Abstract:
ABSTRACT: In the year 1585 the flemish painter Hans Bol made the series of twelve drawings with evangelical themes related with the twelve months of the year and the twelve signs of the zodiac. That same year the engraver Adriaen Collaert engraved in copper the series with the title of Emblemata evangelica ad XII signa coelestia sive totidem ani menses accommodata, which is what served to give diffusion to the work. However, Hans Bol’s original drawings were always in private collections until 2014 when the King Baudouin Foundation of Brussels acquired them and published a work about the drawings and the first series of engravings. In this study, we make known this publication to researchers in the Spanish language and several incomplete series inspired by the Evangelical Emblemata are analyzed. KEYWORDS Hans Bol; Adriaen Collaert; Abel Grimmer; Diego Quispe Tito; Emblemata evangelica.

Abstract:
Radiolaria of the family Palaeoscenidiidae were recovered from two bedded-limestone and two limestone-concretion samples from the upper Llandovery of the Cape Phillips Formation, Cornwallis Island, Arctic Canada. The new genus Insolitignum is defined by two apical rays, three basal rays, and a principal ray in an intermediate position. The principal ray distinguishes this genus from Palaeoephippium. Insolitignum dissimile, the type species of the new genus, was previously placed in Palaeoephippium. New species described here are Insolitignum peranima, Insolitignum vivanima, and Palaeoephippium adraini.

Abstract:
La redécouverte récente (1983) des "Pseaumes de David,. . . A quatre parties », par Cl. Goudimel.
The late rediscovery (1983) of "Pseaumes de David. . . A quatre parties » par Cl. Goudimel. Nouvellement mis en tablature sur le Leut par Adrian Le Roy-Paris, Le Roy-Ballard, 1567" has enabled us to study the melodies of calvinist psalms in three aspects. Part I is a modal analysis of these melodies coming after a description of the stages of their composition. Part II deals with Claude Goudimel's activity, suggests a method to analyze harmonizations "nota contra nota" and applies it to those of psalms made by Goudimel. Part III presents printer-lute-player : Adrian Le Roy, psalms "set in tablatures" for the lute and the influence of Goudimel's harmonizations on Le Roy's tablatures. This study tackles problems of musical typography : mutual influences of printers while composing the 1562 monodic psalter ; Le Roy's role in page-setting the lute tablatures and the musical alterations entailed. Those reflections on typography are to be found in the form of appendices gathered in a second volume presenting also a list of musical characters used in Paris in the sixteenth century as well as part of the material in Le Roy and Ballard's workshop. Tables, indexes and documents related to the huguenot psalter, its harmonizations, both in four parts "nota contra notam" and for the lute, complete this volume. The third volume gives the modern transcription of Le Roy's psalms of 1567. The principles of transcription respect the norms of the "corpus des luthistes français"

Thesis, Poitiers, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014POIT5016.

Abstract:
The french repertory printed during the second half of the sixteenth century and at the beginning of the seventeenth century is rich of many musical objects. If in the first half of the sixteenth century, the term « chanson » is the only title used in the editions, other denominations appear from 1552 as « chanson en forme de voix de ville », « ode », « chanson en façon d'air », « air de cour », « air », « dialogue », « sonnet », « Amours », « poésie », « quatrain », « chansonnette mesurée », « villanelle », « mascarade », « ballet », « récit » or « vers mesurez ». These denominations don't designate necessarly differents musical objects : for exemple, during the sixteenth century a same work could sometime be named « chanson » and « ode ». This observation tends to suppose that these terms don't designate indepedant categories. On the contrary, these headings are porous, and their outlines seems sometime vague, in particular because the renaissance music theorists don't define the terms used in the prints. For this reason, the goal of this dissertation consist to observe and understand what are the editorial and musical realities which tally with the classifications and the terms used in the collections. Thus, we would like to highlight the role of the music printer in the making of the book, and to wonder what is the part he takes in the musical mutations

Abstract:
This chapter describes Rollini's side activities while he had a contract with Bert Lown. He was in demand as a party in recording sessions for his musical ideas, his ability to contribute a thorough bass line together with swinging solos. His first date was with a small group directed by piano player Rube Bloom.Next was Leo Reisman's large dance band, which through the addition of ex-Duke Ellington trumpet player Bubber Miley, produced some outstanding recordings. Others included Red Nichols and Miff Mole as well as a row of singers: Jack Kaufman, Jack Miller, Lee Morse, Buddy Rogers, and Eddie Walters and Ethel Waters. There were follow-up dates with Rube Bloom, Annette Hanshaw, and Joe Venuti. His side jobs made Rollini a busy man.

Abstract:
Drawing on the cultural tradition of the martyr as a figure whose suffering confirms the truth of his testimony to a cause, this chapter examines the precarious terms on which singular individuals are allowed – or called upon – to speak for themselves and others. Moving from live art practices of self-injury where blood is really flowing through performative renditions of endurance to works which invoke the logic of the confessional, it examines the narratives of self-sacrifice and redemption which surround martyrdom – and the contemporary works which challenge their logic. Featured practitioners: Ron Athey, Kira O’Reilly, Franko B, Eddie Ladd, Adrian Howells, Scottee.
