In shearing sediment beneath glaciers, networks of grains may transiently support shear and normal stresses that are larger than spatial averages. Consistent with studies of fault-gouge genesis, we hypothesize that crushing of grains in such networks is responsible for surrounding larger grains with smaller grains. At sufficiently large strains, this should minimize stress heterogeneity, favor intergranular sliding and abrasion rather than crushing, and result in a self-similar grain-size distribution. This hypothesis is tested with a ring-shear device that slowly shears a large annular sedimen

This is mainly because of the need for at least three or even four degrees of crushing, containing: jaw, cone or impact crushers. One of the methods of reducing the amount of energy expended on the crushing process is reducing the number of crushers in technological line. Abstract:
Thin-walled metal tubes are extensively used in aircraft and automobile industries as energy absorbers during collision. When a thin wall tube is subjected to an axial compressive load, lobes are formed sequentially and each lobe undergoes a large plastic deformation without any cracking; this is referred to as progressive buckling. The focus of this paper is to study the displacement and strain fields near the buckled zone of a thin-walled square tube both experimentally and numerically. Quasi-static test was conducted on thin-walled square tubes made of aluminum alloy AA-6063 and the displac
