Abstract:
It is customary to assume that an indicator of a latent variable is driven by the latent variable and some random noise. In contrast, a background indicator is also systematically influenced by variables outside the structural model of interest. Background indicators deserve attention because in empirical work they are difficult to distinguish from ordinary effect indicators. This paper assesses instrumental variable (IV) estimation of the effect of a latent variable in a linear model when a background indicator replaces the latent variable. It turns out that IV estimates are inconsistent in m

Methods to handle ordered-categorical indicators in latent variable interactions have been developed, yet they have not been widely applied. This article compares the performance of two popular latent variable interaction modeling approaches in handling ordered-categorical indicators: unconstrained product indicator (UPI) and latent moderated structural equations (LMS). We conducted a simulation study across sample sizes, indicators’ distributions and category conditions. We also studied four strategies to create sets of product indicators for UPI. The article proposes to use the indicators of grades 5, 4, 3 to describe the probabilities of an examination grade. It is assumed that the probability of a value of each indicator depends on the latent parameters: the student's readiness to receive a grade corresponding to the indicator and the difficulty of receiving the corresponding grade on the exam. The probabilities of grades are determined depending on the probabilities of indicators. The probabilities of the indicator are determined depending on the values of the student and exam latent parameters. The maximum likelihood method is used

Given three quantitative indicators of a conjectured latent taxon, a statistical function defined as the covariance of two indicators (designated for the procedure as the “output” indicators) computed within successive intervals along the third (designated as “input”) indicator reveals whether the latent structure of the data is taxonic or not. If it is taxonic, latent parameters (base rate, hit rates, complement and taxon means) can be estimated, the latent distributions drawn, and subjects assigned to the taxon or the complement group. Abstract:
The question of what bibliometric indicator indicate has been discussed for several decades. Over that period, the use of indicators has increased, the number of indicators too, but the question of what the indicators exactly measure remains to be debated. In this paper we propose to approach it from the perspective of scale construction. Basically, this means that we interpret the publication-based and citation-based indicators as items that measure aspects of the scientific quality, but at the same time we accept that all these indicators are characterized by error. However, several indicato

Review question / Objective: Efficacy of Regimens in the Treatment of Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults: A Network Meta-Analysis. Condition being studied: Latent autoimmune diabetes mellitus (LADA) in adults is a highly heterogeneous autoimmune disease with clinical and genetic characteristics between Type 1 Diabetes(T1DM) and Type 2 Diabetes(T2DM), and therefore there are no uniform criteria for the selection of therapeutic agents. We conducted a web-based meta analysis to evaluate the efficacy of various therapeutic agents for LADA by comparing their effects on various indicators reflecti

Abstract:
Full information maximum likelihood (FIML) is an important approach to compensating for nonresponse in data analysis. Unfortunately, only a few software packages implement FIML and even fewer have the capability to compensate for missing not at random (MNAR) nonresponse. One of these packages is Statistical Innovations’ Latent GOLD; however, the user documentation for Latent GOLD provides no mention of this capability. The purpose of this paper is to provide guidance for fitting MNAR FIML models for categorical data items using the Latent GOLD 5.0 software. By way of comparison, we also provid

This involves conceptually and statistically modeling, through hands-on exercises, measurement as (a) the selection of indicators of latent constructs, (b) data collection as a psychological process of survey responding, and then (c) specifying and testing measurement models that are able to adequately reflect this process (using CFA). Day 1 offers a conceptual introduction and then a variety of hands-on applications are covered in Mplus on Day 2, and lavaan in R on Day 3. An official Instats certificat

Abstract:
The purpose of this document is to provide a comparative analysis of Latin-American government finance statistics including public expenditures, income, overall balances, and debt stocks. The paper explores some of the problems that arise in country comparisons and in regional harmonization of fiscal targets, an important issue when considering common goals of overall balances and public debt. The paper also discusses some of the new initiatives such as: applying accrual accounting and registering all variations of public net worth; including economic cycle and relative prices fluctuations in
