Successful communication between military pilots and air traffic controllers is vital for ensuring the safety and efficiency of aviation operations. While linguistic competence is fundamental, efficient communication in this context transcends mere language proficiency. The research study explores some contemporary under-researched theoretical and practical issues regarding the acquisition of the military aeronautical English language and establishes a strong correlation between aviation linguistic competence and interactive, cross-cultural and professional competence. Miscommunication in the cockpit or between pilots and air traffic controllers (ATCs) could be fatal when they use English, the de facto language for international civil aviation. To ensure air safety, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has set up English proficiency requirements in Document 9835, calling for adherence to standardized terminology in aeronautic communication. For this reason, terminological competence proves a crucial challenge to non-native speakers of English and merits study from a variety of perspectives. Language confusion is a frequent cause of pilot error. Although English was made the common language of world aviation in 1951, miscommunication and crashes in which communication was a contributing factor are common. Standard phrases used by air traffic controllers in the United States contain numerous confusing elements. These include ambiguities, misnomers and illogicalities. Phrases are not derivations of a master plan as they should be. The inability of English to express specific directions to pilots without confusion disqualifies it as a language for permanent use by aviation.

Pilots and air traffic controllers must demonstrate their ability to listen and speak the language used in radiotelephony communications demonstrated by completing a language test. In this context, it is crucial to assess both interactive listening, when listening occurs together with speaking, and listening in isolation, when there is no speaking or interaction. The purpose of assessing listening in isolation is to reduce the influence of skills that are not relevant to the construct, that is, to minimize construct irrelevant variance (S. Messick 1994). Voice communication is the main channel to exchange information between pilots and Air-Traffic Controllers (ATCos). Recently, several projects have explored the employment of speech recognition technology to automatically extract spoken key information such as call signs, commands, and values, which can be used to reduce ATCos’ workload and increase performance and safety in Air-Traffic Control (ATC)-related activities. Nevertheless, the collection of ATC speech data is very demanding, expensive, and limited to the intrinsic speakers’ characteristics. As a solution, this paper presents ATCO2,

Aviation industry is growing at an enormous rate and highly sophisticated set of technologies are employed for achieving safety in aircraft operations. Though enormous efforts have been made to improve aircraft technologies, maintenance facilities, airports, and navigation aids, the industry still suffers from the aviation safety problems in other words tragic air accidents. One of the underlying problems leading to this problem is miscommunication. Communication problems, especially between pilots and air-traffic controllers, have a crucial role in the number of fatal air accidents. These pro

Voice communication between air traffic controllers (ATCos) and pilots is critical for ensuring safe and efficient air traffic control (ATC). The handling of these voice communications requires high levels of awareness from ATCos and can be tedious and error-prone. Recent attempts aim at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into ATC communications in order to lessen ATCos’s workload. However, the development of data-driven AI systems for understanding of spoken ATC communications demands large-scale annotated datasets, which are currently lacking in the field.
