Full textThe goal of this thesis is to understand how the mechanisms of influence work in leadership relationships, and what their effects are within the different organizational actors. The basic proposition is that leadership can be considered a mutual influence process, which has an impact on the identity of the individuals involved. Following the premises of critical management studies, a theoretical framework is developed that conceives of leadership as a power relationship and as a space for identity formation. The empirical component of this work is made up of two case studies in two Colombian organizations, in each one of which the narrative identity of the leaders, the influence tactics that they use, the reaction that these tactics produce in their followers, and the possibility of the existence of reciprocal influence relationships was identified. Based on the results, one can formulate five theoretical verifications about the influence processes in the studied cases: 1. In leadership, influence is produced as a result of the coherence between the discourse and the action. ; 2. There is a relationship between the leader’s narrative identity, the power strategy and the influence tactics: 3. The influence tactics used by leaders are banal and diverse; 4. They make up an identifiable pattern, and 5. The follower reacts in a coherent way to the influence tactics exerted over him. The results of this research champion for the expansion of the limits of the leadership field, for the development of research work that has an interpretative and critical interest, and for a new appreciation of the role of the collaborator in organizational life

Full textThis research is focused on the case study of the historical development of the City of Ashkelonduring the tenure of the author as its Deputy Mayor and subsequently as the Mayor of the City. This case study illustrates the impact of the author’s mayoral vision, as well as his leadership,self-determination and perseverance on the local governance capacity to accomplish the mayoralstrategic sustainable urban development goals, including: upgrading the performance of the widediversity of the urban service sectors, stimulating environmentally sustainable economicdevelopment, alleviating unemployment, improving the educational systems at all levels, ensuring integrated urbanization that effectively meets the societal needs of fast expandingmulti-cultural population, and promoting quality of life. Performance measures and national andlocal data statistics illustrate the significant societal, economic and environmental impacts of theprograms implemented to support the population expansion from 63,000 residents in 1991 to138,000 in 2017 and promote economic growth as a core target goal of local governance forsustainable urban development. This case study demonstrates that the mayoral leadership is amain factor in building local governance commitment to achieving excellence and promoting highperformance urbanization standards of municipal services, educational systems, socio-culturalintegration, environmental quality preservation, and other critical aspects of sustainable urbandevelopment. It proposes and illustrates the implementation of a sustainable development modelfor cities, which experience a fast population growth under extreme environmental conditionsfacing climate change impacts and geo-political stress

Full textThis thesis mainly aims at analyzing the changes in the nature of the activities undertaken by five school leaders, in order to better understand their short-term actions. It is also a question of clarifying some of the principal’s modes of action while they carry out their everyday activities. It is also a question of making understandable the complexity of the daily role of the school leaders and of highlighting actions and policies connected to the governance of Lycées. The Lycées for which they are responsible have between 700 and 1700 students on role. They are located in two different regional education authorities: that of Clermont-Ferrand and that of Orléans-Tours. These school leaders have at least ten years’ experience in the role. Our study is based on the evaluation of the hypotheses of the research program : “Cours d’action” (Theureau, 2006, 2009, 2015). Three types of evidence were collected: (i) films of the work of the school leaders and their communication with other professionals; (ii) recording of face-to-face interviews; (iii) notes collected during the observation and used to clarify the descriptions of the activity, alongside other evidence eg emails or notes. Our study indicates that school leaders have to perform a large number of different actions. They pay particular attention to teamwork, and all forms of communication. The training and mentoring of staff is carried out with the aim of the establishment of shared leadership. The results of our study can contribute to the development of new types of training courses
Brennan, Audrey. "Primaries : a dress rehearsal for the election? : analyzing the conservative party of Canada's 2016-2017 leadership primary." Master's thesis, Université Laval, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11794/32540.
Full textPrimaries: A Dress Rehearsal for the General Election? Since the selection of party leaders in a decentralized manner is a recent phenomenon in Canada, how is this new selection procedure different from an election campaign? This project is a study of a current case, the leadership selection of the Conservative Party of Canada. The research question is: How do the rules of the Conservative Party of Canada’s 2016-2017 leadership race influence the electoral prospect of the party? It is answered using an analysis of media content, data from social networks, and semistructured interviews. Michels’ (1915c) Iron Law of Oligarchy suggests that due to the lack of interests of voters, parties have centered their increasingly complex organizations around leaders. Three components lead to the oligarchization of political parties in democracies: the psychology of candidates; the need for organization; and the psychology of the masses (Michels, 1915c, 516). This project updates and tests the Iron Law. The Conservative Party of Canada’s leadership campaign is not a dress rehearsal for the general election. This leadership primary is more like an audition. It is about choosing who will be the key players at the election, no dress rehearsal needed. It is about setting the scene, writing the plot and choosing who will lead the party at the dress rehearsal. Which will really begin during the policy convention that follows the leadership selection in the summer of 2018.

Full textAlgeria is widely recognized, particularly by international organizations, as being hostile to private entrepreneurship. Through the observation of several private companies that are prosperous in this country, we wanted to understand and explain their success despite this hostile context. A qualitative study based on the examination of multiple cases allows us to shed light on the levers of these successes (Novo Nordisk, Tifra-Lait, NCA-Rouiba, Cevital, etc.). It emerges from this research that managerial innovation seems to be one of the key elements of these successes. Moreover, this study has enabled us to understand the importance of resilience, particularly that of the creators and managers of these companies. Indeed, the research shows that, in the cases we consider, managerial innovation favors resilience by allowing to better seize certain opportunities and to face the hostile environment towards private entrepreneurship

Full textThe objective of this dissertation is to understand, from a multidisciplinary perspective, why and how the United States continually affirms its leadership and influence in the global fight on human trafficking. Supported by a wide range of sources, including international reports, government records and interviews, this study makes the assertion that, since the interwar period the United States has demonstrated its ability to lead and exert an influence in the global anti-trafficking fight. This research shows that the motivation of the United States to create and propagate its own anti-trafficking norms in the international sphere has always (since the 1920s) resulted in the promotion of socio-moral values—most notably those having to do with policies related to gender and sexuality. However, in order to achieve this objective, both the style of the United States’ leadership and the mechanisms of its influence have varied over the years. This dissertation examines the fierce quarrels and institutional competition between Congress and the Department of State, particularly regarding the manner in which the United States should exert its power in the global anti-trafficking fight. This study brings to light the fact that it is at the turn of the 21th century that demands on the US legislature are critical, specifically because of its role as a natural leader in this cause at the international level, favoring a unilateral approach. The challenge that forces the United States to adopt a carrot-andstick approach with countries that refuse to follow the American example in this fight is a legal one: it is to impose the adoption of their own federal legislation on other countries, specifically the TVPA (Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000). This is illustrated by the case study of Costa Rica. The Costa Rican government frames the question of human trafficking in terms of security and not socio-morals as encouraged by Washington. Consequently, in the U.S. State Department’s annual global review of efforts made to combat anti-trafficking, Cost Rica has been poorly ranked for the last 17 years. Finally, with respect to the socio-moral leadership of the United States in the fight against human trafficking, the cooperation of Costa Rica is mainly organized with NGOs who adopt the American socio-moral response stance

Full textThe field work has been carried out over the past fifteen years within the Mondragon Group in the Spanish Basque Country. Which is currently the world's largest network of cooperative enterprises. This group has also two major characteristics. One is to have a large sample of industrial cooperative enterprises competing globally with large multinationals. The other is that it consists of a very large majority of cooperative enterprises in the hands of their workers. What is commonly known as Mondragon Cooperative Experience is recognized as an unique experience of more than sixty years of existence. Our research question: How is the organizational identity evolving within the Mondragon Group in a current context?, is the result of a field issue. And it is on the basis of an intervention research on two cases of industrial cooperative enterprises that we were led to reflect on the evolution of the organizational identity within these two cooperatives and from there within the Mondragon Group as a whole. This consideration of the evolution of the organizational identity leads not only to consider the strategic directions chosen by the Group Mondragon but also the implemented policies of leadership and coaching to encourage the identification of the co-workers of Mondragon within their cooperatives. In this work, the researcher adopted a constructivist epistemology. He conducted a broad review of the literature on organizational identity in particular and its extensive nomological network
Morin, Gabriel. "La fabrication du leader et du leadership : analyse des processus de transformation dans trois grandes organisations." Thesis, Paris 2, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PA020055.
Full textThe research focuses on the analysis of the making of a leader and of leadership and aims at understanding the steps that allow large organizations to develop this process.Leader and leadership have been extensively discussed in management sciences. With the rise of a new environment requiring organizations to transform themselves, these notions have become a strategic challenge. This challenge has led to the emergence of a new paradigm of leadership in management sciences since the 2000s. This new stream, particularly embodied by the work of David Day (2000), is based on a renewal of empirical studies and on an approach more open to various disciplines such as psychology, mathematics and neuroscience. That current has contributed to the structuring of the field of studies on leader and leadership. Research increasingly focuses on the essential distinction between leader and leadership and on the organizations’ role in the making of these attributes within the individual. Our research fits into this paradigm by adding one idea: this type of making involves multiple transformation processes, including identity dimensions, which companies ought to explore more actively. The purpose of the research design is to establish an analytical framework that mobilizes different streams of research in order to help understand the making of a leader and of leadership. This framework will highlight the effects of, and on, three main contextual fields: the individual (Hughes), the organization (Giddens)and the environment (Emery and Trist). This is the subject of an original transposition in management sciences which puts the emphasis on the individual identity plasticity (Hughes) and recursivity of the phenomenon. The empirical analysis will be based on the multiple case study of three major organizations that share a proactive management of leader and leadership development, including the Army, the birthplace of such notions. The findings point out the existence of a process of co-creation of a leader and leadership, which is the result of interactions between the environment, the organization and the individual. These transformative live flows are theorised as an inter-context assemblage. This will lead to managerial recommendations for enabling the making of a leader and the leadership

Bin, Mohd Razalli Farizal. "Explaining the role of leadership : the formation of four natural gas pipeline projects in South America and Southeast Asia compared." Thesis, Paris, Institut d'études politiques, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014IEPP0015.
Full textThis study compares four natural gas pipeline cooperation projects in South America and Southeast Asia. It identifies the role of leadership by highlighting issues that matter to actors and factors that condition strategies to form regional gas cooperation projects. The study's key methodological objective is to develop a leadership analytical framework by synthesizing regime and leadership theories. It then constructs analytical narratives of the four natural gas pipeline cooperation projects. Toward this end, various primary and secondary sources are exploited, which are complemented by expert interviews and field observation. The comparative analysis shows that actors involved in regional gas cooperation projects are multiple and complex. Their interactions occur under two processes: political and commercial. These processes are further affected by three contexts: political, economic, and technical. At the political level, actors are preoccupied with the strategy to formulate vision and objectives for the cooperation project. Because states are dominant at this stage, consultation with larger stakeholders is often absent. At the commercial level, public and private actors are at the forefront forming partnerships and engaging themselves in intense lobbying for bath political and financial support. Such intense relationship between these actors reveals a particular leadership type called proxy leadership. The overall provision of leadership in both South America and Southeast Asia is driven by three catalysts: power, governance, and culture. While power and culture are more crucial in South American case studies, both regions seem to share rather weak governance in forming regional gas cooperation projects

Full textThis thesis studies how people react to gendered news about political leaders. Doing so, we have used a mixed-methods design comprising three data collections. Our goal was to understand the gendered mediation of political leaders and its impact on leaders evaluation. Our first data collection is a content analysis of gendered news frames about political leaders during Quebec 2014 election. The second dataset was generated through an online thought listing experiment using three distinct experimental conditions. The third source of data is a series of focus groups, held a month after the election, with a sub-sample of our online experiment participants. Our results indicate that the masculine norm, especially the “Alpha Male” gendered identity, is dominant in the mediation of political leaders in the news coverage of the 2014 election, despite the presence of the first woman as incumbent prime minister. This “Alpha Male” norm is also present in the evaluation of political leaders measured in our thoughts listing, but with some variety. Some participants have used more gendered responses, especially those who were exposed to the gendered experimental conditions. Finally, focus groups reveal that the dominance of masculinity in the political arena is not questioned by citizens, and that the “Alpha Male” norm, is still used to evaluate Quebec political leaders during an election.

Full textThe individual-project unit is at the heart of a dynamic entrepreneurial system, which in continuous interaction with its environment. To ensure its survival and development, the entrepreneur is regularly called upon to unite around him a network of actors that can power the system energy and resources it lacks. This research will address this question: In a complex and dynamic entrepreneurial situation, how an entrepreneur builds and develops its network in order to acquire the resources necessary for success and development of its innovative new venture? To answer this question, we mobilized the Actor Network Theory (Callon and Latour, 1986) as a methodology that guides our research. According to this theory, a successful innovation is not linked solely to the genius of an individual, nor the intrinsic value of its project, but it is primarily the result of an effort by a specific combination of actors (human and nonhuman), which meets around the entrepreneur and his project. By adopting a longitudinal methodology, we have followed over a period of two years, the networking dynamics of six innovative new venture projects. We paid particular attention to the role of technical artifacts in this work

Full textToday's society is faced with the recurrent problems of child violence : violence towards the physical and human environment but towards oneself. The thesis contributes to the study of the emergence of this violence in ordinary girls and boys aged 7-8 (sociability age) and 10-11 years (socialization age). The theoretical approach apprehends the socializing processes at the emotional, intellectual and psychosocial levels. It enables to advance that they are founded on external influences originating from family, school and society on one hand, on internal, individual influences originating from physiological, cognitive land emotional transformations on the other hand. The problem and the hypotheses are based, firstly, on the socializing impact of family educational styles, secondly on the school impact in terms of behavioral normalization of the social learnings, thirdly on the impact of the self-respect transformations undergone between the considered ages ; those three analyzed domains interacting between them, in particular according to the status and to the role devolved to 84 children concerned in their families and at school within their mainly rural circles of Vimeu district. The psychosociological and clinical analysis of the data collected by means of calibrated tolls (Personal Dynamics and Images, Nathan Scolaire, Zazzo and Hurtig's Scale of Psychosocial Develoment, Coopersmith self-esteem inventory) help to understand : at first the fundamental impact of the educational styles to which the children are subjected, secondly the individual hillside of these ; which expresses himself in an equal or different way at the school. The study notices that towards the mothers often perceived as the first educational agents, but also towards the fathers : authoritarianism is not a recognized authority in a systematic way towards the children. Its effect is destabilizing and provokes either the (aggressive) ability to react, or the passivity (victimisation), that is the alternation of both behaviors. The 7-8-year-old children are essentially in expectation of a grown-up humanism made by gratitude, by consideration and by listening of their own person. The potential progress towards the aggressiveness and the violence shows itself through two trends: at first that of the aggression with the frequent presence of risk behaviors against others or against himself often expressed on a playful mode. It is strengthened by the familiarity with the computer games which distort the reality of the violent facts; then that of the victimisation expressed through one overdrawn self-respect or unbalanced also sensitive in a psychosocial development missing real and real autonomy. The noticed relational disorders show themselves by a level of hyperactivity or, on the contrary, by a sensitive behavioral passivity in the vital processes of accommodation and assimilation of the functions of socialization lived at the school and in families: they concern the unbalanced way of reaching the senses of the morality, some equity, the exchange, the justice and the citizenship

Full textOur research tries to carry a critical glance on a rather abundant literature as regards loyalty. It proposes as objective to widen this prospect thanks to integration of concepts and the bringing together of theories and approaches which are generally treated separately. This thesis seeks to show that in order to consider loyalty in the context of a consumption of experiential nature, it is necessary to change the framework of analysis. The objective is to go beyond the vision reducing consumption to an instantaneous act towards a more global solution presenting consumption as an experiment lived by the consumer before, during and after the physical act of consumption. We try to study up to what point the perception of quality (particularly the service quality) allows to explain the force of the relation binding a consumer to his service supplier. Our approach of perceived quality tries to lay the stress on the complementarity of the cognitivist and experiential paradigms. It is a question of studying and checking the validity of a complex network of theoretical relations thus breaking with the behavioural approaches largely developed in marketing. Then, we try, through an empirical study, to test the validity of the relations highlighted in the literature within the framework of an experiment of consumption of a hotel service

Full textHow do organizations working in a simultaneously complex, competitive and turbulent environment manage risk ? Most traders buy and sell over a hundred million dollars daily, and there arc more than one hundred operators on a dealing floor. This empirical study draws over three years of participant observation in a trading room and forty interview in Paris, London and Hong Kong. There are three main contributions to this research : 1. The development of concepts guiding the understanding of the unique phenomenon of dealing rooms : the position, the correlation of financial instruments and the desk as a combination of a trading strategy and a product. 2. The building of a model guiding the understanding of organizations. This model is based on three fundamental forms: the hierarchy, the market and the network. We redefine them as ideal types through regulation, coordination and adaptation. 3. These ideal types allow for an analytical charting encompassing risk-management strategies. This makes it possible to draw up a falsifiable hypothesis: are trading rooms plural organizations ? We show the relevance of our ideal types and of their complex interactions. Chinese walls and product lines are explained as an application of this approach. Some distinctive features of dealing rooms are also explained : their perpetual state of transformation and their distinctiveness from other forms of organization. Facing a "crisis of the understanding of organizations", we suggest a new approach to risk- management and bring a contribution to the question of the "nature of the firm". Parallels with other organizations - in simultaneous engineering, control towers and news agencies - are suggested. Teaching of our research also bear on the inadequacy of risk-control strategies in use and suggest ways of improvement

The dissertation is also an analysis of the everyday life of the special social group constituted by the descendants of the saint around the sanctuary of their ancestor : a sacred economic system, gifts, offertories, sacrifices. . . An construction of the saint's production, essentially his famous prayer : "the machichiya", a soufi liturgical prayer which gives us an idea of the mohammadian doctrine

In this area, three 3D computerized reconstructions of sites have been created with video game technology and can be visited in real time with virtual reality. Therefore, reconstructions have been created to reproduce the atmosphere of the site and to represent an archeological site as it existed in the past, by presenting the area with lights, textures and sounds. Using this concept, the relation between the user and the 3D reconstruction, proposes this new medium as an efficient tool for research and discovery. It is a means to analyze, test and modify the subjects of research during their development. A web site and a forum have been created in respect to the thesis in order to provide people with a collection of architectural reconstruction, and to increase communication and discussion between users. This web site will enable users to follow the evolution of computer games, and, therefore benefit from innovations and new developments which are continuously developing

Full textConceptual frameworks in management control (e. G. Anthony), contingency studies or, more recently, academic dissertations on the lost relevance of management control tools have all recommended that control systems be subordinated to and adapted in function of organizational structure and therefore evolve with it. Adaptation is however only one way to make control systems evolve in relation to organizational structure. There are at least two other possibilities: - control systems may resort to five different structuring processes which could, purposefully, lead to a specific type of evolution in organizational structure; - a more autonomous development of control systems could be encouraged. In this case, structural evolution influences but does not specify the way in which control systems are modified. A case study involving three computer manufacturers (bull, hp-france and ibm-france) confirms that these companies have resorted to all three dynamics. The relationship between structural evolution and control systems is not a one-way relationship but one which includes several directions that are effectively or may be used. Control systems do not simply follow structural evolution. They may, in fact, prompt it. The point then is to determine which dynamics should be encouraged and subsequently admisnistrate the control systems. No typology suggesting which dynamics to use in which circumstance is provided. Dynamics are considered as possible options to be used by controllers who are the only ones in a position to properly evaluate the complexity of each situation. Practical and theoretical implications are examined via questions and hypotheses. Does the other possible directions are one more expression of the upstream shift of control ? Does it alter the responsibility and legitimacy of controllers in relation to structural evolution, or more so, that of organizations ?

Full textThe understanding of rules governing change in organisation has recently emerged as a central theme of the management literature. Structured around two main questions why do organisations change ? And how do they change ? - previous research reveal some limits when trying to stress on change processes regularities. In this research, we propose to consider change dynamic with a new approach, not used until now to explain, understand and model change ; sequences of events. This approach is pursued along a more traditional one which aims to discover change processes development steps. Our research objectives serve the following questions : - are events clearly ordered in a change process and, is this order common to different change situations ? - what are the change actions logics explaining succession of events ? To answer these questions, we have conducted four cases analysis. These cases describe the organisations' historical evolutions from the moment of the decision to change to the time of the establishment of a new management framework. Results show two change logics. The first one, named type a change or prescribed change, is characterised by : - a clear vision of the future that allows formulation of desirable state. The gap between this desirable state and actual organisation sets the changes to be engaged to reach the vision ; - key actors making decisions and formulating objectives imposed to the rest of the organisation. Thus, they create actions logic inducing other actors behaviour. Development and implantation of the new vision in the organisation result from an induced process of + retention ;,+ selection ; and + variation ;. The second change actions logic, named type b change or constructed change, is characterised by : - an unclear vision of the future, expressing the intention to let opened change bounds. Change project is based on the process to follow and the aimed behaviour to change effectively ; - a large freedom of actions to favour autonomous behaviour in order to enrich progressively the formalization of the new organisational state. Development and implantation of the new organisation result from an autonomous process of + variation ;,+ selection ; and + retention ;. Theses two change logics can added to each other within the same change process

Full textThis thesis studies the participation of the individuel in durable employment relationships threatened by restructuring measures. It proposes a comprehensive analysis of the means and dynamics which support the individual's participation and performance in a context where the frame and the terms of the durable exchange were distorted and transformed. The thesis analyses the participation of the individuel using Marcel Mauss' gift and total social fact paradigm. The first part builds on this theoretical ground to develop an analytical frame for the study of the durable employment relationship. It shows how restructuring measures transform the procedures and the conditions of the participation of the individuel. This research is based on an ethnographic study which was carried out in France Telecom. The second part of the thesis describes the methodology and the results of this empirical investigation. Our results support the validity of the gift and total social fact paradigm to interpret and to understand the participation mecanisms in durable employment relationships. They show how a durable employment relationship raises flexibility resources for the firm

Full textThis dissertation focuses on the structuring of scientific concepts (related to the explanation of the scolar system) throughout the cognitive developement of children and youngsters (aged 9 to 14), and the linguistic expression of such concepts. The study use both a linguistic and psychological approach to analyse the structuring process. This work shows four main stages in the evolutive process : self-centred orientated egocentration (9 year-olds), ego-centred shifting to external objects (10 year-olds) object-centred decentration, and allocentration (14 year-olds). This process orchestrates the distantiation from experience, with language playing a structuring role : the evolution of linguistic markers (thematic roles are named here "cognitive roles"), causation, localization, "experimenter" and agentivity ; the evolution of the mode of utterance contextualisation : from cognitive to linguistic context with intermediary stage, the extra linguistic context

Full textThis research explores on the hand, the level of satisfaction and the level of investment of young engineers in employment and secondly the level of expectations and level of investment planned by future engineers. A preliminary study on a population consisting of 619 young engineers in employment, has allowed us to build a tool to measure and test a research model. The relationship between satisfactions and the involvement and organizational commitment has been established through structural equation models. This model is discussed by gender and generation membership (X or Y). A typology of engineers in 5 groups was established. From this model, we propose an exploratory model for a population of engineering students. This model connects the expectations of future engineers with their future position and the organizational involvement and commitment in the work they themselves feel they should provide. A cohort study of a population of 1,016 engineering students allowed us to validate the model and construct a typology of groups. The evolution of the employment relationship of future and young engineers was discussed

Full textThe present thesis deals about the formation by electrochemical oxidation of mononuclear manganese(IV) complexes, bearing a terminal oxo ligand. The manganese(II) or (III) precursor complexes has been prepared with tetradentate or pentadentate monotopic ligands. These complexes, as well as their +IV oxidation state counterparts, has been thoroughly studied by cyclic voltametry, UV-visible, EPR and X-ray absorption spectroscopies. DFT calculations has also been performed on one of these complexes. The results obtained help advancing the artificial photsynthesis research field, and bring synthetic clues to the functioning of the natural photosynthetic water oxidation process

Full textThis thesis aims to study the behaviors of improvisation and non-improvisation in crisis. The objective is to understand under what conditions and why organization actors improvise or not when they are faced with a crisis situation. The research is exploratory, conducted out of an epistemology of critical realism and was carried out on the basis of adductive reasoning. It is based on a qualitative approach based on the study of four cases of organizations having been subjected to crisis situations for which it studied improvisation phenomena (or not) at three levels : individual, group (the service) and collectiv (organization). The analysis of the results focuses on three axes. It is first a characterization of behavior in crisis. It then deals with a tracking of the explanatory factors of behaviors leading to the proposal for a conceptual framework of improvisation, standing out deductive and inductive improvisation. Finally, It sets out research managerial implications relating to the conduct of improvisation in a crisis situation

Full textProvable security enables to formalize what is expected from a cryptographic primitive, and to prove that some mechanisms actually meet these expectations. Security proofs neverthe-less rely on the hypothesis that some reference algorithmic problems are hard to solve. These hardness hypotheses are primarily justified by the lack of efficient algorithms to solve the corre-sponding problems. In the first part of this thesis, we study some authenticated key exchange protocols. After a close look to the security model involved, we prove the security of two classical protocols, MTI/CO and MQV, which was up to now only studied empirically. Then, we show how to extend the adversarial model to include active compromises. Neither MQV, nor HMQV, which is a proved variant of MQV, withstand these attacks. We propose a new protocol that solves this problem with a round and computational complexity similar to the one of MQV. In the second part of this thesis, we turn our attention to solving Systems of multivariate equations on a finite field. Several public key cryptosystems rely on the difficulty of this problem, for different families of Systems of equations. On the one hand, we cryptanalyze such a cryptosystem, TRMC. On the other hand, we improve a generic resolution algorithm, XL. The performance of the resulting algorithm is on par with the best currently known methods
