Abstract:
Unfortunately, in the era of minimal access surgery, visceral injuries due to laparoscopic port insertion are common. Most such injuries are diagnosed on direct vision through a laparoscope camera. We report a case of iatrogenic gastric perforation during laparoscopy, presenting in an unusual way in the form of a very high carbon dioxide output on the anaesthesia monitor. This atypical presentation should be borne in mind while performing laparoscopy.

Introduction: Emergency laparoscopy is regarded as a challenging and high-risk domain due to the requisite expertise in both laparoscopic and emergency surgery. Additionally, the physical fatigue of surgical teams and the urgency context contribute to potential increased morbidity rates in emergency surgery. Furthermore, a primary concern with laparoscopy is the frequency of deep collections. The objective of our study was to evaluate the risk factors for morbi-mortality associated with laparoscopic intervention in non-traumatic acute abdominal emergencies. Patients with findings suggestive of a perforated diverticulitis may be subject to colostomy with the attendant morbidity and quality-of-life concerns. Recent literature demonstrates decreased use of laparotomy and colostomy when diagnostic laparoscopy reveals absence of fecal peritonitis. Ten patients presenting with diverticulitis between May 2009 and February 2012 underwent diagnostic laparoscopy. The indication for surgery in nine patients was failure of medical management with or without percutaneous drainage and one had significant pneumoperitoneum at presentation. A comprehensive algori

Minimally invasive surgery is one of the newest and most exciting areas of development in procedural medicine. This field shows tremendous potential to increase therapeutic benefit while minimizing some of the painful or dangerous side effects of surgical interventions. Minimally invasive surgery has strong historic ties to the field of gynecology and has come a long way as technology and techniques have improved. This has increasingly allowed the application of laparoscopy to more complex procedures and the treatment of gynecologic malignancies. Three laparoscopic approaches, traditional lapa

Laparoscopy was performed on patients deemed clinical stage I in preoperative studies. Of the 79 patients, 74 found to be surgical stage I or II were enrolled in the comparative study. The introduction of laparoscopic and minimally invasiveprocedures as standard for solving a significant number of conditions in abdominal surgery, has led surgeons toincreasingly use laparoscopic surgery of the spleen. However, some unique anatomical characteristics of the spleen can lead to limitation in the application of laparoscopy. Specialized instrumentation facilitates manual needle handling to support laparoscopic suturing tasks, e.g. uterine closure, in minimally invasive surgery. Current solutions for robotassisted laparoscopy lack the possibility to integrate these instruments, making them suitable only for conventional laparoscopic surgery. This paper introduces a novel end effector design actuating a conventional suturing instrument. The end effector is integrated into the DLR MiroSurge system to facilitate telemanipulated suturing. Diagnostic laparoscopy is the basic procedure in laparoscopic surgery that has wide utility in practice, thus avoiding morbidity associated with open surgery. Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive technique wherein a fibre optic instrument is inserted through the abdominal wall to view the organs in abdomen/pelvis and permit the diagnosis and necessary surgical procedure. Nowadays, almost all general surgical procedures can be performed using minimal invasive techniques. Laparoscopy can be performed both for diagnostic as well as for therapeutic purposes.
