Abstract:
This study aimed to describe the response of heart rate (HR) and the subjective rating of perceived exertion (RPE) during a simulated DanceSport competition. The mean and maximum HR of 18 dancers of the highest level were evaluated during a simulated DanceSport competition consisting of 5 Latin dances. RPE values were recorded immediately after each dance. The dances were ranked as follows according to the mean HR (samba [165.3 ± 16.3 bpm] < rumba bolero [176.9 ± 9.9 bpm] < cha-cha-chá [179.1 ± 11.4 bpm] = paso doble [182.5 ± 12.5 bpm] = jive [184.3 ± 11.4 bpm]); maximum HR (samba [185.6 ± 8.9 bpm] = rumba bolero [187.0 ± 9.1 bpm] < cha-cha-chá [190.1 ± 8.0 bpm] = paso doble [191.4 ± 9.0 bpm] < jive [194.2 ± 8.1 bpm]); and RPE (rumba bolero [5.22 ± 1.40] < samba [6.42 ± 2.06] = cha-cha-chá [6.78 ± 1.31] = paso doble [7.39 ± 1.04] < jive [8.33 ± 0.91]). The only significant correlation between RPE and HR values was observed for the maximum HR during the first dance of the competition (samba) (r = 0.485). A simulated DanceSport competition causes high physiological stress being influenced by the type of dance.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper addresses the problem of the quality of life of elderly people by presenting the energy of Latinos that arouses optimism in European citizens and provides them with joy through Latin dances on a regular basis. The research covered 163 people in the old, so-called third, age, from the European countries with the highest aging rate, namely: Italy, Germany, Greece and Poland. Results shows that physical activity in the form of Latin American dances has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the body. Not only does it allow for maintaining physical fitness and inhibiting the development of many ailments and diseases, but also stimulates the brain to constant activity, which results in improvement of the ability to make associations, concentration and, above all, memory. It is also a way to fill the gap that arises as a consequence of the completion of certain life stages. Through making new social contacts, it is possible to forget about loneliness, stagnation and the monotony of everyday life. However, above all, Latin dance is a source of satisfaction, joy and happiness, i.e., determinants of the quality of life.

Abstract:
We investigated whether there was more matching in personality traits, emotional intelligence, and social skills in better performing dance couples than in their less successful counterparts and if better- and lower-performing dancers individually have more equivalent personality traits, emotional intelligence, and social skills. Twenty-four dance couples (i.e. 24 male and 24 female dancers), performing both the Latin and standard dances at a competitive level, were included in the study. Among the measured metrics were: personality traits (using the Big Five Questionnaire), social skills (using the Interpersonal Skills Questionnaire), and emotional intelligence (using the Emotional Competence Questionnaire). When comparing differences between couples, results showed that the better dance couples were more orderly, agreeable and conscientious than the lower-performing dance couples who seemed to be more open. When comparing differences between individual dancers, results showed that the better-performing dancers tended to be older, more experienced, with a higher “competitive mileage” and better-trained bodies, more diligent with a firm belief in their success, confident in attaining their goals, and more motivated. They were also more emotionally stable – a trait that stemmed from their maturity and many years of competing. Findings obtained by our study will certainly allow us to view competitive dancers from a different, as yet undiscovered and potentially deeper viewpoint of psychology. One of the practical aspects of our research lies in understanding how to keep dance couples together for a longer time, allowing dancers to perform in unison for longer periods than would be otherwise possible.

Abstract:
The article considers the factors that affect the attitude of women of the first period of adulthood to dance aerobics. The significance of zumba dance aerobics classes is substantiated. Zumba is a physical activity that has been practiced in the world for almost 30 years. However, it has become very popular in the last decade. Most gyms offer this dance or something similar, as ZUMBA was patented by its inventor Alberto Perez. Zumba for weight loss is based on various Latin American rhythms, such as bachata, salsa, mirenga, cumbia and samba. These dances are combined with aerobic exercises to effectively support weight loss. During zumba, your body burns a lot of calories, toning muscles and gaining flexibility. In addition, these dances help to learn Latin rhythms in an interesting and accessible way for everyone, even children. Now there are variants of zumba in the water. Zumba a combines aerobic exercise and anaerobic. That is, in addition to intense exercise that makes you sweat, do not forget to strengthen muscles. The more muscle you have, the more you speed up your metabolism and the more calories you burn. The urgency of the topic is due to various factors of modern society, because scientific and technological progress and growing urbanization are constantly accelerating the life of the population, resulting in growing needs for recovery, relaxation and the desire to indulge in a favorite pastime. Therefore, in today's world, fitness is really increasingly used to improve well-being, raise morale and to adjust your body to further work. The survey was conducted for one month on the basis of the fitness club "Sport & Spa" in Kiev. 20 women aged 20 to 30 took part in the survey. The data analysis was used to identify the needs and motivations of women and to assess the attitudes of early adult women to Zumba classes.

Abstract:
The word ‘inscription’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Inscripto’ which means something that is inscribed or engraved. It was engraved on clay (terracotta), stone pillars, copper plates, walls of temples, caves, and on the surface of much other metal and also even palm leaves. Very often we’ve seen it on coins and seals. It consists of important texts or symbols that reveal crucial information and evidence of ancient kings and their empires. Music is the soul of Indian culture. Indian music has an affluent tradition with its root in Vedic time. It is said that Indian music owes its origin to the Sāma Veda. The Vedic hymns were chanted with a particular pitch and accent which are used in religious work. Dance in India also has a rich and vital tradition since the beginning of our civilization. Dances of Indi were to give symbolic expressions which are also enlightened to religious ideas. Ancient Inscriptions, Engraving of Inscription, Music, Dance, Epigraphical Evidence.

Abstract:
In this article, based on the analysis and systematization of literature sources, the method of judging couples at different stages of technical improvement is theoretically substantiated. The specificity of the European and Latin American program is manifested not only in the integration of sports, cultural, aesthetic and artistic activities, as a combination of sports and art, but also in a comprehensive approach to education and creative cultural environment, which helps to eliminate the traditional priority of physical development. spiritual formation of the person in the course of sports activity. In turn, the specificity of sports dances, in the field of dance sports, is determined by various motor actions, synchronously performed by dance duos accompanied by music. When moving on a parquet turns or rotations, rises and descents, inclinations, separate movements of arms and legs, heads, consecutive movements of separate parts of the case are connected in parallel or in series. As, the technique of judging of couples at different stages of technical improvement assumes detailed consideration of each period of time of performance of dancing couples.

Abstract:
SummaryFrom Ennius onwards, Latin poets have repeatedly described in their verses dances or processions of the seasons. When commenting on the regularity of their cycle or succession, they have given specific overtones to their pictures of this natural phenomenon, inspired by their own perception of life or by proper philosophical systems, such as pythagorism and epicureanism. A close examination and comparison of texts by Ennius, Lucretius, Horace, Ovid, and the anonymous authors of the Laus Pisonis and the Aetna, shows that these poets engaged into a mutual dialogue over the centuries. Not only did they establish a true Latin topos, but they also used it so as to give free rein to their originality, in full compliance with the ancient concept of creative mimesis.

This thesis investigates Brasil’s Nightclub, a Philadelphia salsa club, as a site at which notions of Latino/a identity are produced and performed. Research for the thesis was conducted over the course of five months and was ethnographic in nature. From February 2016 until June 2016, the author attended Brasil’s Nightclub and collected participant observations and interviews. Findings reveal how the club accommodates multiple conflicting narratives of Latino/a identity and how these narratives are embodied through salsa dance practices.

Abstract:
In Montreal, salsa dancing is both an expression of Latin identity and a cultural commodity. Many Montrealers of Latin descent adopt salsa dance as part of their cultural heritage only after arriving in Canada, connecting, through salsa, to a transnational Latin identity that crosses the Americas. This situation illustrates how cultural affiliations are not necessarily fixed, but can be acquired in response to changing circumstances. Since salsa is not indigenous to the city, residents of Montreal can only access it through cultural institutions and community media outlets. This commodification influences the manner in which salsa expresses Latin identity in the city. At the same time that salsa dancing proclaims Latin identity for certain individuals in the city, the practice thrives in a multicultural context: the Montreal salsa scene comprises diverse individuals who promote, teach, and dance salsa. This dissertation addresses points of division and cooperation among diverse cultures, ethnicities, races, and both sexes, as they are played out in aspects of salsa dancing in the city. The unfolding of these relationships is influenced by both the commodification of salsa dancing and its link to Latin culture. This analysis seeks to provide a theoretical account of the tension between salsa's expression of identity and its status as a commodified cultural practice. This perspective integrates various approaches to the study of dance and culture stemming from anthropology, sociology and cultural studies. Analyzing the Montreal salsa scene, I draw from in-depth interviews with individuals involved in the promotion of Latin dance and music, as well as participant observations in salsa dance classes, clubs and events. The methodology of this research combines ethnography with various areas of concern: the history of salsa, Latin immigration patterns in Montreal, theories of multiculturalism, transnationalism and diaspora, the Latin influence in ballroom dance, Europe

Domene, Pablo A. "Efficacy of Latin dance as a health-enhancing leisure activity for adults." Thesis, Kingston University, 2015. http://eprints.kingston.ac.uk/34532/.

Full text
Abstract:
Despite acceptance that physical activity serves as a protective agent against the burden of non-communicable disease, half of all adults in the developed world remain insufficiently physically active. The promotion of physical activity is therefore of paramount importance to public health researchers and practitioners. Dance, as a leisure or social activity, can play a role in the engagement of adults in physically active pursuits that are not necessarily thought of as traditional exercise per se. This is especially important for those individuals not currently meeting physical activity guidelines and is fully congruent with the current public health message that "some activity is better than none". A holistic exploration of Latin dance was undertaken in this thesis in the context of physical activity and psychosocial health promotion in non-clinical adults. The research encompassed a quantitative assessment of physiological and psychological measures related to dance. Over a 3 yr period, eighty-four women and men were enrolled in a series of four interrelated Latin dance (salsa) and Latin-themed aerobic dance (Zumba fitness) studies. Research grade motion sensing and heart rate monitors were used to evaluate the physiological responses to dance, and a novel activity-specific value calibration method was developed to process the data. The monitors, which are small and unobtrusive to wear, were then utilised for collection of data during performance of dance in naturalistic settings. Psychological measures associated with dance participation were captured using previously validated questionnaires. Results indicate that Latin dance elicits physiological responses representative of moderate to vigorous physical activity when performed primarily for leisure purposes. Modest improvements were observed post-dance in measures of cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and inflammatory biomarkers in relation to cardiovascular health. Moreover, participation fostered interest, enjoyment, and a positive psychological outlook, and enhanced well-being, mood, and health-related quality of life with large magnitude effects. The findings of this thesis may be relevant for researchers and practitioners interested in the efficacy of dance as an expressive and creative medium for the promotion of physical and mental health.

Limon, Elvia. "The Struggling Dance: The Latino Journalist Experience Covering Hispanic and Latino Communities in Dallas." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2017. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc984266/.

Abstract:
This qualitative study addresses how the Dallas Morning News and Al Día reporters and editors determine what type of news related to the Dallas Latino and Hispanic communities gets covered. It also looks into how and why each newspaper tackles the coverage of these communities. Through a systematic analysis of 8 in-depth interviews and a 6-month ethnography, the findings of this study suggest that Latino and Hispanic journalists in Dallas feel the Latino and Hispanic communities are regarded as the "other." This study suggests the newsroom's hegemony and its news production routines influence the way Latino and Hispanic communities are covered in Dallas, and the way Latino and Hispanic reporters and editors who primarily cover these communities are treated. Though the newsrooms have made an effort to diversity its staff, reporters and editors claim they still have a long way to go before the staff accurately represents the large Hispanic and Latino population in the city.

Abstract:
This thesis explore the experiences of heteronormativity of six ballroom dancers. Their own thoughts on different roles and meaning behind the dances have been captured in interviews. Later translated and analysed through Queer theory and Erving Goffmans dramaturgical perspective theory where he enlightens us about his perspective on social situations as performances based upon the conviction of persuasion. Discovering that heteronormativity lives within the sport as traditions from past times and upheld by rules and guidelines, and attitudes expressed by the dancers. The dancers themselves agree on changing the rules of the sport is making the meaning of ballroom dancing less accurate matching the history of the sport which seems to be the pillar of ballroom dancing. Heteronormativity is the main subject of this thesis.

Abstract:

This research focuses on the life and work of Jose Limon, (1908-1972), one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century modern concert dance. The way in which his Mexican and immigrant heritage influenced his unique contribution to American modern dance will be discussed in relation to three of his works: Danzas Mexicanas (1939), La Malinche (1949), and Missa Brevis (1948). As a dancer of Mexican heritage, I seek to better understand my artistic path and potential through this study of Jose Limon. The introduction includes a brief description of Jose Limon's personal and professional life, and my connection to it as a Latina dance artist. The first three chapters present analysis of three Limon choreographies selected because they exemplify his deeply rooted and personal invocations of Mexican culture and an introspective relationship to self-identity and community. The final chapter is a description of my thesis concert inspired by Jose Limon's life and work. The sources of information used in this work are books, academic articles, newspapers, archival documents, magazines, and photographs. This thesis includes interviews with artists who worked with Limon, danced in his company, and continue to dedicate their artistic endeavors to his work.

Abstract:
For dancers to look mostly effective, they need to move as a single body, maintaining a smooth movement along with the music, despite changing directions. Each movement should be more amplified than usual, but with gentle footwork and elegant posture. The slightest deficiency in some ability due to fatigue is a determining factor in whether the dancers will enter the next round. Research aim is to analyze the literature and to reveal Latin American dancers training peculiarities.

Vamos falar de política educacional na América Latina e no Caribe #7: Os avanços da educação no Brasil estão em risco?: Desafios e recomendações para reduzir o impacto da pandemia. Abstract:

Abstract:
Available data provide a picture for the macro-economy of Colombia, agriculture, and infrastructure. Recent data on trends on public procurement were difficult to find within the scope of this rapid review. In 2020, macro-level employment figures show a large drop between February and April when COVID-19 lockdown measures were first introduced, followed by a gradual upward trend. In December 2020, the employment rate was 4.09 percentage points lower than the employment rate in December 2019. Macro-level figures from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) show that a higher percentage of men experienced job losses than women in November 2020. However, the evidence presented by the Universidad Nacional de Colombia based on the DANE great integrated house survey shows that a higher proportion of all jobs lost were lost by women in the second quarter. It may be that the imbalance shifted over time, but it is not possible to directly compare the data. Evidence suggests that women were disproportionately more burdened by home activities due to the closure of schools and childcare. There is also a suggestion that women who have lost out where jobs able to function during lockdowns with technology are more likely to be held by men. Literature also shows that women have lower levels of technology literacy. There is a lack of reliable data for understanding the economic impacts of COVID-19 for people living with disabilities. A report on the COVID-19 response and disability for the Latin America region recommends improving collaboration between policymakers and non-governmental organisations. Younger people experienced greater job losses. Data for November 2020 show 3.3 percent of the population aged under 25 lost their job compared to 1.8 percent of those employed between 24 and 54. Agriculture, livestock, and fishing increased by 2.8% in 2020 compared to 2019. And the sector as a whole grew 3.4% between the third and fourth quarters of 2020. In terms of sector differences, construction was harder hit by the initial mobility restrictions than agriculture. Construction contracted by 30.5% in the second quarter of 2020. It is making a relatively healthy recovery with reports that 84% of projects being reactivated following return to work. The President of the Colombian Chamber of Construction predicting an 8.4% growth in the construction of housing and other buildings in 2021.
