Abstract:
Efficient allocation of photoassimilates from source to sink tissues is important for optimal plant growth and yield as relative source and sink strength drives growth potential of plant organs. A common method aimed at improving plant yield has been to modify enzymes important to storage compound biosynthesis in sink tissues such as seeds. As the rate limiting step in starch biosynthesis, ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPase) has received much attention in this regard. Previously, overexpression of AGPase in seeds resulted in an enhanced yield phenotype in which both plant yield and biomass

Leaves are responsible for the majority of the fixed carbon in most plant species. Along leaf development, the photosynthetic capacity increases until the organ reaches maturity. Consequently, at the onset of senescence the leaves have the highest photosynthetic activity, then, as the chloroplasts are dismantled and the photosynthetic machinery is degraded, leaves gradually lose the rate of carbon assimilation. Although the capacity to fix carbon declines as senescence progresses, nutrient remobilization from macromolecule degradation nourishes the developing sink organs. In this regard, delay

Increasing green leaf duration during grain filling in rice, using management practices to enhance plant nutrition and health, can increase grain yield. To test this hypothesis, two experiments were conducted in 2005/06. The first experiment with the objectives of evaluating the effects of nitrogen (N) and fungicide application at booting stage on 1) the green leaf area duration and grain yield and 2) on the evolution of the dry mass accumulation in grains. The treatments were three N rates (50, 100 and 150 kg ha-1) and management practices during the booting stage (supplementary application o

Abstract:
The influence of rootstock and canopy density on grape berry composition was investigated over the summer of 2003-2004 on a commercial vineyard at Waipara, North Canterbury. This experiment was designed to investigate the influence of rootstock and canopy density on the acid composition, potassium (K) content and final pH of harvested fruit (Pinot Noir AM 10/5 Lincoln Selection). The trial block consisted of eight rootstocks laid out to an 8 x 8 latin square, each plot consisting of five vines of the same rootstock. Two canopy treatments were overlaid the block (down whole rows, assigned rando
