Abstract:
This paper presents results of reliability estimates of field hydraulic conductivity for compacted lateritic soils as landfill liners. The estimates were made by incorporating a predictive model for hydraulic conductivity, which was developed from field data, into a FORTRAN-based first-order reliability program. At any given reliability level, the estimated hydraulic conductivities decreased as compactor weight, plasticity index, or initial saturation increased. However, the hydraulic conductivities increased as either gravel content or clay content increased. The results also showed that, at

Laterite is a soil which is having a high content of iron and aluminium and is mostly found in hot and wet tropical areas. They are formed through a process known as Laterization which is a combination of intensive and prolonged chemical process and leaching. The mineralogical compound of various samples of lateritic soils will be identified by carrying out microscopic analysis. The influence of mineralogical composition on bearing capacity will be investigated by carrying out laboratory scale load tests on model footings.

This research is concerned on the analysis of the sorption behavior of chloride and potassium íons, in potassium chloride compounds, by means of batch tests using lateritic soils and kaolinitic materials. The applied methodology consisted on the acquisition of representative samples of latossols, kaolinitic material and laboratorial procedures, where the samples were characterized according to their chemical, physical and mineralogical characteristics. Later on, batch tests were accomplished. The analytical results show that the chloride presents a higher mobility than the potassium for both s

For the first time, a granulometric analysis of lateritic soils was carried out and the sources of the substance involved in the formation of the degradation zone in the bauxite-bearing laterite profile of the bauxite-bearing province of Futa Jallon-Mandingo were identified. Throughout the province, on the stony rocks of the lateritic covers, the soil horizon occurs everywhere - the uppermost element of the vertical profile of the weathering crust. In the soil horizon, most of the components become mobile, leaching processes predominate, and laterites are mobilized and redistributed. The study

Grid-wise trend analysis using the Mann–Kendall (MK) trend test and Sen’s slope was conducted to determine the trends and their magnitudes. Thermomagnetic is one of the most commonly used measurements for determining the dominant type of magnetic mineral of samples. The measurement is separated into two distinct processes, heating and cooling. The sample susceptibility is measured for each temperature change, i.e., from room temperature to 700oC and vice-versa. Based on the thermomagnetic measurement results, magnetite is found to be the predominant magnetic minerals in Lake Matano sediments.
