Khan, Ashraf Reza. "Preparation and characterization of lead lanthanum titanate thin films by metalorganic decomposition." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1994. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/42122.

Abstract:

There is a critical need for materials with very high dielectric constant to be integrated in the next generation of 64- and 256-Mb ULSI DRAMs. Materials in the Pb-based perovskite family have high relative permittivities and have consequently attracted a world wide attention. Cubic Lead Lanthanum Titanate (PLT) is one of the prime candidates in this respect and its structure and properties in the thin film form were investigated in the present study, for potential application in the ULSI DRAMs.

Thin films of Lead Lanthanum Titanate corresponding to 28 atomic percentage of lanthanum

Klock, Brian Lee. "Deceptive robots." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1990. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/42193.

Abstract:

Plan recognition in cooperative or adversarial situations requires the ability to reason with beliefs. The problem is complicated in adversarial situations because an opponent may employ deception. In this case, an agent must also be able to reason about an opponent's beliefs (nested beliefs) as well as his own beliefs. A system has been developed that permits agents to reason with nested beliefs using possible worlds semantics; consistency maintenance is employed to allow agents to revise their beliefs when an inconsistency occurs. The advantages over prior systems are that belief revision

King, Peter Samuel. "A parametric study of the hydrodynamic stability theory of 3-D compressible free shear flows." Diss., Virginia Tech, 1991. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/39703.

Full text
Abstract:
In this study, a new and efficient numerical algorithm is developed to solve both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional compressible hydrodynamic stability problem. A parametric study of free shear flows with two or more supersonic streams is performed. Flows examined included shear layers, jets/wakes, and various geometrical combinations of these flows. The effect of Mach number on the stability characteristics of the flow is studied and found to confirm the work of other researchers who found that increasing the relative (or convective) Mach number increases the stability of the flow. Kim, Young Jun. "Kinetic and mechanistic investigations of polyimide formation and characterization of their blends with polybenzimidazoles." Diss., Virginia Tech, 1992. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/37417.

Abstract:
This dissertation describes kinetic and mechanistic studies of high performance polyimide formation, synthesis and characterization of fully cyclized, molecular weight and end group controlled polyimides, and investigations of high performance polymer blends based upon polyimides and polybenzimidazole. Imidization kinetics were successfully followed by the quantitative non-aqueous titration of the amic acid functional groups as a function of reaction conditions. The homogeneous solution imidization processes were described by auto-acid catalyzed second order kinetics. The effects of heteroa

Kim, Changkyun. "Application of user equilibrium traffic assignment in evacuation modelling." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1991. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/41496.

Full text
Abstract:

The Mass Evacuation (MASSVAC) model was originally developed for analysis and evaluation of evacuation plan in a specific area facing natural disasters. It was later applied to deal with the problems of evacuation around nuclear power stations (MASSVAC 3.0). The purpose of this model is to simulate the network clearance time and evacuation routes. In the process, it employs the Dial's or the all-or-nothing method to assign the traffic on to the network.

The major effort in this research is to include the user equilibrium assignment method to reduce the evacuation times and to improve
