Abstract Introduction Automatically identifying specific phenotypes in free-text clinical notes is critically important for the reuse of clinical data. In this study, the authors combine expert-guided feature (text) selection with one-class classification for text processing. Objectives To compare the performance of one-class classification to traditional binary classification; to evaluate the utility of feature selection based on expert-selected salient text (snippets); and to determine the robustness of these models with respects to irrelevant surrounding text. In the literature on Null Subject Languages (NSLs) since Rizzi (1982), the three properties that are commonly thought to be connected are (i) the richness of inflectional morphology, (ii) free subject inversion, and (iii) the COMP-trace effect. The connection between them is that if a language (e.g., Italian) has the option of having a null subject (NS) pronominalproin subject position (i.e., SpecIP) as a result of having rich inflectional (i.e., verbal agreement) morphology, as represented in (1a), then the same element may appear in the same position in cases of subjects occurring postverbal

The present study investigated the process of accessing gender information when producing inanimate nouns in Hebrew. The Picture Word Interference paradigm was used to manipulate gender congruency between target pictures and spoken distractors. Naming latency and accuracy were measured. The gender congruency effect has been tested in various Indo-European languages, with mixed results. It seems to depend on both language-specific attributes and the syntactic context of the utterance. Speakers’ insensitivity to gender congruency was observed at 3 SOAs (Experiment 1a–1c). This article describes the class of Italian frozen sentences that are defined by the relation N0 V (1C di N) = N0 V C1 a N2. These sentences are represented in a matrix table named CAN where each entry has ben analysed on the basis of distributional and transformational properties. This study has taken into account the complex net of relations among frozen sentences, sentences with support verbs, predicative nouns, compound words. The analysis of the class CAN has also shown the regularity of the syntactic behaviour of frozen sentences.

Abstract In languages exhibiting the Ezafe construction, such as Modern Persian, nominal modifiers generally follow the noun, and a large class of nominal modifiers, including APs, NPs, some PPs, but not relative clauses, require a “linking” element, referred to as Ezafe. Thus in (1a), the noun otaq ‘room’ is modified by the adjective phrase besyar kuchik ‘very small.’ The Ezafe vowel e appears in between, suffixed to the noun. In (1b), the noun xune ‘house’ is followed by a restrictive PP, kenar-e cfa:rya ‘on the beach.’ The two are connected by Ezafe, which also appears internally, between t
