The inclusion of static aeroelastic effects is essential to the accurate calculation of the aerodynamic properties of a wing, the resulting wing loads, and ultimately the mass of the wing. The process currently used by most civilian aircraft manufacturers therefore makes use of time efficient linear panel methods for calculating the aerodynamics and modal data f

The relationship between the forces generated by the fish muscles and the observed pattern of movement is governed by the mechanics of the internal structure ofthe fish, and the fluid mechanics of the surrounding water. The mathematical modell ing of how fish swim involves coupling the external "biofluiddynamics" to the body's internal solid mechanics.
