This paper sets forth a criticism of a certain interpretation of the influence of Michel de Montaigne s skepticism on the philosophy of René Descartes. This interpretation is upheld by Alexandre Koyré and Etienne Gilson, and leads to the conclusion that Montaigne, while searching for a kind of certainty about himself in the Writings and abandoning his search for certainty in the world, ultimately encounters nothing other than doubt. Descartes would be the overcoming of Montaigne s failure, with Discourse on the Method being a victorious text. Nonetheless, we shall demonstrate that Montaigne did not fail in his Essays, nor was his supposed skepticism responsible for having an overwhelming influence on Cartesian philosophy

Full textIs the disabled person a person ? the question may seem scandalous but it is essential when you notice the gap between the media exposure and the stalking of which it is the object. Paradigm of lack, the handicapped person is also a contemporary monster, so named to differentiate himself from him. With Ulysses, we will begin to think about the concept of person in its relation to logos to continue with Boethius, Kant to note, by the actuality of eugenics, by the invention of the concepts of human person and human non-human. nobody, the persistence of our doubt as to the person's status of the disabled. Care as a tool of encounter with the person and in particular with the person with a disability helps us to reconnect with a certain sacrality of the body and therefore to reconsider the being of the person being cared for. The study of concern with Heidegger, then, shows the link he has with man, with death and with time, the last bastion to the control of man over himself. If the care makes it possible to meet the person, there remains a certain ontological fragility of the handicap which puts him in permanent danger. Despite this persistent fragility, is it really possible not to recognize the person in every human being with a disability ?

Full textThe chronological study of Samuel Beckett's fiction shows the constitution of an original topography. In the first narratives, written in English, "Dream of fair to middling women" and "More pricks than kicks", the hero is an alter ego of the Irish writer. The story is set in Dublin where he lived as a child and as a young man. Beckett describes his country in a realistic way and writes in a complex style, influenced by his compatriot James Joyce. The hero feels both love and disgust towards his native country. In the next novels - Murphy and Watt - Beckett develops two important items: solipsism and madness. In "Watt" and in the first narratives in French, the landscape becomes anonymous but still evokes Ireland. At the same time, in the short stories written in French after W. W. II and later called nouvelles, the fictional hero is also the narrator. In the "Molloy" – "Malone dies" – "The unnamable" trilogy, the narrator becomes the one who is writing the text that we are reading, and we are brought to think that he is Beckett himself. But the one who speaks, the one who writes here, is obviously not Samuel Beckett, the man who lives in our world. He is located elsewhere. From the trilogy on, Beckett - in his prose works - is trying to describe this place "elsewhere". But this place is "unspeakable" because the writer has nothing but the "language of others" to describe it. The writer can only speak of his own exile, far from the world of others. Evoking the world in a kind of distance is the only way - for the writing part of Beckett - to evoke his own place. That's why Beckett writes about our world with so much nostalgia and so much art. In his advancing years, his prose works are looking more and more like poetry and the own place of the writer must probably be looked for directly in the text considered as a space

Abstract: This dissertation presents the result of a morfosyntactic description on the Laklãnõ (Xokleng) language. The people homonym, speaker of the Laklãnõ, only meets in the State of Santa Catarina (Southern Brazil), in the only territorial area of this ethnic group in the country. Its land is known as Indigenous Land Laklãnõ - Ibirama, and is located partially in four municipalities: José Boiteux, Vítor Meireles, Doutor Pedrinho, and Itaiópolis. The Laklãnõ language belongs to the linguistic family Jê, of the Macro-Jê stock, and have grammatical traces in common with another languages that compose this family. This dissertation presents some preliminary and general information on the Phonology and Syntax of the language for carrying then through the description of some morfosyntactics aspects. Amongst the described aspects, the word's classes (name, verb, pronoun, and article) and the order of the constituents in the independent clauses. With regard to the order in the independent sentences, intransitives, transitives and bi-transitives had been analyzed. By this analysis, it is considered that the basic order of the assertive clauses in Laklãnõ is SOV. However, even in assertives, the structure can vary, dislocating the Subject, but never changing the position of the Direct Object in relation to the Verb. A preliminary survey was experienced to show the syntactic-semantic relations between the marks of Subject and the marks of Aspect

Full textWith the exception of his plays, almost all the works of Raymond Roussel are written in the first person. However, this "I" almost never has a role as a character in the plot, but rather functions as a mere onlooker or describer of the events. In fact, since as soon as the story gets underway the "I" tends to disappear, the appearence of the word itself in his work is rare. That is, Roussel's "I" is simply a device, a pretext for the purpose of recounting the story. Nevertheless, the fact that Roussel almost always wrote in the first person strongly suggests that there is definitely some deep significance behind this usage. In this thesis, we attempt from a variety of perspectives to make clear the meaning of the "I" in Roussel's work. His narratives progress solely in the first person, completely lacking in a 'foil' or a 'sense of otherness'. It is perhaps apt to say that this use of the first person is for the specific expression of the, in every respect, pure and homogenous unity that is the focus of Roussel's creativity. We approach the issue of the "I" in Roussel's work from three perspectives. .

Full textTaking into account the fact that, in spite of its relatively recent expansion, very few books have offered an overall study on filmic autobiography, this thesis is dedicated to the analysis of films in which a convergence between documentary and autobiography can be observed, in order to delimit a coherent corpus, we will focus our attention on films that record filmmakers' lives, place them in the fore-ground, privilege sync-sound conversations, encourage "documentarizing reading," and inscribe themselves in a tradition linked to direct cinema and cinema-vcritc. What do autobiography and documentary reveal about each other? and about personal identity? How does the interaction of these two ideas lead to their reinvention? After tracing the theoretical and practical beginnings of autobiographical documentaries, my thesis examines a large body of films (by Agnès Varda, Ross McElwee, Dominique Cabrera, Ed Pincus, David Perlov, Alain Cavalier, Jonathan Caouette, Johan van der Keuken. . . ) from four angles: enunciation, narration, rhetoric, and ethics. All these films appear as a field of fertile tensions, laboratories in which filmmakers trouble documentary as a practice and set of conventions, criticize their lives and the institutions that underpin them, link ways of viewing and being, and promote a "care of the self” (Foucault) and an ipseite based on the model of "the promise kept" (Ricoeur), striving for transformation of oneself and others

Full textPaul Ricœur is a scholar-type philosopher with a lot of thoughts. Domestic research on his thoughts is still in its infancy, and many researches have not yet followed an unified train of thought. This research tries to take the philosophical anthropological category of the basic human ability in Ricœur’s thought as a brand new context to investigate the important role of imagination in human innovation. We discuss a kind of “I can” poetics around the four basic abilities according to Ricœur, namely, the ability to speak, the ability to narrate, the ability to act, and the ability to be responsible. This kind of poetics directly focuses on the poetic dimensions of language, narrative, action and ethics as well as the role of imagination in them

Full textThe semantic field of the emotions which refers to bad feelings towards the others is well developed, both in French and in Polish, but the equivalent semantic fields are structured differently. Situated in the research line about the linguistic picture of the world, and inspired more particularly by Anna Wierzbicka's works, the thesis aims to semantically describe feelings like hatred, contempt, despite, etc. , in French and Polish. First, the thesis questions various classifications of the concepts of the emotional domain as well as the generic names and verbs of this domain, with an aim of releasing a natural and dynamic categorization. This is followed by a study of the emotional predicates according to the parameter of agentivity which appears to be fundamental in the structuring of the emotional domain. The parameter "agentivity", in the particular meaning that David Dowty gives to it, confirms the conclusions on the organization of the emotional field, namely that the expressions of the affects can be considered as agentive predicates (they are then feelings) as well as non-agentive predicates (they are then emotions). Finally the particular affects chosen are analyzed in two parallel chapters which treat successively French and Polish affective expressions. The affects, being complex concepts, are analyzed on the one hand respect to their predicative structure and on the other hand, according to their components (cognitive, emotional and physical). Results of these analyses are then compared and an unified model of description of affective concepts is proposed. The thesis ends with the interrogation about the aspectual nature of affective concepts

Full textIn this thesis, I envisage the Peruvian writer Alfredo Bryce Echenique's work from the angle of a questioning about what masculine and feminine genders are. Through the writings of Pierre Bourdieu, Elisabeth Badinter, Francoise Héritier and Simone de Beauvoir; and with the help of psychoanalysis, I define the problem of the gender as essential in Alfredo Bryce Echenique 's work. I rely on the "autobiographical " aspect of this work to try to bring to light a cycle that corresponds to the works the writer wrote while he was in Europe, that is to say between 1964 and 1999. This cycle, as I conceive it, shows how the writer progressively reveals himself to the reader, to finally assert a "gendered" identity which is marked by the calling into question of definite generic categories. I envisage the writer's literary route as the claiming of a right to difference, and as a calling into question of qualities and attitudes traditionally considered as "naturally" suitable for men and women. According to my hypothesis, this progressive assertiveness facilitates his return to Peru, his country he left because, among other things, of his father's opposition to his vocation for writing
