Este trabalho pretende investigar os mecanismos da representação melodramática em um determinado período filmográfico da obra do cineasta dinamarquês Lars Von Trier, conhecido como Trilogia do Coração de Ouro, que compreende os seguintes filmes: Ondas do Destino (1996), Os Idiotas (1998) e Dançando no Escuro (2000). Para tanto o trabalho divide-se em quatro partes: a primeira promove uma revisão da literatura acadêmica sobre o melodrama cinematográfico; a segunda traça um panorama da evolução do modo de representação melodramático ao longo do tempo, localizando suas origens e seus modos de operação; a terceira e quarta partes focam no trajetória filmica de Lars Von Trier até o corpus analítico escolhido, investigando o modo de organização interna dos elementos fílmicos e os efeitos que tais composições visam provocar no espectador. Esta dissertação utilizou como perspectiva teórico-analítica o método conhecido como Poética, proposto no Laboratório de Análise Fílmica do Programa de Pós-graduação em Comunicação e Cultura Contemporâneas da Universidade Federal da Bahia, sob a orientação do Professor Wilson Gomes

A deflagração de discursos que permeiam as interações sociais é um tema recorrentemente abordado por Lars von Trier. Em especial, investigo como os espaços fílmicos construídos pelo diretor dinamarquês são engendrados para se criar uma atmosfera de embate ideológico e estético. A separação entre o “interno” e o “externo”, o que “pertence” e o que “não pertence” é a tônica que sustenta os filmes analisados. As personagens principais são todas femininas e essa escolha do diretor acaba por demonstrar como os papéis sociais se constroem em meio a uma sociedade permeada por valores historicamente naturalizados, dando a ver, por meio do cinema e de sua relação com outras mídias, vários combates identitários inerentes ao mundo contemporâneo. _________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
To make visible the discourses that permeate social interactions is a recurrent theme on Lars von Trier´s films. Locatedly, I investigate how filmic spaces are constructed by the Danish director in order to create an environment of aesthetical and ideological combat. The segregation between “insiders” and “outsiders”, the ones that are “emplaced” or “displaced” is a central issue in the films. The main characters are all female and this director´s choice ends up showing how social roles are built on a society made by historically and naturalized values, making visible, through cinema and its relation to other media, identity combats which are inherent to the world nowadays.

This essay intends a study of the Danish film-maker's work, Lars von Trier, as a grounding for the "cinema-thougt" that, when incorporated by a reader who assumes the reflexion in the existence, develops significant reviews. We call this reader "inspectador", because he is the initiative of incorporating the "restlessness" of the director and of assuming movie's situations in his subjectivity. The first part of the research analyzes the cinema as philosophy form Lars von Trier ideas, where the "inspectador"'s role is defined, the methodology of indirect communication and the cinema as possibility. This part also discuss the grounding and references that founds the problematic in Lar von Trier's work and how his movies stand out as "cinema-thougt. The second part analyzes the Cinema as philosophy from the "restnessless" of the existent, that is, visits Lars von Trier's production in order to reflect questions that arise in especific moments of his movie: as the Dogma 95 (Idioterne - #2, 1998), and the movies that precinds the correct formulation of the scenario, substituited by a "plan-map", as Dogviller (2003) e Manderlay (2005).
A presente tese investiga a obra do cineasta dinamarquês Lars von Trier como fundamento para o cinema-pensamento que, ao ser apropriado por um leitor que assume a reflexão na existência, desenvolve leituras significativas. Chamamos esse leitor de inspectador, pois é dele a iniciativa de se apropriar das inquietações do diretor e assumir as situações do filme em sua subjetividade. A primeira parte da pesquisa analisa o cinema como filosofia a partir de Lars von Trier, onde se define o papel do inspectador, a metodologia da comunicação indireta e o cinema como possibilidade. Trata também dos fundamentos e referências que embasam a problemática da obra de Lars von Trier e como seus filmes se situam como cinema-pensamento. A segunda parte analisa o Cinema como filosofia a partir das inquietações do existente, ou seja, visita a produção de Lars von Trier para refletir questões que surgem em momentos específicos de sua produção cinematográfica: como o movimento Dogma 95 (Os idiotas - #2, 1998), e os filmes que abstraem a formulação concreta do cenário, substituídos por uma planta-baixa, como Dogville (2003) e Manderlay (2005).

In 1995, the Danish director Lars von Trier was at the origin of Dogma 95, hence initiating a come back to a (more) primitive cinema. He gave up, for the time of a movie the aesthetic research caracterizing his cinema up to then. Even though marking a breakthrough, Dogma also brings up notions such as rules and concepts that are the director's trademark. What is a movie ? is the question asked by the film-maker. An impure work of art under the influence of discourse, previous works or different artistic domains as will be shown. As it seems impossible to escape from this mosaic of sources the notion of contamination has been retained. The contamination can be national : by putting Lars von Trier's work into a Danish perspective and answering the question "Why Dogma in 1995 in Denmark ?". Cinema itself can be contaminating: the film becomes a virus reaching the spectator by reactive processes (such as) -Avant-garde, situationism. - or latent ones -hypnosis, melodrama. Contamination is lastly the subject of Lars von Trier's films : diseases, infected territories, and more metaphorically the fear of the contaminating stranger are the core of his cinema such as the film is itself haunted by masters' ones/works. "
