This work is a study on the phenomenon of monumentality. It combines examples and theories from art and architecture and seeks to explore its counterparts in the context of visual communication and graphic design. The project focuses on forms and materials of culturally inherited power and explores how these aspects of monumentalism could be used as a design tool. Grice (1982) and Bar-On and Green (2010) each provide 'continuity stories' which attempt to explain how a human-like language could emerge from the primitive communication practices of non-human animals.
