The implementation of a deposit insurance scheme entails a trade off. On one hand, as shown in theoretical and empirical studies, a deposit insurance scheme reduces the likelihood of a bank run. On the other hand, a deposit insurance scheme induces moral hazard among bankers that may lead to bank failures. We rigorously test the effect of different deposit coverage limit and the implementation of a differential premium treatment on bankers’ behaviors in the deposit and credit market. We do so by designing a laboratory experiment that involves real bankers as participants. We find that the cove

Contrary to the subadditivity assumption, bank mergers can create extra risk. We begin with an analysis how a merger affects depositors, junior or senior bank creditors, and bank owners. Next it is shown that bank mergers can result in higher payouts having to be made by the deposit insurance scheme. Finally, we demonstrate that if banks are interconnected via interbank loans, a bank merger could lead to additional contagion risks. We conclude that the subadditivity assump

The power management capabilities of hybrid energy storage systems offer several advantages for EVs, including improved performance, longer battery life, and reduced cost. HES technologies which combine Li-ion cells with ultra-capacitors (UC), are developing as just a possible alternative to the constraints of conventional ESS for conserving electricity. Lithium-ion batteries have a limited cycle life, meaning that they gradually degrade with each charge-discharge cycle. This can reduce the overall lifetime of the ESS and require more frequent replacements, adding to the cost and environmental

Abstract. Using the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) general circulation model (CCM2), a suite of alternative cloud radiation parameterizations has been tested. Our methodology relies on perpetual July integrations driven by ±2 K sea surface temperature forcing. The tested parameterizations include relative humidity based clouds and versions of schemes involving a prognostic cloud water budget. We are especially interested in testing the effect of cloud optical thickness feedbacks on global climate sensitivity. All schemes exhibit negative cloud radiation feedbacks, i.e., cloud

The sample carried back by the Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV) is a potential flagship mission of deep space exploration in recent years. A low-gravity simulation experiment is an effective method and a necessary stage for verifying the performance of the MAV launch dynamic in Earth’s gravity. In this paper, the uniqueness of low-gravity simulation is illustrated by the classical pulley balance method for the high dynamic process of a test model of the MAV. Its movement direction is the same as the compensation force, which leads to the relaxation of the sling and the failure of the compensation for

We have described systematically the processes of developing prefactored optimized compact schemes for second spatial derivatives. First, instead of emphasizing high resolution of a single monochromatic wave, we focus on improving the representation of the compact finite difference schemes over a wide range of wavenumbers. This leads to the development of the optimized compact schemes whose coefficients will be determined by Fourier analysis and the least-squares optimization in the wavenumber domain. The resulted optimized compact schemes provide the maximum resolution in spatial directions f

Moreover, artificial interactions of the charged defect of oxygen vacancies with three different charges have been corrected by finite-size correction scheme (FNV). Balance sheet fraud or financial statements fraud is a broader issue; it is far-fetched than a few hundred dollars of a larceny case. The average length of ECG recording for a primary diagnosis takes no longer than 1[Formula: see text]min yielding to limit its concealment capacity. To overcome this drawback, we enhanced both concealment capacity and embedding quality by: (I) using 12-lead ECGs to span more embedding space, (II) shuffling input message bits via nonlinear feedback shift register (NLFSR) method, (III) inserting the selected bits of each channel into
