Viljoen, Petrus Johannes Jacobus. "Managing leader member exchange frequency effectively in a South African retail company." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/1106.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to highlight the importance of identifying the communication frequency within the leader-member exchange (LMX) relationship, and to appreciate what the positive or negative effect of a low or high LMX frequency has on this relationship and on staff morale. Management is for the most part responsible for communication frequency and is in a position and has the means to change such frequency or to add additional communication channels. The research was based on a program introduced in a South African retail company three years ago. Data was collected from 64 stores in the Western Cape and the results were statistically analysed on the SPSS16 program. The results clearly supported the hypotheses that, in a low-communication frequency area, an increase in communication frequency has a positive effect on staff morale and that the proximity to head office (or lack of it) does not have a negative effect on staff morale.

Bout, Danjel. "The Impact of Company Grade Officer Self-Sacrificial Behavior on Subordinate Assessments of Leader Charisma." Thesis, Walden University, 2013. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3587604.

Abstract:

Newly commissioned officers in the U.S. Army are taught to lead their soldiers from the front and to voluntarily make personal sacrifices in the service of the nation. Although this facet of military culture is seen as critical to the integrity of the force, there are few research studies describing the impact of leader self-sacrifice in the U.S. Army. Research evolving from the transformational leadership literature indicates that civilian leaders who engage in self-sacrificial behavior are viewed as more charismatic than their counterparts and that this perception is particularly pronounced in crisis situations. The current study extended this research to a military population utilizing a quantitative experimental research design. Respondents were randomly assigned to written vignettes that manipulated leader self-sacrifice and the combat environment and then provided assessments of the company grade officer's attributed charisma. Currently serving enlisted and commissioned officers in the California Army National Guard (n = 218) took part in the research, and ANOVA test results indicated that both self-sacrifice and the experience of combat significantly increase perceptions of a company grade officer's attributed charisma. No significant interaction was found between leader self-sacrifice and combat. This study indicated that the self-sacrificial leadership model may have broad applicability across organizations and provides strong support for the Army's emphasis on selfless service. This research can spur positive social change by fostering a more aspirational form of leadership within the Army that builds the psychological resilience of soldiers and results in stronger teams.

von, Wachenfeldt Therese. "How important is an employee structure with mixed genders in an accounting firm? : Comparing two different accounting firms in two different countries." Thesis, University of Gävle, Department of Business Administration and Economics, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hig:diva-4438.

Full text
Abstract:

Purpose:            The purpose of this study is to investigate the importance of having an employee structure with mixed genders in an accounting firm.

This study answers the following questions:

·        How important is an employee structure with mixed genders in an accounting firm?

·        What are the differences in the employee structure of a Gibraltarian and a Swedish accounting firm?

The roles of the genders in an organisation are becoming more and more important in today’s society. This is why I have studied this subject for my Master thesis and I think it can be interesting for the companies today to become more aware of the importance of mixed gender’s.

Method: To be able to complete my study I have collected data from questionnaires and interviews in the relevant companies and I have also looked for information in books and on the Internet. After gathering the information I analyzed it according to the theories, which are presented in the theory chapter. This study was presented to an opinion group from Högskolan i Gävle from abroad.

Result & Conclusion:        The importance of mixed genders is to be able to run the company as successfully as possible with the means necessary looking from both a feminine and a masculine perspective in a highly competitive market.

I believe that PwC has succeeded with having a good working environment because they have mixed genders in the company. All the theories prove that mixing genders is important and I believe it is the reason that Sweden has a law about it and also is the reason why PwC have a policy for quota of genders.

Suggestions/future studies: For future studies it would be interesting if more accounting companies from a greater selection of countries could be compared. This comparison would be interesting if it was between a country with similar culture or even with the extreme opposites. It would also be interesting to compare the different PwC branches within Sweden to see if the policy for quota of genders varies in different parts of Sweden. Another suggestion to further studies would be to see if there is a link between masculine cultured countries having less female managers than feminine cultured countries.

The studies contribution: My study and the suggested future studies can be used to improve the working environment and outcome for company’s which do not already have a quota policy for genders.

Abstract:
Implementing cultural change is a huge project for any company. Not only is it time consuming, there are also many factors that determine the success of a cultural change. This study aims to explore a number of these success factors from a social perspective of sustainability, in particular the employees’ perspective. The employee’s psychological perspective is more difficult to expose compared to the economic and environmental perspectives, because it has a qualitative nature and cannot be easily captured in quantitative models. However, this does not make the employees’ psychological perspective less important. Recent studies show that psychological safety supports the individual learning process and creates an openness and motivation for change. Results of this study show that a stronger sense of psychological safety can be created by a positive atmosphere among colleagues, a high level of trust, supportive leader behaviors, and systems that facilitate efficient information and knowledge sharing. Furthermore, the study contributes to the field of organizational theory by investigating the role, effect and perception of psychological safety within one multinational company.

Abstract:
The digitised world of today has led to the development of new organisational structures within companies, resulting in new leadership styles in digital firms. Furthermore, customers’ demand is constantly increasing, which results in the importance of delivering an experience to the customers to stay competitive in the market. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate how leadership is applied in a successful e-commerce company with a Customer Experience focus. This thesis is conducted throughout a qualitative single case study of a successful e-commerce company focusing on customer experience(s). The empirical findings have been obtained through semi-structured interviews, which further have been analysed together with the given theories to gain an in-depth understanding to answer the research question (1) How does leadership manifest itself in an e-commerce company? Furthermore, the sub-question (a) Which leadership styles can be identified within the e-commerce company. The conclusion of this thesis presents the importance of having leadership connected to the corporate culture. This includes considering the culture in all decisions within the company and that leaders and employees live by the company’s values. This thesis presents leaders within the case company applying several attributes of different leadership styles. However, the primary leadership style that has been identified throughout all leaders is transformational leadership, including being a digital leader.

Junghans, Pascal. "Le bain d'information, proposition d'un modèle d'appropriation d'information par les dirigeants de grandes entreprises." Thesis, Paris 2, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011PA020017/document.

Full text
Abstract:
The leaders live in a world where the information is massively broadcasted. Now, the information is useful for the leader. Rather than intended for an immediate custom, it is rather of use to him in diffuse changes of optics. But to use it, the leader has to, at first, appropriate this information. But, this question of the appropriation of the information by the leaders remains not resolved both by the manager practice and by the academic research. To try to answer this question, we joined in a hypothético-deductive approach. We leaned onthe works of Vaujany (2005a, 2005b, 2006) on the appropriation of the objects ofmanagement. By attaching us to determine how is suited the information in a social act, inside the company, and in an individual act, in a cognitive psychology perspective, we shall try to build a model of appropriation of the information which we shall name the bath ofinformation. We postulate that the leaders acquire a mass of considerable information and create a bath of information. Inside this bath, shocks and resonnances allow an effective appropriation, and improve the system of faith. The system of appropriation improves and refines the process ofintuition allowing to improve the system of appropriation and to create an anticipative information. We validated and developed this model by means of an exploratory research led with 13human resources managers, members of executive committees of big international groupsthen a central research led with 21 Presidents, Chief Executive Officers and members ofexecutive committees of French, European and American groups

Womack, Carl E. Jr. "Army Company-Grade Leaders' Perspectives of Resilience Training| A Case Study." Thesis, Grand Canyon University, 2019. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=13814145.

Full text
Abstract:

The purpose of this qualitative descriptive multiple case study was to understand what were a group of former company-grade leaders? perspectives of Army resilience training and how these perspectives impacted training transfer of resilience training in their former units. The theoretical framework underpinning this research was Holton?s human resource development evaluation research and measurement model. Two research questions were posed in this study: 1. What were a group of former Army company-grade leaders? perspectives of resilience training? 2. How did former Army company-grade leaders? perspectives of resilience training relate to their prioritization, implementation, and fostering of a supportive climate for resilience training within their former units? A homogeneous purposive sampling strategy was used to recruit 10 former company-grade leaders near an Army installation in the southwestern United States. Data was collected from three sources using within-method triangulation: focus groups, open-ended in-depth individual interviews, and historical documents. Data analysis included thematic analysis and both deductive and inductive coding. Four themes emerged from the data relating to the training transfer of Army resilience training: perception of training, transfer climate, external events, and organizational training management indiscipline. Ineffective resilience training instructors were the catalyst driving negative affective reactions from former company-grade leaders. This, in turn, contributed to their negative utility perception of Army resilience training. This negative perspective of resilience training transcended individual leaders and permeated their unit?s climate, creating a barrier to the transfer of resilience training to soldiers within these leaders? former units. Keywords: resilience, training transfer, perception of training, transfer climate

Company X is a defense contractor that has built its competitive advantage on superior product performance. Over the last 10 years, government contracts have been changing to include stricter manufacturing and cost requirements. With these changes, design engineers can no longer design the most technologically advanced product and then hand it off to manufacturing engineers to figure out how to build it. Design and manufacturing engineers must work together to design the product to meet the contract performance, cost, and manufacturing requirements. It is difficult to balance the need to create a new technology that performs and the need to develop a product that can be easily produced. There is an added contextual factor. Because Company X is a defense contractor, it must follow special requirements and guidelines to satisfy their customer. These requirements typically add time and cost to a program. Many of Company X's programs are funded by the government, which means Company X's process is dependent on what process steps the government will fund. These steps can change from program to program. Because of the variability between programs, Company X's product development process is tailorable to meet the needs of each individual program. The goal of this research is to determine the best methods to better integrate manufacturing and cost requirements into the product development process to ensure that high technology businesses like Company X can keep their technology-based competitive edge in the market while also meeting more demanding cost and manufacturing requirements. The research is divided into five parts. First, existing literature on high performing teams, product development, and design for manufacturing is studied to determine best practices. Next, two internal case studies are performed to characterize the current state at Company X. Then Toyota's product development process is studied to learn best practices from another company known for developing high performing products that are also producible. After that, a gap analysis is completed to determine where the organizational gaps and process gaps at Company X exist compared to the best practices found in the literature review, within Company X, and in the Toyota case study. In order to ensure that recommendations are viable at Company X, a cause and effect analysis of best practices is also performed. The research ends with recommendations and conclusions for Company X to improve their product development process. The case studies show organizational and contractual difficulties with balancing cost, performance, and producibility. Company X puts a strong emphasis on product performance with their goals and incentives, and there is a strong design engineering culture. The organizational structure at Company X and the funding provided by the government on contracts do not always allow design and manufacturing engineering to work together early in the development process. The two programs studied made an effort to bring manufacturing and cost requirements into the product development process early. They started with a focus on balancing cost, producibility, and performance, but as issues arose, the focus shifted to performance. The development cycle is so long at Company X that the people who start a program are not responsible to finish it. There are also separate development and production teams with no real feedback loop to share issues and lessons learned. In order to improve these organizational and contractual issues, five recommendations are made to Company X. These include: implementing true integrated product teams (IPTs), simulating Toyota's chief engineer position using goals and incentives, incorporating playbooks/checklists into the development process, applying AS6500 requirements to all programs, and developing a closed loop system for producibility efforts. Implementing these recommendations is expected to provide better quality products that are easier and more affordable to produce. These recommendations are also expected to provide faster development cycles, higher morale, fewer cost overruns, fewer schedule overruns, and better integrated products.

Companies take different approaches, and achieve different degrees of implementation, in designing products for cost. This thesis discusses Target Costing and its application at The Boeing Company. Target Costing is a design for cost framework that is widely used by auto manufacturers, but is still less widely used in the aerospace industry. This thesis observes the current state at The Boeing Company and provides recommendations for full implementation of Target Costing. Through research into best practices at companies that have implemented Target Costing, this thesis identifies five key enablers: culture, organizations involved, process, tools, and market. Additionally, this thesis discusses a potential barrier to implementation: organizational politics. Based on a project to implement a price visibility tool and on three value engineering case studies, this thesis identifies The Boeing Company's state relative to full scale Target Costing and provides recommendations for The Boeing Company to achieve full implementation of Target Costing through the use of the five key enablers.

Narcissists are individuals with excessive self-admiration that always like to be recognized by others and are constantly seeking attention and distinction. CEOs that possess this personality trait have grandiose tendencies and are likely to take riskier actions, while receiving a higher compensation for their work. Due to the great influence of CEOs, it is important, both for academic and hiring purposes, to study how their traits affect the companies they work for. However, authors have yet to reach an agreement regarding the effect of CEO narcissism on company and, mostly, on company performance. Using a sample of CEOs of Portuguese registered companies, data was collected based on a questionnaire held online. To assess the relationship between narcissism and performance, performance was measured using a subjective and self-perception measure. The results show that narcissism is positively related to performance, confirming that narcissists give their work a high evaluation. These findings may suggest an advantage of hiring narcissistic CEOs but the use of objective measures of performance might be needed in order to reach more accurate results.

Cisco and its four contract manufacturing partners are collaborating to implement a lean replenishment methodology across their supply chain. The new system is expected to result in minimized inventory exposure, increased supply chain flexibility, and improved speed to customer. Implementation of such a large standardized initiative requires close collaboration within and between multiple companies which makes it even more complex. Understanding the current state of collaboration within such a large initiative will enable improvements for future inter-company initiatives. This work analyses how Cisco and Flextronics collaborate within this large joint initiative. The analysis utilizes a combination of process mapping and known frameworks for organizational and cross company collaboration analysis. In addition, a dynamic supply chain simulation addressing a particular concern within the initiative is provided. Based on this characterization recommendations for how Cisco and Flextronics can improve collaboration for future joint initiatives are made.

As multinational industrial goods companies (MNCs) selling low-volume high-complexity products move into markets across the globe, they develop an operations strategy to provide a product tailored to local markets, often also engineered and manufactured in that local market. As MNCs seek to provide more customization to their customers, they face issues with the resulting complexity of operations, leading them to pursue mass customization, i.e. providing variety at low cost through configurable products. An important step in this product strategy is the introduction of product configurators, i.e. software tools that permit the automatic or semiautomatic configuration and pricing of product variants. Through streamlining the specification and bidding process, product configurators lower process time and therefore also lower costs in both sales and engineering functions. However, difficulties arise in developing a product configurator for a global company operating in many different localized markets. This study develops a framework for multinational companies to first evaluate the needs of their overseas divisions for a product configurator and second identify the gaps between the global and local product configuration and pricing. The objective of the framework is to provide a unified, centrally managed product configurator that provides the ability to tailor product options to specific local needs. A case study of a power electronics multinational with 9 overseas locations is performed. Interviews of key stakeholders in the head office and in the overseas division provide preliminary indication of differing product configurator design requirements from country to country. A deep dive is performed using the framework into two of its oversea divisions, Canada and Brazil. The study reveals key differences in the product feature requirements, in costing products due to local labor costs, part costs and import taxes, in the pricing process due to margin structures and sales incentives and in usage patterns due to language, local technical terminology and collaboration modes between sales and engineering. Using survey techniques, prioritization of the configurator functionality requirements is determined. Combined with an organizational analysis of the company, an integrated implementation plan is developed to permit identification of solutions in conjunction with roll-out to the international organization.

This paper outlines areas for improvement within the outbound fulfillment network of an emerging online grocery ("e-grocery") company offering home delivery to the customer. In particular, the research focuses on developing an efficient, scalable home delivery network, as a result of the known challenges and relatively high fulfillment costs associated with this business model. Last-mile home delivery accounts for a substantial portion of total e-grocery fulfillment costs. The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), a well-known NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem, is examined in the context of e-grocery and its impact on last-mile delivery costs. The paper emphasizes an integration of scalable vehicle routing systems with efficient order fulfillment operations. Practical analytical approaches, as well as new case experiments, serve as a framework of recommendations for an emerging e-grocer or similar last-mile delivery provider. The paper presents analysis using a real case study, serving as a basis for example, as well as more broad recommendations in the field. Moreover, it directs the reader to a wealth of literature in the fields of logistics, grocery fulfillment operations and the VRP class.

As a consumer-packaged-goods company dealing with multiple suppliers, "Company X" (the company's real name has been disguised) has a clear need for an accurate raw material forecast. The current planning process has not managed to supply a forecast that will answer Company X's raw material procurement needs, and so a need for a new process has arisen. Process change initiatives are a task that every company frequently encounters, and creating the right setting for a successful change initiative is critical to determining whether the company will be able to drive the cost savings and remain competitive. This thesis outlines the process of redesigning the raw material planning process within the company's regional operations in several developing countries. The new process was designed in an attempt to balance creating a more accurate and more robust forecast with designing an implementable, wellaccepted new process that will establish the settings for a successful change initiative. In the process evaluation section, we examine the new procedure's potential accuracy improvement, as well as two unique management tools to evaluate the process' implementation potential and the trade-offs made in designing the process. We evaluate the impact of the finished goods forecast and production error on the overall material plan accuracy. One common course of action companies typically take in order to decrease material plan variability is to reduce the number of finished goods SKU by aggregating similar SKUs. SKU reduction increases the forecast mean of the individual SKUs and thereby decreases the percent error of the forecast. One interesting conclusion this thesis outlines is that when the production error is not negligible, SKU reduction will only help if the decreased finished goods forecast percent error is above a certain ratio (the square root of the forecast mean). This conclusion suggest that local optimizations of the sub-processes that generate the full material plan will not necessarily optimize the resulting material plan, and that material plan optimization should be done using a comprehensive approach, not as a set of sub-processes optimizations. While these results, and the methodology for the design and assessment of new process was revealed during my work within company X, the material plan accuracy results are relevant for any material plan process improvement, and the change management methodology discussed is relevant for any company with a need for a smooth and successful implementation of a new process.

Abstract:
Personality and brand factors were examined to determine if consumers of certain personality dimensions would be more favorable toward specific brand factors of three major sports media companies: Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and Fox Sports News. College-age sports news followers were tested to ascertain personality, brand evaluation, and media usage. Findings disclosed associations of personality dimension and brand preference, for example, “Agreeable” participants favored ESPN branding. Participants scoring low on “Extroversion” favored the Sports Illustrated brand. Other findings included an association between “Agreeableness” and TV; and frequent digital media users favored ESPN. Findings have implications for integrating personality research in marketing strategies that target college-age consumers.

Strategy formation and implementation is critical to the growth and success of companies. Typically, modification of corporate level strategy necessitates division level changes as well. These changes are eventually implemented at the department level and depending on the magnitude of the change, it can have a significant effect on the way employees perform their day-to-day activities. The objective of this thesis is to illustrate how Boeing's adoption of lean manufacturing and Propulsion Systems' - division responsible for engine build-up - vision of "One Line, One Way, One Day" alters the engine build-up process. Previous improvement studies on engine buildup take into account the flexibility and mobility of tooling equipment. This thesis builds on that idea and provides a business case for four (4) alternate approaches that align with the aforementioned corporate initiatives. The final recommendation is based on an in-depth analysis of the costs, risks, tangible and intangible benefits, of the alternate approaches. It will enable managers to make informed decisions on the future of engine build-up with the ultimate goal of developing a mixed model engine line without monuments.

Selecting and deploying an IT tool can be very complicated and expensive. This paper studies a particular approach to choosing project, program and portfolio management software at one large and geographically diverse company in the Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) industry, Voltaform. Though there are many ways to approach this task, significant thought should go into which one is chosen for each particular company and its situation. This document addresses the approach taken at VoltaForm as well as the reasoning behind it. It describes developing a business case focused on end user needs for the new software, including the detailed data analysis techniques used to evaluate the end user needs. It also describes certain aspects of the deployment of the software once chosen. The purpose of this paper is to provide guidance and examples for anyone faced with a similar task.

This thesis explores the problem of global supply chain flexibility in the context of a multinational commonly that we refer to as Company X. Company X faces competitive markets, increasingly demanding customers, and internal challenges due to the global extension of previously local business processes. Company X aims not only to produce goods to meet customers' requirements but also to improve the performance of its fundamental business processes. Considering this reality, this thesis explores two main initiatives to accomplish sustainable continuous improvement: 1) maximize flexibility in the Global Value Chain while minimizing waste and variance, and 2) develop a methodology to ensure the successful implementation of improvements. For the optimization of the Global Value Chain, the objective was to enable the company to grow its business as global opportunities present themselves. For this purpose, this thesis proposes a new planning process that both enables assessing the risk on supply and deliveries due to the variability of lead times and includes real options analysis in the planning processes for Region A. As a result, this Dynamic Strategic Global Sourcing Plan will make possible the creation of a plan that captures benefits from increases in project value and insures against losses from decreased project value. In addition to the strategic and tactical work for the optimization of the Value Chain, it is a reality that large-scale transformation requires a deep understanding of the human side. The company's culture, values, people, mindset and capabilities must be changed to ensure a successful implementation of the improvements. On this line, a unique iterative perspective on managing the human side of change that can be adapted to a variety of realities was developed during the course of the research. This technique is iterative and adaptable because transformation is not a one-time event but an ongoing process and the company is a multinational corporation facing different situations on its locations. Overall, the aim and tasks of the thesis deal with sustaining continuous improvement in a dynamic Global Value Chain environment. The Dynamic Strategic Global Sourcing Plan will enable Company X to respond effectively to changes and the Change Management Process will ensure the implementation of the processes needed to make that effective response possible.

The primary goal for the thesis is to develop a recommendation for Amgen's future prefilled syringe strategy related to its drug process development, supplier relationship management plan, supply and sourcing, and procurement. The goal is achieved 1) by analyzing the historic growth drivers in the market and current market trends including changes and challenges, 2) by developing an analytical tool to understand complicated market dynamics between suppliers and buyers, 3) by developing a few future scenarios on how the market will evolve based on former analyses and models and 4) by developing and finalizing a recommendation for Amgen's future strategy. The prefilled syringe market is uniquely interesting for several reasons: 1) the prefilled syringe is an important primary drug container to both biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, 2) there has been only one dominant supplier in the US, 3) biotech has been challenged with quality issues related to prefilled syringes and required the highest quality standards of syringe suppliers, 4) biotech's stringent quality standards and relatively low volume, compared with other big therapeutic classes such as anti-coagulants (heparins) and vaccines, can make it less attractive for the suppliers to align to biotech's needs, 5) new launch of advanced auto-injection device requires even higher prefilled syringe quality standards, and 6) the market is reshaping rapidly these days. First, the thesis analyzes the prefilled syringe market's history, major growth drivers, key suppliers and buyers, and market dynamics featuring key players. Secondly, it turns to discuss the challenges and issues Amgen has faced with these days and the backgrounds. Thirdly, it develops recommendations regarding Amgen's decisions on single versus multi sourcing, supplier selection, and supplier relationship structures. Lastly, it should be noted that all views, opinions, and assertions made in this thesis are those of the author alone, not of Amgen.

Abstract:
Globalization that diminishes the barriers to trade worldwide has transformed the structure of production and increased the global competition in the textile and apparel industry. Especially, the elimination of quotas on January 2005 has totally changed the whole scenario of the apparel industry. A boom has been noticed in the emerging markets. Buyers shift their maximum orders to the low cost countries to increase their profit margins. China has gained its popularity among the European and American buyers because of the cheap labor and large scales of production and has become the world’s largest exporter of textile and apparel. The traditional competitive factor among the buyers is the lower cost of the product but the changing markets trends and demand volatility pushes the buyers to focus also on quality and lead times in addition to price. Due to the huge competition among the cluster of brands, retailers and wholesalers, lead time is becoming critical as longer lead times increases the risk of bottleneck to sales. China is the most important apparel supplier for the EU (especially Germany, the UK, and France) because it provides the cost benefit to the sourcing companies, but at the same time, it increases the lead times and also has more environmental impact in terms of pollution because of the long geographical distance. This thesis highlights that there is a remarkable rise of the labor cost in China, noticed for the last couple of years, which has reduced the competitive factor of price while sourcing from China. This is also an upcoming challenge for the whole world with regards to sourcing strategies. Many sourcing companies are shifting their shares away from China in order to achieve their desired profit margins. Turkey may be an alternative sourcing destination for the European apparel buyers and wholesalers because of its competitive labor cost, favorable government policies, flexibility, sustainability, and proximity to Europe. In this thesis, a pilot study is carried out to determine the relationship and effects of lead times on sales. This thesis also describes the effects of relationships among the business partners on the supply chain flow. It is noted through several pilot studies that the organizations who work in collaboration with their supply chain partners can significantly improve their supply chain efficiency by reducing the inventories, markdowns, lead times, lost sales, and increasing forecast accuracy. There are several tools in use for collaboration such as Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Just in Time (JIT), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Collaboration, Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishment (CPFR). In this paper the CPFR implementation steps, benefits, and hindrances are discussed in detail.

Abstract:
The thesis addresses possibilities of deploying the open source data mining system LISp-Miner in the customer relationship management (CRM), specifically in the area of lead management. This is basically a process of finding information about potential customers, qualifying those customers according to their potential (future value), and turning the selected potential customers to real customers. The data used includes the records concerning the lead management of a major logistic company operating worldwide (the company wanted to stay in anonymity). The data is analysed using the LISp-Miner system which is an academic software developed at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics at the University of Economics, Prague. The thesis also pays attention to the collaboration with the business experts of the company which provided the data. The principle aim of the thesis is to provide information contributing to the possible change of internal processes of the company. Further aims are to propose directions of the use of the LISp-Miner system when solving a similar data mining task, and propose a simple and understandable way how to present the results. The aims have been achieved by doing the analysis in compliance with the CRISP-DM Methodology. The asset of the thesis is the description of the whole project which includes the analysis of real data using the LISp-Miner system. Further result of the thesis is the description of the lead management domain. Finally, the thesis offers the instructions and recommendations for future similar projects. Section I outlines the LISp-Miner system and its procedures. Section II - A case study describes the process of analysing the data. Two cycles ("iterations") of the analysis were performed. The chapters devoted to the both iterations have been structured according to the phases of the CRISP-DM Methodology. Section III summarises the observations gained during the entire project. Moreover, it gives recommendations and instructions for the application in case a similar project of the data analysis using the LISp-Miner system is designed.

Eastman Kodak Company managed its supply chain operations at a regional level until 2002 when it created the Global Logistics group. Prior to this, there had not been much corporate focus on the inbound supply chain; in addition, Kodak lacked a standard process for the definition, selection, and implementation of inbound logistics solutions. As a result, inventory optimization occurred at a local level without insight into what was best for the corporation as a whole. This led to situations where material inventories were not managed effectively, implementations of inbound logistics methods varied widely across the corporation, and suboptimal inbound logistics solutions were created or selected. Ultimately these practices led to inefficient supply chain management and excessive inventory and operating costs for Kodak. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a set of standardized inbound logistics solutions for the company, create a decision tool that can be used to aid in the selection of the most appropriate solution, and implement this standard process across the corporation. This thesis is the result of work done during a 6.5 month LFM internship at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York.

The purpose of this study was to determine if training in self-management principles would enhance the transfer of training in leadership skills to the work setting. Managers, supervisors, and group leaders of a small manufacturing company served as the participants for the study. Two training groups were formed, one which received training in leadership skills only and another which received training in leadership skills and self-management. Prior to and after training all participants completed a learning measure and were rated by subordinates, peers, and/or supervisors on the demonstration of leadership skills on the job. Results showed that training significantly increased participants' learning measure scores for those skills taught in the training modules. Leadership-training-only participants received significantly better behavioral ratings than self-management participants, although this difference was deemed to be practically nonsignificant. The results suggest that participants gained a better understanding of leadership skills through the leadership training modules. However, participants did not significantly increase their application of those skills on the job, and self-management did not serve to enhance the transfer of training.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on contribution of users in innovation activities. Through the case analysis of a mid-small sized tech company specialized in technology testing, we study one of the main innovative projects, undertaken for a client. Employing interviews and questionnaires throughout our research, we identify characteristics of client-users who contribute substantially in the ideation development and testing of the new innovation. The company deviating from their routinized testing activities, integrate the knowledge generated by those users in a particular way. We observe, analyze and make a critique upon those knowledge integration strategies, implemented by the company at this stage. The study highlights how the firm responds to the stimulus of those users involvement, aiming to give an interpretation of the phenomenon.

Abstract:
This thesis is focused on the credit risk management with special orientation in the lease companies. Firstly, the basic risk features are defined, the general risk management process is explained and risks which the lease companies are exposed to are classified. The main theoretical part analyses the features of the credit risk important for the credit analysis, i.e. the classic approach to the evaluation of the borrower's creditworthiness. The theoretical part is the basis for the practical part within which the analysis of the credit risk management process in the lease company is performed, including the case study analysis.

Against the background of major corporate scandals internationally and in South Africa, questions are being asked about the level of morality of leaders in organisations. This study assessed the level of moral reasoning of senior managers in a South African company in the insurance industry. The study was based on Kohlberg’s Cognitive Moral Development (CMD) Theory and an assessment of key literature pieces relating to ethical leadership and business ethics. Research has demonstrated that ethical leaders have a significant influence on an organisation’s performance, reputation, sustainability, ethical climate and employee engagement. Globally and in the South African corporate context it is therefore important for organisations to understand the capacity of its leaders to behave ethically so that appropriate interventions can be engaged in. More specifically, this study aimed to assess the level of moral reasoning of managers in a large South African organisation and examined the relationship between the variables age, gender, race, tenure and education on the one hand and the level of moral reasoning on the other hand. This study also assessed the reliability of the Managerial Moral Judgment Test (MMJT). This study was a cross-sectional, quantitative study utilising a previously developed questionnaire, the Managerial Moral Judgment Test. This study contributed to the very sparse body of knowledge of managerial moral reasoning in the South African business context, while the research results can be used to identify managerial training and development needs in ethics in the organisation studied. This study found that the moral reasoning levels of managers at the research site, is at the conventional level, while the variables age, gender, race, tenure and education have no significant influence on the level of moral reasoning. In addition, this study established the internal reliability of the Managerial Moral Judgment Test and located ethical leadership and business ethics in the literature.

Abstract:
With South Africa currently experiencing a skills shortage, companies need to take job insecurity, job satisfaction and social support into consideration as part of their retention strategy. There is also tremendous pressure being placed on organisations to improve their performance and to become increasingly competitive, which has resulted in job insecurity becoming a reality in South Africa. A petro-chemical company in South Africa was studied to determine the possible relationships between job insecurity, job satisfaction, social support, tenure, intention to leave and qualifications. The participants (N=l 84) included process controllers, senior process controllers, group leaders/foremen, section leaders and area leaders of various business units of the petro-chemical company. A quantitative study was conducted using a cross-sectional survey design. Self-administered questionnaires were used which included the Job Insecurity Questionnaire (JIQ), The Turnover Scale, Social Support and the Job Satisfaction Scale. The statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients as well as MANOY A and structural equation modelling. The statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients as well as MANOVA and structural equation modelling. Results indicated there was no correlation between job insecurity and tenure, nor between qualifications and job insecurity. It was concluded that lower job satisfaction resulted in higher job insecurity and that higher job satisfaction resulted in lower levels of intentions to leave. There was a positive correlation between social support and job satisfaction. With these results and the model developed it would be possible for the company to adjust their retention strategy to achieve optimal results.
