Abstract:
The lithogenous minerals containing lantanides (Ln) are unsustainable within the zone of hypergenesis. Their dilution impoverish soils in terms of lantanides content, especially in humid regions. In conditions of neutral environmental pH in dry steppe zone, the lantanides loose their mobility, and, hence, become unavailable for plants. The lantanides are characterized by the high biochemical and biological activity. The physiologic impact of lantanides on plants is set. The separate parts of vascular plants accumulate lantanides in different degree. The difference may reach 100-fold level. For many plants the accumulation of lantanides occurs at the reverse order: roots > leaves > stalks > grain/fruits. Lantanides accumulators (such as brackens), promote their accumulation within the humus layer of soils. Fertilizers with lantanides are widely implemented in China. They powder seeds and implement top dressing in soils with lantanides deficit, i.e., with low bulk content and/or with low availability for plants. Although at moderate increasing of Ln concentration in solution, there is often observed the increasing of the crop yield in laboratory conditions. However, the implementation of lantanides in the soil does not always give the positive effect. The main share of Ln in the soils with high sorption capacity is sorbed, and the increasing of doses leads to the decrease of the yield. The light lantanides are characterized by physical and chemical properties equal to Cа2+. And the mass replacement of Cа2+ by lantanides harms the development of plants. The high doses of lantanides have a negative impact on the biochemical processes in plants. The competition with iron and phosphorus is stipulated by the close solubility of iron and lanthanum phosphates: the accumulation of La in plants tissues affects the content of P and Fe within them.

Abstract:
Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang studi teoritis struktur dan spektrum elektronik kompleks [Ln(pytpy)(NO3)3] (Ln=Eu, Tb, pytpy=4’-(2-pyrrolyl)-2,2’:6’,2”-terpyridine) menggunakan metode komputasi semiempiris Sparkle/RM1. Metode Sparkle/RM1 ini dapat digunakan untuk memperoleh struktur geometri paling stabil dan parameter struktur dalam keadaan gas sebagai simulasi metode eksperimen yang mungkin terlalu mahal. Perhitungan spektrum elektronik dilakukan dengan ZINDO/S, dengan mengganti sparkle dengan titik muatan +3 pada koordinat yang dihasilkan melalui Sparkle/RM1. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ion lantanida pada kompleks [Ln(pytpy)(NO3)3] memiliki bilangan koordinasi 9, yang berikatan dengan satu ligan tridentat pytpy dan tiga gugus nitrat sebagai ligan bidentat. Panjang ikatan rata-rata ion lantanida dengan atom N pada ligan pytpy adalah 2,541 Å dan 5,14 Å untuk Eu3+ dan Tb3+. Studi teoritis spektroskopi menunjukkan bahwa metode Sparkle/RM1 cukup akurat dalam memprediksi spektrum IR ligan pytpy, kompleks [Eu(pytpy)(NO3)3] maupun [Tb(pytpy)(NO3)3]. Spektrum UV-Vis kompleks [Eu(pytpy)(NO3)3] dan [Tb(pytpy)(NO3)3] memiliki intensitas serapan yang lebih kuat dan absorbansi yang lebih besar dari spektrum UV-Vis ligan pytpy.

Abstract:
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran program simulasi ekstraksi pelarut dan spektrofotometri UV-Vis pada logam lantanida menggunakan ekstraktan 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone berbasis Microsoft Excel, serta menguji kelayakan dan tanggapan mahasiswa terhadap media yang dikembangkan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (RD), dengan tujuh langkah yaitu; (1) potensi dan masalah, (2) pengumpulan data, (3) desain produk, (4) validasi desain, (5) revisi desain, (6) uji coba produk, dan (7) revisi produk. Instrumen penilaian terdiri dari angket kelayakan media, angket tanggapan mahasiswa dan angket system usability scale (SUS). Penelitian dilakukan kepada 25 orang mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Kimia Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Syiah Kuala. Media yang diuji coba kepada mahasiswa telah divalidasi oleh validator dengan persen kelayakan sebesar 85,00% dan kategori sangat layak. Respons mahasiswa terhadap media ini sangat baik dengan rata-rata 88,35%, dan skor SUS yang didapat sebesar 85,30 dengan kategori dapat diterima, artinya program simulasi berbasis Microsoft Excel ini dapat digunakan untuk mensimulasi praktikum mengenai ekstraksi pelarut dan spektrofotometri UV-Vis pada logam lantanida menggunakan ekstraktan 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone.

Abstract:
The present work describes the spectrochemical study of some Lanthanide (III) - ceftazidime (Ln(III)-CEFZ) complexes. The impact of the ligand environment on electronic spectrum of the lantanide ion with special reference to complexation and nature of Ln-ligand bond has been examined. The energy and intensity parameters for the complexes have also been evaluated. The ligand and all prepared complexes were screened for their antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus and the results showed that antibacterial activity of ligand on complexation have been enhanced.

Abstract:
Lantana camara (L.) is employed by several ethnical groups to treat numerous diseases. Although there are no ethnomedical reports on its use against leishmaniasis, organic extracts prepared from L. camara were shown to display leishmanicidal activity. In the present study, we carried out a bioassay-guided fractionation of the dichloromethane extract from Mexican L. camara in order to identify the compounds responsible for the leishmanicidal activity. Eighteen chromatographic fractions (FI–FXVIII) were evaluated in vitro against Leishmania mexicana and L. amazonensis. FII, FX, FXI, FXV, and FXVI showed significant activity against both Leishmania strains, the most potent of which was FXV. Eicosane (1), squalene (2), β-ionone (3), caryophyllene oxide (4), β-caryophyllene (5), hexanoic acid (6), tiglic acid (7), a mixture of lantanilic (8) and camaric (9) acids, and lantadene B (10) were identified and obtained from the active fractions and evaluated for their leishmanicidal activity. The mixture of lantanilic (8) and camaric (9) acids (79%/21%) was the most potent one (half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) = 12.02 ± 0.36 μM). This study indicates that this cultivar of L. camara has high potential for the development of phytomedicines or as a source of natural products, which might represent lead compounds for the design of new drugs against leishmaniasis.

Abstract:
The lanthanium, neodymium and erbium maleates, were prepared starting from the oxides with hydrochloric acid for the formation of the salts, both in aqueous suspension, and after recrystallizade and dry, acid maleic was added. The obtained compositions were studied through the with EDTA complexometry, molar conductance thermogravimetry (TG), infrared spectroscopy, rays-X difratometry for the method of the powder and molecular modelling. The curves TG were obtained in atmosphere of synthetic air. The results made possible to establish the stochiometry and the degree of hydration of the compositions, that presented general formula: M(Mal)x.nH2O. The curves TG also allowed to verify the thermal stability, as well as the process of thermal decomposition, of these composed. The rays-X diffraction, for the method powder, showed that all the compositions possess crystalline structure, however, without formation of series isomorphous.

Primjena specijalne teorije relativnosti u kemiji nije česta; potreba za njom javlja se tek pri proračunu svojstava teških atoma, u kojima se elektroni gibaju relativističkim brzinama. U članku su dati primjeri objašnjenja osebujne boje zlata, niskog tališta žive, boje bizmutovih i olovnih spojeva, utjecaja relativističke korekcije na proračun oblika klastera zlata, duljine veza u spojevima 11. skupine i lantanoida te napona olovnog akumulatora i baterije Zn/HgO. Usto su prikazane osnove specijalne teorije relativnosti i kvantne kemije.

Oggetto della Tesi di Laurea Magistrale è la preparazione di nuovi complessi polimetallici contenenti elementi del blocco d e ioni trivalenti della serie dei lantanidi, tra loro uniti mediante opportuni leganti polidentati in grado di fungere da ponte. In particolare, i centri metallici di transizione considerati hanno configurazione elettronica d6 e d8, mentre gli elementi del blocco f sono stati scelti in funzione dei loro spettri di emissione nelle regioni del visibile e del vicino infrarosso. Composti modello sono stati sintetizzati utilizzando Y(III) al posto degli ioni Ln(III). I leganti a ponte considerati sono caratterizzati dalla presenza di gruppi C-, N- ed O-donatori. Misure di emissione, eccitazione e decadimento luminescente hanno permesso di indagare l’influenza dei centri appartenenti al blocco d sulla luminescenza associata alle transizioni f-f degli ioni lantanidi. Determinati composti polimetallici sono stati infine oggetto di studio elettrochimico.

Oggetto della Tesi di Laurea Magistrale è la preparazione di nuovi complessi di elementi del gruppo 3 e della serie dei lantanidi aventi chelanti anionici ossigeno-donatori non convenzionali nella sfera di coordinazione. L’indagine sperimentale è focalizzata in particolare sulla sintesi di composti di coordinazione omo- ed eterolettici con le basi coniugate della malonaldeide, di beta-chetoesteri e del dimetilmalonato. La caratterizzazione di derivati di centri metallici quali Sm(III), Eu(III), Tb(III), Dy(III) e Yb(III) è affiancata da uno studio dettagliato delle proprietà fotoluminescenti attraverso misure di emissione, eccitazione e decadimento luminescente. I nuovi complessi fotoluminescenti sono impiegati per la preparazione di materiali plastici drogati, utilizzando polimetilmetacrilato e polivinilpirrolidone quali matrici polimeriche. Le proprietà luminescenti di tali materiali sono confrontate con quelle dei corrispondenti composti di coordinazione puri.

Abstract:
In questo lavoro di tesi è stata studiata la chimica di coordinazione delle basi coniugate di malonaldeide (MA), bromomalonaldeide (BrMA) e nitromalonaldeide (NMA) nei confronti di ioni trivalenti di elementi del gruppo 3 e della serie dei lantanidi. Sono stati isolati sia complessi omolettici che derivati aventi ulteriori leganti azoto- o ossigeno-donatori nella sfera di coordinazione. E’ stata indagata la luminescenza nel visibile dei derivati di europio(III) e terbio(III) e i composti che hanno manifestato effetto-antenna sono stati impiegati come droganti per la preparazione di materiali plastici fotoluminescenti basati sui polimeri PMMA e PVP. E’ stato infine studiato il comportamento redox dei complessi di europio. E’ stata osservata la riduzione monoelettronica reversibile del centro metallico per i complessi del legante BrMA, con ottenimento di un composto avente fotoluminescenza regolabile in funzione di un potenziale elettrico esterno.

In questo lavoro di tesi è stata investigata la possibilità di utilizzare i metallo-esacianoferrati, in particolare il nichel-esacianoferrato (NiHCF) ed indio-esacianoferrato (InHCF), come setacci ionici, per la rimozione selettiva di cationi di terre rare. In particolare si è voluto studiare l’influenza di cationi diversi dal K+ e la loro capacità di intercalare nel reticolo cristallino dell’InHCF e NiHCF. Grazie alla proprietà di scambio ionico, gli esacianoferrati sono in grado di fungere da setacci ionici. I cationi (ad esempio K+) intercalati nella struttura possono essere scambiati con cationi più pesanti, fino al raggiungimento di un certo limite, dopo il quale un ulteriore scambio è sfavorito dalle interazioni repulsive tra gli ioni carichi positivamente. I campioni di indio-esacianoferrato (InHCF) e nichel-esacianoferrato (NiHCF) sono stati sintetizzati sia per via elettrochimica che per via chimica e sono stati caratterizzati utilizzando tecniche elettrochimiche (in particolare la voltammetria ciclica), IR, XRF, TGA e TEM. In questo studio è stato dimostrato come l’InHCF ed il NiHCF riescano a scambiare in modo selettivo cationi di terre rare e possano quindi essere considerati ottimi candidati nella sintesi e produzione di setacci molecolari.

In Sicilia l'Emys trinacris è presente ancora in numerose aree umide, con popolazioni che assumono talvolta caratteri morfometrici fra loro differenti (Fritz et al., 2006), tanto da suggerire un'indagine atta a stabilire le cause di tale variabilità. Questo studio, con approccio multidisciplinare, ha quindi preso le mosse dall'esame dei caratteri morfometrici della specie oggetto d'indagine in tre siti distinti (Cap. 1), in cui già in passato si era riscontrata una certa variabilità morfometrica (Fritz et al., 2006). Si è quindi passati alla ricerca di motivazioni che ne giustificassero la variabiltà osservata e lo si è cercato di fare sia con un approccio genetico (Cap. 3), che ricorrendo allo studio della chimica dell'ecosistema (Cap. 2). Per condurre quest'ultima parte dello studio si è deciso di utilizzare i lantanidi, elementi chimici che sono da un lato riconducibili alle caratteristiche della pressione antropica delle zone investigate e dall'altro capaci di essere accumulati all'interno dei tessuti degli organismi studiati.
Emys trinacris, in Sicily is still present in a number of wetlands, with populations that are sometimes different from each other, on morphometric characters (Fritz et al., 2006) so as to suggest a survey designed to determine the causes of this variability. This study, with a multidisciplinary approach, took the moves from an examination of morphometric characters of the species under investigation in three distinct sites (Chapter 1), which in the past had found some morphometric variability (Fritz et al., 2006). He then went looking for reasons which justify the observed variability and has tried to do it with a genetic approach (Chapter 3), using the study of the chemistry of the ecosystem (Chapter 2). To conduct this part of the study it was decided to use the lanthanides, chemical elements that are, on the one hand due to the characteristics of human pressure areas investigated, and the other able to be accumulated within the tissues of the organisms studied.

Abstract:
This work is mainly focused on the investigation and processing of luminescent molecular complexes of lanthanide ions (Ln), for the development of efficient near infrared (NIR)-emitting materials. In the light of a detailed understanding of the chemical/photophysical properties of the special class of lanthanide quinolinolato complexes, as prototype molecular materials for NIR applications, two main aspects have been taken into consideration for a progress in this field: i) (multi-) functional NIR-emissive heterolanthanide complexes and ii) lanthanide-doped sol-gel glasses as NIR-emissive optical materials. Heterometallic assemblies, containing two or more different lanthanide cations as carriers of distinctive functionalities, represent promising materials where different physical properties can coexist or be in interplay thanks to intermetallic communication. A thorough discussion on heterolanthanide assemblies, pointing out the general strategies to achieve the desired (multi-) functionalities in these systems, is provided herein. In this framework, heterolanthanide Er/Yb systems have attracted significant interest for Er3+ sensitization through resonance energy transfer (RET) from Yb3+ leading to enhancement of Er3+ NIR emission at 1.5 μm in glass host Yb-Er co-doped optical fiber amplifiers. A strategy to achieve composition control and homogeneity in such materials resorts to the encapsulation of Er and Yb in the same molecule to afford intermetallic communication between lanthanide ions sitting at short distance in a discrete polynuclear architecture. Fully efficient Yb-to-.Er RET at molecular level is firstly demonstrated in the mixed-lanthanide Yb2ErQ9 complex (Q = quinolinol ligand), and, as an extension of these studies, the investigation of the full photocycle leading to narrow-band NIR emission in a series of heterolanthanide ErxYb3-x quinolinolato compounds, on variation of metal composition and molecular stoichiometry, has been performed. Moreover, the first example of a tri-lanthanide discrete polynuclear molecule containing three NIR-emissive lanthanide ions: Nd3+, Yb3+ and Er3+, is presented. The NdYbErQ9 complex was investigated as a potential broad-band NIR emitter where the intensities of the three different main emissions from each lanthanide ion can be finely tuned on varying metal composition. The investigation of the processing potential of luminescent lanthanide complexes through doping into inorganic or polymeric host matrixes is of crucial interest for the development of optical devices (amplifiers, optical waveguides, OLEDs, etc.). To this purpose, studies on the incorporation of an Yb quinolinolate complex into a silica sol-gel glass, with a thorough account of the photophysical properties of this hybrid material, have been performed. Promising results on silica thin films doped with heterolanthanide Er/Yb quinolinolates are also presented as a molecular approach to achieve controlled light conversion in NIR-emissive optical materials.

Abstract:
Lo scopo di questo lavoro di tesi sperimentale consiste nell’ideazione e nell’ottimizzazione di nuove forme d’ingegnerizzazione di sistemi nano e micrometrici di silice (SiO2) in cui sono stati incorporati complessi di metalli di transizione e lantanoidei. Lo studio è scaturito dalla prospettiva di poter trasferire le caratteristiche di luminescenza dei complessi dalla scala molecolare di sintesi a quella macroscopica, attraverso l’utilizzo di una opportuna matrice veicolante. Dopo una intensa sessione di lavoro dedicata all’ottimizzazione della sintesi e delle caratteristiche di stabilità e resistenza dei sistemi, dalla fase sol fino ai micronizzati, si è sviluppata una possibile applicazione industriale come substrato tessile dotato di funzioni eventualmente antibatteriche. This experimental work is aimed at exploiting and optimizing new and convenient ways to incorporate organometallic and lanthanoid complexes into silica-based colloid matrices. Following a similar approach, the luminescent properties of both organometallic and lanthanoid complexes could be kept unaltered on passing from the molecular to nanometric scale (sol), ending up to micrometer sized systems (micro-powders). The subsequent optimization of the processes led to systems that were loaded onto the surface of fabric, which were successively studied for their light-induced antimicrobial abilities.
