Abstract:
This study examined the effects of fresh crude extract from 215 plants on the mortality rate of third-instar larvae of Aedes aegypti after a 24-hour exposure. Twenty five plants demonstrated a high mortality rate (up to 80%) at five different concentrations. The LC50, LC90, and LC95 values of the tested plants showed that 15 plants were with 100% larvicidal potential. Stemona tuberosa showed the highest efficacy against Aedes larvae having LC50 = 3.78, LC90 = 7.51, and LC95 = 7.97, while Jatropha gossypifolia showed the lowest efficacy i.e., LC50 = 6.58, LC90 =11.23, and LC95 = 11.31. The black aphid Aphis craccivora Koch (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is pointed out as one of the main pests of cowpea, causing injuries through the suction of sap on the plants. Conventional control involves the use of systemic chemical pesticides, which, from indiscriminate use, can cause contamination of the environment, applicators and other people, causing the selection of resistant insect populations. In view of this scenario, this study proposes to evaluate the toxicity, repellency and impact on population growth of A. craccivora when exposed to neem and manipueira extract. Leaf discs of cowpea

Abstract The efficacy of filming amines as corrosion inhibitors and dispersants in steam systems is well-documented. A novel formulation retains these functions of traditional filming amines and adds molluscicide capability for controlling macrofouling in fresh water and sea water. Criteria for this development included low toxicity to mammals and to non-target aquatic species, rapid biodegradation, and multifunctionality. Low mammalian toxicity and lack of other hazards exempt it from reporting requirements under SARA Title 3. Toxicity (LC50) levels for rainbow trout and fathead minnow are hi

There is a need for a reliable staining technique to distinguish between live and dead organisms following LC50 tests. This is especially so in cases where organisms can be stressed or even become unconscious and appear dead to the aided or naked eyes. Visual observations under such conditions can result in an LC50 value shifting to the lower concentration thereby imposing stiffer guidelines for compliance. Aniline blue can only stain individuals which are physiologically dead imposing an accurate live-dead evaluation and producing a true LC50 value. Guidelines imposed using such data will fac

Background: Surfactants best known for their use in the industry of detergents, household products, and cosmetics. Usually, the amount of released surfactants into the environment is diluted during secondary water treatment. However, there is always a risk of releasing untreated and polluted wastewater containing high amounts of surfactants without knowing the harmful effect on biotic and abiotic elements of the environment. SAPDMA is a surfactant that is used mostly in cosmetics, conditioning agents, and recently in corrosion inhibition. The classification of SAPDMA as a “safe” or “green” sur

In this study, zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos was served as a model for marine fauna to determine if there is any potential of organ-specific toxicity (neuromuscular, hepatic, cytotoxic, and cardiac) caused by Silicone-Q-22 and Ploy-Q-47. as both surfactants are considered eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors. The calculated LC50 of Silicon-Q-22 and Poly-Q-47 was 22.36 and 8.28 mg/L, respectively. At NOEC both surfactants had resulted in teratogenic defects and cardiotoxicity, but only poly Q-47 resulted in neurotoxicity.
