Abstract:
Simple enzymatic methods were developed for the synthesis of lysolecithin, glycerolyzed lecithin and hydrolyzed lecithin. The products were characterized in terms of their acetone insoluble matter, hexane insoluble matter, moisture, phospholipid distribution and fatty acid composition. The HLB value ranges of different products with different acid values were detected. The efficiency of optimally hydrolyzed lecithin was examined at high calcium ion, low pH, and aqueous solutions and compared with commercially available standard lecithin-based emulsifiers. Overall, lysolecithin powder was prove

Abstract:
Here, we report a facile and effective one-pot approach to prepare uniform amylose-based polymeric microparticles (PMPs) through enzymatic synthesis of short-chain amylose (SCA) followed by spontaneous self-assembly of the SCA in the presence of lecithin. The effect of lecithin on nucleation and growth kinetics of amylose microparticles was investigated by monitoring the turbidity of reaction solution and the size of particles over the course of the self-assembly process. The results suggest that lecithin played a critical role in controlling the self-assembly kinetics to form uniform amylose

Abstract:
The work presented in this dissertation is a composite of experiments in the growth of gold nanoparticles with specific optical properties of interest. The goal is to synthesize these gold nanoparticles using soybean extract for not only shape control, but for propensity as a biocompatible delivery system. The optical properties of these nanoparticles has found great application in coloring glass during the Roman empire and, over the centuries, has grown into its own research field in applications of nanoparticulate materials. Many of the current functions include use in biological systems as

Abstract:
Young male rats fed a choline-deficient diet for three days accumulated triacylglycerol (TG) in the liver, and had reduced very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), but not high density lipoprotein (HDL), levels in the plasma. Cultured hepatocytes obtained from these rats were used as a model system to investigate how choline deficiency affected hepatic lipogenesis, apolipoprotein synthesis and lipoprotein secretion. When the cells were cultured in a medium free of choline and methionine, the secretion of TG and phosphatidylcholine (PC) was impaired. Supplementation of choline, methionine or lysoph

This study was carried out to see what kind of response the blood cells have to a weak stimuli of lipopolysacc-harides (LPS), a substance that in small quantities may be a small part of the blood system. The parameters tested under this condition were: thromboxane A2 (TxA2) (produced in platelets), prostacyclin (PGI2) produced in white cells (mainly monocytes) and induced thromboplastin synthesis in monocytes.Heparinized blood from 40 men and 40 women was incubated with 2 ng LPS/ml blood for 2 hours. Blood cells were then either spun down to obtain plasma or mononuclear cells were isolated fro
