AbstractThis article re‐examines the model for large‐scale defence acquisition, aiming to establish a more adaptable framework that can effectively navigate the uncertainties of a dynamic and evolving operational environment. Drawing upon principles derived from Beer's Viable System Model (VSM), coupled with software engineering concepts from DevOps and innovation frameworks, the article proposes the development of a preliminary acquisition framework. This paper presents a multi-variate and multi-phase deterministic framework for IT acquisition on a very-large scale. The conventional approach of IT acquisition through open tenders or contractual negotiations invariably elicits different kinds of fallacies. The deployment of the deterministic framework minimizes the shortcomings associated with the conventional IT acquisition approach. The salient factors for ensuring procurement success for very-large-scale IT acquisition are discussed and the notion of “acquisition preparedness” is delineated. Automakers manage vast fleets of connected vehicles and face an ever-increasing demand for their sensor readings. This demand originates from many stakeholders, each potentially requiring different sensors from different vehicles. Currently, this demand remains largely unfulfilled due to a lack of systems that can handle such diverse demands efficiently. Vehicles are usually passive participants in data acquisition, each continuously reading and transmitting the same static set of sensors. However, in a multi-tenant setup with diverse data demands, each vehicle potentially needs to provide dif

This thesis details the creation of ASKNet (Automated Semantic Knowledge Network), a system for creating large scale semantic networks from natural language texts. Using ASKNet as an example, we will show that by using existing natural language processing (NLP) tools, combined with a novel use of spreading activation theory, it is possible to efficiently create high quality semantic networks on a scale never before achievable. The ASKNet system takes naturally occurring English text (e.g., newspaper articles), and processes them using existing NLP tools. It then uses the output of those tools

AbstractThis chapter highlights the increase in large-scale land acquisitions across the globe and how it is intertwined with land tenure security. Land tenure security, or the lack thereof, plays a key role in the locational choice of investors. Land tenure security may mitigate the outcomes but is also affected by the acquisition of land. These effects are reflected in de facto displacements, the perception of weakened land tenure security, and changes in the land governance system. We shed light on these relationships between land acquisitions and land tenure security by first providing a g
