Full textThe work submitted to your attention elaborated from the structural approach, is a synchronic descriptive study of ewondo, a bantu language (a72a) which belongs to guthrie's beti-fang group. The first part (chap. 1-8) dealing with the phonology and morphophonology states structural rules and classifies segmental and tonal units of language into a system. The second part (morphology) gives an inventory and classification of different grammatical units (title i, chap. 910). It analyses augment, prefixes, dependant and independant nominals (title ii, chap. 11-15). Finally, the title iii, chap. 16-18) dealing with verbal morphology, examines grammatical suffixes which are added to radicals in order togenerate simple verbal bases, which in turn, may drive extended and biextended verbal bases. The third and last part -syntax- (chap. 19-22) examines, through predicative schemes the various functions that different types of noun and verb phrases fullfill. . It also presents verbal constituents taking part in verb flexion. The work establishes the main rules structuring the ewondo language and explaining its mechanism. Full textJudging from the number of studies carried out in the area, there is no gainsay that sociolinguistics is fast gaining ground in Cameroon. Our topic: “Linguistic practices, language status and interactions among speakers in Douala markets” raises some questions, particularly those on the management of communication among speakers sharing different languages and cultures, operating in the markets of the economic capital: Douala. How do so many national languages, in contact with French, behave in a setting of daily commercial transactions? Looking on this issue using Louis Jean Calvet’s “acacia” method, we show that the Cameroonian version of French, pidgin-English and camfranglais are dominant languages spoken in markets in Douala. We have however noticed that owing to generation gap, speakers opt more for camfranglais to the detriment of pidgin-English. The multilingualism of Cameroonians, as we have seen, prompts us to assert that though French is their dominant language, Cameroonians are attached to their mother tongue. They use Cameroonian French, camfranglais and their national languages to identify themselves. This is what we call diglossia embedded in a dominant but minority language bilingualism (as seen among the traders) and in a dominant but majority language bilingualism (among the clients). It is difficult to talk about the quality of interactions without due allusion to politeness which poses serious problems both in market and public places. In our markets, however, questions relating to health are far more predominant than greetings like “bonjour” at the opening of a speech. Expressions of thanks, wishes and projects, which are automatic in France for example, are more or less scarce in Cameroon markets. If one can hear some expressions of thanks and projects like “merci à demain” or “à samedi pour le déballage”, those of wishes such as “bonne journée” or “bon week-end” are almost inexistent and identify those who utter them either as being learned or as coming from abroad. In conclusion, the dominant languages used in markets are languages of urban communication. The national languages spoken in the markets serve to identify the speakers. Multilingualism as portrayed by Cameroonians in markets, the embedded diglossia we just underscored are evidence to the fact that far from being a factor of division, such multilingualism enables each linguistic and cultural identity, not only to express itself but to reach out to others for a full bloom of individual identities

Full textTikar is a bantoid language spoken in cameroon. This description includes a resume of the phonology (the phonological system was described in detail in an earlier project) and a detailled study of the morphosyntaxe, including utterance types, verb and noun phrases, pronouns, adjectives, deictics, numerals, adverbs, nominalized verbs and relation words (prepositions, etc. ), as well as derivation and composition (still very productive processes), independant and dependant clauses, and finally, the various means by which the constituants of an utterance are topicalized and focalized. Tikar has 27 consonant phonemes, which can be arranged according to five points of articulation: labio-velar, labial, alveolar, palatal and velar, and to according four modes of articulation: stops (voiceless, voiced, implosive), fricatives (voiceless, voiced), nasals (syllabic, non-syllabic) and liquids. As for the vowels, there are 8: four front vowels and four back vowels; with four phonological tones (two punctual tones: high low and two modulated tones: low-high high-low). The tense-aspect system is described in terms of perfectif, imperfectif and perfect. There is a noun class system, but in the present state of the language, it bears little ressemblance to that normally found in bantu languages. Since there is no clear-cut series of noun prefixes, the nouns are classed according to the identifier ("it is a. . . ; they are. . . ") they take. Using this system the nouns fall easily into six classes, which can be paired to form eight genres. The noun class concord system affects the possessifs, the demonstratifs, the pronoun substitutes, the relative pronouns, the copulas, the presentatives, the numerals and the adjectives. Full textƁaka is an Ubangian language of the Niger-Congo language family. The grammatical description is based on a text corpus that was collected during fieldwork in the department of Haut Nyong in the East Province of Cameroon. The corpus consists of recordings (1h and 36 min) of spontaneous speech, which were annotated in Toolbox, Elan and Praat and then analyzed from a structuralist-functionalist perspective. The thesis is divided into three parts. Part 1 contains the introduction and the phonological analysis. Part 2 is dedicated to defining the word classes. As Ɓaka is a language with little morphology, the following 15 word classes were identified through syntactic criteria: verb, noun, relational noun, personal pronoun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, numeral, predicator, preposition, subordinator, coordinator, interjection, onomatopoeia and modal. For each of these defined word classes, a study of their forms and functions is presented. Part 3 deals with the syntax of Ɓaka, more precisely with the noun phrase, the verb phrase and non-verbal predication, which are the fundamental structuring units of this language. Non-verbal predication encompasses both the use of non-verbal predicators as well as constructions that contain no dedicated predicators and are based on two juxtaposed elements, whose characteristic features are analyzed in detail. Part 3 is also concerned with complex sentences. It examines coordinating and subordinating connectors as well as topicalization and focalization strategies, which reflect hierarchical relations in the sentence. Full textIn the ways of communication in Cameroon comes up a problematic about the pre-eminence of debates about official languages and the decline of national languages. The consequence of this situation is the deterioration of endogenous forces. With more than 260 units of language, Cameroon shows the image of a Tower of Babel. To this number must be add French and English, languages of the two former representative powers. So as to understand this situation, the first part will analyze the components of a plan which goes through the setting up of an “organic community” of which the original aspect belongs to the fact that it is initially based on the preliminary use the French language. In the second part, we will determine the nature of the links which appear between the problematic of the cohabitation of national languages (dialects) and the French in Cameroon. The study is based essentially on two languages : german and ewondo, a language of south-cameroon. After a brief presentation of the languages of south-cameroon and particularly of ewondo, the study begins by analysing the nature of speech acts and classifying them ; it then attempts to determine the structure of a speech act and to propose a new typology after critically presenting the typologies proposed by wunderlich and g. Hindelang. The analysis of the mode of expression of different subtypes retained from the new typology is then minitely conducted on the basis of examples drawn from a corpus indicated at the beginning of the study. Full textThis work presents the results of the application of the comparative method to data obtained from personal field work on a set of dialects in a language continuum. Through the establishement of regular correspondences, hypothesis are developped concerning the phonemic and grammatical features on an original proto-gbaya. The methodology, which draws on the work of M. Guthrie and G. Manessy, allows reconstruction of the lexical and grammatical tones of the protolanguage and accounts for an increase in the number of registers from two to three in some of the present-day languages. An earlier morphological alternance in nouns, now lost, can also be detected. A synthetic statement of the phonemic system and a grammatical sketch of the protolanguage are provided, together with a distributioin into genealogical subgroups. Suggestions are made concerning the probable living conditions of proto-gbaya speakers. The work also contains an ethnographic introduction, a comparative glossary with 1031 items, and a catalog of 900 reconstructed items

Full textThe use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in second language training is offered today as a panacea in attaining communication objectives.Therfore, in the second language (English for francophones and French for anglophones) teaching/learning process teachers in the Yaoundé bilingual linguistic pilot training center (in Cameroon) use arteacts such as audio equipements, video and online ressources to present the information ; adopting framework and support modalities in a view to reduce cognitive overloading due to decipling activity. These techno pedagogic tools with cognitive potentials (Karsenti and al, 2007) play and mediatisation role (Peraya, 1999). In such a context learners habe to call for their senses(auditive, visual) and develop strategies in oder to decipler, transcribe, and transform information into operational knowledge that could offert hem language skills (writting, speaking, listening, readind the second language).Our work aims at analysing the teaching (pedagogic or didactic), and learning activities (cognitive) and bring out psychoaffective and cognitive process put in place to achieve a communication competence in a multimedia tolls usage context.Data collection methodology center around the observation of daily classroom practices and two questionnaires for learners and teachers. With such tools quantitative and qualitative data have been collected and treated.We can keep in mind that in the teaching process, teachers put in place inciting style to attaind their curricular objectives. Moreover mobilised artefacts such as the official textbook (essential tool), related audio/video extracts as well as other ressources from the Internet are complementary and facilitate language skills acquisition, namely listening, speaking and/or writting.Nevertheless it has been noted that the use of audio-visual digital extrats learners face some phonological difficulties. It is therefore necessary to recommend that teachers should adapt teaching aids to learners socio-anthropological environment especially in lower classes to reduce cognitive charge.These work has permit us to put in evidence a variety of didactic approach which permitted learners to mobilize the scheme of actions (cognitive process) and transform information, in vision to mastering language skills.Key works : Teaching/learning process, activities, artefacts, language skills, cognitive and didactic analysis

Full textThis dissertation is presenting a linguistic classification based on phylogenetic methods borrowed from biology. The sample of languages considered here belongs to the Bantu family, a linguistic sub branch of Niger-Congo languages spoken in Africa. Numerous publications have shown a complexity and the diversity of Bantu languages. Our study focus on the North-West region which includes the following countries: Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo and Democratic Republic of Congo. This new classification is based on the comparison of lexical items. We have organized a database including 100 words from the basic vocabulary for 207 languages. Several tree representations were obtained by using Neighbor-Joining (Saitou and Nei, 1987) and Neighbor-Net (Bryant and Moulton, 2004) algorithms.This study allows us to get a better understanding of the linguistic proximity of these languages. It also provides a historical scenario for Bantu migrations

Diop's scientific works devoted to the reconstruction of african peoples'history, the thesis defends the reality of close and multi-faceted historical relations, a common cultural foundation and continuum and genetic linguistic relationship between the basa people, a bantu group of southern cameroon, and the ancient pharaonic civilization of egypt and nubia, in terms of common homeland rather than diffusion. As a result of a multi-disciplinary approach, this argument is based on a large body of concordant proof and evidence such as striking cultural and linguistic features provided by various sources, ethnonymy, toponymy, oral traditions, comparative mythology, history, comparative linguistics, archaeology, saharan prehistorical art, textual criticism and egyptology. The study is divided into three parts. Firstly, the history and geography of contacts which reveal populations on the move, both within the general framework of the peopling of the nile valley and subsaharan africa and the special one of bantu migrations. Secondly, comparative linguistics where the author, first of all, avails himself of the writings of some precursors, linguists and egyptologists (k. Meinhof, j. Capart, r. Cottevieille-giraudet, h. P. Blok, f. Daumas, etc. ), but hardly mentioned in literature, to justify the comparison between ancient egyptian and modern african languages and then, makes clear his method, quite different from th. Obenga's and j. Greenberg's, which combines direct and indirect comparison (through proto-bantu data) while establishing regular correspondences from a large corpus consisting of basic, cultural and special vocabularies. The convincing results achieved (both lexical and grammatical) turn out to be far more important than those usually referred to for a close egyptian-semitic relationship, and consequently question the pertinence of the so-called afro-asiatic family as well as the alleged absence of vowels in hieroglyphic writing. Thirdly, civilization features and ways of thinking (techniques, institutions, leisure, etc. ) where numerous parallels are drawn and close relationships put forward (common queen's name in meroitic and basa : kandake / kindak, iron metallurgy, health care, political and legal systems, coronation rites, cosmovision, with characteristic symbolic figures such as the human-headed bird and the falcon-headed lion

Full textDans ce travail, j’apporte par le biais d'une approche historique et comparative des éléments susceptible d’expliquer, d’une part la complexité qui caractérise le peuplement du Faro et, d’autre part, la façon dont le peuplement de cette région a évolué au cours du dernier millénaire. Il est également question de faire progresser la réflexion méthodologique, en évaluant la façon dont les modèles obtenus par l’archéologie peuvent être confrontés avec ceux qui se basent sur les traditions orales, les éléments de la culture matérielle actuelle et la linguistique.
L’étude des traditions orales a permis de classer par ordre chronologique les éléments historiques importants et d’établir une histoire du peuplement durant ces derniers siècles. Elle confirme qu’il est possible de reconnaître des racines remontant au delà du 19ème siècle à la plupart des groupes qui peuplent encore la région aujourd’hui, ainsi que de nombreuses ruptures dans l’histoire du peuplement du Faro. Contrairement aux travaux antérieurs, la plus importante de ces fractures date du début du 19ème siècle, avec l’occupation des conquérants foulbé, qui ont provoqué l’insécurité généralisée, la division de la région en deux et les plus importantes déportations de populations des plaines vers les montagnes refuges.
L’approche archéologique a permis d’établir la première séquence chrono-culturelle du Faro au cours du dernier millénaire. Si la présence d’un peuplement ancien dans la plaine était envisagée, l’étude archéologique apporte la preuve que des communautés humaines vivent dans le Faro depuis environ 1000 ans. A partir du 15ème siècle, des modifications surviennent. Celles-ci se manifestent surtout par l’apparition d’une nouvelle poterie ornée au Blepharis sp. Lorsque l’on compare la carte de distribution des sites associés à cette céramique, au trajet suivi par les Bata, qui remontent le cours du Faro en implantant des villages et à l’aire d’extension des langues tchadiques au Faro, il semble plausible que de nouvelles populations occupent la région vers le milieu du dernier millénaire de notre ère. Pour le 19ème siècle bien documenté par les traditions orales, les données archéologiques viennent renforcer l’idée d’une profonde rupture durant cette période.
En abordant l’histoire du peuplement du Faro, il était nécessaire d’examiner le concept de l’ethnicité comme il est classiquement employé dans la région. D’une manière générale, l’étude conforte l’idée qu’il est très difficile d’aborder la profondeur historique des identités des groupes actuels.
La confrontation entre les faits des cultures vivantes et les résultats archéologiques a permis d’évaluer les potentialités de raisonnements historique et comparatif. On ne peut que constater, dans cet exemple concret, le grand intérêt qu’il y a à fonder la reconstitution du passé sur de multiples sources.

Full textThis thesis presents a comparative study of the Bantu languages of the A80 group (also known as Makaa-Njem). The goal of the thesis is two-fold: (i) offer a synthesis of the state of knowledge in linguistics (and related disciplines) about the languages of the Bantu A80 group by adding new data and analysis for the Bekwel language of Gabon ; (ii) present the results of a comparative study at the synchronic and diachronic levels. The comparative study includes eight A80 languages: Shiwa, Kwasio, Bekol, Makaa, Konzime, Njem, Bekwel and Mpiemo. The study adopts in the first place a synchronic perspective ("horizontal" correspondences) then approaches the same data from a diachronic point of view ("vertical" correspondences, reconstructions and reflexes), focusing mainly on phonology, and to a lesser extent, on nominal and verbal morphology. It is based on a 1029 cognate lexicon established on the basis of first-hand data for Bekwel and published data for the other languages. Data was processed using the online tools of the RefLex project.The first part of the thesis establishes a general summary of the knowledge on the Bantu A80 languages and on Bekwel in particular. The second part presents the corpus (gathering methods then nature of the data, sources and processing) and a series of concise phonological (and morphological) sketches for all eight languages constituted on the basis of the collected and/or compiled data. The third and final part presents the results of the comparative study. It brings into light the morphological and phonological processes that have shaped the languages of the Makaa-Njem group through their evolution. At the morphological level, it reveals a process of simplification of the noun class system (due to the assimilation of old prefixes into the stems leading to an increase in the number of zero prefixes), numerous cases of re-classification and the role of old nasal prefixes in occlusive devoicing stem initially as well as the mergence of semi-voiced consonants in Bekwel. At the phonological level, a tendency to monosyllabicity can be observed, at a greater or lesser extent depending on the language. This finds an explanation in the diachronic analysis that shows that the languages of the A80 group often were subject to final vowel dropping (V2), in some cases even the whole final syllable. The vowel originally in V2 is generally preserved thanks to anticipations of various types: emergence of diphthongs, V11-V12 sequences (sometimes including devocalization of V11), new vowel quality by fusion, etc. Finally, the conclusion of the thesis summarizes the main results with regards to morphology, phonology and the lexicon, illustrating how these results will be useful for (future) analyses and descriptions of languages of the A80 group

Full textLes phénomènes prosodiques envisagés au premier plan sont l'intonation et le mélisme. Cette dernière notion, d'inspiration musicale et adaptée en linguistique par Caelen-Haumont et Bel (2000), renvoie à une vaste excursion de la courbe mélodique au cours de l'articulation d'un mot ou d'un groupe de mots. Cette notion se manifeste sur le plan prosodique par une proéminence lexicale dont les auteurs attribuent l'origine à l'expression de la subjectivité des locuteurs. Après une application du concept de mélisme au français et à l'anglais, l'adaptation du concept en bàsàa nous montre une juxtaposition du mélisme sur les autres phénomènes prosodiques de la langue, dont le ton et l'intonation.
A partir d'un corpus d'interviews radiophoniques de 6 locuteurs (une femme et 5 hommes), nous avons appliqué le modèle MOMEL-MELISM, un script sous Praat (Boersma et Weenick). Cet outil qui permet la segmentation de la voix humaine en neuf niveaux : aigu, supérieur, haut, élevé, moyen, bas, inférieur et grave) détermine la proéminence lexicale car les mélismes sont concernés par les trois premières catégories, les plus hautes.
Après une description linguistique et prosodique de la langue bàsàa, nous avons procédé à une double analyse des mélismes issus de notre corpus : une analyse phonologique et une interprétation linguistique et pragmatique. La description phonologique se consacre à la réalisation tonale, une syllabe tonale étant entendue ici comme une séquence de deux cibles tonales déterminées automatiquement par le modèle. De même, cette description s'est focalisée sur la pente mélodique, sur les types de structures et le constat ici est que les mélismes ne sont pas liés par des contraintes linguistiques.
Cette thèse ensuite s'est intéressée à l'interprétation de la proéminence prosodique, sur quatre dimensions : la subjectivité linguistique, la structure du discours, la structure informationnelle et l'analyse sémantique et pragmatique des réseaux lexicaux autour des mélismes lexicaux.
En somme, quelle que soit la dimension d'étude du mélisme (subjectivité lexicale, focus, deixis-anaphore, etc.), le mélisme n'a pas de zone d'apparition prédéterminée dans l'énoncé. Il apparaît au gré de l'expression de l'affectivité par le locuteur.

Full textInformation and Communication Technologies are now part of the life of many institutions of higher education, secondary education and even primary education. The benefits for these institutions, as well as for teachers and learners are established. However, there are very few cases of experiments carried out in learning Institutions with positive results. This thesis is about integrating ICTs into a French course in the Anglo-Saxon university of Buea in Cameroon. The context in which the course is taught in classrooms makes it difficult for the objectives to be met. Because of the large class size, the little time allocated to the course and the heterogeneous nature of students’ language levels, speaking, writing and interactional skills are not worked out in class. This action research thesis sets out to propose a blended learning set-up that hinges around the university IT Centre. Online classes are articulated with classroom sessions. Thus, students have the opportunity to involve in small groups, in communicative activities and in quasi synchronous mode. These communication modality, very often less studied by CMC researchers, is an efficient alternative to synchronous communication and environments that are very much reliable as far as internet quality is concerned in that part of the world. The general question that has driven the research is: How can a technology instrumented approach help in overcoming difficulties and ease learning? To answer that question, two technology based experiences were carried out. They were guided by a research protocol. Data collected enable me to analyse interactions and determine traces of language acquisition. From the circumstances surrounding the experiments, it is discovered that there are a number of obstacles to the integration of ICT in “low tech context” like that which is studied. The technology-based stet-up pattern is then questioned. This research work goes further to propose mobile learning as an alternative to the ICT integration model that concentrates all the resources in a single location

Full textThis thesis sets out to describe and to analyse the discourse markers (DMs) là, par exemple, ékyé and wèé in Cameroon French, a regional variety of French that is spoken in Subsharan Africa. It is a pragmatic study of oral discourses that highlights how communication is based on speech inter-subjectivity such as DMs, which constitute linguistic traces. In order to study these uninvestigated pragmatic phenomena in Cameroon spoken French, three notions were of prime necessity, namely: discursive continuity, social implicity and interaction. These notions help to shed light on the informational structure and on the situational context of the DMs là, par exemple, ékyé and wèé in discourse organization as well as in its production or in its reception. The data of this study was got from two sources: on the one hand, radio programmes, and on the other hand, scripts collected from the internet. The study comprises two parts: Part one focuses on the theoretical concerns, alongside some illustrations of excerpts from the data. The second part provides a systematic analysis of the data (the functioning of the four DMs là, par exemple, ékyé and wèé in radio programmes and in internet scripts). This analysis enabled the confirmation that not only is it difficult to clearly define what a DM is but that there are also several competing terms and explanations, as theories regarding studies on DMs are heterogeneous. We propose an operational definition of DMs for the analysis of the data and suggest that studies on regional French spoken in Africa should take into account oral phenomena related to interaction

Full textThis thesis provides an analysis of the phonological and morphosyntactic systems of Kwakum, a Bantu A90 language spoken in the East Region of Cameroon. The data analysed in this work was collected from Kwakum speakers living in Sibita, a village located in the Doume Subdivision. Kwakum has a series of 28 consonants, among which aspirated and labiovelars stops. Its seven-vowel system is marked by contrastive length. The tone analysis is based on the distinction H vs. L vs. 0. The noun class system is somewhat reduced and the correspondences between the Kwakum classes and those of Proto Bantu are still problematic. There are eight morphological classes, marking number, and five noun classes which determine agreement. There is also a default agreement pattern triggered by singular nouns. This suggests an ongoing breakdown of the noun class system. Noun class agreement can only be observed within the noun phrase. In connective constructions, the syntactic head is not necessarily the semantic head. Kwakum has “ambipositions”, used as prepositions with nominal complements and as postposition with pronominal complements. Tense marking involves the use of tense auxiliaries or affixes which may be combined with a replacive tone scheme assigned to the verb stem. Kwakum is a SVO language and also presents instances of non-verbal clauses involving two nouns or a noun/pronoun and a demonstrative. Full textThis thesis deals with the development of structures operatoires it refers more precisely to the notion of class inclusion and of matter conservation. Our approach to this aims at testing of piaget about a cognitive development systel where the main stages necessarily follow cach other on an irreversible way. Therefore, we have adapted piaget's test to our experimenting milieu which is the eton milieu. We have obtained two kind of tests: a quite weakly adapted to the experimenting milieu one, and a strongly adaptad one. A 160 scholar children were shared out amongst four groups according to their age. From 6. 0 - 13. 11. Thanks to the results we were able to compare the rural milieu from the urban one, and the genevan milieu from the eton one. We found for instance that the eton's children could acquire both notion of inclusion and conservation. Nevertheless, because of the very few number of children who could include before the age of eleven comparatively to the results of piaget, we may wonder whether the eton child reaches the stage of logical answers without going through the empirical inclusion one. Also, the results from the test of conservation doesn't make obvious the piaget's stage of development. At last but not least, the analyse of variance shows that the adaptation of the tests is more important for the less successful part of the eton milieu. The answers of inclusion, of conservation and their justifications were studied according to the age, the milieu and the experimenting situation. They lead us to conclude to the existence of the distinctif culturel, this entity that deeply influence the setting of fundamental processes into functional system, and the way they are applied in any specific situation

Full textSamba-Leko is an unwritten language spoken by some 10 000 people in an area straddling the Cameroon-Nigeria border. It belongs to the Adamawa branch of the Niger-Congo family, and has not previously been analyzed in depth. This description is based on first-hand data collected in the field in the course of several stays in the Cameroonian village of Allani. It deals with a range of aspects of the language and is divided into four main parts: the phonology (phonemes and tonemes), the syntactic categories and word-formation processes (derivation and composition), the structure of noun and verb phrases, and the utterance patterns. Particular attention has been devoted to a number features relating to the verb phrase and to utterance structures. These include serialization and hierarchical constructions in the verb phrase, "portmanteaux" utterances, and reported discourse. The failure of such a mimetic approach has made a number of political leaders and thinkers aware of strong links existing between cultural and developmental problems. Some of them have devised new developmental strategies taking culture into account. Theatre can sensitise and awaken social consciousness and enable the people of cameroon to adopt new social standards and practices, integrating and furthering cultural values; more specifically it could help develop in every one a clear sense of a national consciousness and accelerate the process of national integration for all cameroonian ethnic groups. Full textAnalyzing the didactic discourse in Cameroon from 1982 to 2002, this investigation studies text books used in the teaching of French and English, the official languages and languages of teaching in the nursery, primary and secondary education. Although it adopts pragmatics as the main approach, the study is multidisciplinary: it focuses on how the language gets in action, how it draws meaning from a system of signs and especially, what is its place in the social relations that binds the human being between them and to the world. The research makes thus account of the possible interpretative of the educational discourse that, on its turn, generates the representations that emerge and crystallize in the process of production and interpretation and which, at the same time, can considerably influence the individual and collective personality of the learners. The study notes that, by the androcentric representations it carries, the didactic discourse in Cameroon seems to prepare the future social actors to a sexually unbalanced socialization, in the transmission of knowledge and of know-how. This is contrary to the ideal extolled by the official texts that display the equality of the odds as creed. Although it doesn't propose immediate solutions, the investigation highlights the emergency of taking into account the Gender issues in the choice of icons, graphics, literary texts and other materials used in the teaching of the official languages. Otherwise, the educational discourse in Cameroon will always be overhanging with the political dominating discourse and even the current social reality

Full textSur le plan méthodologique, la production d'observables s'est effectuée par des techniques classiques dans les sciences humaines et sociales, mais avec des adaptations pour le terrain : la participation observante, l'entretien compréhensif, des corpus non sollicités, mais aussi et surtout un travail sur l'expérience du terrain des acteurs de la recherche (enquêteur et témoins). Cette ouverture a permis de comprendre qu'il ne fallait pas s'accrocher à une démarche prédéfinie. Les approches ethnosociolinguistique et interprétiviste, nous sont alors apparues comme des démarches constructivistes, qui ont conduit à une dimension réflexive, grâce à la récursivité de la connaissance construite entre enquêteur, témoins et contextes de la recherche.
Se basant sur l'acceptation mutuelle des différents acteurs sociaux comme mode de vie, ce travail a revisité les concepts de norme et de communauté linguistique, et les a considérés comme des pratiques contextuelles. Le français dans ce cadre est apparu comme un ensemble de constructions représentationnelles (francanglais, bon français, « français personnalisé », mauvais français, français du quartier, français des enfants ou des apprenants). Les formes reconnues et privilégiées comme du français ou bien une autre langue, ont une pertinence contextuelle. Différents acteurs sont ainsi d'accord même sur les points de désaccord. Dans cette alchimie, le français du quartier, qui se présente dans la société doualaise, comme une pratique caractéristique à la fois de l'ouverture et du clivage social dans les rapports à autrui. Une des implications linguistiques de ces pratiques est l'ensemble des efforts pour l'appropriation du français qui, en étant la langue de jure, se présente comme un capital symbolique. Il donne du pouvoir, et permet d'accéder aux ressources rattachées au pouvoir. Parler français à Douala revient donc à revendiquer le pouvoir symbolique, c'est vouloir imposer SON français dans un contexte interactif, puisque LE français en soi n'existe pas. Il est simplement une langue en construction.
Le point essentiel à retenir de cette étude est que si la langue reste une construction sociale, la démarche pour y accéder ne peut occulter la contextualisation, avec les conséquences qui en découlent.

Full textThis dissertation deals with a descriptive grammar of Mankon, a Ngemba language, belonging to the Eastern group of Grassfields Bantu, spoken in the North-West province (English speaking) of Cameroon. It is currently the only extensive descriptive grammar written on a language of this group. It is of historical, typological and theoritical interest. Up to recently, these languages, little known, were considered non Bantu (semi-Bantu or Bantoid). From the 1960s onwards research work done on their phonology, tonology and nominal class system, has gradually brought to light their Bantu characteristics and, therefore questioned their genetic relationship with Narrow Bantu languages. It is nowadays generally agreed that these languages are, if not Bantu, closely related to Narrow Bantu languages. Hopefully, the description of the Mankon verb sytem and syntax included in the present dissertation will bring in new arguments concerning this historical issue. As for theory, the description of thes Mankon morphophonology and more precisely the morphotonology, extremely complex, should be of interest for theoretical linguistics and cognitive sciences. This grammar is divided into five parts. Part I considers the phonology. Part II deals with segmental and tonal morpho-logy. Part III presents the noun (nominal classes and the concord system), derived nouns, noun phrases, substitutes and pronouns. Full textThe semantic value of the 16 "primary" classifiers of Aadamaawa fulfulde (Cameroon, Nigeria, Cra, Tchad) is analysed within the theoretical framework of enunciative linguistics developed by Antoine Culiodi. The full nominal (fn) is interpreted as participating in two representational levels : 1) it is a level-ii representation (language production materialized through text) resulting from locating relationship between a term belonging to the lexical units class (base units) and a term belonging to the markers class (classifiers); 2) this fn is then a trace of level-i process (mental representations); the operation consists of determinating an abstract occurrences class defined by fundamental properties which mainly are : (a) continuous; (b) discrete (or discontinuous); (c) dense; (d) compact. The analysis of fn from this point of view makes it possible to distinguish two ranges of classifiers : 1) classifiers which mark scanning operations through the notional domain of a base unit : (a) scanning without individuation (smooth scanning) operated by the indefinite classifier -d'um, and by the continuous non discreted classifier - d'am; (b) scanning with individuation (granular scanning) operated by the indeterminate plural classifier -d'e, and by the determinate plural classifier -d'i ; 2) the classifiers which isolate a particular value and which works as extractors : (a) serial units extractors (-nde, -ndu, -ndi); continuous units extractors (-ngo, -ngal, ngol, -ngu, -nge); (c) mass units extractors (-ko, -ki, -ka, -kal)
