A quadriceps active technique was compared to a passive protocol at four knee flexion angles: 60, 70, 80 and 90 degrees. Eight ACL and eight PCL injured subjects performed active and passive anterior-posterior knee drawer tests. These tests were performed during two sessions to verify their reliability. Posterior and anterior laxity were recorded for the PCL and the ACL injured subjects, respectively. Laxity was measured at forces o

Moreover, the role of anatomy has been investigated also regarding the genesis of joint laxity, but only in cadaveric models or with static radiographic studies. Generalized joint laxity (GJL), a condition in which most joints of the body move beyond the accepted normal range of motion, is present in many ballet and modern dancers. It has been associated with an increased risk of injury, decreased muscle strength, and greater landing forces. Increased joint laxity results in joint instability and may precede the development of osteoarthritis, which is associated with a reduction in cartilage thickness. We hypothesized that dancers with GJL would have decreased hip cartilage thickness, as well as greater hip adduction angles and greater ground reacti

The human knee is a hinge joint, primarily facilitating locomotion. Knee joint instability, due to ligament injuries, is a result of direct or indirect trauma, non-anatomical stresses during pivoting movements about the knee, imbalanced landing during jumping and rapid deceleration during high intensity locomotion. Biomechanical indications of an unstable knee joint include decreased joint integrity, hyperlaxity, abrupt locking and catching combined with clicking noises during locomotion. Approximately, two hundred and fifty thousand ACL injuries occur in the United States of America annually.
