As cerâmicas de carbeto de silício, SiC, possuem excelentes propriedades físicas, químicas e mecânicas, fazendo com que as mesmas tenham um vasto campo de aplicações. Devido à natureza altamente covalente do SiC, este possui baixo coeficiente de autodifusão, dificultando sua sinterização via fase sólida. The effects of La2O3, Ga2O3 and GeO2 content on the properties and structure of the lanthanum gallogemanate glasses were evaluated. The IR spectra of these glasses suggest that Ga amd/or Ge might present tetrahedra (fourfold coordination) and octahedra (sixfold coordination). These glasses are transparent over frequencies ranging from the near ultraviolet (0.35μm) to the mid-IR (6~7μm) and show ionic bond behavior in their structure.
