Abstract:

Normalization is an optional part in a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study. The aim of this work is to explore the options available for normalization and to propose updated reference values. The work provides an insight of the current and proposed normalization practices. It clarifies the valuable role that normalization can play in informing the interpretation phase of LCA, by answering the question whether the order of magnitude of the results is plausible, and by easing discussion and communication of the results.
