Full textIn Madagascar, the social representations of language skills and academic achievement commonly assume a direct causal link between the language skills of students and his academic results. Understanding the factors affecting academic trajectories of Malagasy high school students requires considering the complex existing relationships between language, knowledge and teaching practices. On top of language issues, transmission and appropriation of knowledge methods, and access to knowledge are key factors to understand and analyze learning dynamics. The present work investigates these "teaching strategies" in relation with school characteristics, students and teacher’s background and origin, language role, oral and written cultures. Comparing linguistic representations, language practices and knowledge transmission procedures in Antananarivo and Mahajanga highlights how strong regional education inequalities are maintained

Full textIf some obstacles exist as far as French learning in Madagascar is concerned, they definitely do not originate from the opacity of the signifier since the French language was introduced in Madagascar more than one century ago. Thus, the problem of most Malagasy-speaking pupils and students does not only apply to linguistic system even though the competence in this level is often seen as an obvious gap. However, it could as well be related with culture which results from a complicated system of elements in interaction. This research is based on a survey conducted on the students in Faculté des Lettres et Sciences Humaines at the University of Antananarivo. The survey revealed, among other things, that the complex rapport which the learner has with school, with knowledge, with the present languages, with the set of values in societies, with the others, with the world in general, could, in the case, present itself as a factor which blocks or – on the contrary – as a factor which favours learning

Full textThis research work deals with the survey of the language used by young diggers (aged from 1 7 to 20) of the public dump of Antananarivo. It aims at exarnining the motivations that induce the lexical and linguistic choices in their own description and viewpoints of the conditions in which they live. lts main interest is to determine the way this language of marginalized young people convey emotions and different kinds of sentiments concerning various issues, including education, tradition and beliefs, socio-affective links, etc. A gender based lexical survey is also carried out with a view to contributing to the description of the current sociolinguistic situation of Madagascar. On the other hand, a study of shared social and cultural values and representations conveyed by this langage is conducted to examine influencing factors of the young dump diggers'behaviours and personalities. For instance, sometimes the complex relationship between tutelary authority and tsiny (common waming and censorship) is viewed as a positive concept encouraging persona! development and sometimes it is thought to be the cause of , marginalized young people's behavioural inhibition or excessive caution, as regards· their wishes for self-emancipation or social and professional integration. The opposing symbolic and psycbological or socio-identitary values of the public dump and the friendly or bannonic social integration territory, that the community represents, are studied in order to bring out elues as food for thought in order to set up social and professional integration polkies in favour of marginalized young people

Full textThis research work aimsat explaining how the evolution of a ociety some pressure on its information system, mainly on the bibliological circuits and structures (as far as the editorial production is concerned) and on the bibliographical ones (particularly the conception of national bibliographies). The study has been implemented to some periods of the malagasy history. In this way, we have ended up with a model of national bibliography that may be called "a dominated model", of which the national editorial production is not the only component. It appears under various aspects : the precolonial sub-model, the colonial one, the neo-colonial one and the one of an independance endeavour

Full textFrench is the second official language and the main language of opening on the world in Madagascar however only a quarter of the population is likely able expressing in French. The objective of this research is to show that this situation could be improved thanks to using newsgroup which will allow apprehending the language and the culture in situation, including the “francophonie”. According to the cross-cultural approach used as theoretical reference, cultures cannot be apprehended any more on the only register of the abstraction but require a contextualized step implying the speakers themselves. From this point of view, newsgroup proves to be an interesting opportunity insofar as they make it possible to achieve a double goal: a better knowledge of cultures and an improvement of competences of communication. The thesis is registered within the framework of a research-action

Full textAs a very technical and old fashion language that makes use of terms and phrases drawn from a foreign mind frame by the craft of History, the Malagasy law speech is hardly accessible to the population, though it has been intended to him. Consequently, it is not rare that justice decisions are barely executed, or even not at all, by the receivers who just do not understand what they are supposed to do. Hence, very serious prejudices come up for him/her whose sole guilt is not to understand neither French law speech due to amadel of thought that is far away from his own, nor official Malagasy law speech mould on the French madel with a thematic structure based on a logic system which is at the straight opposite of his/her way of thinking. This work is a contribution to modernize some old fashion terms still found in the Malagasy law speech on one hand, and on the other hand to modify the structure of the justice decision texts in order to fit Malagasy people's own mind frame. This should hopefully make Malagasy law speech much more understandable for the people, and by this way, to improve their relationship with Justice, so that the institution to fully play its role of a social regulator leading to a sustainable and integral human development

Full textThe culmination of this work is to show the scientific capacity of the Malagasy language, which can be used as a teaching medium in non-language subjects. Thus, the use of neologism methods as a teaching tool that is appropriate to the Malagasy culture has been undertaken in the terminology work. The basic corpus of research lies in the area of geography as a crossroads of knowledge and basic socialization to any individual, according to experts. Moreover, adapting the Malagasy education to the Malagasy context, “Malagasization” would not be possible without the establishment of the official Malagasy language enriched with its dialect variations that, in turn, would be the result of terminological research in all areas of education. Therefore, this thesis is advancing an emergency avenue towards a serene language development in education. Hence, a strong and effective partnership between a body in charge of a terminology database and policy makers would be a mandatory requirement in order to establish the Malagasy language within a viable language policy in education, with a view to a sustainable development of Madagascar faced with technological and scientific innovations

Full textThis present work is delicate but imperative, because so before, one used the traditional culture like an instrument of destruction, a such mortal poison, like an object of war and a weapon of conquest (means of oppression par excellence at the time of colonization), one can use it very well as antidote in the fights against the evils of the company that Madagascar, the national and international organizations carry out currently together. The traditional culture, the Malagasy statutory values are bases often ignored by the world of the economic operators and the agents of development in Madagascar while the child becomes a source of profit on the planet ground. The present thesis is an alarm bell for the protection of the children, first victims and often last recipients of technical progress and modernity. The objective of any educational action should make children, as of their youth, of the full citizens and the persons in charge able to ensure their duties and to face the life. It is a useful criticism and teaching, information, research task for any person attached to the socio-economic development of Madagascar: the place of the child and the role of imaginary "open a vast field of research which will not be concluded from so early. It is a long-term job which asks for the participation of all, because one does not manage to build only a house. It is a tranon-dandy ka ao anatiny vao manatevina, (cocoon of silk which thickens interior in itself). We wish that more one be able to benefit from it fully. May Madagascar ensure its durable development socio economic at a reasonable and assured speed. May the children have roots, wings and reference marks to go towards the adulthood and an assured future. Can these future human resources remain with the shelter of the defects of the adults.
