Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to contribute to the knowledge of the components of the latex, a milky fluid exudated from the Mediterranean shrub Euphorbia characias. The antioxidant and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activities were explored in E. characias. The latex was extracted using several conventional methods and a new procedure involving the use of the trichloroacetic acid. The results of this research indicate that E. characias latex exhibits antioxidant activities, is rich in total polyphenolic and flavonoids content and exhibited substantial inhibition of acetylcholinest

Abstract:
This thesis presents experimental as well as theoretical studies on several contemporary systems like quantum spin liquids (QSLs), skyrmion lattices, and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) under extreme conditions like low temperature (down to 4K) and ultra high pressures (up to 26 GPa). Temperature-dependent Raman studies are carried out to investigate Raman signatures of Kitaev quantum spin liquid (QSL) state of Cu2IrO3 and Ag3LiIr2O6 and orbital ordering in Heisenberg quantum magnet Ca10Cr7O28. High-pressure studies are performed on Kitaev QSL candidates -RuCl3, Cu2IrO3, kagomé

Abstract:
In the last few decades an enormous amount of research has been carried out on some novel phases of matter called topological phases which are beyond the paradigm of Landau’s theory of symmetry breaking. One of the earliest breakthroughs in this field was the discovery of the quantum Hall effect. A topological system has some properties which are immune to slight perturbations which obey the symmetries of the unperturbed system. Topological systems can be characterised by means of a topological invariant, such as the Chern number in two-dimensional systems. Topological phases can be foun

Abstract:
A magnetic system usually orders ferro- or anti-ferromagnetically at temperatures comparable to interaction strength between the spins. Moreover, an interacting spin system tends to order with the increase of dimensionality of the magnetic lattice, as determined by the spin-spin correlation along various directions. However, there are certain lattice types where such orderings are strongly suppressed. A prototypical example is the Ising spin-1/2 on a triangular lattice with a nearest neighbour antiferromagnetic interaction where the triangular arrangement results in competing interaction

Abstract:
Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures, where dissimilar atomically thin vdW crystals are vertically assembled, have initiated a new paradigm to create flexible multifunctional devices. Despite the weak nature of vdW interactions, unusually strong interlayer coupling and hybridization in these heterostructures lead to novel physical phenomena ranging from interfacial stress fields to modification of electronic band structure. In twisted van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs), the angular mismatch between two similar lattices generates a large-scale interference pattern, known as the moiré patter
