following month shows the follow-up of the resulting design. This enthusiasm led to a cooperation agreement between SMKN 63 and a community service team from the Landscape Architecture Department, Faculty of Laskap Architecture and Environmental Technology, Trisakti University to foster school residents sustainably.

Abstract:
Abstract. The article explores the issues of the emergence and development of historical parks in Ukraine. There are four periods of formation and development of historical parks in Ukraine: the first ‒ from the times of Kievan Rus to the middle of the 17th century (the origin of park building), the second ‒ from the middle of the 17th century before the revolution of 1917 (construction of mainly private palaces and park ensembles), the third ‒ from 1918 to 1991 (soviet period), the fourth ‒ from 1991 to the present (the period of independence of Ukraine). The definition of the concept «historical park» is given. The park is a work of art. A unique situation in human practice: to create a living and perfect work of art at the same time. Gardens and parks provide this opportunity. The park is history. The historical park preserves and broadcasts this history to us ‒ it is an object of cultural heritage, our common heritage. Sometimes the park is also a museum-reserve and bears the function of preserving heritage. Historical gardens and parks often acquire the status of monuments. Monuments of landscape gardening art are historical and cultural monuments that organically include plants, landscape features (hills, water sources and waterfalls, stream or river valleys, stones, rocks, distant landscape perspectives, sometimes wetlands), architectural structures, sculptures, flower beds, etc. Historical parks of cities include palaces and manor complexes, botanical gardens, city parks and memorial parks, as well as parks-monuments. In total, there are 88 historical parks-monuments of landscape gardening art of national and 426 local significances in Ukraine. Parks-monuments of landscape gardening art of local importance include: parks of culture and recreation, arboretums, woodlands used as recreation parks, and other objects. In particular, in the Odessa region there are 22 parks-monuments, in the city of Odessa ‒ 5 parks-monuments of gardening art (T. Shevchenko Park, Dyukovsky Garden, City Garden, Victory Arboretum, Park named after Savitsky). The article highlights the main problems in the restoration work of historical parks and solutions. The history of the emergence and development of parks in Ukraine is analyzed. It was concluded that the historical parks are multifaceted and interesting not only for architectural ensembles, but also for their biocenosis.

Abstract:
The article considers the history of the creation and development of the Islamic garden, the characteristic features of landscape gardening art in the Islamic style through the prism of the development of ancient gardens of the Temurid period, in particular, on examples of gardens in Central Asia, Afghanistan and India, and other countries, including their perspectives development, as well as proposals for the creation of modern landscape design. Today, with the urbanization and the growth of cities, less territory remains for the green zone, therefore one of the main problems throughout the world is the preservation of the environment, and especially landscape architecture. Gardening art has come a long way and many masterpieces have been irretrievably lost. Today, all aspects of the history and development of Islamic-style gardens and parks are still not disclosed. For this reason the issue of studying traditional Islamic-style gardens and, of course, reviving the traditional park-building culture of the Temurids and Baburids era was raised in Uzbekistan to create a green environment of historical sites and national parks. As a result of the research, the following were considered and identified: the history of the development of Islamic landscape design, the types of gardens in the Islamic style, the history of the creation of various gardens, their names, planning and compositional solutions, characteristic features, decorative techniques for building gardens in Central Asia, Afghanistan, India, technical and water devices used in the Temurid Gardens, as well as the importance of the Temurids dynasty in creating gardens and parks in Afghanistan and India. The conducted research, the experience of designing and creating Islamic gardens in Central Asia, Afghanistan, India and other countries will allow using the recommendations aimed at creating a modern garden in the Islamic style not only in Uzbekistan, but in other countries.

Abstract:
The state of plantings of species and varieties of actinidia (Actinidia Lindl.) growing on the territory of the Uman National Horticultural University and their suitability for vertical gardening have been investigated and analyzed. It was found that in the green spaces of the university, a significant part was occupied by ornamental trees and shrubs, and plants of promising introduced species and varieties of the genus Actinidia Lindl. were used in landscaping much less common. It has been found out that it is possible to carry out landscaping of the walls of buildings in a short time in a lesser area, as well as isolate individual sections with hedges with the design of landscape gardening structures with the use of plants of new and promising introduced varieties of actinidia and landscape design instruments. The influence of the actinidia plants used in terms of varietal composition on the microclimate of the territory of the Uman NUS was assessed and recommendations were made on the working-out of theoretical proposals for landscaping and agrotechnological methods of growing maternal plants for interior in landscape gardening. It was cleared that the introduced species and varieties of the genus Actinidia Lindl. still remain rare in landscape architecture and forestry due to insufficient knowledge of the biological characteristics of plant growth and development in new cultivation conditions, agrotechnological measures for their own root propagation and cultivation of planting material. It is found that one of the effective methods of propagation of the studied varieties of actinidia in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe Zone of Ukraine is green stem cuttings — by semi-lignified cuttings with leaves. Green stem cuttings of the studied actinidia varieties have a low regenerative ability and are classified as medium-rooted. It has been established that the most important factors inducing the regenerative ability of cuttings and the quality of planting material are the dates of cuttings, the type of cutting and its metamerism, the agrotechnological conditions of rooting, as well as the preparation of cuttings for rooting and methods of treatment with biologically active substances of auxin nature. It has been find out that not all the varieties of actinidia are characterized by high regenerative capacity when rooted by stem cuttings under conditions of finely dispersed moisturizing.

Abstract:
The purpose of a service/learning project is two-fold: to gain skill in one's area of study and simultaneously to provide service to an unrelated community. This project provided such an educational opportunity for our Horticulture and Landscape Architecture students by providing the mechanism for them to develop and practice their skills of garden design, presentation, installation, and maintenance, while also providing a service to Oklahoma's fifth grade teachers and their students. Through their service, our students gained insight into the creation of public gardens, specifically ones for children. This project created a template through which elementary educators could then work with their communities to develop children's gardens at their schools. Our students presented gardening ideas via slides to fifth grade classes, geographically distributed throughout Oklahoma, and then surveyed them for their input into a garden designed for and by children. The survey accessed the needs and dreams of both the fifth grade students and their teachers. The children's and teachers' desires, as expressed in the surveys, were incorporated into garden designs by our students. A prototype of one of the children's gardens was then installed at the Oklahoma Gardening studio grounds with the help of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture students, OBGA Ambassadors (a group of horticulturally trained volunteers from the Greater Stillwater Community), and Oklahoma elementary school teachers, who sought to gain experience in garden installation in order to create a children's garden at their own schools. The processes, from conception through design and installation, and finally utilization for elementary education, were videotaped and incorporated into a “how-to” video and fact sheet, produced and made available through the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service (OCES).

Abstract:
Chinese men of letters pursued the idea of a poetic life in feudal times, and this ideal was often embodied in traditional gardening and landscape paintings. However, it has been argued that the pursuit of this traditional notion of poetic life has been lost with the arrival of modernity. In this view, Chinese cities are seen as losing their identities and becoming Westernised. Wang Shu, the Pritzker Prize-winning Chinese architect, has taken great efforts to rebuild an understanding of Chinese cultural identity: by looking back to the idea of poetic life reflected in traditional gardens and landscape paintings, and attempting to recompose a sense of poetry for contemporary architecture. This article aims to examine Wang’s approaches to this sense of poetry in one of his projects, the design of Xiangshan campus while, at the same time, seeking to offer a Chinese reflection on the architecture of poetry. However, Wang’s approach to using visual and metaphoric techniques in reviving the city’s poetic system can be questioned. His tactics, considered here in relation to the Xiangshan campus, arguably do not fully understand Chinese aesthetics, and do not pose fully a contemporary definition of the ‘sense of poetry’ in relation to the traditional Chinese mind. A holistic interpretation of architectural poetry should concern life, both as living and pleasure, material and spirit, rather than dealing primarily in visual composition. Nevertheless, his efforts in exploring Chinese-ness and his influence on Chinese architects remain highly significant.

Abstract:
Beyond aesthetics, the contemporary landscaping intends to provide other benefits for humans and environment, especially related to the environmental quality of urban spaces and conservation of the species. A trend in this direction is the reduction in the use of exotic plants in their designs, since, over time, they can become agents of replacement of native flora, as it has occurred in Rio Grande do Sul with many species introduced by settlers. However, the use of exotic species is unjustifiable, because the flora diversity of the Bioma Pampa offers many native species with appropriate features to the ornamental use. The commercial cultivation and the implantation of native species in landscaped areas constitute innovations for plant nurseries and landscapers and can provide a positive reduction in extractivism, contributing to dissemination, exploitation and preservation of native flora, and also decrease the impact of chemical products on environment. So, this work intends to identify native species of Bioma Pampa with features and uses similar to the most used exotic species at Brazilian landscaping. The species were selected from consulting books about native plants of Bioma Pampa and plants used at Brazilian landscaping, considering the similarity on habit and architecture, as well as characteristics of leafs, flowers and/or fruits and environmental conditions of occurrence and cultivation. There were identified 34 native species able to properly replace exotic species commonly used. The results show that many native species of Bioma Pampa have interesting ornamental features to landscape gardening, allowing them to replace exotic species that are traditionally cultivated.

Abstract:
The section of descriptive geometry «Perspective» is one of the main subjects in the preparation of students of specialization in «Architecture of buildings and structures». The modern architect needs to know all the subtleties of urban planning, landscape architecture, bulk design, design of small architectural forms, as well as interior design for the successful realization of creative potential and aesthetic perception. A complete picture of the expressive space gives an image constructed according to the rules of the perspective. Modern techniques and methods of visualization on the plane of space-spatial compositions appeared as a result of a long period of their development and perfection. The discovery of precise laws for the construction of a perspective has allowed architects, artists, and designers to more accurately depict on the plane the forms of the visible world. In modern practice it is impossible creation of interiors, articles of way of life without visualization and using of evident image. The complete picture of expressive space (interior, landscape, design) gives an image that is built on the rules of prospect. Proper use of the types and methods of perspective images, drawings of axonometric projections provide the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained to graphically interpret the solution of various tasks in various fields of activity and in many sciences. Using the laws of perspective allows you to enhance the expressiveness of the space, identify and emphasize its depth, or, conversely, visually reduce. Using perspective views is not limited to images on the plane (painting, graphics, relief). It is found in architecture, scenography, landscape gardening. The study of the «Perspective» section allows future professionals to create visual images that carry the maximum informative. And this can be achieved by applying different ways of constructing a perspective, depending on the geometric identity of the object and showing the kind of projected object from the real point of view taking into account the features of visual perception.

Abstract:
The artistic thought of traditional garden landscape design has an important influence on garden art, and architectural theory and gardening theory are also inextricably linked. In modern gardens, traditional architecture lacks applicability to the construction of garden painting environment. Based on the background of modern gardens today, this paper studies the landscape design approaches that have the effect of painting in modern gardens, in order to provide references for modern gardens design. Virtual reality technology mainly provides users with a three-dimensional image environment through the use of simulation methods, which can truly reflect the changes and interactions of operating objects, thus forming a virtual world and establishing a relationship between users and the virtual world, interactive virtual 3D interactive interface. Based on the comparison of mainstream engine systems, this paper selects a suitable virtual reality system based on the characteristics of garden landscape design. On this basis, it further studies and researches the functions of the engine system selected by the research institute and explores the virtual reality system that meets the characteristics of creating garden landscape engineering. In the real work process, a three-dimensional virtual environment of the garden landscape is finally selected, so as to lay a solid foundation for applying virtual reality technology to garden landscape design, and strive to gain an advantage in the application field of virtual reality technology in this industry. Traffic congestion and frequent traffic accidents have become a major obstacle to urban development, the use of intelligent transportation systems to solve urban traffic problems has become the consensus of managers, so this paper uses intelligent sensor technology to schedule traffic flow. Experimental results show that virtual reality technology mainly uses simulation methods to give users a personal experience. The density of green space corridors simulated by VR technology can be increased from 1.25 km/km2 to 2.41 km/km2, which is more than doubled, which significantly improves the connectivity of green spaces and effectively improves the ecological functions of green spaces. Engineers, owners, and the public can see the final design effect in real time from any angle and can also interact with the flowers and trees in the scene to understand the design concept of landscape architects more comprehensively, thereby enhancing publicity effect, to achieve fast and effective dissemination. It is beneficial for users to really participate in the project design. The application prospect will be very broad.

Abstract:
This article examines the problems of classification and establishment of administrative and legal regimes for the protection of various historical and cultural territories provided for by the legislation on the state protection of cultural heritage objects. As a result of the analysis of international legal acts, it is concluded that some provisions of the Russian legislation do not fully comply with international rules. The problem of legal regulation in terms of such territorial (planar) objects of cultural heritage as works of landscape architecture and landscape gardening is highlighted. Examples of a number of foreign countries with significant experience in establishing historical zones and cultural landscape protection are given. The indicated experience makes it possible to identify the redundancy of some provisions of the Russian legislation relating to historical settlements and historical and cultural reserves. The article offers the author's definition of historical and cultural territories, and also puts forward a number of proposals to change Federal legislation, in particular, to adjust the concept of a landmark and its types of objects, the legal regime of a landmark, to make changes to the legislation on museums- reserves, as well as to abolish the rules relating to historical and cultural reserves. The paper identifies promising areas for further research on this topic and ways to improve legislation on the protection of cultural heritage.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> In 17&amp;ndash;18th century, the spread of the image of the Qing Imperial Garden witnessed the cross-cultural exchanges and promoted the development of English Landscape Garden style. The reciprocal ‘far away foreign land’ between Chinese and British cultures and the influence of historical context had caused the discrepant view of European on Chinese gardens. This project focuses on the differences of cultural heritage values found in the two kinds of gardens: from the design of space and structure, poems and paintings representing designers' concepts, humanities factors, design conception, gardening elements and etc. Which hopes to fill up the gaps of relevant studies and stress the importance of documentation for gardens between the East and West. There are three aspects to illustrate the inner differences under the surface similarities between the two kinds of gardens. Firstly, the distortion and discontinuity through out the introduction and translation. This research attempts to cross-examine such an argument through an investigation into the journey to the West by the carrier of Chinese Imperial garden ideas. Then the meaning of ‘views of nature’ in the English Landscape Garden was inconsistent with the Chinese concept of ‘natural state of the world’. Thirdly, the differences of historical background, culture and values between the Qing Imperial Garden and the English Landscape Garden. All in all, this research could well invite a more factually-based understanding of the Sino-English architectural interactions as well as the Chinese contributions to the world architecture.</p>

Abstract:
According to one of the modern trends, botanical gardens located within the city limits should be their structural part not only in the territorial, but also in the functional aspect. Therefore, the purpose of the work is a scientifically based selection of representatives of the genus Hosta L. from the collection of the laboratory of ornamental plants of the Main Botanical Garden of the Russian Academy of Sciences (MBG RAS) — cultivars that are promising for use in urban landscape compositions and the development of various variants of flower compositions. The object of research is a sample of representatives of the genus Hosta from the collection of the laboratory of ornamental plants of the MBG RAS, containing 23 names. The composition of the sample population is formed on the basis of taking into account four criteria: 1) stability in culture; 2) belonging of varieties to different garden groups; 3) sufficient prevalence of the variety; 4) high coefficient of vegetative reproduction. Statistical processing of experimental data was carried out in accordance with classical methods using the program «STATISTICA Base». The development of models of flower beds is based on the methods and techniques generally accepted in the design of landscape compositions using the AutoCAD program. In the course of the conducted research, the selection of promising representatives of the genus Hosta for urban gardening was carried out and eight variants of flower compositions were proposed (rockery, 2 groups and 5 mixborders). It was found that in all the representatives of the genus Hosta recommended for use, the influence of genetic features dominates in the structure of variability of the studied quantitative characteristics, which provides a high probability of preserving the planned structure of flower compositions during the operation of the landscape architecture object.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the current state of the regulatory framework governing the valuation of cultural monuments, in particular, the Monetary Valuation of Monuments approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated September 26, 2002 No. 1447. The classification of conservation categories by a monument (national and local significance) and types of monuments (archeology, history, monumental art, architecture and urban planning, landscape gardening art, historical landscape, science and technology) is given. The main problem in determining the value of monuments is to take into account not only the material factors of the monuments and its degree of wear, but also the consideration of its intangible factors, such as its historical, social, artistic value, the presence of objects of decorative art. That is, the cost of buildings-monuments of cultural heritage is formed: – due to the cost of the material “carrier” (land with improvements in the form of buildings, structures, small forms, etc.); – due to the value of the contribution of the intangible asset to the carrier. The article also describes the main problems that arise when assessing such objects (the presence of a monument’s status, the lack of an information base on market transactions, high operating costs, the need for restoration work, and high investment risks). The factors raising and lowering the value of a cultural heritage monument are characterized. Based on the analysis of the current regulatory framework, it was decided to develop practical recommendations for determining the value of real estate – monuments of architecture and urban planning, in particular built-in premises.

Abstract:
Abstract The 17th century was a time of change in both agriculture and architecture as both nobility and newly rich bourgeois sought to embellish country residences with gardens and orchards. Not only were new plants arriving from overseas, but gardening was being revolutionised by the likes of Le Nôtre, de la Quintinie and the lesser known Fatio. This was reflected in the Dictionnaire universel de Antoine Furetière, the first genuinely encyclopaedic dictionary. This paper starts by introducing the LandLex initiative, pan-European synchronic and diachronic collaborative analyses of simple words concerning the landscape in historical dictionaries. We then look at a selected number of orchard trees and their fruit in two editions of the Dictionnaire universel: the first edition of 1690 and that revised by Basnage de Beauval in 1701. To an extent, Furetière applied a model for classifying trees and fruit that can be extracted by analysis. Some entries went into excessive detail as those of pear, a highly fashionable fruit at the time. One major difference between the two is Basnage’s move from a single author approach to the use of field experts in certain areas, amongst which botany. Much was simply carried over, but when Dr Régis, Basnage’s expert in medicine and natural history, deemed an entry of scientific interest it was given a rewrite with new background texts being cited, thereby widening our vision of developing 17th-century science.

Abstract:
The Millennium Development Goals and Agenda 21 objectives have generated international research initiatives in the emerging field of urban agriculture (UA); these efforts in productive growing and food production in the urban domain are gaining pre-eminence. UA was first coined in the 80s by agro-economists who recognized informal gardening practices in southern cities (Ba et all), but it no longer is uniquely associated to the South. UA includes a broad rage of activities: the cultivation of plants, medicinal and aromatic herbs, fruit trees, and the raising of animals, poultry and fish to support the household economy, the site's ecology, as well as social and cultural activities. Thus, UA cuts across multiple disciplines - such as development, urban geography, food security, city planning, landscape architecture, urban design, housing, farming and agronomy - all of which are touched upon by the academic and professional contributors in this special issue of Open House International.

Abstract:
Based on theoretical and experimental studies a long-term concept of the architectural and landscape layout and development of the Opir river valley space on a fragment between Carpathians settlements Skole and Grebeniv in the Lviv region was created. It has been confirmed that, as a result of significant natural features, the territories of the valley spaces in Carpathians differ from other localities and require a special approach in design solutions. Therefore, the methodological foundations of the architectural and landscape layout of the rivers valley spaces in Ukrainian Carpathians were developed. According to them, a thorough factor analysis of the territory on a given fragment was done, and analysis of the relationships between factors (multivariate) using the proposed matrix model of correlations between the factors of influence. As the next step the justification of the criterion assessment was done. Based on these researches the purposes of the space development are defined. They are the development of the territory as a transit representative zone, improvement of ecological friendliness and protection against technogenic threats. To achieve these goals some methods were proposed. In accordance with the principles of functional feasibility and sufficiency, environmental friendliness and architectural and landscape coherence to expand the tourist infrastructure in the projected area is impractical for sustainable development of the territory. Other purposed methods are: setting building restrictions to maintain buildings at a constant existing scale, removal a harmful function outside the valuable riparian areas, restoration of the natural zone on the place of removed industrial zones on riparian territories, preservation the use of the valley area for gardening, reinforcing the banks of the river with gabions, implementation a comprehensive renovation of the historical architectural heritage, allocation of the place for a tourists short-term stop.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the role of the French protectorate in the development of the greening system of major cities in Vietnam. The article presents political, economic and religious facts that influenced domestic policy in the field of urban planning and landscape architecture in the period from 1858 to 1954. The French protectorate period was an important milestone in the history of Vietnamese architecture. The French made significant changes to the construction art of Vietnam with its traditional wooden architecture. They built homes using new technologies such as mansard roofs, terraces, and balconies, and also used new materials for Vietnam - cement, steel, concrete, ceramic tiles, and slate. It is shown that in the initial period of French rule in Vietnam, only European traditions were used in architecture and Park construction, and after the 1st world war, with the acquisition of a certain negative experience, they began to take into account the traditions of local construction art and the climatic conditions of the region. A significant contribution of French specialists was made in the first attempts to select types of woody plants for urban gardening that meet the requirements of safety and street hygiene. French influence in the garden culture of Vietnam shifted the vector of development of this area of activity towards Europeanization. This is especially evident in the structure of urban squares and the ways in which plants were formed according to the laws of European topiary art, which required regular planning.

Abstract:
In the XVI century the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was characterized by two Sarmatian traditions the “knightly” and “landowner”. Starting from the 17th century it was fitting for a Sarmatian to be not only a brave knight with self-respect, but also to be a good homeowner, which ultimately led to the erasure of differences and the unification of these two Sarmatian traditions. Under the influence of the new worldview of the Baroque era and the dominant national ideology of Sarmatism in the territory of Galicia in the XVI-XVII centuries, using as a basis the model of the Italian Renaissance “Palazzo in Fortezza”, new templates of secular residential residences, which included fortifications, housing, and garden and park foundations, were formed, recognizable for the entire aristocratic stratum of the population. New ideas and principles have found their expression in architectural structures and in the methods of laying landscape objects. The palace, surrounded by fortifications, reflected the idea of “knightly” Sarmatism, while the opposite “landowning” ideas of Sarmatism were embodied in an ornamental garden, which reflected the traditional ideas about paradise, in which one could hide from the worries and difficulties of real life. The layout of secular residential residences with landscape gardening objects depended on several factors: place, time, authorship, functional purpose, preferences and financial capabilities of the customer. The article analyzes variants of conjugation of fortifications with garden and park establishments or a menagerie.

A new methodology for determination of the ornamental value of woody plants of the Pinoрhyta division is developed. According to their decorative features, gymnosperms may be divided into two groups: the group of morphological features directly forming the decorativeness of coniferous plants and the group of features which indirectly influences the decorativeness of plants. The first group includes seven characteristics: architectonics of the stem and crown, crown shape, length of kweenie crown, color of the needles, a profusion of discoverproven, cones color, the aroma of pine needles and cones. To the second group belong: winter hardiness, frost resistance and damaging of the coniferous plants. The 5-point scale has been developed for each of the ten characteristics of ornamental conifers. The total sum of which determines the degree of decoration of the species of Pinoрhyta division. In ontogeny of conifers by the example of Picea abies (L.) Karst., landscape architecture, design and the art of gardening can fully satisfy the morphological condition of the coniferous at the early, young and middle-aged generative stages. In this period the viability of individual species as its external condition (external view), as a rule, aesthetically and emotionally sublime positively perceived by the majority of passers-by or observers. These stages of ontogenesis conifers are characterized by rather high or even maximum decorative value.

Abstract:
After Rebecca Bushnell had taught a graduate course in 2017 dedicated to the early modern English discourse on nature and natural history, she realized the great need for a solid anthology of relevant texts, and the book under review represents the result of her extensive efforts to collect and edit important contributions by philosophers, mystics, and poets from late antiquity to the high and late Middle Ages, and especially from ca. 1500 until ca. 1700, addressing the following subject matters: 1. natural philosophy and natural knowledge; 2. plants; 3. animals; 4. weather, climate, and seasons; 5. inhabiting the land; 6. gardens and gardening; and 7. outlandish natural worlds. This is already an impressive gamut of important topics, but I am sorely missing aspects such as ‘water,’ ‘forests,’ ‘mountains,’ ‘birds,’ ‘fish,’ and then the inner (caves, volcanoes, etc.) and also the outer sphere, the stars, the planets, and the moon.

Abstract:
This paper presents particular aspects of educational function of the schoolyard, and argues that such a space could be used for educating the young generation, collaboration and interaction in creating the living environment. Research of Lithuanian schools’ architecture during the last few decades has indicated the practice of using the school courtyard that could be described as “Forgotten Space”. Education scholars pay exclusive attention to the interaction between learning and playing. Urban gardening, environmental monitoring, design-build studios become integral parts of secondary or even primary education. These activities need proper environment. The majority of Lithuanian youth attends schools built in the interwar and soviet periods that rarely fit the up-todate paradigm of education and spatial needs. This makes the school environment problematic but, at the same time, perfect as a transformation laboratory for communities as the non-generic “commissioners”, potential driving force of such actions. Architects, landscape architects, urban designers and planners occasionally look at the cooperation with communities as an obstacle or formal “must”. Since 2014, the Faculty of Architecture, VGTU, started to act as a catalyst activating discussions and alternative visions for changes of school spaces, mostly anticipating that the youth (students and school-children) involved would accustom themselves to active and constant co-creation and maintenance of their environment. The overview of the school grounds development in Lithuania during the last century was performed by consistent analysis of different functions. The study of each possible function of school outdoor area was done by applying the three-aspect correlation method: the education theory, legal building regulations and school environment practice. The study of school ground as the contemporary collectively developed playscape presented the results of experimental practices on participatory design and community engagement.

Abstract:
The article concerns the formation of the manor complex of Akhtyrka in the context of the development of Russian estate culture of the early XIX century. Based on textual and graphic materials, the author makes an attempt to clarify the features of the planning structure and the figurative and artistic originality of the estate, formed in the 1820s. The new manor complex was located on the picturesque steep slope of the left bank of the river Vorya, that was specially blocked to create very vast ponds, effectively edged with landscape and regular parts of the park. All elements of manor buildings corresponded to the style of late Moscow classicism, in particular, the architectural work of D. Gilardi. The central elevated part of the palace was crowned with a dome, and its garden façade was accented by a semi-secular terrace located in the center. Its northern facade was accented by a six-columned portico with a pediment decorated with the stucco coat of arms of the Princes Trubetskoy. On the north side, an extensive front yard was approaching the building, which in plan was close to the shape of a square. In its central part there was a pool with a fountain, around which roses and many other no less bright colors grew along symmetrically laid paths. The formation of the park fully met the general planning plan developed by one of the outstanding masters of landscape gardening art. On the lithographs dated 1st half of the XIX century by an unknown artist called “View of the village of Akhtyrki, owned by Prince Ivan Nikolaevich Trubetskoy. From Moscow - 60, and from Khotkovo in 3 versts ” this newly created complex is represented by picturesque ponds. Here we find their asymmetric shores, elegantly drawn, the bridge, the vast landscape park, the alleys and the very long volume of the main manor house, which rises spectacularly over the entire surrounding area. In front of the southern facade of the main house, a vast meadow was built on the relief smoothly lowering to the ponds. Near the building itself, birch trees flanked it, and from the east and west there were straight avenues planted only with lindens. At the coastline, we notice asymmetrically planted cypress trees together with shrubs. In 1924, the manor house burned down, which entailed the complete liquidation of the estate complex.

Abstract:
Sochi "Dendrariy" is a well-known tourist site, an example of landscape art, a scientific center for the introduction of subtropical plants on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. The park was founded in 1892 and is famous for its arboretum collection. The symbolism of the historical part of the "Dendrariy" is also interesting. The park was created as a private property, and showed the interests, views and preferences of its founder. It was not intended for the general public. The founder of the park, S.N. Khudekov, was a versatile person, an expert in gardening, choreographic and fine arts. He successfully used the highly artistic fountains, sculptures and vases of A. Durenne, inscribing the heritage of French culture in his romantic park. Therefore, sphinxes, chimeras, zodiac signs, gods of ancient Roman mythology could be seen in the Russian Caucasus at the end of the XIX century. The author's interpretation of the semantics of various elements of park sculpture and architecture, regarding various theosophical views of secret societies is given in the article. The meaning of such symbols and signs is diverse, as shown by previous studies. The connection of the objects of study with each other in space and their orientation relative to the sides of the light turns attention. The author does not exclude an accidental coincidence, since there is no information about the founder of the park belonging to Freemasonry. The preserved park is rightfully an object of historical and cultural heritage. He is able to create a certain mood, evokes themes for philosophical reflection as a true work of art. A certain preparation of the audience-listeners is required to perceive the information transmitted by the work of art, in accordance with the above.

Abstract:
Problem. Due to the rapid trend of growth and spread of vertical landscaping in landscaping of settlements in Ukraine, studying woody lianas is quite active. There is almost no information on the bioecological features of woody lianas in conditions of our region and their use in landscaping of urban areas. Therefore, the aim of the work was to summarize the introduction of woody lianas in the Kryvyi Rih Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, to analyze the current state of vertical landscaping in Kryvyi Rih, to find out the range of plants used and to prove the possibilities of its expansion. Methods. The distribution of introduced woody lianas by origin was carried out according to A.L. Takhtadzhyan . Assessment of viability was performed by the scale of viability of shrubs modified on the basis of the classification by Z.I. Luchnyk. Estimation of drought resistance of lianas was made by the scale of S.S. Piatnytskyi , winter hardiness was estimated on the scale adopted for botanical gardens of the USSR. Results and conclusions For Kryvyi Rih, one of the promising areas in the creation of modern landscape and architectural landscaping of the city is vertical landscaping based on twisted plants. The source for enrichment of the range of plants for urban area landscaping is the collections of the botanical garden. The introduction of woody lianas in the Kryvyi Rih Botanical Garden began in 1983. Today, the collection fund includes 31 species and 42 cultivars, representing 15 genera and 13 families. We determined that the phenorhythmics of the introduced species is consistent with the climatic conditions of the Right-Bank Steppe Dnieper Area, most of the species bloom annually, bear fruit, have high living conditions and decorativeness. Most woody lianas introduced in the KRBG are quite drought-resistant (they scored point I by Piatnytskyi scale), they tolerate short periods of drought without significant morphological changes (species of the genera Wisteria, Campsis, Celastrus, Parthenocissus, Vitis, Ampelopsis). Lower drought resistance (drought resistance scores point II) in species of the genera Lonicera, Actinidia was manifested by the loss of turgor in the leaves, which was restored during the night, and partial yellowing of the leaves. Groups of introduced woody lianas were selected according to the method of attachment to the support and the degree of decorativeness. A survey of the urban areas of Kryvyi Rih revealed that the range of woody lianas used is represented by 10 species and 7 cultivars from 10 genera and 10 families. According to the results of studying morpho-biological, ecological properties and decorative qualities, it is recommended to introduce Aristolochia manshuriensis, Akebia quinata, Celastrus flagellaris, Celastrus orbiculatus, Lonicera caprifolium, Wisteria sinensis more widely in landscaping of urban areas.

Abstract:
The paper raises the issue of the variety of flower decoration in settlements, as a result of the study revealed the main factors on which the quality of flower beds depends. The most optimal forms of flower garden design were found. The modern tendencies of formation of various kinds of flower and ornamental compositions used in design of modern interiors are analyzed, historical preconditions of ornamental and forest gardening, vegetable growing, new directions of cultivation of ornamental plants, actual aspects of flower registration are discussed. The need to use houseplants in interiors is justified. It was found that when designing flower beds, it is necessary to take into account the laws of composition and color, choose the range of flowering and ornamental plants, taking into account the continuous flowering from early spring to late autumn. The purpose of the study: to identify the main types of floral design that are used most often. It is determined that the main elements of floral and decorative design are: regular flower arrangements and flower beds, landscape and abstract compositions and exhibition and exhibition objects. The following problems are outlined in the paper: variations of decoration, types of club plants, landscaping tasks, history of flower plants. The floral design of cities which gives fast and effective aesthetic result, modern tendencies of use of flower-decorative compositions are considered: rationality and expediency of an arrangement, creation of bright accents in a city landscape. The bulk of flower arrangements are concentrated in the city center, residential centers, places to visit — parks, gardens, squares, etc. Floral decoration of the urban environment is subject to the laws of color, composition, floristics, sanitary and hygienic requirements. It is presented that the introduction of elements of beauty and naturalness into the urban landscape is achieved by the type of natural, in which the compositional solution and range of plants are similar to natural. The natural motifs include flowering and ornamental deciduous plants in combination with components of the natural landscape (rocky materials of rock and boulder types, ponds, natural geoplastics, garden forms of picturesque configuration). It is revealed that the complex solution of flower design in the architectural environment takes into account: stylistic architectural solution of buildings and structures, the nature of facades, their color scheme, color, compositional and design features of small architectural forms, urban design elements, material and color of pavement, etc.
