SummaryA new methodology for blastocyst biopsy that uses a 1.48μm in diode laser is described. Trophectoderm cells are biopsied after laster zona drilling and culture, fixed and processed for fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) analysis. Preliminary results on the efficiency of the procedure and blastocyst recovery rate are promising. Blastocyst laser biopsy is a useful tool in preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) as it allows a more reliable diagnosis and widens the diagnostic possibilities on account of the higher number of cells obtained in the biopsy.

Abstract:
Laster stream is a major tributary of river Mandakini, which in turn is a major tributary of river Alaknanda. Stream traverses a distance of ~40 km before joining with river Mandakini at Suryaprayag (Tilwara) in Rudraprayag district (Uttarakhand), India. Present study reports existence of twenty one indigenous fish species belonging to eight genera, three families and two orders from the Laster stream. Schizothorax richardsonii (Cyprinidae family) was the dominating species followed by S. plagiostomus, Barilius sp., Tor sp., Noemacheilus sp., Pseudecheneis sp., Glyptothorax sp. The distribution pattern (diversity and abundance) of these species had negative co-relation with the increase in stream altitude. Habitat conditions in the stream varied considerably from headwater to main stream. Present study also describes the habitat specificity of fish assemblage. Maximum species diversity (18 species) was recorded from pool habitat and was the most preferred habitat. Least species diversity (09 species) was recorded from cascade habitat. Riffle and rapid habitat recorded no difference in species diversity.

Through the simulation, it can make up for the inadequacy of the traditional control method. Under certain conditions, the goal of process optimization will be achieved by finding the optimal parameters.

In this article Dominika Laster examines the embodied-memory work undertaken by the Polish theatre director and performance researcher Jerzy Grotowski. While Grotowski approached work with memory – which in his practice necessarily implied body-memory – in a variety of ways, it was often as a mode of inquiry. For Grotowski, there were at least two different types of memory work, which emerge in two distinct phases of his research. The first was the use of body-memory undertaken during the Theatre of Production phase. Here, the work with body-memory was used as a tool in the actor's process of self-penetration and opening, serving as an instrument in the rediscovery of impulses and intentions of a past moment. This process of rediscovery is integral to the freeing of creativity and tapping into the obstructed internal resources of the actor. Another use of memory work, which became articulated in the phase of Grotowski's research known as Art as Vehicle, is that which facilitates the rediscovery of essence. Grotowski's practice of ‘active remembering’ functioned as a tool in the search for one's essence, understood as the most intimate, pre-cultural aspect of the self, which precedes difference and is at once the most singular and universal aspect of being. Dominika Laster is a Lecturer in Theatre. Her book A Bridge Made of Memory: Embodied Memory, Witnessing, and Transmission in the Grotowski Work and her edition of Loose Screws: Nine New Plays from Poland, are forthcoming from Seagull Press (distributed globally by the University of Chicago Press).

Det frankiske Europa var i 900-tallet præget af store omvæltninger for den herskende elite. Et nyt dynasti etablerede sig som det toneangivende og gamle praksisser blev revurderet. Samtidig hermed blomstrede historieskrivningen op i det østfrankiske rige efter fem årtiers pause. I de nye narrativer er omdrejningspunktet individet. Her fremstår moralsk lederskab som centralt, da forfatterne fremstillede de fremmeste magtpersoner ud fra en ramme af dyder og laster. I denne artikel undersøges herskerrepræsentationen i historieskrivningen på baggrund af en central omend negligeret moraltraktat fra 900-tallet. Dermed søges forklaringer på den stigende interesse for dydsetik og indblik i fremherskende dydsforestillinger i 900-tallet.

In pre-modern history, games were considered beneficial for the balance of the humours. Gambling for money, however, was often associated with greed, one of the deadly sins. In the 16th century, a change occurred. Leone da Modena describes gambling as a special form of mercantile action, Pascasius Justus treats gambling as illness (not as vice). Spiele galten in der Vormoderne als förderlich für die Regulation des Säftehaushalts. Das Glückspiel um Geld allerdings wurde häufig mit der Todsünde der Habsucht in Verbindung gebracht. Im 16. Jh. setzt ein Wandel ein. Bei Leone da Modena wird das Spiel als eine Sonderform des kaufmännischen Handels beschrieben, bei Pascasius Justus der Spieltrieb als Krankheitsbild (nicht als Laster) behandelt.

The purpose of the research is identifying the influence of financial mindset and entrepreneurial mindset to personal finance. This is a quantitative research with descriptive analysis and simple linear regression analysis. The research’s respondents are eighty one (81) students of Faculty of Economics, Universitas Persatuan Guru 1945 NTT. The sampling technique is random sampling with questionnaire as data collection method. The research instrument for financial mindset is adopted from “OTM The Knew Rules of Building Wealth (CNBC)’ by Rhodes (2010) and the entrepreneurship mindset’s instrument is adopted from ‘Building E-Businesses series and Personal finance’ by Spinela, Yang & Laster (2007). The results imply that both financial mindset and entrepreneurial mindset have significant and simultaneous influence to personal finance.

Zusammenfassung Dank einer günstigen Quellenlage kennt man die ethnische Zusammensetzung von zwei wichtigen Benediktinerklöstern bei Rom, in Subiaco und Farfa. Die Mönche von jenseits der Alpen waren zunächst im Rahmen von Reformbemühungen durch die jeweiligen Kommendataräbte sehr geschätzt, bekamen aber zunehmend Gegenwind. Der Beitrag untersucht die vorgebrachten Argumente in den Verlautbarungen, die bis zum Appell an den Kaiser und – 1521 – an den Wormser Reichstag reichten. Bei den gegen die deutschen Mönche angeführten Beschuldigungen spielten auch nationale Vorurteile – wie das Laster der Trunksucht – eine Rolle. Als Patres der italienisch geprägten Kongregation von Monte Cassino zunächst Subiaco und dann auch Farfa übernommen hatten, wurde auch die sprachliche Diversität hervorgehoben, die aber in der Praxis keine gravierenden Auswirkungen weder im Innenleben der Klöster noch in ihrem sozialen Umfeld gehabt zu haben scheint.

Abstract:
Es ist ein imposantes Opus, das aus einer Dissertation an der Universität der Bundeswehr in München entstanden ist. Das Titelbild avisiert den Inhalt: Es ist ein Ausschnitt aus Ambrogio Lorenzettis Darstellung der Guten Regierung im Palazzo Pubblico in Siena (173–179). Zu sehen ist eine dichte städtische Architektur mit Campanile und Kuppel des Sieneser Domes im Hintergrund, alles sehr harmonisch geführt – eben das Ergebnis einer guten Politik. Wäre der Bildausschnitt etwas größer, könnte man – ungewöhnlich für diese Zeit des 14. Jahrhunderts – die tanzenden Bewohner sehen. Übrigens führt das gegenüber gestellte Bild die Verfehlungen einer schlechten Regierung drastisch vor Augen; die Laster und die Untugenden herrschen über die Stadt, die Gerechtigkeit ist gefesselt und die Bewohner fliehen aus dieser Stadt. Im Schlusskapitel wertet Schmid die gute politische Ordnung als architektonische Konstruktion, die schlechte als architektonische Dekonstruktion (333).

Helburua artearen praktikan eta komunikazio-sistema batean esanahia eraikitzeko prozesuen bereizketa egitea izango da, arteari buruz zer esateak eta nola idazteak artearen ezagutzan dituen ondorioetan sakonduz. Horretarako, Aitor Izagirre artista eta filosofia irakaslearen Artea eta hizkuntza: Analogia desegokia artikuluak (Gogoa, 2008) proposatzen duen esana eta esanahiaren arteko dikotomia arestian egindako bi ikerketen ondorioekin osatuko dugu, artearen jakintzaren eta hizkuntza-sistemen erabateko bereizketa aldarrikatuz. Finean, artea praktika komunikatiboaren esparrutik ateratzen saiatuko den hezkuntza-proiektu berri baten beharra azalduko dugu, komunitate akademikoari eta artearen esparruko ekoizleei EAEko Hezkuntza Sailak orain arte proposatu duen ikuspegiaren berrikusketa sustatzeko asmoz, idazkerarako lexiko berriak imajinatuz.

Francisco de Goya hat uns mit seinen Aquatinta-Radierungen aus dem Jahr 1799, den Caprichos („Einfällen“), in Blatt 43 eine besonders eindringliche Mahnung hinterlassen. Das mit dem Titel „Der Schlaf der Vernunft gebiert Ungeheuer“ (span.: El sueño de la razón produce monstruos) versehene Blatt zeigt den schlafenden Maler, hinter welchem nächtliche Ungeheuer aufsteigen, nicht unähnlich einem Schwarm an Fledermäusen. Schützend beschirmen ihn gleichzeitig zwei Eulen, von denen die eine ihm eine Feder reicht, als wolle sie ihn zum wachen Tätigwerden drängen. Die Kunstkritik ordnet das Bild zunächst in den aufklärerischen Rahmen seiner Zeit ein, gleichsam als Programm gegen die monströsen Fantasien von Unvernunft und Laster, Ignoranz und Arroganz. 1810–1814 folgt eine zweite Sammlung an Aquatinta-Radierungen, betitelt „Die Schrecken des Krieges“, eine ungeschminkte Illustration der (un)menschlichen Gräuel im Kontext der politischen und sozialen Zustände seiner Zeit – gewissermaßen eine Kommentierung und Illustration der Folgen einer schlafenden Vernunft.

Abstract:
Collagen undergoes continuous non-enzymatic glycation during its long life period. The products resulting from the glycation reaction, so-called advanced glycation end products (AGEs), were regarded as potential pathogens of various diseases such as diabetic complications. Although several AGEs were identified from acid hydrolysates of glycated collagen, the major AGE(s) responsible for the diseases have not yet been fully characterized. Moreover, acid-labile constituents were decomposed during acid hydrolysis. To investigate these AGEs, we used the enzymatic hydrolysis method [Bensusan, Dixit and McKnight (1971) Biochim. Biophys. Acta 251, 100-108]. As a result, an acid-labile unknown compound was discovered from the digested glycated collagen. We identified this compound as NΩ-carboxymethylarginine (CMA) by matrix-assisted laster-desorption ionization-MS and NMR. CMA gradually increased in collagen during incubation with glucose and the yield reached about 8 mol/mol of collagen, which is 100 times higher than that of pentosidine. This result suggests that CMA is a major AGE in collagen.

Chiara Guidi, along with Romeo and Claudia Castellucci, was one of the founders in 1981 of Societas Raffaello Sanzio (now renamed Societas), the Italian company that, above any other, has been at the forefront of the international theatre scene since the early 1980s. She was the soul of dramatic rhythm and vocal composition for the company’s productions, directing numerous plays and researching each actor’s spoken part. Author and producer of sound theatre since the 1990s, she has also created an intense artistic experience with children as part of her research and analysis of the relationship between voice and childhood, which has earned her several awards, including an Ubu Prize in 2013. In this interview1 she discusses the early projects of Societas Raffaello Sanzio, which explored immersive, environmental performances for and with children – a line of research within the company’s multidirectional and overlapping experimental activity that she led. Dominika Laster is Associate Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of New Mexico. She is the author of Grotowski’s Bridge Made of Memory: Embodied Memory, Witnessing and Transmission in the Grotowski Work (2016), and is Executive Co-Director of the ‘Performance in the Peripheries’ initiative (see https://www.performanceperipheries.com).

PurposeThis paper is a clinical examination of the October 2013 Management Buyout of Dell Inc. by founder Michael Dell and Silver Lake Partners for a total consideration of $13.88 per share. The proposed transaction was targeted by shareholders unhappy with the deal price and voting framework. Various shareholders went on to file an appraisal suit. Examining these events yields insights into shareholder rights issues in a major transaction.Design/methodology/approachThe paper examines events surrounding the acquisition including the negotiation process, go-shop period, shareholder activist demands for a higher price, shareholder voting and the subsequent appraisal trial and appeal.FindingsDespite suggesting Dell's board fulfilled its fiduciary duties, Delaware Vice Chancellor Travis Laster awarded petitioning shareholders $17.62 per share, a 27% premium to the final deal consideration. This article draws on Laster's decision and research examining topics raised by the surrounding events to argue minority shareholder interests were not sufficiently protected.Research limitations/implicationsThe Dell transaction represents only one data point. Moreover, Vice Chancellor Laster's decision was reversed on appeal.Originality/valueNevertheless, the paper discusses the nuances surrounding many issues of interest to practitioners involving large going private transactions. It could also be used to illustrate many “real world” perspectives in an advanced corporate finance or mergers and acquisitions class.
