Nigeria is a sub-Saharan Africa country, its closeness to the equator precipitates tropical type of climate. The consequence of the alternating raining and dry seasons coupled with relatively high humidity throughout the year triggers severe chemical decay which causes rock rot in Ekiti area of SW Nigeria. Decomposition of rocks through intense in-situ chemical weathering and selective leaching resulted in prevalence of laterites, lateritic soils and saprolite in the area. The aim to develop a feasible method to extract Iron from Lateritic rock. The laterite samples were collected from Panirendawa, Pelpitigoda and Padukka. Mineralogy of the laterite was investigated by means of X -ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis, whereas chemical composition of the sample was determined by using Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). The pelletization process was used to enhance iron recovery. Economic viability is evaluated th

Lateritic soils vary significantly in their characteristics, depending on the laterisation process they have undergone. Due to this diversity, physicochemical and mechanical tests may be necessary to assess the feasibility of using laterite soil. This research aimed to carry out compaction tests on laterite soil with the incorporation of iron ore tailings sediment (IOTS), sand and cement to assess the mixture that would produce suitable results for rammed earth. It was concluded that sand and cement made a positive contribution to reducing the optimum compaction moisture and increasing the dry

The increasing amount of waste tyres worldwide made its disposal a significant problem. Because of this, the availability of a market for the tyres became imperative. Incidentally, this market was found in the housing sector where recycled waste tyres were used as stabilized laterite composite for alternative building material. This study evaluated the environmental effects of the recycled waste tyres as a composite of stabilized laterite for buildings. It also evaluated the cost effects of the stabilized laterite composite. The study concludes that the stabilized laterite composite is a cost-

Traditionally in coastal Karnataka, mud was used in residential construction, but due to its labour-intensive nature, the construction shifted to laterite stone in the mid-20th century. Presently, with the growing need for thermal comfort and interest in sustainable approaches, there is increased interest in traditional mud architecture. A study was conducted to understand how these two materials- Rammed earth and Laterite stone perform in their built environment in a warm and humid climate. The analysis of inner surface temperatures of the east wall showed that 45% of the temperature for ramm

This research centres on the need to develop a simple but sustainable material for the utilization of the quantum of plastic wastes that litter our environment. The research uses waste plastics and laterite soil and converts them into construction materials (interlock blocks) with the help of the densifier, thereby reducing the plastic waste, which is a key contributor to environmental pollution. Literature has shown that concrete structure is prone to chemical actions; the durability of conventional concrete bricks gets affected by chemical effects. The chemicals may cause cracking of concret

Abstract. This paper reports the result of investigations on the effect of water cement ratio and delay in casting on the workability and compressive strength characteristics of laterized concrete. Three mix ratios 1:1:2, 1:1.5:3, 1:2:4 and varying fine aggregate fraction replacements of sand with laterite amounting to 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% were investigated. Test result showed that the workability increases with increasing water cement ratio and decreases with increasing period of delay of casting. The compressive strength decreases with increasing water cement ratio. Delaying the castin
