Abstract:
School performance is the main agenda in school organizations in achieving the vision and mission as well as the main objectives of the Ministry of Education. Issues on performance in the context of school organizations are based on leadership management. The main issues highlighted are based on leadership in achieving the ultimate goal of the Ministry of Education (MOE). This study examines the leadership among the headmasters and principals in schools in improving the performance of schools in Malaysia. From the concept of leadership, the leadership that forms the leadership of entrepreneurship among teachers in every school leader plays an important role in the education system to deal with changes and challenges. Entrepreneurial leadership is a leader who is classified to achieve the same goal of using entrepreneurial behavior. Hence, this study focuses entirely on entrepreneurial leadership relationships with school performance in Malaysia. This study also tests the sustainability leadership as a second variable. Supported by the Model Leader-Member Exchange theory, this study proposes a framework by outlining the factors that exist in entrepreneurial leadership and sustainable leadership A total of 171 school organization from public schools have participated in this study. Data for this study variables were collected through a self-administered survey. Partial Least Square - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is the main statistical technique used in this study. The findings show that some variables such as entrepreneurial leadership and sustainability leadership are significant in relation to school performance. The findings will contribute to future research that researchers can research deeply on leadership 4.0 towards the performance of public or private schools in Malaysia.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine effects of entrepreneurial leadership (EL) and organizational innovation (OI) on business performance (BP) of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as to determine whether environmental dynamism (ED) moderates the mediating effect of OI in the EL‒BP relationship. Design/methodology/approach The study was carried out on the basis of questionnaire survey among 243 SME owners of Pokhara valley of Nepal. Hierarchical multiple regression and other different PROCESS models were considered to examine direct, mediation, moderation and moderated mediation relationships. Findings The findings suggest a significant positive effect of EL on OI and BP and significant mediating role of OI in EL‒BP relationship. But contrary to the prediction, the results indicate that the moderation and moderated mediation relationship are weaker under a dynamic environment than a stable environment. Research limitations/implications As research reveals, ED moderates the studied model differently, and it raises questions on applicability of western theories, scales and their relationship in the South Asian context. Besides this, it has few limitations, which also present opportunities for future research. Practical implications The findings of this research will be significant to entrepreneurs, educators and policymakers for better understanding about study variables, to use as consulting options as well as to prepare effective policies for entrepreneurship development. Originality/value This study is perhaps the first study that examines the complex moderated mediation model in the context of minimal work on EL‒BP relationship and facilitates more sophisticated understanding about their relationships as well as shows variables’ and model’s generalizability in the eastern context.

Al-Khalifah, Bashayer. "Entrepreneurial leadership in Kuwaiti private firms." Thesis, University of Stirling, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/21923.

Abstract:
This study examines the traits and characteristics of entrepreneurial leaders within the Kuwaiti context, by drawing from the different but related leadership and entrepreneurship theories. We first identified several areas where these fields theoretically converge with an emphasis on traits, styles and behavioural characteristics, which led to the emergence of a new leadership paradigm herein referred to as ‘entrepreneurial leadership’. Entrepreneurial leadership is conceptualised as a process of social influence, transformation, and empowering in rapidly changing and uncertain contexts. We operationalised the construct of entrepreneurial leadership by identifying the key traits and characteristics of Kuwait’s private sector leaders. These traits and characteristics included the leaders’ values and beliefs, vision, proactivity, creativity and innovation, opportunity-seeking and risk-taking. The study adopted a predominantly positivist ontology and objective epistemology in order to better understand the phenomenon under investigation (i.e. entrepreneurial leadership). This necessitated obtaining data largely from surveys of 345 leaders, mainly from the financial banking and investment sectors of Kuwait, complemented by qualitative data from 12 interviews. The study provides important insights into the concepts related to entrepreneurial leadership in a non-Western environment and enriches our knowledge in this sector of the management field. The research contributes to knowledge on leadership in Kuwait by conceptualizing a model of entrepreneurial leadership, which places emphasis on leaders’ traits and characteristics and how that relates with leadership effectiveness. The implications of the research relate closely to the way in which companies must be managed or led in a global and competitive environment.

Abstract:
Leadership and entrepreneurship have often been associated to the ability of guiding ventures, but less to the ability of leading a startup community. This master’s thesis examines literature on entrepreneurship, in particular Entrepreneurial Ecosystem (EE), to understand the role of leadership in sustaining a startup community. Although Stam’s (2015) EE framework recognizes that leadership enables entrepreneurship, it doesn’t define its characteristics and therefore, a more theoretical understanding is demanded. We have thus developed a conceptual framework that aims to facilitate empirical explorations and future analyses of the leadership dimension of Stam’s (2015) EE framework. Our conceptual framework of Entrepreneurial Leadership (EL) includes the following characteristics: collective and bottom-up approach, presence of formal and informal leaders, promotion of social proximity and mentorship driven leadership. The use of interviews as research method and our EL conceptual framework as analytical tool was useful to explore and understand the current state of EL in the startup communities of Amsterdam and Utrecht. On the one hand, the startup community of Amsterdam experiences a shared leadership where formal and informal leaders are recognized. Moreover, the strong presence of supporting organizations, networks of mentors and entrepreneurial events favour interaction among the stakeholders of the EE. On the other hand, Utrecht, a smaller and younger startup community, lacks success entrepreneurial stories that results in supporting organizations exercising the leadership role. Furthermore, there is a poor presence of entrepreneurial events and networks of entrepreneurs that lead to an unconnected community.

Abstract:

Small businesses are the backbones of the American economy and contribute nearly 46% of the U.S. gross domestic product. However, the failure rate for small businesses is high. Only half of all small businesses will be able to survive for 5 years, and only 20% of small business can survive 10 years. Failure is a common phenomenon among entrepreneurs of small businesses. This qualitative phenomenological study involved examining entrepreneurs’ perceptions of their failure experiences. The study involved exploring the impacts of failure on entrepreneurs, the valuable lessons that entrepreneurs have taken from their failure experiences, and how they have applied what they have learned into business practices. Ten participants were purposefully selected for an individual face-to-face interview. The researcher created and asked 12 open-ended interview questions during the interviews under the framework of 3 research questions. Through analysis of the data gathered from the interviewees, the findings revealed that failure has a tremendous impact on entrepreneurs’ finances, relationships, and emotions. The findings also included valuable lessons that entrepreneurs have learned from their failure experiences, including acquiring knowledge on business management, awareness of self-limitations, enhancing faith, and leading changes by setting examples and showing care to employees. The research also revealed entrepreneurs apply what they have learned from failure directly back into daily business practices. In the process, they had to accept their personal weaknesses by adapting to changes. Learning from failure is a continuous process. The lessons shared are critical to entrepreneurial growth, especially in leadership. What these entrepreneurs have learned and practiced is worth exploring in hopes of shedding light on entrepreneurial education.

Abstract:
High-tech (HT) innovation-oriented entrepreneurs start 35% more ventures and create 10% more jobs in the first 5 years of operation than the rest of the private sector and drive significant economic growth across all industries; however, more than 50% of the entrepreneurial HT ventures fail during the first 5 years of operations. Guided by the conceptual framework of transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this multicase study was to explore skills used by successful entrepreneurial leaders to sustain their HT ventures in Silicon Valley, California. Data collection was from 8 participants in semistructured 1-on-1 interviews and 3 participants in a focus group discussion. All participants were entrepreneurial leaders with experience in sustaining their entrepreneurial ventures beyond 5 years. A thematic data analysis approach involved text search, content coding to nodes, and code comparison techniques of collected data to extract themes and identify relationships in the findings. The emergent 4 leadership skill themes for HT entrepreneurial venture sustainability were the recruitment of the right team, situational adaptability, market orientation, and providing innovation stimulation. The right team can resourcefully assist the leader to execute market-leading competitive products and overcome challenges in the dynamic and intensely competitive and innovative HT industry. A culture of openness, ownership, and trust is conducive to the sustainability of an HT venture. Findings from this study may contribute to social change by promoting the formation of new HT ventures, increasing job creation, reducing work stressors, improving quality of life with innovative and cost-effective products, and services in healthcare, infrastructure, personal safety, education, and communications.

"How does social media affect entrepreneurial leadership : A qualitative study on entrepreneur’s perceptions regarding social media as a tool for entrepreneurial leadership." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Företagsekonomiska institutionen, 2018. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-356597.

Abstract:
This thesis is about entrepreneurial leadership and how entrepreneurs are affected by social media. Our aim with this study is to investigate how social media affects entrepreneurial leadership. One of the main questions we are trying to figure out is, can social media be used as a tool for entrepreneurial leadership and if that is the case, how? To be able to answer the aim, the thesis takes a qualitative researched approach, we conducted individual face-to-face semi-structured interviews with entrepreneurs. The data from the interviews will be analysed using grounded theory coding with the approach of finding 1st order concepts to look for patterns in the data.  The 1st order concepts led us to the 2nd ordered themes, which became three aggregated dimensions; cast expander, leadership enhancer and new social context.   The result gave us a deeper understanding of entrepreneurial leadership and how the entrepreneurial leader perceives social media as a leadership tool. By combining our three aggregate dimensions, cast expander, leadership enhancer and new social context we were able to build a model of how these three dimensions intersect. What makes this model useful is that it gives us some insight into how social media affects entrepreneurial leadership

MacLaren, Andrew C. "The stories of hoteliers : personal narratives in entrepreneurial leadership." Thesis, University of Strathclyde, 2015. http://oleg.lib.strath.ac.uk:80/R/?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=25798.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis considers the question, what do hoteliers do? Specifically, how do hoteliers interpret their personal narratives in a manner that informs the process of enacting their roles? It also asks, how do personal narratives mediate understanding of entrepreneurial leadership? The thesis synthesises leadership and entrepreneurship; it reconciles some of the disparate contributions made within these fields to inform our understanding of the role of the hotelier by way of a hermeneutical exploration of the personal narratives constructed by hoteliers. It also considers how these are used in the enactment of entrepreneurial leadership. The thesis contributes to the fields of entrepreneurship, leadership and hospitality studies by highlighting the importance of constructing and harnessing personal career narratives and using these to navigate the uncertain and emergent hotel industry. It begins by discussing entrepreneurship theory, specifically the importance of process, context and its role in the hotel industry. It then considers leadership theory to identify a field of enquiry that is populated by multiple definitions, informed by many methodological and ontological perspectives. Process and context are also discussed in relation to leadership and, from this, the literature relating to the hotel industry as a field of enquiry is discussed. Through a hermeneutical three stage reflective process, the construction of the hotel industry according to hoteliers as well as the components of their role is explored. Following this, a definitive articulation of what it is to be an entrepreneurial leader in the hotel industry is presented: someone who reconciles the ever-changing and dynamic industry context with a need to be strategic. This is seen as the positive harnessing of personal narratives to create a generative grammar for effectual processes. The thesis thus develops effectuation theory by exploring and explaining the means by which effectuation is actually enacted. Hoteliers select and recount episodes from personal narratives to inform the ways in which they enact their roles. The identification and analysis of this practice of relating positive professional outcomes to personal stories augments and contributes to knowledge of entrepreneurial leadership and the entrepreneurial process.

Mhembere, Mike. "The relationship between financial literacy, entrepreneurial leadership and entrepreneurial performance of small, medium and micro-enterprises." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/79616.

Full text
Abstract:
The major aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between financial literacy, entrepreneurial leadership and entrepreneurial performance of small, medium and micro-enterprises. A simple random sampling approach was employed in conducting survey primary data collection using a self-administered structured questionnaire developed based on a 5-point Likert scale. Sample data collected from two-hundred and five respondents was first tested for construct validity and scale reliability using Keiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy and Cronbach’s alpha criteria, respectively. Results indicate that the questionnaire’s items passed construct validity and scale reliability requirements. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted to evaluate total variances explained, factor structures and associations between observed variables and latent factors using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences 24 software. Results show that no observed variables exhibited complex structures, and significant amounts of variances in observed variables were explained by the analogous constructs. Results obtained from the structural equation model estimated using Stata 14 software show presence of significant positive relationship between financial literacy, entrepreneurial leadership and entrepreneurial performance. Results from the estimated generalised structural equation model indicate that entrepreneurial leadership moderates the relationship between financial literacy and entrepreneurial performance of small, medium and micro-enterprises.

Abstract:
Weathering the entrepreneurial storm is considered by many an art form in itself but an undeniable, universal truth is the unilateral impact of an extraordinary leader on the chances of triumph in the face of great adversity. Yet the focus of academic studies all too often concerns the understanding of the weather patterns, the choice of captain and the direction of the ship rather than how to turn the wheel, raise the mast or set the sails. This study has the aim of deciphering the routines, actions and methods of entrepreneurial leaders so as to produce tangible, actionable knowledge which real practitioners can bestow upon themselves. This is a collective case study which examines ten entrepreneurial leaders from various cities throughout Sweden using semi-structured, in-depth interviews. The findings pertain to routines, activities and methods that they use to fulfil five roles of effective entrepreneurial leadership which are further boiled down to 52 thematic strategies. These strategies are then aligned into five fundamental skills; encompassing a collective approach, building individual relationships, fragmentation, dynamic perspective and utilising feedback. We believe that through developing these skills that entrepreneurial leaders can better cultivate their own routines, activities and methods contingent to their particular circumstance and transaction set.
